When waking from sleep/suspend I get the unlock screen but after entering my password the main display does not appear; it remains blanked. Sometimes re-suspending and re-waking the machine resolves the problem, but not always. Alternatively, the main screen does appear ut the mouse pointer is missing. I can tell where it ought to be by the highlighting of menu items. In this case re-sleep/re-waken has always resolved the problem. Sometimes I can get to a console seesion with ctl-alt-f1. In this case killing xfce4-session clears the problem, but after doing this a few times skype will not restart. WORKAROUND: I deleted lightlocker and replaced it with xscreensaver. --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.13 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom] CompositorRunning: None DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.3.10, 3.16.0-48-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.3.10, 3.16.0-49-generic, x86_64: installed GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1518526] Re: malware steals resources and is entirely useless
Please be considerate when filing bugs, you are not going to win yourself any bonus points by harassing the community developers that look after most of the universe. I could just as well call this one "spam steals resources and is entirely useless" and be done... Tracker is not malware, it is a core part of the GNOME Desktop experience, gnome-shell would completely break if tracker was removed. And believe it or not it is actually useful. Also its not even installed on your system, and apparently you are using KDE, so perhaps you installed it at some point, but its not used in KDE, Unity or any other desktops and only GNOME. Finally assuming you wanted to use GNOME, you still have full control over the indexing, via tracker-preferences. ** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to tracker in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1518526 Title: malware steals resources and is entirely useless Status in tracker package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: cannot remove this piece of malware. It's simply not practical to have to wait 20+ minutes each time I have to boot my PC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to upstart in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1504688 Title: fsck runs on every boot (clean install, single ext4 filesystem) Status in upstart package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: fsck runs early on *every* boot (and always says "/dev/sda1: clean ...") The system was always shut down using the regular Unity mechanism (Gear->Shut Down...) Strangely, the "Last checked" time shown by "sudo dumpe2fs /dev/sda1" shows the date of installation and never changes. This system is a brand new, clean install from the 15.10 beta2 iso, with subsequent updates. I took all the installer defaults, which created a single ext4 file system. Please see attached: bootscreen.png - screen shot of fsck output at start of bootup (from VM window) dumpe2fs_out.txt - output from "sudo dumpe2fs /dev/sda1" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: upstart 1.13.2-0ubuntu16 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-14.16-generic 4.2.2 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-14-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Oct 9 15:10:05 2015 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-10-07 (2 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150924) ProcKernelCmdline: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-14-generic root=UUID=5944d29d-f058-4836-a160-4da2d77554e3 ro quiet splash SourcePackage: upstart UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UpstartBugCategory: System UpstartRunningSessionVersion: upstart 1.13.2 UpstartRunningSystemJobs: Error: command ['initctl', '--system', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: initctl: Name "com.ubuntu.Upstart" does not exist UpstartRunningSystemVersion: Error: command ['initctl', '--system', 'version'] failed with exit code 1: initctl: Name "com.ubuntu.Upstart" does not exist To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1504688/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Just starting the client is no problem, and it plays songs OK, but for a while whenever I clicked one of my playlists it would immediately crash. I stopped using the client for a while, but last week started using again and it was working for these simple cases. Today I started the client, picked a playlist, and grabbed the scrollbar and dragged it all the way to the top; as I was dragging my desktop crashed. I had Chrome, Terminal & Eclipse open on my Ubuntu PC and was focused on using my laptop via Synergy. In my Synergy setup the Ubuntu PC is the server and the laptop is the client. As in the two bugs I mentioned, the Ubuntu machine seemed to reset back to the login screen. Unlike the last time nothing complained about out of date packages this time. I had not run the upgrade when this bug happened. I have now updated however. Yesterday there was a power cut to this building. I am starting to worry about my hardware integrity. The previous software update I did was at 2015-07-22 08:15:01, some 29 hours before the first time I saw an issue and now I have hit the login screen twice in about 2 hours. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1497959] Re: package resolvconf (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 128
[Expired for resolvconf (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to resolvconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497959 Title: package resolvconf (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 128 Status in resolvconf package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I use dnsmasq as a local DNS on my ethernet network, while I have a shared wifi connection on the same PC. I had to solve some conflicts with NetworkManager (by commenting the line dns=dnsmasq in NetworkManager's configuration). It worked, but dnsmasq didn't see when the computer's DNS configuration was updated (namely, when the wifi connection was turned on or off). After some Internet search, I found a forum, explaining that there was a conflict between NetworkManager and resolvconf packages, with the same symptoms as my problem (the resolv.conf file was saying "configured by resolvconf", and not "configured by NetworkManager", and was not updated with wifi DNS). This forum explained that resolvconf could be uninstalled, as NetworkManager was doing the job. So I uninstalled resolvconf, which work perfectly: NetworkManager now updates resolv.conf file, and dnsmasq takes it into account. But since I did it, I have this error on each start-up. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1512209] Re: update-manager crashed with SyntaxError in find_cookie(): invalid or missing encoding declaration for '/usr/bin/sys'
