[Touch-packages] [Bug 1375979] Re: 14.10: Gtk sometimes doesn't pickup translations in the about dialog
OTOH they should be included in the new translation template, at least, but for some reason they are not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1375979 Title: 14.10: Gtk sometimes doesn't pickup translations in the about dialog Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: In 14.10: Gtk sometimes doesn't pickup translations in the general about dialog. Even though all strings for the general about dialog are translated in the gtk-packages, the general about dialog for certain programs still only shows the English language. See attached screenshots in zip. Tested in Swedish and Spanish translations, which both have the gtk-packages translated. So it seems to be a general error, and not a language-specific one. To reproduce: 1) Observe in launchpad, or any other way you like, that the gtk-packages are translated, for example, in Swedish and Spanish. 2) Install the languages in the language support in latest 14.10 3) Change to another language, and look in the about dialogs in, for example, Rhytmbox and Disks - they aren't translated altough they should be. In, for example, Gparted, they are Ok. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1377809] [NEW] Wizard sometimes crashes after entering wireless passphrase

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1363946] Re: unity8-dash crashed with SIGABRT in qt_message_fatal() under incorrect locale
I expect the exception comes out of the bowels of the glib ini parser. There is probably little that the scopes API can do, other than to maybe throw a separate exception for the parsing failure. But the shell should not try and initialize the run time without catching the exception and handling it a bit more gracefully. ** Also affects: mir Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to content-hub in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1371170 Title: information disclosure: clipboard contents can be obtained without user knowledge Status in Mir: New Status in “apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “content-hub” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “mir” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Currently, the clipboard is implemented such that all apps can access the contents at any time. The clipboard contents should only be given to apps based on user driven input (eg, a paste operation). Attack scenario: 1. user launches malicious app 'baz' that polls the clipboard for contents 2. user launches legitimate app 'foo', at which point 'baz' is backgrounded 3. user selects some text and puts it into the clipboard 4. user opens legitimate app 'bar' and pastes text 5. user foregrounds 'baz' which now has access to the clipboard contents In the above, users can understand that 'foo' and 'bar' have access to the text put in the clipboard. However, it is unexpected that 'baz' also has access since the user didn't paste the text into it. As it is currently implemented, there is no clipboard timeout, so the contents will persist through the session (unless changed by another copy operation). Application lifecycle will help a little, but not fully since whenever an app is foregrounded, it can the contents of the keyboard. In the short term, we should require that only a foregrounded app whould be able to get clipboard contents. Push helpers should have an explicit deny to the (upcoming) DBus clipboard access. Background apps should not be allowed to push content into the clipboard (application lifecycle deals with this, but we need this for the future). Ideally this would be handled via wholly user-driven interactions. While this could be achieved via keyboard driven interactions, it is difficult with toolkit driven interactions (ie, 'Paste' from a menu is necessarily a pull operation). One idea is not to block access but instead make users aware of the clipboard access (eg, an overlay that says Pasted from clipboard and then fades out)-- this should be as unobtrusive as possible. Further details in Debian e-mail: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-kde- talk/2014-March/001889.html For Ubuntu, transitional packages should be put in place for smooth distribution upgrades, since we're shipping with the old names in previous Ubuntus. An example of that is at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/kubuntu-packaging/qtsystems-opensource-src/revision/31 - in other words: - Make the old package a transitional oldlibs package that depends on the new package - Add Breaks/Replaces to the new package for the old non-transitional packages (be careful about the version number specification) - Keep Multi-Arch: same and Architecture: any for the transitional package - Write QML module instead of QML plugin - Rename also the *.install files --- One more example on naming: For example, the test (qtdeclarative5-test-plugin) in the old qtdeclarative5-style package naming became qttest (qml-module- qttest) in the new naming since the path is actually under /usr/lib/*/qt5/qml/QtTest/ qml-module-qtquick-xmllistmodel has path /usr/lib/*/qt5/qml/QtQuick/XmlListModel, as an example if you have more than one subdir. /usr/lib/*/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Connectivity/ would be qml-module-ubuntu-connectivity. [Regression Potential] The bug affects a function that impots a shared buffer to the 3D driver. The function is completely broken by the bug. Even if the patch should introduce another type of breakage, the problem couldn't be much worse than it already is, and should be confined to the specific function in question. [Other info] Due to different stack ordering of automatic variables, the bug may or may not be visible depending on the C compiler and the level of optimization used. For example, if -O0 -g is used the bug is not visible on 12.04.5. I have not encountered any symptoms of the bug yet on 14.04. [ Original bug report ] Ubuntu 12.04.5 shows a black screen after login with 3D enabled on VMware. This is due to a bug in the svga gallium driver's winsys. It's recently fixed in mesa master commit 2d6206140a, winsys/svga: Fix incorrect type usage in IOCTL v2, with a request to backport to mesa stable, but I'm not sure whether anyone's still maintaining the 10.1 branch. Due to the severity of the symptoms it would be greatly appreciated if this fix could be incorporated in the libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-trusty package as soon as possible. Unfortunately it's affecting the package on the installation iso. Is there anything that can be done about that? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1377854] [NEW] idle phone; polling with 85-195 ms timeouts on poll, possible unneccessary wakeups
