Sorry I'm not anymore using Ubuntu. But, the last time I reinstall, it is fine
(no such problem again)–as I remember.

I have exactly the same error. As stated above, keyboard letter P
upper or lower case can be typed without causing the attempted new
folder to disappear. The workaround I have been using for this is first
creating the folder in Nautilus, where there is no issue, and then
saving files into it from
