caused by timidity blocking the physical sound device.

Wireless network immediately disconnects after updating to
I also noticed this, my laptop's integrated Intel audio device is also
missing from pulseaudio(both as input and output), but I can see other
HDMI or USB sound devices I may have attached and I can switch to them
and they work as expected.
Interestingly the device works when playing a WAV file
