It's for security:
Disabling WIFI won't do jack as far as increasing sound quality. In
fact, using WIFI will give you the same sound quality as Ethernet. (The
1's and 0's coming over WIFI are the same). The only benefit Ethernet
brings is a more trouble free connection.

EDO was installed and functions 100%, even at 192 KHz.

The easiest way is to "reserve" an IP for your Touch via your router;
check router instructions. Otherwise, google "squeezebox
Hello,
I recently obtained a Squeezebox Touch to play audio at higher
samplerates than with the Squeezebox Classic.
After getting the SBT to play audio I got a few questions:
- How does one assign an IP-number for the wired network? (other than
via DHCP)
- How does one disable the wifi?
- How

Yes. It even scans it but nothing happens after that. The HD

If you still have the other server running on a network computer, then
the Touch will (I think) still be connected
Thanks a lot for the hint. Unfortunately, it was already on the internal
server. I do the ability to go to the computer server but I've actually
disabled that so it is not interfering.
I tried the scan again last night before I went to sleep. Again, it
didn't finish, or at least I don't have
How many files are on the USB drive? Because you have to let the server
finish the scan and that can take several hours with the Touch's
internal server and if you try to play music before it finishes it will
have issues. Or is it giving you an error of some kind?

Thanks Rayman. I noticed that it takes the Squeezebox a long time to
finish. I've given it 24 hours but there is no indication that it is
complete other than the drive is not being accessed anymore.

I would begin by testing it with a much smaller library on the hard
drive first.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm wondering whether the sluggishness of the scan using the built-in
server could be a problem.
Is there any work-around to build the database on a pc and then
re-attach the drive? Some people seem to have problems with big music
collections.
As I posted in a different

No, at least no easy one.
Theoretically it's just a SQLite database so suspect it should be
possible to create it off line, the problem is just that the paths are

Thanks Erland.
It sounds if I'll go with the Touch route I definitely need an external

as well. But I have to sort the issue with the network out. The
Vortexbox has no wi-fi capability, and I can't put the appliance near

As far as I'm aware it doesn't.

There was talk earlier in this thread about large collections and how
they perform on the Touch. What is considered to be a large
collection? I have about 23,000 songs (600 GB) on an external HD
connected via USB to the Touch. It'll take at least 40 seconds to get
a song selected to play.

Out-of-the-box, no. There's an open 'enhancement request for that'
