@jweede

Hm. And is the instance booted with or without initramfs?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * This means that software installed via snap isn't transparently
  available for units to use. As snaps are first-class citizens in
  Ubuntu, we should update the PATH.

   * When a generator started to be provided by systemd, it was
  recognized that $PATH is not correctly set, nonetheless, due to an
  environment bug that systemd generators run in.

  [Testcase]

  $ systemd-run /usr/bin/env
  $ journalctl -e | grep PATH

  Output should contain /snap/bin

  Output should contain a complete and a valid PATH, i.e.
  PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/snap/bin"
or similar.

  [Regression Potential]

   * snapd generator was already fixed separately to cause no harm, when
  running under a broken systemd. With the corrected environment,
  generators will now run with a correct PATH out of the box. A slight
  change of PATH will be observed by all generators, when running in
  containers/initramfs-less boots. However most generators will not be
  affected as they typically do not execute external binaries.

  This has been driving me nuts for a while now. The scroll wheel on my
  desktop mouse (it's an MS wireless optical mouse model 1008) scrolls
  rather fast. Instead of moving a few lines, it scrolls half a page or
  more with a very gentle scroll. The bluetooth mouse I use with my
  laptop does not do this so it's probably somewhat hardware specific.
  However, I'm wondering if there is a way to modify the speed or
  sensitivity. I found an answer here from about a year ago
  (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/1339) that suggests
  there isn't a way but I'm wondering if anything has changed since
  then. I've also skimmed through synaptic but didn't see anything

  Thanks.

  1. Change main Ubuntu mirrors to https in /etc/apt/sources.list and do "apt

  2. Run software-properties-gtk

  The tab "Ubuntu Software" does not list https mirrors. The
  corresponding boxes are not checked, the correct "Download from" entry
  is not selected and falls back to "Main server". The correct sources
  are just listed under "Other Software".

  What should happen:

  The tab "Ubuntu Software" should recognize the https mirrors from apt

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1717796] Re: Bluetoothd fills 100% CPU when bluetooth keyboard goes in idle

2019-02-02 Thread johndow2001
Dear Ubuntu dev Team

DON'T MAKE "UPGRADES" WHICH CHANGE PERMISSIONS!!!

It is a permission problem with my home folder and pulseaudio.

I've had 2 issues:
 - bluetoothd operating at 100% of one CPU core
 - no way to connect ANY bt device

If happened after one of your "upgrades", so please test it MORE
THOROUGHLY next time. Yes, I'm certain it happened after an upgrade
cause I made backup 2 days prior to this extremely frustrating issue and
no software other than "ubuntu upgrade" was installed in the meantime.

After having researched internet twice and having already made my mind
to switch to another linux distro if the solution does't come up till
the end of the day - I came across this:

Run the following command to fix the $HOME directory permissions for the
current $USER:

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME/
I used
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/problem-with-pulse-audio-834041/
 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6208727 as sources.

The solution for me was to fix the permissions using the following
command: sudo chown -R lionel:lionel /home/lionel and then using
pavucontrol to unmute the output.

The gnome indicator is still greyed but music is back, and that's a good
thing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 311029] Re: curl and pycurl is not compiled with sftp support

Not sure what you mean by test case using the backend. But I compiled
version 7.63.0 and it looks like it works find. Though I just used git-
ftp to upload via sftp, but that worked smooth.

Here is what I did to install it with ubuntu 18.04. I had to compile
debhelper too.

git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debhelper
cd debhelper/
sudo apt-get install build-essential po4a
dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us
cd ..
sudo apt-get install dwz
sudo dpkg -i debhelper_12ubuntu1_all.deb

git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/curl
cd curl/
sudo apt-get install build-essential libssh-dev
dpkg-buildpackage -b -rfakeroot -us -uc
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i libcurl*.deb
sudo dpkg -i curl*.deb

Here the versions output:

# curl --version

  The SFTP is also missing from python-pycurl, probably because libcurl doesn't

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1730035] Re: Needs to depend on Python3

2019-02-02 Thread Joern Heissler
For those who really don't want python3-apport and apport installed, despite
what Ubuntu maintainers say:
Create a new package with "Provides: python3-apport" that is otherwise empty.
Then python3-apport and apport can be uninstalled.

Warning: This might break your system.

