This bug was originally about Unity not being ready. Unity is now firmly part of ubuntu-desktop, so I am closing this.
** Changed in: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Summary changed: - change unity-2d dependency to recommends in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ubuntu-desktop metapackage + ubuntu-desktop should not yet depend on unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/683271 Title: ubuntu-desktop should not yet depend on unity Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Hi! I’ve updated recently to Natty to get a chance to look at how things will work. I don’t want to play with Unity yet (it doesn’t seem to work at all right now), but I can’t remove because ubuntu-desktop depends on it. I think for now it should be marked as “recommends” rather than “depends”. This way it will get installed for most people, but those who choose to can remove it and play with the rest of the distribution. When we’re getting closer to the release date and Unity becomes more stable it could perhaps be turned back to a “depends”.
