In order to fix this bug existing kernel version should be updated.

After rebooting one can get faster connectivity.

Bug description:
  "dpkg --purge" calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools when
  purging/removing a linux-image-extra package. That calls "update-
initramfs -c" which needs significant amount of additional disk space
in /boot temporarily. But there is no space left, if /boot is full.

The fix could be to create the new initrg.img file in different
partition before replacing the old one by it in update-initramfs. So
the update-initramfs script should be fixed.

Alternatively some should remove the respective /boot/initrd.img-
file before removing the linux-image-extra package. That could also be done by
  sudo update-initramfs -d -k

Public bug reported:

working. I've tried

sudo alsa force-reload

sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-utils

sudo apt-get install alsa-utils

I've tried about every single little thing, and it's driving me crazy.

Title:
Toggling fullscreen/maximize in demo servers shows one frame briefly
at top-left of the old size

Status in Mir:

Status in mir package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Toggling fullscreen/maximize in demo servers shows one frame briefly
at top-left of the old size.

It's visibly moving the window to top-left in a separate frame before
resizing to full screen. This appears to be what the code does too:

  surface->move_to(rect.top_left);
  surface->resize(rect.size);

To avoid this, X (and others) use a combined "configure window"
operation that moves and resizes the window atomically. Mir would need
  to do the same.

2017-05-01 Thread Victor Barcelos Lacerda
** Description changed:

- Applications like Blender (native) and SimCity 4 (running through Wine with

SimCity 4 (running through Wine with Hardware Acceleration enabled) have their
windows graphics corrupted as saw in the attachment's print screen image
(Blender).
Maybe this problem is OpenGL related, it's just a guess.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1638345] Re: avahi-daemon crashes multiple times an hour

2017-05-01 Thread Trent Lloyd
Workaround is to edit /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf and comment out the
entire [limits] section or at least the rlimit-data and rlimit-stack
sections

I hope to push out an update for this

2017-05-01 Thread Raphaël Droz
E555, same chip, same problem.
This guy too:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/585709/headphones-not-recognized/674501
This one too, but got it fixed using the right "model":
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/slackware64-on-lenovo-g50-70-no-sound-4175514003/
and here too (but managed to solve it):
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=224771
Same chip, but opposite issue (sound in the headphone only);

[Touch-packages] [Bug 715765] Re: Can't change kerberos password

2017-05-01 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I tried with xenial (krb5 1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2) and precise (krb5

the principal created with the preauth flag (it was hinted this could
have been the problem).

  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty/main amd64 Packages

  3. udevadm trigger --verbose --subsystem-match=net --action=add will run and
read .link files from /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-interface1.link
  and apply MTU settings

  4. during system boot running (3) does not set the MTU; running (3)
after boot has completed MTU is set correctly.

Here'a log during boot where cloud-init generates a netplan config,
invokes `netplan generate` which writes the networkd config out
and then udevadm trigger (3). Upon logging in interface1 has an MTU of 1500.
Re-running udevadm trigger now runs the rules/link files and updates the MTU.

Note that, if you run udevadm test /sys/class/net/interface1; this also will
apply the MTU (test probably shouldn't change the interface, I'll file a
  bug for that as well).

Ubuntu MATE 17.04: No DNS resolution caused by systemd-resolved

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is something new in Ubuntu 17.04. Whenever I boot up or upon
returning from sleep, I don't have DNS resolution available. What I
have to do is go and shutdown systemd-resolved (sudo service systemd-
resolved stop) and edit /etc/resolv.conf to point to 192.168.1.1 (my
router) instead of 127.0.0.53. Then everything works peachy. Otherwise
any DNS resolution attempt will result in SERVFAIL.

Since this is a major issue out of the box and I don't see any other
bug report on this yet, I wanted to report it. This happens both on my
laptop and my desktop PC, so it's not something strange on a single
machine, but since no one else is complaining about it yet, it may be
related to my network configuration. My router forwards DNS requests
to an ODROID C2 on the same subnet, which then does the DNS resolution
via dnsmasq. Dnsqmasq is set up to forward the requests to multiple
DNS servers and respond with whichever one was fastest.

  systemd-resolved breaks Steam

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When systemd-resolved is active and /etc/resolv.conf points to
127.0.0.53, steam fails to resolve domain names, and refuses to update
or install games. Often, it doesn't even start, because it wants to
update itself, but cannot reach its content servers.

Manually (dig/host/nslookup/etc), resolving works fine, and also
Chrome etc do'nt show any problems. It seems Steam uses some uncommon
type of DNS records or so?

If I change the nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf to 8.8.8.8, of to my
local resolver, everything works fine again.

Bug description:
Hi, vim-gtk3 crashes so often on my system that it's borderline unusable.
My system is a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04. I also (temporarily) renamed my
customized ~/.vimrc and ~/.vim. My system is up-to-date as of today
(2016-08-09); installed vim-gtk3 is 2:7.4.1689-3ubuntu1.1.