Public bug reported: While trying to figure out what's keeping the phone busy when idle (trying to save power), I noticed that unity8 is performing a lot of frequent poll() system calls with timeouts of 85-195 ms and it times out on these the majority of times.Wakeups keep a phone busy, so are these timeout polls() necessary? On mako, with a idle phone in the period between inactivity before the screen blanks I observe: root@ubuntu-phablet:~# strace -p $(pidof unity8) -e poll Process 4195 attached poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 98) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 199) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 196) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 195) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 195) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 94) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 89) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 195) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 196) = 0 (Timeout) poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=40, events=POLLIN}, {fd=41, events=POLLIN}, {fd=46, events=POLLIN}, {fd=61, events=POLLIN}, {fd=71, events=POLLIN}, {fd=72, events=POLLIN}], 7, 188) = 0 (Timeout) So one can see the poll() in these calls is ~90-195 ms, causing ~5-6 wakeups a second which are poll timeouts. Since no other system calls are being called, it looks like an inner loop re-polls again for another timeout to occur again. Perhaps the timeout is too low? Avoiding excessive wakeups does save power. In this case, it's not much, but this is the largest cause of wakeups now on an idle phone. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: New ** Changed in: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377854 Title: idle phone; polling with 85-195 ms timeouts on poll, possible unneccessary wakeups Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: While trying to figure out what's keeping the phone busy when idle (trying to save power), I noticed that unity8 is performing a lot of frequent poll() system calls with timeouts of 85-195 ms and it times out on these the majority of times.Wakeups keep a phone busy, so are these timeout polls() necessary? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1368343] Re: [wizard] on the security page, there's a long delay until the keyboard appears
The maliit-server is being explicitly stopped and restarted by the welcome wizard when the language is changed (along with the indicators) to ensure that they start with the correct environment variables (see: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~system-settings-touch/ubuntu-system- settings/trunk/view/head:/wizard/ubuntu-system-settings-wizard-set- lang.conf ). The delay in keyboard start-up is caused by QML compilation of the keyboard layouts, so this should be improved when the QML caching lands. The only other thing I can think of that we could potentially do to improve this would be to add some signal that the wizard could send to the keyboard for it to change its current locale without being restarted, this would allow the keyboard to be started slightly sooner (on the language page) and then not restarted, I'm not sure how necessary this will be after the caching has landed though? ** Changed in: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) Assignee: Michael Terry (mterry) = (unassigned) ** Changed in: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-keyboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368343 Title: [wizard] on the security page, there's a long delay until the keyboard appears Status in Ubuntu Keyboard: Confirmed Status in “ubuntu-keyboard” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “ubuntu-system-settings” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On the security page of the wizard, if you select passphrase and click on the text field, the on-screen keyboard can take up to 5 seconds to appear. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1346355] Re: 14.04 power-cog does not turn red when restart is needed
You correctly allude to the fact that when a package update requires restart, you need to do two things: (A) install the update and (B) restart. As long as you haven't done both, you're just as badly off (for a security update, you're just as insecure) as if you've done neither. Until 2009 we used panel icons for both (A) and (B). Having noticed that that didn't work, we switched to using a dialog for (A), but still used an indicator icon for (B). Then having realized our inconsistency, we switched to a dialog for (B) too (the same dialog, if possible). The Unity design principle you refer to does not exist. And even if it did, usability testing trumps principles. Sorry. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346355 Title: 14.04 power-cog does not turn red when restart is needed Status in The Session Menu: Invalid Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Bug = a popup-dialog asking the user to reboot the system after an update should not repeat (popup again) at a later time if the user chooses not to reboot. Instead, the power-cog should turn the color red and no further popup-dialogs should present at any time. In ubuntu 12.04 the power-cog turned red when a reboot/restart was needed. This was a helpful feature because it informed users that they needed to restart the computer. But this helpful indicator is gone in 14.04 and it has resulted in me never remembering to restart my computer because there is no helpful feedback from ubuntu that a restart is needed. In 14.04, I will perform an update and a popup tells me a Restart is needed but I usually select to restart-later because I am in the middle of working. By the the time I am done working I have forgotten that a restart is needed. Later when I am working again a popup occurs informing me that a restart is needed (but again I am in the middle of working so I don't restart). Bottom line: when the power-cog turned red, it reminded me that I needed to restart the computer. When I finished my work I look up and see the red power-cog and Oh yeah, I need to restart. Now is a good time. In 14.04 this doesn't happen. Instead I'm perpetually bugged by a popup (which is useless because it's never a good time to restart when it pops up). The red power-cog was a much BETTER design choice. The removal of the power-cog turning red has negatively affected the management of ubuntu updates and it should be fixed so that it behaves like 12.04. Once the icons have been fetched by the QML engine, they will be cached in memory during the lifetime of the application, but if the application is killed and restarted, the icons will be fetched from the network again, potentially incurring a cost on the data connection. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1368492] Re: crash opening image file
A side effect of this fix is that when you tap on a picture in the gallery app to bring it full screen, pinch-to-zoom no longer works and there is other weirdness (sometimes the image goes fully black). (As an aside, why is gallery even using the thumbnailer for this? You need the entire image for proper zooming so why not just open it directly?) You are correct. Ineed the gallery-app and camera-app are both using the thumbnail when opening the picture instead of using the picture directly. This is being tracked in this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net /gallery-app/+bug/1376767 and an MR already been submitted for camera- app. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit Assignee: (unassigned) = Zoltan Balogh (bzoltan) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to thumbnailer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368492 Title: crash opening image file Status in Ubuntu UI Toolkit: Confirmed Status in “thumbnailer” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: krillin image 25 libthumbailer version 1.2+14.10.20140814-0ubuntu1 - take a picture with the camera - open the gallery app - click on the thumbnail of the photo just taken - boom, crash happens Here is the stack trace.