Title:
  Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Actually this might be a heisenbug. I've had an issue with this all
  morning since network-manager got an update this morning, but just now
  *while this bug was being submitted* it decided to correct itself.

  What I was getting was, on a machine (Dell XPS 13 9370) with WiFi and
  a (Caldigit) Thunderbolt 3 dock with an ethernet port: After the
  network-manager update I noticed everything was slower than I was used
  to, and in gnome-shell the network icon showing was the WiFi one, not
  the wired one.

  Looking at the output of route, or route -n for simplicity, I would
  see this:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
  Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254   0.0.0.0 UG60000 wlp2s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254   0.0.0.0 UG20100  00
enp63s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000   00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0   U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0   U 60000 wlp2s0

  So the metric on the default route on enp63s0 had 20,000 mysteriously
  added to it, which would obviously make it extremely low-priority. The
  system was choosing the wifi connection instead, which isn't that
  great in my office, hence observable slowness.

  Now, this morning, this seemed to be the sticky situation. It didn't
  show any sign of changing, whatever I did, after restarts of network-
  manager, undock/redock, reboots, etc. I could change it manually with
  ifmetric (and it would work), but that was about it.

  I would have reported the bug then, but I had to go out. When I got
  back I plugged in and initially saw the same thing again (that's where
  the above snippet was pasted from). But *while* the ubuntu-bug
  network-manager command was running, I noticed the gnome-shell network
  icon switch to wired, checked again, and saw:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
  Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254   0.0.0.0 UG10000
enp63s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254   0.0.0.0 UG20600  00 wlp2s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000   00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0   U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0   U 60000 wlp2s0

  So now the wifi connection has 20,000 added to it, which may still be
  wrong? But I wouldn't otherwise have noticed it because the system is
  again *behaving* as expected.

  This all seemed to happen after the network-manager upgrade (from
  1.12.6-0ubuntu4 to 1.15.2-0ubuntu1) this morning. I can't say if these
  metric+20,000 values were present before then, because I didn't have
  any cause to go looking at it, it always just worked. Could it be some
  issue with how the newer network-manager, or one of its associated
  packages, is figuring out the metrics on new connections? Like it's
  running some new heuristic to determine which one should really be the
  preferred? If it's like it was just now, when it fixed itself after a
  minute or so, that's not really a problem, but if it's like it was
  this morning when it just seemed to be stuck with the ethernet
  connection at 20100, it is.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814387] [NEW] swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

2019-02-02 Thread Stefan Gräber
Public bug reported:

If you position the mouse corsor on the edge of Dock and scroll, you can
switch the workspace, which behaves equivalent to the scrolling on the
"Show Applications" button in the corner.

I've reproduced it on other Ubuntu 18 installations of friends (all 3 I
tested, at least one was a fresh installation from the official iso).

It is not important where Dock is or whether a window or the desktop is next to
it. Program shortcuts have also no effect, because they end before it.
It works with a single or 2 monitors on all instances of Dock.

I use Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with all updates (via apt upgrade) installed
and observed it for several months now. (After starting apport for this
I updated again and nothing changed, no restart)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814284] Re: зависает всё

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814389] [NEW] Second extend of second lvmraid mirror does not sync

2019-02-02 Thread Steve Dodd
Public bug reported:

This is a weird corner case. Extending an lvmraid(7) type1 mirror for
the second time seems to result in the mirror legs not getting synced,
*if* there is another type1 mirror in the vg. This reliably reproduces
for me:

# quickly fill two 10G files with random data
openssl enc -aes-256-ctr -pass pass:"$(dd if=/dev/urandom bs=128 count=1
2>/dev/null | base64)" -nosalt < /dev/zero | dd bs=$((1024*1024*1024)) count=10
of=pv1.img iflag=fullblock
openssl enc -aes-256-ctr -pass pass:"$(dd if=/dev/urandom bs=128 count=1
2>/dev/null | base64)" -nosalt < /dev/zero | dd bs=$((1024*1024*1024)) count=10
of=pv2.img iflag=fullblock

# change loop devices if you have loads of snaps in use
losetup /dev/loop10 pv1.img
losetup /dev/loop11 pv2.img
pvcreate /dev/loop10
pvcreate /dev/loop11
vgcreate testvg /dev/loop10 /dev/loop11

lvcreate --type raid1 -L2G -n test testvg
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg

# wait for sync

lvcreate --type raid1 -L2G -n test2 testvg
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg

# wait for sync

# this will sync OK, observe kernel message for output from md subsys noting
time taken
#
lvextend -L+2G testvg/test2
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg

# wait for sync

# this will FAIL to sync, the sync will seem to complete instantly, e.g:
# Feb 02 15:22:50 asr-host kernel: md: resync of RAID array mdX
# Feb 02 15:22:50 asr-host kernel: md: mdX: resync done.
#
lvextend -L+2G testvg/test2

lvchange --syncaction check testvg/test2
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg

# observe error count

This may cause administrator alarm unnecessarily ... :/

For some reason the precise sizes with which the LVs are created, and
are then extended by, do appear to matter.

Bug description:
  === SRU Justification ===
  [Impact]
  Some Asus laptops report "discharging" when the battery is full and AC
  is plugged

  [Test]
  Charge battery to full, the issue appears.
  Users report with the patch the behaviour is correct.

  [Fix]
  The discharge rate is 0 on those machines. Use that to detect the wrong
  status report.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low. The quirk uses strict DMI to match affected systems.

  === Original Bug Report ===
  The AC adapter status is incorrectly reported when the battery is fully
charged. It always shows as if the adapter is not plugged in. If the battery is
drained for a while, the adapter status is shown correctly (both connects and
disconnects are shown).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814387] Re: swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, what's the output of the command?
- dpkg -l | grep dock

the bug is similar to bug #1719706 but that was fixed, do you use the
ubuntu dock or did you install dash to dock?

Title:
  swithching workspace by scrolling on edge of Dock (left side bar)

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  If you position the mouse corsor on the edge of Dock and scroll, you
  can switch the workspace, which behaves equivalent to the scrolling on
  the "Show Applications" button in the corner.

  I've reproduced it on other Ubuntu 18 installations of friends (all 3
  I tested, at least one was a fresh installation from the official
  iso).

  It is not important where Dock is or whether a window or the desktop is next
to it. Program shortcuts have also no effect, because they end before it.
  It works with a single or 2 monitors on all instances of Dock.

  I use Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with all updates (via apt upgrade) installed
  and observed it for several months now. (After starting apport for
  this I updated again and nothing changed, no restart)

Bug description:

  Dear Maintainer.

  I found a bug in pam_tty_audit.
  When Using the pam_tty_audit with other pam modules(ex, pam_ldap), it failed
in pam_open_session.
  It was triggared by use uninitialized variable in
pam_tty_audit.c::pam_open_session.

  * Enviroments
  Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
  linux-image-3.16.0-71-generic3.16.0-71.92~14.04.1
  libpam-ldap:amd64184-8.5ubuntu3

  libpam-ldap:amd64184-8.7ubuntu1
  libpam-modules:amd641.1.8-3.2ubuntu2

  * Reproduction method
  1. Install libpam-ldap.
  2. Add the following to the end of /etc/pam.d/common-sessions

  session required pam_tty_audit.so enable=* open_only

  3. When logging in with ssh etc., pam_tty_audit will fail and login fails

[Touch-packages] [Bug 145604]

2019-02-02 Thread Carolinewebb78
It was nice to get update on the patch for LCD filtering from SuSE
builds shared by David Turner, one of the freetype2 upstream developers
that means a lot for users to refer his concern about regarding the LCD
filtering and the Cairo patch are all on a public.

  Binary package hint: libcairo2

  There is a long-standing problem (Gutsy, Hardy, Intrepid - possibly
  Jaunty too) with sub-pixel rendering which affects metacity or compiz
  composition (see the images attached to this bug) when VRGB is chosen
  as the sub-pixel format. Comment #15 by MoMaT demonstrates a non-
  compiz scenario. My comments #2 and #10 demonstrate the issue with
  Compiz enabled.

  The underlying issue essentially seems to be: where should sub-pixel
  rendering should be done - in libcairo or in the font renderer
  (FreeType in this case) ?

  There have been two versions of the Ubuntu patch in
  libcairo/libcairo2. Reports seem to suggest that both versions may be
  responsible for the VRGB problem (however, that supposition needs
  checking - see Bob McElrath's comment #19).

