Those switches instruct whereis on where it should search for binaries or man pages. You asked it to look only in a directory where the file is NOT and thus it does not report finding the file. Try: whereis -B /usr/bin -f apt-get ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu) Status: New =>
