Seems that the camera issue is not only just when the lens is covered.
The live preview feature has gone away, so if the camera is running, the

Fixing this in cron would not ensure mutual exclusion in the cases
where these scripts are called by other means, eg manual calls.
I think we shouldn't consider external calls as this is out of cron's
scope (if not builtin directly in the application flock's doesn't
guarantee mutual exclusion
Note that there is currently a bug in that the menu items are removed
and the indicator shut down when the icon on the status bar is removed.

OK, anpok says this is actually just bug 1275398. Because not having
working buffer sharing for i915 yet not only creates black windows but
also some uninitialized buffer fields. Hence crash on clear. So
