I had the same problem. Sunk over a day into trying to figure it out.
I'm taking no chances: I removed evolution. I might reinstall it
sometime when I am no under such a crunch.
What I find really frustrating is that I would expect the OOM (Out of
Memory) killer to recognize that the process
I did the change and now it shows "dummy output" when i change sound
level.

Right now in 19.10, /lib/systemd/system/fstrim.service runs /sbin/fstrim
--fstab --verbose --quiet , which doesn't cause the service to report
these errors. According to the fstrim man page, for the --fstab option:

I was wrong about the headphones. They were not plugged in at all this
time and the sound of the internal speakers are messed up. I'm attaching
a sound recording I just made. If I switch to my monitors' speakers they
work fine.

I have an Asus Zephyrus S GX531GX laptop and a pair of Asus Delta USB
headphones. When the headphones are plugged in during boot the internal
speakers won't work. There is only crackling sound coming from them. It
doesn't help in I unplug the headphones. There is no problem
Also confirm that the problem is fixed for me on Focal with regular upgrades.
Tested with the same devices: Sony WH-1000XM3 and Plantronics Marque M155.

Recently I have come to use Whonix 15.0.0.7.1 as guest OS running in a VM under
KVM, while the host OS I am running is Ubuntu 18.04.3. Problem is the slow
shutdown of Whonix which most of times takes about 2 minutes. There is a
problem report regarding this issue on Whonix
pcscd does NOT use usb_claim_interface().
The problem is in the driver used.
Is the iBank driver in a Ubuntu package?
