Thought I'd let you guys know, especially given the complaints above,
that oddly I just developed this exact same bug but in Windows! On a
Windows 10 only laptop which just updated itself to the 'Fall' Creators
edition or whatever it's called.

The gnome-shell apport package hook contains the following code:
14 attach_gsettings_package(report, 'gnome-shell-common')
15 attach_gsettings_schema(report, 'org.gnome.desktop.interface')
So not every apport bug report will include gnome-shell command history
and favorites.

I may have to, because it's even registering output changes on a
reinstall. I reedited those pulse audio files to change the number of
speakers, but that didn't help either, so I did a reinstall. I usually
try to avoid that. Thanks for the assistance.

This problem seems to be caused by a duplicate address, when another
host is trying to use the same address as the NTP server. I am using ntp
version 4.2.8p9, with two local patches applied.
In /var/log/ntp.log, the following three errors are repeated many times:

It's actually python3-apt's sourceslist.py which does the duplicate
checking and software properties is passing a type, '# deb-src', which I
think is an abuse of what python-apt expects. I believe it'd want a
'deb' or 'deb-src' type. So we end up in this strange situation where
are not searching

Regression in getaddrinfo(): calls block for much longer on Bionic

Apple, whose OS X Yosemite (10.10) will not even resolve DNS when
internet is down ("private networks don't exist"), simply chose the
wrong name for something that is basically only used by machines.
Their ".local" is not meant for manual use.

know why you would use mDNS for serious security anyway.
