I like the Wirecutter reviews, because they usually do a good job of explaining their choices with a minimum of jargon, so you can decide if your criteria are the same as the reviewers'. The Presonus Eris 3.5 is their budget pick for "best computer speakers" and is within your price range:

I am looking to use a spare touch to replace a (fading screen) Boom. But I need some powered speakers to go with it. I would like to keep it very compact (the touch + the speakers), so looking for suggestions on small powered speakers to pair with the touch. Any recommendations for
