[Touch-packages] [Bug 1700318] [NEW] [Satellite L745, Conexant CX20585, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2017-06-24 Thread Geoffrey P.

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expected to have working sound. On an upgrade from 14.04 LTS I
would get an occasional pop or intro sound as Ubuntu booted up and then
it would be silent. I worked through all of the sound guides I could but
nothing worked. Actually, now I don't even get any sound at all.

4) Silence will fall when the question is asked, happened.

2017-06-24 Thread Joshua Thomas
Picture included

Please not for me this bug prevents me from performing updates to system.
i can only run Ubuntu, with Linux 4.8.0-54-generic.

If i run the 4.10.0-24 or 4.10.0-22 the system will halt at a black screen and
go no farther.
Also if i attempt to install updates or repair anything in the system; the two
above linix version loaders change. Originally they were 4.10.0-10 and
4.10.0-13.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1456670] Re: debootstrap failure: insserv: Service mountdevsubfs has to be enabled to start service hwclock

2017-06-24 Thread Norbert
Got this issue while upgrading 12.04 -> 14.04 -> 16.04 on step 14.04 -> 16.04.
Simply removed /var/lib/dpkg/info/util-linux.postinst with 'sudo rm
/var/lib/dpkg/info/util-linux.postinst' and run 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f'.

Incidentally, running Software updater now responds "Failed to download

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-06-24 Thread David Favor
This bug has been hanging round for over a year now.

While packages seem to install when this diagnostic emits, users always
have questions about this.

Be great if someone could fix this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1672822] Re: sound only coming from left speaker on acer predator (fresh install)

2017-06-24 Thread iLugo
I am also affected.

My system: ACER Predator 17 G9-791, running Kubuntu 17.04. Problem has
been permanent ever since first install (in dual boot with Windows) of
Kubuntu 16.04.

  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 16.10 and a fresh install of 17.04 and even

Device: acer predator: G9-593-7757 15,6"/i7-7700/32 GB RAM/512 GB
  SSD/1 TB HDD/GTX1070

expected: sound comes out of both left and right speaker and the
  subwoofer

  what happened instead:
Sound only comes out of the left speaker or subwoofer.

  More system information:

audio chip (on motherboard): VGA Chip nVidia N17E-G2-A1 GP104-725-A1

note that that is only 1 device, one would expect several here.

I attempted to fix this by modifying the /etc/pulse/deamon.conf into the
following:

but this did not work. I also tried various other permutations to see
if changing the order of front-left,front-right,lfe would work but it
did not. I also tried to see if it would work in fedora but the same
problem occurred there. When on ubuntu 16.10 at first only the
subwoofer seemed to be working and altering the file only the left
speaker was working. On ubuntu 17.04 only the left speaker was working
regardless of how I altered the above file.

Note that the speakers work perfectly fine on windows 10.

Looking around online there seem to be a lot of problems with acer
predator laptops and sound on ubuntu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1654448] Re: XPS 13 9360 and 9350, Realtek ALC3246, Headphone audio hiss

load-module module-echo-cancel aec_method=webrtc sink_name=cancel.out
source_name=cancel.src
set-default-source cancel.src
set-default-sink cancel.out

does not change anything either. To make the hiss disappear I have to
mute the hardware output device.

Would be glad if someone could point out how this is supposed to work.

2017-06-24 Thread Esokrates
Regarding the second question: The workaround "amixer -c 0 set
'Headphone Mic Boost',0 1" does lower the output volume significantly.
If your patch does the same as the workaround, then the output volume
would be significantly lower, I have not tested this yet though.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1698144] Re: "journalctl -k" doesn't respect kernel.dmesg_restrict

2017-06-24 Thread Simon Déziel
@xnox, many thanks for the detailed explanation. The membership
requirements are mentioned in journalctl(1) so I should have checked
that before opening a bug, sorry.

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) restrict dmesg to root only
  sudo kernel.dmesg_restrict=1
  2) check that root can still get dmesg
  sudo dmesg
  3) check a regular user cannot access dmesg and gets a denial
  dmesg
  4) check with journalctl
  journalctl -k

Here, journalctl should report a denial but instead if gives out the
dmesg output thus bypassing the restriction.

  Issue description:

On our systems, access to dmesg is restricted with
  kernel.dmesg_restrict=1 which works well:

$ sysctl kernel.dmesg_restrict
kernel.dmesg_restrict = 1
$ dmesg

But "journalctl -k" lets anyone bypass that restriction:

$ journalctl -k | wc -l

I am not a PA expert, but I guess you need to set the sink instead of
source.

I am not sure I fully understand your second question, but output volume
should remain the same.

Subject: Fixed it for ya

Not sure about your followers but some mods such as Brytenwalda have
options to hire a mercenary commander to lead a seperate party.

They don't perform fully as vassals but sort of as additional map
force you can have some limited control over.

Also mods with Diplomacy in them allow you as a vassal with fiefs to
commission patrols/etc but again those aren't really your own
vassals.

Title:
glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Jaunty:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Karmic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Fixes segmentation faults in glXGetFBConfigs() that happen frequently
when the nvidia binary drivers are present on the system (even if they
are not in use) by adding a null pointer check. While the SEGV seems
innocuous since it only happens with glxinfo, quite a few essential
programs such as compiz use glxinfo to detect GL capabilities and this
causes problems. This is fixed in Karmic which as of this time has
mesa 7.4.1, but the issue still stands in jaunty's 7.4.

  [Symptoms]
Segfaults in glxinfo. glxinfo reporting Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on
display.

  [Patch]
  http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28340399/mesa_7.4-0ubuntu3.2.debdiff

  [Test Case]
In an affected system (such as one with nvidia drivers loaded)
  1. Run glxinfo
  2. Errors with a segfault
  3. Attempt to start compiz
  4. Fails to start because it can't run glxinfo

  [Regression Potential]
Essentially none. It simply adds a null pointer check right before
dereferencing it.
This fix has been tested in Karmic as well as upstream for some time, and was
included in the 7.4.1 bugfix release.

  UPDATE:Oct 8 2008. installed daily updates ( 2.6.27-6-generic ) and
still getting this same glxinfo error on boot

I was running PlayOnLinux and tried to install 3d acceleration from
  there when glxinfo crashed.

Another question: You say your code does the same as the workaround
"amixer -c 0 set 'Headphone Mic Boost',0 1" ... so the output volume is
decreased too with your patch?

2017-06-24 Thread Esokrates
Thanks very much for the code!! Out of interest, how would you achieve
the noise cancellation with pulseaudio?

I tried

load-module module-echo-cancel source_name=test
set-default-source test

which did not work.

A new device appears called "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo (echo
cancelled with Built-in Audio Analog Stereo)" and one can move sound to
that virtual device. Sound works, but the hiss is still there. I do not
see how it would the hiss ...

Could you elaborate how one would do that with pulseaudio so I can test
it?

The launch-time key is only designed to hold a 32 bit integer and some day
that won't work. Additionally, a lot of people (based off the quantity of
crash reports) seem to have their clocks misconfigured (or are living in the
future!) which is causing a crash when update-manager tries to write the last
launch time.

  [Test Case]
  1) In a terminal run 'faketime -f '+43y' /usr/bin/update-manager'.
  2) Observe a traceback

With the version of update-manager from -proposed you will no longer
receive a traceback. The update-notifier change just supports reading
the 64 bit integer key and there are no crashes yet because its not
trying to read a 64 bit as 32 bits.

  [Regression Potential]
Its possible the breaks and depends are incorrect and that people would
receive a crash trying to read a 64 bit key as 32 bits. So double check those
carefully.

The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
update-manager. This problem was most recently seen with package version

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1693900] Re: apt-get update should return exit code != 0 on error

2017-06-24 Thread Jarno Suni
Because of this bug ppa-purge misbehaves (Bug #1514839). Should one
inspect the output of apt-get for '^Err:' (from standard output) or even
'^W:' (from standard error) to determine, if it updated the repositories
or not? Besides the output of `apt-get update` varies between versions
in supported Ubuntu releases: In Ubuntu 14.04 it does not print ':'
after 'Err', but ' ', instead.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1654448] Re: XPS 13 9360 and 9350, Realtek ALC3246, Headphone audio hiss

2017-06-24 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Basically, I did the same thing as "amixer -c 0 set 'Headphone Mic
Boost',0 1", and make the mic pin hidden as well. Otherwise, user space
tools will change the value.

According to Kailang, the "Audio hiss" also happens on Windows - but
windows has Noise Suppression filter, so it's not as noticeable as other
OS.

So there are two ways to workaround the issue - use something like diff
below, or use noise cancellation filter in PA.

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k4.4.0-57-generic.

When headphones are plugged in, there is a clearly audible hiss (white
noise). This is present as soon as the headphones are plugged in, whether
'headphones' or 'headset' are selected from the pop-up box.

Using alsamixer to debug the issue reveals that it is related to
"Headphone Mic Boost" - the default setting is: dB gain 0.00, 0.00. If
  this is changed to:

10.00, 10.00 (one notch up) the hiss disappears.
  20.00, 20.00 cause a louder hiss and
30.00, 30.00 causes an even louder hiss with high frequency audio artifacts.

When the headphones are removed and plugged back in the Headphone Mic
Boost setting returns to dB gain 0 and the problem also returns.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1700218] [NEW] Respect GtkTextView::monospace

2017-06-24 Thread Hồng Quân
Public bug reported:

As found by
https://github.com/gtimelog/gtimelog/issues/81#issuecomment-170923964,
Ambiance theme doesn't respect Gtk3's GtkTextView::monospace. It causes
issues on some apps. Gitg is affected as well.

My temporary workaround: https://quan.hoabinh.vn/blog/2017/6/46-fix-
