Sounding more and more like a kernel bug. Especially since comment #13
mentions that it occurs in 5.5 (but not 5.4!?).

Oh come to think of it, there is a commonality between Firefox, VLC and
Chrome. That is they all try to follow the system theme but all three
are NOT GTK apps. They each use different toolkits. So I fear this is
the same basic problem that will need to be fixed in three different
toolkits.

@Daniel Thank you, will see where I get with
sudo modprobe ath10k_core btcoex_enable=1 bt_ant_diversity=1
as seems to have been suggested under the related bug.
Will try 5GHz and disabling WiFi, but the latter can obviously only be a
temporary diagnostics step.

This bug is definitely triggered by the built kernel image loading the
nvidia drivers. The autologin failures and associated hangs on restarts
can be suppressed as follows...
1) Edit /etc/config/grub to remove 'splash' from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
2) Regenerate /boot/grub/grub.cfg with 'sudo

A fix for this has been uploaded. It is currently stuck in proposed

With the -1ubuntu2 package, I no longer get a crash dump, but the audio
is still not working. pulseaudio is aborting. Here is what is in
syslog from bootup:
Apr 18 01:13:09 shh dbus-daemon[1218]: [system] Activating via systemd: service
name='org.freedesktop.RealtimeKit1'
It kind if sounds like the system is in partial sleep mode, or trying to
get there. And that would make sense because when the bug occurs the lid
is closed and you've disconnected the only other screen. So you're kind
of asking for screen hotplugging (or switching back to it on the KVM) to
wake
Can confirm that the issue is indeed fixed after I updated to the latest
