I scan 37000 files in 45 minutes on my HP Microserver N36 thats
basically a dual core atom cpu at 1.5Ghz (1 gb ram ) .
Running clear OS linux .
250G oS drive one 2TB SATA drive for the music .

Is the 2TB drive internal? May be that is the ticket

Yes it is the microserver has slots for 4 internal drives and one could
cram one extra in the 5,25 bay too .
But anyway the server may be slow scanning and slow to use while
scanning , but it should not really be
Also notice that using music folder is no longer possible while
scanning (it works normally after the scan is finished ).
cue sheets does not work in music folder browsing either fyi.

Could you please comfirm this is your setup.
You have LMS running on a Macbook Pro, your music files are located on a
NAS, you access the NAS over your home network, and your Mac Mini has
nothing to do with Squeezebox or LMS.
I think if you had
If you use music folder instead of artist ,album ,genre then acess
over network would slow down browsing as you actually are browsing the
folders and files and are not using the scanned database.

One more question on Vortexbox if I may.
Someone mentioned that my slowness is due to slow NAS. If I my
Vortexbox has no internal storage and access the same NAS through the
LAN, would I still experience the dramatic speed improvement?
I think Mnyb was saying LMS works

hardware boxes.
It can be either. An old computer can be converter to Vortexbox or you
can purchase a Vortexbox Appliance (a small computer running Votexbox).
I have an old PC (2004) running Vortexbox,

Exactly , scanning files over the network is slow even if the server is
fast .
Almost no NAS comes close to 1g tranfer speed more often less than 100mb
in practice, and even if they did it still much slover than SATA or
actually even USB can be faster .
I see. Previously I

I see. Previously I had my friend helping me to install Squeezecenter

to the QNAP.
Of course I can always buy one more

No that's the other mystery, why is you server slow it should not be ?
Is not PureMusic one of those apps that tweaks the whole OS basically ,
can that have any influence on running a normal aplication .
Sorry to have confused you. My MacMini is the player directly connected

I find installing LMS on my QNAP became
Mine is also organized by artist/album. I now trying to reorganize

Hmm. Then something else is wrong. I can do a complete clear and rescan
of about 70,000 files in an hour. And new and changed scan in a couple
of minutes. Mostly FLAC and most
Are the files locally on the server or spread out on remote shares ?
As usual music folder is much slower than artist or album and it is
slow to respond while scanning .
But something must be strange here as your server should be able to do
better .
You should ,not scan for videos or pictures

Hi the files are stored in a QNAP NAS, LAN is Gigabit.
I did untick pictures and videos
I will have a look at the other settings when I get home.
A gigabit connection doesnt overcome a woefully underpowered nas. What
takes my vortexbox an hour took my old readynas duo

Interesting, I have heard of Vortexbox but never dug deeper.

1. Where is the best source for a comprehensive list of support
documents, FAQs, Downloads, betas, list of plugins, manuals etc...? I
tried the Wiki and the info seems pretty thin and not updated.
For plugins, the only updated list is the Plugins tab in LMS Settings
