I can confirm that unchecked detect_outputs
and configuring outputs to match screen revolution. Fix the
overlapping issue.
Under ubunto system settings i also had to correct the settings to match
config in outputs

I've just ran an update+dist-upgrade which pulled 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.5. It's
sat there doing nothing. CTRL+C won't kill it. Htop shows that the last
process to be created is stop rsyslog which follows invoke-rc.d
rsyslog restart.

It would be extremely useful for apps providing infographics if a pass
through function for tagging existed in i18n.
e.g. i18n.tag(my string to extract but not translate)
This would be the equivalent of the N_ function, but for QML.

KILLed rsyslog but it doesn't make any difference.
Tried purging rsyslog but that just tries stopping again. Once KILLed it
tries starting it again, which makes no sense at all seen as I'm trying
to purge it.
I have tried removing /etc/init.d/rsyslog so that invoke-rc.d does
nothing but it still

I agree we could just obsolete it since Qt 3D is probably not used
anywhere, but since fixing the compilation is easy we should fix the
compilation first and then see if we can obsolete it in a second step.

Perhaps we could name it i18n.noop() to follow the gettext convention?
It seems N_ is generally an alias to the gettext_noop macro [1]:
