You might have a Touch, but your problem is related to Squeezebox Server
on your Mac, not the Touch itself.
You won't find many references to Firewire, especially now, it's kind
of a dead interface (which is a shame, I always preferred it to USB).

All of a sudden I'm getting multiple entries for the same genre with
artists being divided amongst the multiple genre folders.
Example:
My genres folder looks something like this: Celtic, Classical,
Classical, Country...Folk-Rock, Folk-Rock...Indie, Indie, Jazz, Jazz,
Jazz, Jazz...

OK, now I have MORE questions. I have the hard drive. I have
Squeezebox Server loaded on the laptop, and the hard drive connected to
the laptop. So I need another USB cable to connect the laptop to the
Squeezebox, correct?
Connecting to the router is not an option.

You use wifi , that works ok for most people, ethernet is always more
robust , but wifi can work very well