  We need to be aware that libcairo (libcairo 1.5.4 in Universe) and
  libcairo2 (cairo 1.6.0 in Main) are similarly patched and will need
  similar fixes.

  [Testcase]

  $ systemd-run /usr/bin/env
  $ journalctl -e | grep PATH

  Output should contain /snap/bin

  Output should contain a complete and a valid PATH, i.e.
  PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/snap/bin"
or similar.

  [Regression Potential]

   * snapd generator was already fixed separately to cause no harm, when
  running under a broken systemd. With the corrected environment,
  generators will now run with a correct PATH out of the box. A slight
  change of PATH will be observed by all generators, when running in
  containers/initramfs-less boots. However most generators will not be
  affected as they typically do not execute external binaries.

  ```
  This does not happen linking against the same exact release of openssl
  compiled from source on the same system.
  I then learned that one of the patches applied by Debian and inherited
  also by Ubuntu has the goal of versioning library symbols to avoid
  conflicts.
  Unfortunately said patch is not updated regularly with each release of
  OpenSSL, resulting, like in my case, in symbols available in the public
  header files but masked through versioning in the shared library binary.
  The attached patch fixes my need by adding `EVP_PKEY_asn1_set_item` to
  the list, but you might consider an internal review of your release
  process to make sure that the list of symbols is updated whenever a new
  upstream releases makes new functions publicly available.
  I believe this bug is important, as it stops everyone using official
  packages from using third-party ENGINEs that require to use that
  function to set special handling of ASN.1 format, which basically
  includes every ENGINE that would add support for cryptosystems that
  upstream OpenSSL does not support (defying the purpose of using some
  ENGINEs).
  The patch I propose covers my use case, but basically the package as is
results
  unusable to any user of any application that may require functions
  available in the public headers but accidentally masked in the symbol
  versioning step.
  The ideal outcome of fixing this issue would consist in making the
  versioning patch dynamic, checking when symbols are added (or removed)
  in newer releases and updating the list accordingly.
  You might have the same versioning patch applied in other releases, so it's
  worth tagging this bug also for those to make the handling of the exposed
symbols consistent.
  Finally I also opened a similar bug against the equivalent Debian
oldstable-backports package, but I opened an Ubuntu-specific bug report because
16.04 ships a more recent version of the package and the inherited symbol
versioning patch has already been modified compared with the original Debian
one.
  For reference this is the Debian bug report:
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.02.176 (4.1ubuntu3)
How reproducible:
Seems to be reliably reproducible here on Ubuntu 18.04 at least.
Steps to Reproduce:
# quickly fill two 10G files with random data
openssl enc -aes-256-ctr -pass pass:"$(dd if=/dev/urandom bs=128 count=1
losetup /dev/loop11 pv2.img
pvcreate /dev/loop11
vgcreate testvg /dev/loop10 /dev/loop11
lvcreate --type raid1 -L2G -n test testvg
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg
# wait for sync
lvcreate --type raid1 -L2G -n test2 testvg
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg
# wait for sync
# the following will sync OK, observe kernel message for output from md subsys
noting time taken
#
lvextend -L+2G testvg/test2
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg
# wait for sync
# the following will FAIL to sync, the sync will seem to complete instantly,
e.g:
# Feb 02 15:22:50 asr-host kernel: md: resync of RAID array mdX
# Feb 02 15:22:50 asr-host kernel: md: mdX: resync done.
#
lvextend -L+2G testvg/test2
lvchange --syncaction check testvg/test2
watch lvs -o +raid_sync_action,sync_percent,raid_mismatch_count testvg
# observe error count
Actual results:
The sync after the final lvextend completes instantly, and a subsequent
lvchange --syncaction check reports a high number for
raid_mismatch_count
Expected results:
The sync after the final lvextend should take at least a few seconds,
and a subsequent lvchange --syncaction check should not report any
errors for raid_mismatch_count (unless the underlying hardware has
failed.)
Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Mounting manually a network share (NFS) and masking it breaks the state of
other units (and their dependencies).
  Casper is masking a mounted NFS share, blocking the normal boot process as
described in the original description, but the issue comes from systemd.
  [Test Case]
  - NFS mount point at /media
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep media
  10.230.56.72:/tmp/mnt on /media type nfs4
(rw,relatime,vers=4.2,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,clientaddr=192.168.122.127,local_lock=none,addr=10.230.56.72)
  - Test mount point (/test) defined in /etc/fstab:
