See attached screenshot. One can scroll it up/down and it stays like
that. Seems to be just Unity 8 though, applications look normal.

I for one haven't considered extensive testing yet. The reason for the
proposal is to prevent a regression wrt Chinese rendering (due to new
default font), and we have a positive report from a Chinese user at bug
#1468027 (comment #105).
As regards your last
Network Manager (IIRC) is responsible for marking this active APN as
Preferred. The “Active” property isn't considered in System Settings,
only internally in NM.

Complete new reinstall on the same server and I can confirm that the
main VGA connector works. If I switch to the front VGA the screen is
black. On trusty I see at least errors in dmesg (see mentioned bug in
#4) but nothing on xenial.

On at least Xubuntu 16.04 a message saying that a stop job is running
for a user (the user account which was logged in to) sometimes appears
on shutdown (or reboot) and delays the shutdown process (by 90 seconds
by default). This problem used to occur on previous versions of
