Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The relevant dpkg terminal log says: sync: error syncing '/boot/initrd.img-5.15.0-101-generic': Input/output error This indicates that there is a problem with your hard disk. You can retry the update by running: sudo apt-get install -f I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to New. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2051672] Re: [FFe] Merge iproute2 with the latest Debian version: 6.8.0-1 from testing/unstable (main)
** Description changed: iproute2 upstream produces releases coinciding with upstream kernel releases to support the latest kernel features. Noble's iproute2 is still back at v6.1 even though it will use the v6.8 kernel. This means we provide no userspace interface for newer features - some of which are noted by a networking hardware partner in bug 2060969. Ubuntu's iproute2 has diverged from Debian's to add support for Ubuntu FAN. Noble has dropped kernel support for Ubuntu FAN, so those are no longer needed, and we could now just do a merge. We could also port the FAN patches forward if we can identify a need (see the original description of this bug to a link to such a port), but I have not done any testing with that. Add your printer (I used the ipps:// protocol to manage the printer) 4. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2051672] Re: [FFe] Merge iproute2 with the latest Debian version: 6.8.0-1 from testing/unstable (main)
Thanks Matthieu. I spoke to the kernel team and I think they will handle the update. I'm just trying to help unblock them by getting this reviewed/agreed by our release team ahead of time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to iproute2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051672 Title: [FFe] Merge iproute2 with the latest Debian version: 6.8.0-1 from testing/unstable (main) Status in iproute2 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: A few versions have been released and Ubuntu Noble still has the 6.1 version (6.1.0-1ubuntu2) from one year ago. Could it be possible to import the latest version from Debian unstable fixing a bunch of issues and supporting features from more recent kernels? Please note that Ubuntu Noble 24.04 will probably be shipped with the v6.8 kernel [1]. IPRoute v6.1 supports features added up to the v6.1 kernel, so missing the ones added to earlier versions. Switching to the v6.7 now should ease the upgrade to the v6.8 later. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/2.4.7-1.2ubuntu6 is in noble- proposed claiming to fix this bug. Comment #6 above says there is a missing patch still. The title of the crash (from the bug-report window) is "cupsd crashed with SIGSEGV in ???()" I'm running the noble-desktop-amd64.iso from 2024-03-25 after applying some updates from the noble and noble-proposed pockets. Reproduction steps: 1. Open Firefox and manage CUPS on http://localhost:631 2. Go to Administration -> Printers -> Add Printer and choose your printer 3. Add your printer (I used the ipps:// protocol to manage the printer) 4. After clicking the "Add printer" button, immediately close your Firefox tab 5. cupsd will crash and Ubuntu will display a bug-report popup Versions: Firefox - 124.0.1-1 r4033 CUPS - 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 Printer: Lexmark MS415dn (supported) I am unable to reproduce this bug on versions prior to 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu4 (Tried with 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu1 and 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu2). [Touch-packages] [Bug 2061173] [NEW] Feature request : send a notification when print job and USB printer not connected
Public bug reported: Hello :), Thanks for your hard work. I have a printer Canon G7050. And I configured the drivers to use it on USB only. From time to time, I launch a print job, start the printer and forget to plug the USB cable in my laptop. Versions 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu4 and 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu5 only backported commits from the 2.4.x upstream git branch, so I also opened an issue on GitHub: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/934 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/2060692/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2060358] Re: [FFe] Please add German (Noted) layout

'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flacon/ppa' adds the flacon repo as '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/flacon-ubuntu-ppa-mantic.sources' 2. apt can install and update from the new repo, as expected. you can also remove the repo, as expected, by running 'sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:flacon/ppa' 3. However, 'add-apt-repository --list' does not list the repo as it should. GUI package managers such as Muon and Synaptic also do not see the new repo. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2060730] Re: totem cannot install codecs via packagekit
Sorry, I should give a bit more context on this issue to clarify things. The test for this issue comes from the ISO tests for the Ubuntu Desktop for Raspberry Pi images. The test intends to check whether a fresh install can play a video "out of the box". The video used in the test is https://archive.org/download/BigBuckBunny_124/Content/big_buck_bunny_720p_surround.mp4 which is downloaded and opened normally. The video deliberately uses a codec that isn't seeded and installed by default (but is a commonly used format) in the expectation that totem will guide the user through installing the necessary bits (which it used to back in groovy, but doesn't since -- incidentally the reason this wasn't noticed in jammy is because it failed to even open the video at that point, but that's now been fixed). Seeding gstreamer1.0-packagekit is probably fine (the whole of gstreamer's in main). Seeding gnome-software is likely not (given we're using snap-store for software delivery currently). Is app-center intended to fill that gap in future? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to packagekit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060730 Title: totem cannot install codecs via packagekit Status in App Center: Triaged Status in packagekit package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in totem package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: While attempting to play a video on Ubuntu noble desktop for raspberry pi, totem attempts to locate a package for the H.264 codec but cannot find a service providing org.freedesktop.PackageKit. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2061128] [NEW] `add-apt-repository --pocket` doesn't work on Noble (Deb822?)
Public bug reported: It seems like `add-apt-repository` doesn't know how to enable a new pocket when Ubuntu's sources are defined in Deb822 (.sources) source file. Step to reproduce: 1. Create a Noble chroot with e.g. Docker. Verify that in such chroot, Deb822 is used for Ubuntu's source (`ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources`). 2. Run `add-apt-repository --pocket proposed`. Many upstream software, Ansible scripts etc. assume that the service is "sshd.service". In Debian/Ubuntu the primary unit is "ssh.service", but it has an `[Install] Alias=sshd.service`. That works in Debian because there sshd.service *actually* gets enabled by default, and ssh.socket isn't. But Ubuntu moved to socket activation (which is good!), so that ssh.socket is running by default. But that means that ssh.service never gets "systemctl enable"d, and hence the alias never gets set up: # systemctl status sshd.service Unit sshd.service could not be found. So if ssh.service is already running, it never gets restarted by "ipa- client-install". It would be really good to make that alias work by default -- if nothing else, just create the symlink manually in the postinst? freeipa-client 4.10.2-2ubuntu3 openssh-server 1:9.6p1-3ubuntu12 Note: we have tested this functionality in Cockpit on Ubuntu for a long time already. But until very recently we had a workaround to force the creation of that alias: https://github.com/cockpit-project/bots/commit/3bf1b20f3fa5fe202b9710b3fe78d2133ba03f5d We dropped it because it broke image builds due to some bugs in openssh's postinst, but it was a bad one anyway: actual users don't have that hack, and it hides bugs like this. OK, I was also missing gstreamer1.0-packagekit. Summary is: For reproducing that exact error, have neither gstreamer1.0-libav nor gstreamer-1.0-plugins-bad nor gstreamer-1.0-packagekit. Maybe I have another package that satisfies that, I'll investigate further. ---> % systemctl status packagekit.service ○ packagekit.service - PackageKit Daemon Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/packagekit.service; static) Active: inactive (dead) abr 12 10:32:34 canonical systemd[1]: Starting packagekit.service - PackageKit Daemon... abr 12 10:32:34 canonical PackageKit[162838]: daemon start abr 12 10:32:35 canonical systemd[1]: Started packagekit.service - PackageKit Daemon. abr 12 10:37:40 canonical PackageKit[162838]: daemon quit abr 12 10:37:40 canonical systemd[1]: packagekit.service: Deactivated successfully. abr 12 10:42:35 canonical systemd[1]: Starting packagekit.service - PackageKit Daemon... abr 12 10:42:35 canonical PackageKit[182154]: daemon start abr 12 10:42:35 canonical systemd[1]: Started packagekit.service - PackageKit Daemon. abr 12 10:48:36 canonical PackageKit[182154]: daemon quit abr 12 10:48:36 canonical systemd[1]: packagekit.service: Deactivated successfully. % dpkg -l | grep gstream ii gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GObject introspection data for the GStreamer library ii gstreamer1.0-alsa:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer plugin for ALSA ii gstreamer1.0-clutter-3.0:amd64 3.0.27-4build1 amd64Clutter PLugin for GStreamer 1.0 ii gstreamer1.0-gl:amd641.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer plugins for GL ii gstreamer1.0-gtk3:amd64 1.24.1-2ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer plugin for GTK+3 ii gstreamer1.0-libav:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64ffmpeg plugin for GStreamer ri gstreamer1.0-nice:amd64 0.1.21-2build3 amd64ICE library (GStreamer plugin) ii gstreamer1.0-pipewire:amd64 1.0.4-2ubuntu4 amd64GStreamer 1.0 plugin for the PipeWire multimedia server ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-base:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer plugins from the "base" set ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-base-apps 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer helper programs from the "base" set ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:amd64 1.22.9-1ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer plugins from the "good" set ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly:amd64 1.22.10-1 amd64GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set ii gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio:amd641.22.9-1ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio (transitional package) ii gstreamer1.0-qt5:amd64 1.22.9-1ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer plugin for Qt5 ii gstreamer1.0-tools 1.24.1-1build1 amd64Tools for use with GStreamer ii gstreamer1.0-x:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer plugins for X11 and Pango ii libgstreamer-gl1.0-0:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer GL libraries ii libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-0:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer libraries from the "base" set ii libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-dev 1.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer development files for libraries from the "base" set ii libgstreamer-plugins-good1.0-0:amd64 1.22.9-1ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer development files for libraries from the "good" set ii libgstreamer-plugins-good1.0-dev 1.22.9-1ubuntu1 amd64GStreamer development files for libraries from the "good" set ii libgstreamer1.0-0:amd64 1.24.1-1build1 amd64Core GStreamer libraries and elements ii libgstreamer1.0-dev:amd641.24.1-1build1 amd64GStreamer core development files ii libgtk-4-media-gstreamer 4.14.1+ds-0ubuntu2 amd64GStreamer media backend for the GTK graphical user interface library <--- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to packagekit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060730 Title: totem cannot install codecs

Obviously this package should *never* be installed on a desktop or even on most VMs, but only within WSL instances. However... wslu provides the virtual package www-browser, as one of its features is to open links in Windows 10 using the default browser set there. This means that if a package depends or recommends www-browser, it may attempt to pull in one of several packages, wslu included. In the past, this hasn't been a problem because Firefox was present on all flavor images, and Firefox provides www-browser as well. However, now that Firefox is a Snap, it is possible for Firefox to be installed without the firefox transitional apt package being installed. (This is the case in a default installation of Kubuntu Noble Beta.) As it turns out, Kubuntu Noble Beta ships with *no* packages that provide www- browser, meaning that any package that depends on it will have to install a new browser. Due to some stroke of misfortune, apt is picking wslu out of all packages as the package for this use case. Installing gimp-help-en will also install www-browser, which results in wslu becoming installed. wslu causes quite a few problems when installed on a desktop system - among them, the syslog is spammed with errors due to the system not in fact being a WSL VM, audio breaks in weird ways, and application launchers sometimes fail. Why this happens is unclear, but the issues appear to resolve once wslu is removed from the system. It is therefore probably a good idea to avoid wslu becoming installed on accident in this way. Probably the best way to resolve this is to ensure that some package that provides www-browser is available on every Ubuntu image. This could be done via seeding or by adding a package to ubuntu-minimal. Alternatively, wslu could be set to no longer provide www-browser, though it's unclear if that would break its functionality.
