[Touch-packages] [Bug 1821269] Re: [Aspire ES1-131, Realtek ALC255, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch (4-pole combo jack mic doesn't detect)

2019-05-23 Thread Ji-min Hong
I installed oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.1_all.deb
And rebooted my PC and plugged in apple earset.
But earset's mic doesn't work too.

compressed.zip contains 3 files.

20190523-00
 : Ubuntu sound setting screenshot. "내부마이크" is laptop's internal mic. And
earset's mic doesn't appear.
20190523-01
 : I installed "PulseAudio Volume Control" package. When I installed
oem-audio-xxx.deb, "Mic(unplugged)" is added. I changed to this from
내부마이크(internal mic). but it operated like laptop's internal mic.

As a result, the earset's mic does not work.

alsa-info.txt.ALf0UgderM
 : This is new "alsa-info.txt" file.
Please check it.

I'll remove oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.1_all.deb package.
Thank you.

While it isn't clear from the bug updates alone IRC chat gave me the impression
that this will be handled by you and the security Team (to push to -security) -
is that correct or is any help needed that I miss?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * If an update has a new conffile at a path that in a former version was
     a directory like
  old: /a/b/c
  new: a/b
     Here b is the new file name and was a directory in the old version.
     Then unattended upgrades breaks on installing such a package.

   * a recent qemu update has such a case and due to that triggered the
     issue in >=Bionic

   * The fix is to harden unattended upgrades to be able to handle the case
     without aborting.

  [Test Case]

  Get a qemu guest e.g. of Bionic before the update to 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.12
  That can be done with:
    $ time uvt-simplestreams-libvirt --verbose sync --source
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 label=daily release=bionic
    $ uvt-kvm create --password ubuntu bionic-testuu arch=amd64 release=bionic
label=daily

  Log in and apt update & upgrade all packages, then Install the release level
qemu in there.
    $ uvt-kvm ssh bionic-testuu
    $ sudo apt update
    $ sudo apt dist-upgrade
    $ sudo apt install unattended-upgrades
    $ sudo apt install qemu-guest-agent=1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7

  All before was preparation, now force the unattended upgrade to trigger the
bug.
    $ sudo unattended-upgrade -d

  With the bug you'll find some error like:
  found pkg: qemu-guest-agent
  conffile line: /etc/init.d/qemu-guest-agent f61a64ac1e48993023018fd1cff85191

  /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook/fsfreeze-hook not in package conffiles
/etc/init.d/qemu-guest-agent
  /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook
  found conffile /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook in new pkg but on dpkg status

  with open(prefix + conf_file, 'rb') as fp:
  IsADirectoryError: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook'

  [Regression Potential]

   * The fix is trying to detect moved conffiles by looking for /etc/foo/foo
when the new package ships /etc/foo and /etc/foo is not a known conffile and
also checking the renames in the opposite direction.
  The potential regression is breaking the logic for detecting changed
conffiles and either holding back a package for no reason or trying to install
a package with a modified conffile on the system and aborting the upgrade in
the middle due to the appearing conffile prompt. To avoid such regressions the
test_conffile.py tests are extended to cover rename scenarios.

  [Other Info]

   * n/a

  ---

  As reported on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1820291/comments/20
  We fixed an issue and we added workrounds since basic mv_conffile coudn't
handle it and did all sort of upgrade tests.

  That all worked fine and moved the conffile.

  It was now reported that due to some pre-checks that unattended
  upgrades might do this might do some checks on its own.

  Next step:
  - check unattended upgrades through this change
  - check if it only affects cases were the former config was modified
(minority) or the default file layout (majority)

  --- original report copied ---

  just wanted to add: This bug also crashes unattended-upgrade and thus
  prevents security updates on 18.04:

  root@mailin1:~# unattended-upgrade
  Traceback (most recent call last):

  with open(prefix + conf_file, 'rb') as fp:
  IsADirectoryError: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook'

  Basically, unattended-upgrade wants to compare old/new conffiles and
  doesn't like it when the old conffile tu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1821269] Re: [Aspire ES1-131, Realtek ALC255, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch (4-pole combo jack mic doesn't detect)

2019-05-23 Thread Hui Wang
checked the alsa-info.txt in #14, found the lifebook-extmic doesn't take
effect, "model=liefbook-extmic" was added to kernel-4.19 but we are
using kerel-4.15. So please test this dkms, if headset-mic still doesn't
work, please generate an alsa-info.txt too.

thx.