The crash happens only (but very frequently, not always) when I launch
gvim, either by calling it from a shell or by double-clicking a file
in Nautilus. Note that the crash is independent of whether I'm opening
a file or not. (At least I tried both variations from the terminal.)

There's also a report on vim's bugtracker, but since unity appears in
the backtrace, the consensus is that it's probably Ubuntu-specific.

Nope, it is still a problem in "systemd 231-9ubuntu4 amd64". Actually,
it seems like multiple features documented in the Ubuntu Manpages for
systemd.network are not functioning. Below are some error messages

As you can see, the bridge and the two ports (tap devices) were
configured. But the bridge VLAN did not receive the intended
configuration, and the tap devices failed to be associated with the
bridge.

the lightdm section of the file contains a lightdm configuration that
is incorrect for 15.10 and later

for example it writes out /root/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

according to the lightdm wiki this should be
  /root/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/xyz.conf

Additionally using [SeatDefaults] is wrong. Again according the wiki
[SeatDefaults] is obsolete and should be [Seat:*]

Think this is probably why manual live CD creators and those who use
Pinguy ISO Builder cannot create a lightdm autologin live CD

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1667769] Re: apt-daily.service running too early in boot process

Title:
apt-daily.service running too early in boot process

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
System: ubuntu mate 16.04 with apt version 1.2.19

  Problem:

On a desktop system I noticed that the package lists were being
updated very infrequently. This is apparently because on most days the
apt-daily.service is triggered early in the boot process when the
network is not up. Since the timer is set to run approximately every
12 hours, and the system is only on for a few days, the timer tends to
lapse over night and is then triggered as soon as the system is booted
  the following day.

Also, `apt-get update` returns true regardless of whether there is a
network connection, so the apt.systemd.daily script reports success
and updates the timestamp file regardless. This means that if the
system is only used for a few hours per day the package list may not
be updated for many days until the timer lapses while the system
happens to be already switched on.

System journal showing typical output during boot process:

  Work-around:

I have worked around this by creating a file /etc/systemd/system/apt-
  daily.service.d/network.conf containing the following options:

  Wants=network-online.target
  After=network-online.target

Maybe there is a better way to specify unit dependencies or to edit
the timer so it will delay on startup, but this seems to fix the issue
  for me.

  Related bug:

This other bug might be related, but it states that it causes apt-get to hang
indefinitely, which I have not seen on my system.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1684100] Re: TP-LINK TL-WN722N 150MBPS not working on Ubuntu 17.04. Worked fine on 16.10

2017-05-01 Thread sutupud
I tried to boot into the previouse kernel and downgrading wpa_supplicant first,
which did not help. So I suspected some change in NetworkManager to be
responsible. After trying some other configuration changes I compared the log
output from a machine that was not yet upgraded to that of an upgraded one, and
the difference was that the latter changed the mac address between scanning and
connecting. So I tried to disable this behaviour, and it worked after that.
My other wifi devices too work with mac address randomization turned on, just
this one does not. Maybe it has to do with the timing between chaning mac
addresses and initiating a connection, I really have no idea what the root
cause could exactly be.

** Package changed: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu) => network-manager (Ubuntu)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2017-05-01 Thread Sachin Bawoor
The solution would be to search non-sequentially.
If the first nameserver fails to answer, then it should ask other till it gets
correct nameserver.
For example if the request needs to resolve private address-it first searches
non sequentially and asks 8.8.8.8 nameserver initially but it can resolve only
public addresses. So now it asks other nameserver 192.168.0.1, it can resolve
both public and private addresses.

Bug description:
A number of reports already filed against network-manager seem to
reflect this problem, but to make things very clear I am opening a new
report. Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of
  this one.

Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf:

  nameserver 192.168.0.1
  nameserver 8.8.8.8

The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can
resolve both private and public domain names. The second address is
the address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only
  public names.

This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first-
  listed address first.

Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the
  above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes

  server=192.168.0.1
  server=8.8.8.8

to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and "nameserver 127.0.0.1" to
resolv.conf. Resolution of private domain names is now broken because
dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the
faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8.

I manipulate many text files each day and frequently have several open and
visible at the same time on the same monitor. (I have multiple monitors.) The
ability to quickly change the dimensions of individual windows is very
important, and the "new" GNOME 3 method of:
  1. Move mouse to title bar, right click
  2. move the "selection" bar -DOWN- several lines, click on the word "resize"
  3. --CAREFULLY-- move the mouse --ONLY-- in the direction you want to expand
or reduce the window size.
  4. More often then NOT, you then get to do this all over again because the
computer moved the left side of the window, rather then the right side as you
had intended, or the top of the window instead of the bottom, or some sort of
vice-versa forcing you to now move your cursor to the top of the screen to
reposition the entire window.

Much easier to just grab an edge and move THAT edge.

I have also noticed that the majority of the applications installed on
my system also allow grabbing the window edges, even though most of
them also have the "click on a non-existant icon and hope that you get
a usable pulldown menu to do something useful." method of selecting
options that gnome 3 seems to like.

What's worse is where the "help" and "preferences" selections are -
especially when you have a multi-monitor sysytem. (But I will have to
say, that GNOME 3 is much better than UNITY.)

