same here, screen never shuts off no matter what i set it to in
brightness and lock.
daily fresh installed about a week ago. 64bit ubuntu with nvidia

Can confirm, fresh install here, not upgrade - same issue. Same issue
with default mesa and mesa git from Oibaf PPA, so it's not that I
suppose (I'm on AMD).

I have the exact same problem as he mentioned above...initially, i upgraded
from 14.04 to 14.10 ...I am also using unity...
Then i tried doing a clean install and the same thing happens (so obviously it
nothing to do with the upgrading factor)
After the clean install, it initially worked
In my case this was a new 14.10 installation from the daily ISO of
2014.09.16. It was todays updates that created this issue, but the last
update I did was September 30th.
