After Upgrading from xenial to zesty and further on to artful UMTS connection
through GOBI2000 modem stopped working.
It is an issue of modemmanager and network-manager.
First modemmanager now reports type as "gsm" and no more "wwan" so the
filter in /usr/lib/NetworkManager/
This can be fixed by adding `acpi_backlight=vendor` to the `linux`
stanza in `grub.cfg` which is effectively done by adding it to
`GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT` in `/etc/default/grub` in Ubuntu 17.10 or
possibly earlier.