To install the dkms:
sudo dpkg -i oem-audio-xxx.deb
reboot

to remove the dkms:
sudo dpkg -P oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms
reboot

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1830283] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is an LTS release upstream, which will continue to
  receive security support for much longer than 1.1.0 series will.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with support for TLS v1.3 which is expected to
  be rapidly adopted due to increased set of supported hashes & algoes,
  as well as improved handshake [re-]negotiation.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with improved hw-acceleration capabilities.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is ABI/API compatible with 1.1.0, however some
  software is sensitive to the negotiation handshake and may either need
  patches/improvements or clamp-down to maximum v1.2.

  [Test Case]

   * Rebuild all reverse dependencies

   * Execute autopkg tests for all of them

   * Clamp down to TLS v1.2 software that does not support TLS v1.3
  (e.g. mongodb)

   * Backport TLS v1.3 support patches, where applicable

  [Test cases for the python updates]

  python3.7 is a preview in bionic as a non-supported/non-default
  version of python3. Passing it's own autopkgtests is sufficient
  validation for python3.7. It includes a point release update, with
  OpenSSL 1.1.1 compat and features.

  python3.6 not only has OpenSSL 1.1.1 compat and features patches, but
  also includes a point release update to 3.6.8. It has been part of the
  full-archive rebuild and regression analysis. Autopkgtests were
  triggered for python3.6 and python3-defaults with regressions already
  fixed in the individual packages as appropriate.

  python2.7 has the update from .15~rc1 to .15 final, with OpenSSL 1.1.1
  compat only. It has been part of the full-archive rebuild and
  regression analysis. Autopkgtests were triggered for python2.7 and
  python-defaults with regressions already fixed in the individual
  packages as appropriate.

  The archive rebuilds done, were commulative with OpenJDK 11, OpenSSL 1.1.1
and python point releases as seen in:

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20181222-bionic.html

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20181222-test-bionic.html

  And analyzed in

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tMIwlwoHH_1h5sbvUbNac6-HIPKi3e0Xr8ebchIOU1A/edit#gid=147857652

  [Regression Potential]

   * Connectivity interop is the biggest issues which will be
  unavoidable with introducing TLS v1.3. However, tests on cosmic
  demonstrate that curl/nginx/google-chrome/mozilla-firefox connect and
  negotiate TLS v1.3 without issues.

   * Mitigation of discovered connectivity issues will be possible by
  clamping down to TLS v1.2 in either server-side or client-side
  software or by backporting relevant support fixes

   * Notable changes are listed here
  https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/TLS1.3

   * Most common connectivity issues so far:
     - client verifies SNI in TLSv1.3 mode, yet client doesn't set hostname.
Solution is client change to set hostname, or to clamp down the client to
TLSv1.2.

     - session negotiation is different in TLSv1.3, existing client code
  may fail to create/negotiate/resume session. Clients need to learn how
  to use session callback.

     - non-application data records. TLSv1.3 sends more of these, when compared
with previous versions, and some applications may not handle this correctly.
Resulting in application data not being available, when previously expected.
Mitigation around these involve disabling/enabling SSL_MODE_AUTO_RETRY or
setting max protocol version to TLSv1.2. For example see discussion identified
in the perl stack https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=914034
  Similar hangs are possible with prior versions of TLS as well, it is however
easier to trigger this with TLSv1.3.

   * Deprecated npn extenstion does not exist in TLSv1.3 implementation.

   * This update bundles python 3.6 and 3.7 point releases

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1668771] Re: systemd-resolved negative caching for extended period of time

2019-05-23 Thread Drew Freiberger
This affects bionic openstack cloud environments when os-*-hostname is
configured for keystone, and the keystone entry is deleted temporarily
from upstream dns, or the upstream dns fails providing no record for the
lookup of keystone.endpoint.domain.com.

We have to then flush all caches across the cloud once DNS issue is
resolved, rather than auto-healing at 60 seconds as if we were running
nscd with negative-ttl set to 60 seconds.

Ultimately, a negative TTL that is settable would be ideal, or the
ability to not cache negative hits would also be useful. Only
workaround now is to not use caches or to operationally flush caches as
needed.

