The one confirmed (and not fix released) bug causing Unity8 black screen
I can think of is bug 1536662. We plan to release the fix for that in
Mir 0.22

BTW, this bug is confirmed because I had the same problem (intel
graphics) with 15.10 and other people did too.
However I suspect it might already be fixed in 16.04 (pre-release). Or
alternatively, it might actually be bug 1526658 (which I'm pretty sure
was one of the causes of Unity8 black

The symptom is similar to bug #1525285, could you launch a X11 session
and then unity8 again?

which sometimes tells us exactly why nothing is on screen.