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# cat /etc/fstab |grep test
  tmpfs /test tmpfs nosuid,nodev 0 0
  1. If media.mount is not masked, everything works fine:
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl status media.mount | grep Active
 Active: active (mounted) since Thu 2018-11-15 16:03:59 UTC; 3 weeks 6 days
ago
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl status test.mount | grep Active
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl stop test.mount
 Active: inactive (dead) since Thu 2018-12-13 10:38:32 UTC; 3s ago
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  2. If media.mount is masked, other mounts are failing:
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl mask media.mount
  Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/media.mount → /dev/null.
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl start test.mount
  Job for test.mount failed.
  See "systemctl status test.mount" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl status test.mount | grep Active
 Active: failed (Result: protocol) since Thu 2018-12-13 10:40:06 UTC; 10s
ago
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl stop test.mount
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl status test.mount | grep Active
 Active: failed (Result: protocol) since Thu 2018-12-13 10:40:06 UTC; 25s
ago
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl start test.mount
  Job for test.mount failed.
  See "systemctl status test.mount" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# systemctl stop test.mount
  root@iscsi-bionic:/home/ubuntu# mount | grep test
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  tmpfs on /test type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime)
  [Regression potential]
  Minimal. Originally, one failing mount point blocked the processing of
  the rest due to how the return codes were handled for every line in
  /proc/self/mountinfo. This patch removes this "dependency" and keeps
  the failure local to the affected mount point, allowing the rest to be
  processed normally.
  Original bug description is below:
  GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE network shares in file chooser - it used to do
  so in GTK+2, and the GTK+3 documentation still mentions it should do
  it.
  In the mean time, every user of every application switching to GTK+3
  -- including Chromium, at some point between 58 and 60 -- (a change
  which happened in 16.04 LTS!!), loses the functionality to open or
  save directly to a network share.
  I had chosen 16.04 LTS for deploying our workstations at work, and my 50
users have been suddenly unable to do a simple operation they have to do dozens
of times a day.
  They now have to "buffer" these files to their local filesystem when saving
them and before uploading them, and then copy them to the company's network
shares.
  They were already a little bit grumpy when it stopped working with Firefox,
and are now really side-eyeing me when they apply updates and find Chromium
broken.
  I have reported the bug upstream and provided a patch to fix this. I
  hope you'll be able and willing to include it to Ubuntu's GTK+3
  package.
  Thanks in advance.
  Colin
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814413] [NEW] Whatever I try to get a printer set up, I get a CUPS problem
2019-02-02 Thread John Bell
Public bug reported:
This is really not new, but it is frustrating that Ubuntu has not been
able to fix this over the years.  Just reinstalled 18.04 because I was
getting graphics driver problems which were preventing me even updating
software due to broken dependencies, and what should be an easy restore
is driving me crazy.  I had problems initially with my earlier
installation of 18.04 but it sorted itself out I don't know how.  Here
is the information gathered from the Ubuntu DebuggingPrintingProblems
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1782535] Re: cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync
2019-02-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for the detail, if 'gio' also has the issue then it's a lower
level issue and not a nautilus problem, reassigning.  That's also
probably an upstream issue and would be worth reporting on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib
  cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync
Bug description:
  Download performance is also strange, but not my biggest concern.
  Any idea, why Nautilus is uploading up to 10 times more slowly than
  rsync, although both using the same cifs, os, hardware, network etc.?
  PS: Further info for bug report
  1) The release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  2) The version of the package: Nautilus 3.26.3
  3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as with using rsync
  4) What happened instead: See above
[Touch-packages] [Bug 991360] Re: isc-dhcp-client does not send hostnames in DHCPv6 by default
2019-02-02 Thread Craig McQueen
The opening line is somewhat misleading, even if in some sense it may be
technically correct.
> DHCPv6 does not have a host-name option to send the client hostname to
register with the DHCP server.
See option 39 OPTION_CLIENT_FQDN, and RFC 4704 "The Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol for IPv6 (DHCPv6) Client Fully Qualified Domain
Name (FQDN) Option".
Bug description:
  DHCPv6 does not have a host-name option to send the client hostname to
  register with the DHCP server.  There are several potential options
  here:
  1)  Use the same "magic" to insert the hostname via fqdn.fqdn (i.e. "send
fqdn.fqdn "";"  This should work with DHCPv4 as well.
  2)  Backport the gethostname() functionality from DHCP 4.2.
  3)  Upgrade to isc-dhcp-client 4.2.
  Perhaps some of these are more appropriate to consider for the Q
  cycle.  Personally, I think option 1 (implementing "" magic)
  for fqdn.fqdn would be the least intrusive.
  As issues go, this is admittedly minor.
  [SRU] Slow startup with zram-config installed (/dev/zram0) or
  encrypted swap
Status in Default settings and artwork for Baltix OS:
Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in initramfs-tools package in Debian:
  Fix Released
Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Ubuntu 18.04 startup slowdowns for 30-120 seconds when zram swap is enabled
(for example zram-config installed) or swap is encrypted.
  Today lots of users have SSD instead of HDD disk drives and use zram swap
instead of swap partition or swap file, but if initrd is generated when zram
swap is enabled then system can become "unbootable" from the user's perspective
(Users with SSD storage doesn't wait 2 or more minutes...)
  This bug is already fixed in Debian initramfs-tools ver 0.132, please accept
this simple 3 lines patch from Debian into Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/initramfs-tools/commit/312393b0cf1231125eeff3d1a2b6b778a935c21d
  [Test Case]
  Install zram-config package and regenerate and initrd, for example with
  sudo update-initramfs -u
  When generating initrd I get this message in terminal:
  I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/zram0
  I: (UUID=e380356c-767e-4265-98da-8be62ad28569)
  I: Set the RESUME variable to override
this.###.]
  So the local-premount script in initramfs was waiting for a swap
  device that was not available, until it timed out. The relevant
  message was gave up waiting for suspend/resume device.
  [Regression Potential]
  None, patch simply adds case for /dev/zram*:
  60case "$resume_auto" in
  61/dev/zram*)
  62ephemeral=true
  63;;
  64esac
  [Other Info]
  Manual method to disable this (as resuming from swap is not possible with an
encrypted or zram swap): modify file /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume - add
(or change) line
  RESUME=none
  (instead of the UUID that was here) will disable waiting for a resume device.
  and run sudo update-initramfs -u to apply the changes.
Bug description:
  [Impact]
  The problem occurs when the printer's driver package is updated and
  with this the PPD is replaced and one of the default settings of the
  queue is not available any more in the new PPD file. Then the setting
  is prefixed with "Custom." and with this the jobs fail.
  See comment #15 for more info.
  [Test Case]
  - Create a print queue with a PPD.
  - evince an arbitrary PDF file
  - Click the print icon
  - In the print dialog choose the newly created queue and choose some uncommon
paper size (not custom). Click "Print".
  - Check /var/log/cups/error_log, the page size gets correctly received.
  - Close evince.
  - Stop CUPS, edit the PPD file removing the paper size you have selected for
your job in the PageSize, PageRegion, PaperDimension, and ImageableArea lines.
  - Start CUPS.
  - Open the same PDF file again with evince, click Print and then select
"Print" in the print dialog without changing anything.
  - The job fails, in /var/log/cups/error_log you see that the page size is
prefixed with "Custom.".
  With the fixed package installed the job will print.
  [Regression Potential]
  The change applies only to saved settings of the print dialog not
  matching with any of the settings available in the PPD file. In rare
  cases the fix could fail by mis-understanding the setting and this way
  not being effective. For options which do not support setting custom
  values (the vast majority) the patch should always prevent a job
  failure though.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session
2019-02-02 Thread Don van der Haghen
Attached patch (which is based on pam_1.1.8-3.6ubuntu2) fixes the issue for
Ubuntu 18.04/Bionic
Following fix was implemented as mentioned by the reporter of the LP bug:
https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/commit/c5f829931a22c65feffee16570efdae036524bee
I tested the patch and it indeed resolves the issue: pam_tty_audit now
works as expected and users are still able to login after adding:
session required pam_tty_audit.so enable=root
to
/etc/pam.d/common-session
"aureport --tty" shows the expected output.
  * Fix: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session (LP: #1666203)
The patch has also been submitted to Debian.