  If a DNS lookup returns SERVFAIL, systemd-resolved seems to cache the

  After SERVFAIL DNS server issue has been resolved, chromium/firefox

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1668771] Re: systemd-resolved negative caching for extended period of time

2019-05-23 Thread James Hebden
This is especially upsetting in an OpenStack and server environment
where external DNS is being used to reach/resolve API endpoints and
other systems such as database servers. A small outage to DNS becomes a
potentially unbounded outage when the SERVFAIL responses are cached
indefinitely, requiring manual intervention on each host in addition to
fixing the cause of the SERVFAIL.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * If an update has a new conffile at a path that in a former version was
     a directory like
  old: /a/b/c
  new: a/b
     Here b is the new file name and was a directory in the old version.
     Then unattended upgrades breaks on installing such a package.

   * a recent qemu update has such a case and due to that triggered the
     issue in >=Bionic

   * The fix is to harden unattended upgrades to be able to handle the case
     without aborting.

  [Test Case]

  Get a qemu guest e.g. of Bionic before the update to 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.12
  That can be done with:
    $ time uvt-simplestreams-libvirt --verbose sync --source
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 label=daily release=bionic
    $ uvt-kvm create --password ubuntu bionic-testuu arch=amd64 release=bionic
label=daily

  Log in and apt update & upgrade all packages, then Install the release level
qemu in there.
    $ uvt-kvm ssh bionic-testuu
    $ sudo apt update
    $ sudo apt dist-upgrade
    $ sudo apt install unattended-upgrades
    $ sudo apt install qemu-guest-agent=1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7

  All before was preparation, now force the unattended upgrade to trigger the
bug.
    $ sudo unattended-upgrade -d

  With the bug you'll find some error like:
  found pkg: qemu-guest-agent
  conffile line: /etc/init.d/qemu-guest-agent f61a64ac1e48993023018fd1cff85191
  current md5: f61a64ac1e48993023018fd1cff85191

  /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook/fsfreeze-hook not in package conffiles
/etc/init.d/qemu-guest-agent
  /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook
  found conffile /etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook in new pkg but on dpkg status
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade", line 2057, in
  sys.exit(main(options))

    File "/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade", line 988, in conffile_prompt
  with open(prefix + conf_file, 'rb') as fp:

   * n/a

  ---

  As reported on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1820291/comments/20
  We fixed an issue and we added workrounds since basic mv_conffile coudn't
handle it and did all sort of upgrade tests.

  That all worked fine and moved the conffile.

  It was now reported that due to some pre-checks that unattended
  upgrades might do this might do some checks on its own.

  Next step:
  - check unattended upgrades through this change
  - check if it only affects cases were the former config was modified
(minority) or the default file layout (majority)

  --- original report copied ---

  just wanted to add: This bug also crashes unattended-upgrade and thus
  prevents security updates on 18.04:

  root@mailin1:~# unattended-upgrade
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade", line 1998, in
  sys.exit(main(options))
    File "/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade", line 1714, in main
  if conffile_prompt(item.destfile):
    File "/usr/bin/unattended-upgrade", line 929, in conffile_prompt
  with open(prefix + conf_file, 'rb') as fp:
  IsADirectoryError: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/etc/qemu/fsfreeze-hook'

  Basically, unattended-upgrade wants to compare old/new conffiles and
  doesn't like it when the old conffile turns out to be a directory...

  This prevents security updates to be installed. The unattended-upgrade
  logs do not contain the trace, only the messages:

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  UK keyboard is NOT available as an input method in uBuntu 14.04 LTS
  ibus (1.5.5-1ubuntu3) input method selection.

  Please can someone fix this omission by adding the appropriate info to
  /usr/share/ibus/component/simple.xml as having the system incorrectly
  default to a US keyboard is a real pain - you can't put anything in
  quotes or pipe output from one command into another. It makes a UK
  keyboard system unusable.

  My simple solution is to add the 'gb' keyboard as follows:

xkb:gb::eng
eng
GPL
gb
English (UK)
English (UK)
  ibus-keyboard
99

  A better solution would be to process files in
  /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols and add ALL available xkb keyboards to
  simple.xml as a post installation operation. Doing this would help
  people see the advantages of ibus instead of fighting it to try and
  get a usable system.

Bug description:
  On Ubuntu 18.04 using the `vanilla-gnome-desktop` session (i.e. Gnome
  Shell), tracker does not return any files if there is a hyphen (-) in
  the search string.

  To recreate:

  - Create a file named `foo-bar`.

  - Press  to open Overview.

  - Type foo. Observe that the `foo-bar` file appears.

  - Type foo-. Observe that the overview says "No results."

  This is a regression as files with hyphens in the filename were
  included in search results in 16.04.

     Then unattended upgrades breaks on installing such a package.

   * a recent qemu update has such a case and due to that triggered the
     issue in >=Bionic

   * The fix is to harden unattended upgrades to be able to handle the case
     without aborting.

  [Test Case]

  Get a qemu guest e.g. of Bionic before the update to 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.12
  That can be done with:
    $ time uvt-simplestreams-libvirt --verbose sync --source
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 label=daily release=bionic
    $ uvt-kvm create --password ubuntu bionic-testuu arch=amd64 release=bionic

    $ sudo apt install qemu-guest-agent=1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7

  All before was preparation, now force the unattended upgrade to trigger the
bug.

  Basically, unattended-upgrade wants to compare old/new conffiles and

  This prevents security updates to be installed. The unattended-upgrade

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1783283] Re: setvtrgb.service incorrectly ordered [with patchy]

2019-05-23 Thread Steve Langasek
If this is racy, then it should be possible to trigger it reliably by
adding sleep commands to one or more units.

I have looked at the topology of the base units in Ubuntu and I don't
see any bugs. I don't understand your assertion that After=plymouth-
quit-wait.service is insufficient or why you refer to plymouth-quit
being queued "instead" of plymouth-quit-wait, which I do not see as a
possible outcome of the unit dependencies.

And if there is something to be fixed here, I think it's the reliability
of the plymouth-quit-wait dependency, not changing the dependency of
setvtrgb.

Title:
  setvtrgb.service incorrectly ordered [with patchy]

Status in console-setup package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  setvtrgb is not correctly ordered when used with plymouth. It has an
After=plymouth-quit-wait.service, but that may not be applicable when
plymouth-quit.service is queued instead. This ultimately results in semi-random
setvtrgb results as calling setvtrgb too soon will do nothing if the VTs aren't
up/still getting fiddled with with by plymouth. So, depending on the unit tree
the VT may have the correct custom color, or the default kernel color.
  Since this is entirely dependent on the units being started, and their
effective order, this is super hard to reproduce reliably. The most reliable
way I have is an ISO which has Calamares instead of Ubiquity and SDDM instead
of GDM, which 100% of the time ends up having a unit order where setvtrgb is
called way too soon (even before getty.target, although I am not sure that
matters as far as the VT colors are concerned).

  The solution seems excitingly simple though. Adding an After=plymouth-
  quit.service rule correctly orders the unit at least in my test case.
  Since After is only an order hint this should be entirely regression
  free.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1353013] Re: Popping/Crackling sound when playing audio in Ubuntu 14.04

2019-05-23 Thread Dane Mutters
I'm seeing this bug in Linux Mint 19.1 (Ubuntu 18.04 base). The audio
devices do not appear and disappear in the "Sounds" GUI. The workaround
I've found is to do this in a terminal:

pulseaudio -k && sleep 5 ; pulseaudio -D

Sometimes this works for hours, and sometimes it works for minutes,
after killing/restarting the PulseAudio daemon, as above.

  while this is happening, I see "Headphone Output" rapidly appearing

  appearance and disappearance of "Headphone Output" coincides with the
  popping and crackling of the sound.

  I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my Nvidia
  card has a built-in HDMI card that might be interfering with my
  onboard sound:

  $ cat /proc/asound/cards

HDA Intel PCH at 0xf722 irq 54

HDA NVidia at 0xf708 irq 55
  cat /proc/asound/modules

  Obviously blacklisting "snd_hda_intel" in
  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf won't work, because it then disables
  all sound (both onboard and nvidia are listed as snd_hda_intel).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828282] Re: busybox 1.30.1 crashes bzip2 test case with glibc 2.29, always

  busybox 1.30.1 crashes bzip2 test case with glibc 2.29, always

Status in BusyBox:
  Confirmed
Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Invalid
Status in busybox package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in glibc package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Get a system with glibc 2.29

  2) Get busybox 1.30.1 installed (e.g. eoan, or download busybox
  package from
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/busybox/1:1.30.1-4ubuntu3/+build/16724246
  and use $ apt install ./busybox*.deb to install)

  3) Get busybox 1.30.1 source code, e.g. $ pull-lp-source busybox
  Or like download the orig tarball from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/busybox/1:1.30.1-4ubuntu3

  4) Run the bunzip2 testsuite:

  cd testsuite/
  ECHO=/bin/echo ./bunzip2.tests

  Observe that with glibc 2.29 the:
  PASS: bunzip2: bz2_issue_11.bz2 corrupted example

  is XFAIL or FAIL, on s390x, whereas it passes on all other arches.

  If one uses glibc 2.28 (ie. use Cosmic, and install busybox & use
  matching test suite from eoan using links above) one can observe that
  the testcase always passes.

  We suspect this might be a glibc 2.29 s390x-specific setjmp
  regression. Probably due to setjmp usage in
  ./archival/libarchive/decompress_bunzip2.c

  The tests were done on a z13 machine.

  After cupsd gets restarted it rewinds it's job counter to the last

  2. while [ 1 ]; do lp -d PDF somepdf.pdf; done;
  3. # on other terminal
 kill -9 $(pidof cupsd)
  4. Note last job number and wait for cupsd to be restarted by systemd.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2019-05-23 Thread Gert Kruger
I have a NVIDIA Corporation GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050] card and ubuntu 19.04
installed. After installing the lastest Nvidia driver-430, the dektop GUI is
lost when you reboot (18.10 gave the same issue). I tried many proposed
solutions, including the one above. Nothing worked.
I finally found a solution for this Nvidia driver issue (on ubuntu 18 and 19).
See instructions at the top at
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2419319&highlight=nvidia+drivers, it
worked for me!

  After cupsd gets restarted it rewinds it's job counter to the last
  cached and continues unaware about the jobs accepted and lost.

  Having DirtyCleanInterval set to 0 will cause some performance impact,
  but not significant under lighter workloads and a completely justified
  price for reliability under heavy workloads.

  Test scenario:
  1. sudo apt install printer-driver-cups-pdf
  2. while [ 1 ]; do lp -d PDF somepdf.pdf; done;
  3. # on other terminal
 kill -9 $(pidof cupsd)
  4. Note last job number and wait for cupsd to be restarted by systemd.
  5. Once accepting jobs is resumend the job counter is rewound.

  Expected behavior:
  Accepted jobs are queued for processing.

  Actual behavior:
  Some accepted jobs are lost.

In short bz2_issue_11.bz2 test case always fails on s390x since bunzip2
depends on uninitialised values, which happen to always be "wrong" on
s390x.

This is observable with valgrind too:

For the time being we are skipping the bz2_issue_11.bz2 test case in ubuntu.

  Observe that with glibc 2.29 the:

  If one uses glibc 2.28 (ie. use Cosmic, and install busybox & use
  matching test suite from eoan using links above) one can observe that
  the testcase always passes.

  We suspect this might be a glibc 2.29 s390x-specific setjmp

  ./archival/libarchive/decompress_bunzip2.c

  The tests were done on a z13 machine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1823070] Re: unattended-upgrades should tell the user (via motd) when security updates are held back

Title:
  unattended-upgrades should tell the user (via motd) when security
  updates are held back

Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Currently we have the following pieces as part of the default UX on
  Ubuntu 18.04 and later:

   1) unattended-upgrades automatically installs security updates daily by
default
   2) the motd reports the number of available updates, including security
updates.

  A user who knows about 1) also knows that a non-zero number of pending
  security updates listed in 2) is nothing to worry about.

  However, unattended-upgrades will also cleverly detect when a security
  update cannot safely be installed non-interactively due to conffile
  changes on the system.

  In this case, unattended-upgrades should also inform the user via the
  motd that these updates are not being installed. Otherwise, there's
  nothing to tell the user that the non-zero count of available security
  updates in motd is a *problem*.

  Suggested wording:

   N security updates will not be automatically installed due to local changes.
   See /var/log/foo for details.

Bug description:
  [Background]
  Many packages are affected by the requirement to support the new era "Reiwa"
(令和)

  This is the meta bug to track packages that need fixes; which packages
  have already been SRUd to previous releases, how to prioritize the
  work needed, and general test cases for verifying that things are
  working as expected.

  [Impact]
  Users who run Ubuntu in Japanese.

  [Test cases]

  == Date conversion ==

  On applications that support writing dates in long form, or with
  symbols to denote era (either in X00.00.00 format or in GG1G5G1G
  format  (G- glyph; X- character):

  1) Enable date formatting in each of the above formats that are supported
(long form or symbols)
  2) Type in '2019/05/01' to be formatted, verify that it shows as "令和1年5月1日"
or "R1.05.01"
  3) Type in '2019/04/30' to be formatted, verify that it shows as "平成31年4月30日"
or "H31.4.30"

  == Date output ==

  1) Set date to 2019/05/01
  2) Output date; verify that the year it is displayed as "令和元年"
  3) Set date to 2019/04/30
  4) Output date; verify that the year is diplayed as "平成31年"

  === Displaying formatted year for Japanese era with glibc ===

  Run:
  LC_ALL=ja_JP.utf8 date +%EY -d 20190430   # previous era (should still work
as before SRUs)
  or
  LC_ALL=ja_JP.utf8 date +%EY -d 20190501   # new era (should now correctly
display the new era)

  == Character maps / font support ==

  1) Search for character "SQUARE ERA NAME"
  2) Verify that the results include at least "SQUARE ERA NAME HEISEI" and
"SQUARE ERA NAME REIWA" (there should also be Syouwa, Taisyou and Meizi), and
that the glyphs are readable:

   - SQUARE ERA NAME HEISEI: ㍻
   - SQUARE ERA NAME REIWA: 令和 (in a single glyph)

  Display of the Reiwa square glyph is font-specific; it may show simply
  as a empty square or a square with hex characters. If that is the
  case, the unicode data supports the new character, but the selected
  font does not include the new glyph.

  == Typing / input methods ==

  1) Type in 'heisei'

  My laptop has internal mic. It belongs to Intel sound(HDA Intel PCH. Audio
device: Intel Corporation Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx
Series High Definition Audio Controller (rev 21)).
  Internal mic works well.

  Please check 4pole external mic detection.

  Thank you.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1830169] Re: lvm udev rule fails to call systemd-run

2019-05-23 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
On fresh disco and up installations this "just works" due to /usr-merge
by default.

On prior releases bin dir is configurable at lvm build time, which we
set to /bin (as that's where we want lvm2 utils to end up), but that's
not the location of systemd-run.

Needs a manual patch to lvm2, to support split-/usr systems (older
releases & upgraded systems)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1825194] Re: [SRU] resolvconf is racy, which leads to broken resolv.conf in parallel calls

2019-05-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package resolvconf - 1.78ubuntu7

---
resolvconf (1.78ubuntu7) xenial; urgency=medium

  * bin/resolvconf: use flock so resolvconf can be called in parallel
safely (LP: #1825194).

  [SRU] resolvconf is racy, which leads to broken resolv.conf in
  parallel calls

Status in resolvconf package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in resolvconf source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  The bug can lead to non-working DNS. This is a critical bug that needs
  to be fixed in the stable release.

  The patch fixes the bug by using a file lock via the flock command.

  [Test case]

  This script should eventually stop with the current version, thing
  that should not happen after applying the patch:

  while true; do
  printf "\n" | sudo resolvconf -a NetworkManager
  printf "nameserver 8.8.8.8\n" | sudo resolvconf -a networkd
  wait
  printf "nameserver 8.8.8.8\n" |
  sudo resolvconf -a NetworkManager &
  printf "\n" | sudo resolvconf -a networkd
  wait
  ping -c 1 www.google.com || break
  done

  [Regression Potential]

  The patch is small and what it does is straightforward. It has also
  been thoroughly tested. However, the effect if something is wrong
  would be not being able to resolve DNS names, which is disastrous, so
  it needs to be very well tested for the SRU.