Now if this method of selecting options (Resize, help, preferences,
Print, etc) was done to support "Touch screens" then I have to ask,
please, PLEASE, provide a user selectable option of "Desktop" or
"Touch Screen" so that the user can make their own choice...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1556419] Re: nf_conntrack: automatic helper assignment is deprecated

2017-05-01 Thread daniel CURTIS
Hi. The same problem here. Release 16.04.2 LTS, iptables 1.6.0-2ubuntu3
etc. I noticed this one in dmesg entry:

$ sudo dmesg |grep iptables
[ 1168.282586] nf_conntrack: automatic helper assignment is deprecated and it
will be removed soon. Use the iptables CT target to attach helpers instead.

I have one more problem with this release; when iptables is in use (with
very simple rules) there is not internet connection. But using ufw
firewall, everything seems to work OK.

Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573982] Re: LVM boot problem - volumes not activated after upgrade to Xenial

2017-05-01 Thread Tore Anderson
I ran across the same bug. It was caused by the root filesystem being
specified on the kernel command line with the root=UUID= syntax.
This is not handled by the case "$dev" in stanza in activate() in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2. See attached
screenshot. If I change the kernel command line to say
root=/dev/vg0/root instead it works.

** Attachment added: "Screenshot of initramfs lvm2 script failing on UUID root
syntax"

Title:
LVM boot problem - volumes not activated after upgrade to Xenial

Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Soon after upgrade to Xenial (from 15.10) the boot process got broken.
I'm using LVM for /root swap and other partitions.

  ===
  The current behaviour is:

When I boot short after the Grub login screen I'm getting log messages
  like:

  ---
  Scanning for Btrfs filesystems
resume: Could not state the resume device file: '/dev/mapper/VolGroup'
Please type in the full path...
  ---

Then I press ENTER, for a few minutes some errors about floppy device
access are raised (for some reason it tries to scan fd0 when floppy
  drive is empty). And then:

  ---
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: ...
  ...
  ALERT! UUID=xxx-xxx does not exist.
  Dropping to a shell.
  ---

From the BusyBox shell I managed to recover the boot by issuing "lvm
vgchange -ay", then exit and then boot continues fine (all LVM file
  systems are successfully mounted).

  ===
One workaround so far is creating
/etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2-manual script doing "lvm vgchange
-ay". But I'm looking for cleaner solution.

Boot used to work fine with 15.10. Actually the first boot after
upgrading to Xenial actually worked OK too, I'm not sure what might
changed meanwhile (I've been fixing some packages installation since
  mysql server upgrade has failed).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1458204] Re: removing kernels should not require a restart afterward

2017-05-01 Thread Jarno Suni
Yes, it is odd. I think the post-installation scripts will be run
because the depending linux-image- package might not get
removed (and is present at the time anyway), thus initramfs-tools is
used to create /boot/initrd.img- without the extra kernel
modules provided by linux-image-extra-. I guess that exception
could be handled in /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools alternatively.

Nowadays also /etc/kernel/postinst.d/unattended-upgrades touches
/var/run/reboot-required so, that should be modified, as well (if post-
installation script will be run).

BTW running the post-installation scripts then may cause other problem,
too: Bug #1678187

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1492180] Re: iwconfig reports wrong bitrate (6 Mb/s)

2017-05-01 Thread GPratique
Same problem after upgrading to :

Linux Mint 18.1 Serena Cinnamon 64b
Kernel 4.8.0-46-generic x86_64 on Dell Latitude E6520
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak]

RANT:
This bug is now 19 months old, and nobody is interested in fixing it (and i do
not have the knowledge to fix it myself). Tons of Linux bugs have the same
fate, lost in cyberspace :-(

[Touch-packages] [Bug 336736] Re: NetworkManager does not call /etc/network/if-pre-up.d scripts

2017-05-01 Thread Nicolas Diogo
Just another voice ... it would be good if this package worked
automagically as it suggests during the installation.

thanks,

Title:
NetworkManager does not call /etc/network/if-pre-up.d scripts

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

  Ubuntu 8.10, Linux 2.6.27-12-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 5 09:26:35 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux
  NetworkManager 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1.8.10.1

I've been trying to get a script to trigger on the "pre-up" phase of
network configuration, however, NetworkManager doesn't seem to call
  it's dispatcher for "pre-up" or "post-down" events.

None of the scripts I put in /etc/network/if-pre-up.d ever got called,
so I added the following line to the top of the dispatcher script
  "/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/01ifupdown":

  logger -t $0 "called with $1 $2"

Where $0 is the name of the script, $1 is the network interface and $2
  is the network event.

After bringing some network connections up and down, I checked the
logs, and NetworkManager doesn't seem to be calling
  "/etc/NetworkManager/dispatch.d/01ifupdown" for either "pre-up" or
"post-down" events. The only entries that show up are for "up" and
  "down" events.

According to the changelog both "pre-up" and "post-down" events are
supposed to be supported as of version 0.5.1-0ubuntu12:
