With just the HP laptop (not the SONY), could you please run the following
command once from a terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated
debug information to this report:

Mostly random freezes and random crashes of Xorg. First I thought it was
a problem introduced with upgrading (14.10 -> 15.04 -> 15.10), so I
performed a clean install, to no avail. Have been reluctant to downgrade
so far.