  [Other Info]

  It has been found that simultaneous calls to resolvconf can lead to
  inconsistent content in resolv.conf. For instance, no nameservers
  while NetworkManager has one in its record (see LP: #1824395):

  $ cat /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
  # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
  # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN

  $ cat /run/resolvconf/interface/NetworkManager
  nameserver 192.168.1.6
  nameserver 192.168.1.2

  This can happen easily when calling "netplan apply", which can re-
  start both networkd and NM. resolvconf is called at that point by the
  "systemd-networkd-resolvconf-update.service" service, and also
  directly by NetworkManager, which leads to the situation described
  above. This is not surprising as there is nothing preventing different
  instances of resolvconf to access the same files. This sort of
  situation can be reproduced by running in a loop commands like:

  $ printf "\n" | sudo resolvconf -a NetworkManager & printf "\n" | sudo
resolvconf -a networkd
  $ printf "nameserver 80.58.61.250\n" | sudo resolvconf -a NetworkManager &
printf "\n" | sudo resolvconf -a networkd

  Eventually, this leads to a resolv.conf that is not consistent with
  the last run command.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1815649] Re: Vim on Ubuntu Disc 19.04 does not work

2019-05-23 Thread rtimai
Sebastien's information is correct (Thanks!) Command 'vim.tiny' works.
Also 'vi'.

I think the confusion is the user expects a graphical application. Vim-
tiny, the default installation in Ubuntu, is a console (Terminal)
application. To get the graphical version, install gVim in Ubuntu
Software.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1829566] Re: network-manager 1.10.14-0ubuntu2 ignores systemd-resolved configured dns

2019-05-23 Thread Mal
Installed the systemd from the ppa and the .14 NM package:

ii  network-manager 1.10.14-0ubuntu2
ii  systemd 237-3ubuntu10.22~ppa1

Rebooted, gave it a spin and no good, I'm afraid. The 127.0.0.54
resolver was still left out of the loop. I've since gone back to the
public systemd version and once again downgraded NM to restore
functionality as I need it day-to-day, sorry there isn't better news.

Bug description:
  When listening to audio (pandora internet radio, youtube, etc.), I get
  a repeated popping/crackling sound. When I look at the sound settings
  while this is happening, I see "Headphone Output" rapidly appearing
  and then disappearing in the "Play Sound Through" section. The
  appearance and disappearance of "Headphone Output" coincides with the
  popping and crackling of the sound.

  I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my Nvidia
  card has a built-in HDMI card that might be interfering with my
  onboard sound:

  $ cat /proc/asound/cards
   0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf722 irq 54
   1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf708 irq 55
  cat /proc/asound/modules
   0 snd_hda_intel
   1 snd_hda_intel

  Obviously blacklisting "snd_hda_intel" in
  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf won't work, because it then disables
  all sound (both onboard and nvidia are listed as snd_hda_intel).

2019-05-23 Thread Hui Wang
@Ji-min,

After #12, please upload an alsa-info.txt, let me check if "model
=liefbook-extmic" is applied or not. If it really applied but it did not
work on this machine, I will ask for help from realtek.

thx.

2019-05-23 Thread Ji-min Hong
@vanvugt

Thank you for help.
I modified my /etc/default/grub file like this.

#GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="snd_hda_intel.model=lifebook-extmic"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

And "sudo update-grub" and rebooted.
But no change occurred.

I've found is to do this in a terminal:

pulseaudio -k && sleep 5 ; pulseaudio -D

Sometimes this works for hours, and sometimes it works for minutes,
after killing/restarting the PulseAudio daemon, as above.

Title:
  Popping/Crackling sound when playing audio in Ubuntu 14.04

Status in nvidia-hdmi-pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When listening to audio (pandora internet radio, youtube, etc.), I get
  a repeated popping/crackling sound. When I look at the sound settings
  while this is happening, I see "Headphone Output" rapidly appearing
  and then disappearing in the "Play Sound Through" section. The
  appearance and disappearance of "Headphone Output" coincides with the
  popping and crackling of the sound.

  I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my Nvidia
  card has a built-in HDMI card that might be interfering with my
  onboard sound:

  $ cat /proc/asound/cards
   0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf722 irq 54
   1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf708 irq 55
  cat /proc/asound/modules
   0 snd_hda_intel
   1 snd_hda_intel

  Obviously blacklisting "snd_hda_intel" in
  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf won't work, because it then disables
  all sound (both onboard and nvidia are listed as snd_hda_intel).