This is a combination of two problems. One is that starting update- manager results in these warnings: /usr/bin/update-manager:28: PyGIWarning: Gtk was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('Gtk', '3.0') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded. from gi.repository import Gtk /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py:26: PyGIWarning: GdkX11 was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('Unity', '7.0') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded. from gi.repository import Dbusmenu, Unity The other is that when openafs-client is installed, the presence of /usr/bin/sys causes Python to crash while displaying these warnings (see linked bugs). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pygobject in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512209 Title: update-manager crashed with SyntaxError in find_cookie(): invalid or missing encoding declaration for '/usr/bin/sys' Status in pygobject: Fix Released Status in Python: Won't Fix Status in pygobject package in Ubuntu: New Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: update-manager crashed with SyntaxError in find_cookie(): invalid or missing encoding declaration for '/usr/bin/sys' ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: update-manager 1:15.10.3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-16.19-generic 4.2.3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: openafs ApportVersion: 2.19.2-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME-Classic:GNOME Date: Sun Nov 1 22:34:22 2015 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/update-manager GsettingsChanges: b'com.ubuntu.update-manager' b'show-details' b'true' b'com.ubuntu.update-manager' b'window-height' b'813' b'com.ubuntu.update-manager' b'first-run' b'false' b'com.ubuntu.update-manager' b'window-width' b'500' b'com.ubuntu.update-manager' b'launch-time' b'1445601355' InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-06-02 (152 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64 (20150422) InterpreterPath: /usr/bin/python3.5 PackageArchitecture: all ProcCmdline: /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/update-manager --no-update --no-focus-on-map PythonArgs: ['/usr/bin/update-manager', '--no-update', '--no-focus-on-map'] SourcePackage: update-manager Title: update-manager crashed with SyntaxError in find_cookie(): invalid or missing encoding declaration for '/usr/bin/sys' UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2015-10-28 (4 days ago) UserGroups: adm bumblebee cdrom dip libvirtd lpadmin plugdev sambashare sbuild sudo wireshark To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pygobject/+bug/1512209/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1453538] Re: Invisible mouse pointer

** Branch linked: lp:~brunonova/ubuntu/trusty/ibus/lp1240198_2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ibus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198 Title: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop Status in ibus package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ibus source package in Trusty: Triaged Bug description: [Impact] When first boot into Unity desktop, English keyboard layout is active while all other parts of the system language settings are set to another language (e.g. German). The bug is properly addressed in newer upstream releases in Vivid, but the changes is too intrusive and not suitable for being back ported in SRU. And changing the default to use system keyboard layout solves the problem. [Test Case] 1. Set the system language to something other than English, e.g. German. 2. Create a new user, log in to the Unity desktop of the new user. 3. Check the keyboard layout, it should be German instead of English. [Regression Potential] Since this changes the default value of the keyboard layout settings by using system defined as default, it avoids using ibus's built-in keyboard layout related functionality, so that this could be a regression for users rely on this certain behavior (e.g. use English keyboard while want to keep the system language settings to German), but such behavior is not expected for normal usage. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1518456] [NEW] avconv and ffmpeg keep crashing on segmentation fault because of pulseaudio
Public bug reported: Hi, in spite of the course of years, and that several people have reported this random error, it keeps happening both in avconv and ffmpeg, in DIFFERENT versions of Ubuntu, DIFFERENT versions of both avconv and ffmpeg, DIFFERENT computers (I'll give you my details at the end, though). I suggest that both avconv and ffmpeg should be MORE VERBOSE IN SITUATIONS LIKE THE NEXT ONE, and try to manage exceptions so we can all contribute to problems like the following: SEGMENTATION FAULT IN THIS COMMAND: avconv -f alsa -ar 22050 -i default some_output.mp3 Or the same: avconv -f alsa -ar 22050 -i default -ac 1 -acodec adpcm_swf consec_1.mp3 avconv -f alsa -ar 22050 -i default -ac 1 consec_1.mp3 avconv -f alsa -ar 22050 -i default consec_1.mp3 avconv -f alsa -i default consec_1.mp3 --- THE WAY TO STOP AND TEMPORARILY FIX the instantaneous "segmentation fault", was to do: pulseaudio --kill pulseaudio --start --- It can be hard for developers of both packages to reproduce this error, but it is STILL real, and it will NOT disappear "accidentally with the next version", as some comments have suggested in other similar reports of similar bugs, and even in the .crash file that mentions libraries that have nothing to do with the avconv or ffmpeg program. You will find in the next URL the output and command of the program avconv: http://investigacionyprogramacion.com/solicitudes/bugs_avconv_segmentation_fault//initial_messages.txt I show one command there, ALTHOUGH IT OCCURS WITH SEVERAL OTHER COMMANDS BESIDES THE ONE I SHOW IN THIS URL, AS SHOWN BELOW IN THE SECTION OF "REFERENCES", IN THIS POST. In the above URL the expected behavior was, instead of "segmentation fault", the following message that occurs normally: [alsa @ 0x23faea0] capture with some ALSA plugins, especially dsnoop, may hang. Segmentation fault (core dumped) [alsa @ 0x1bd6ea0] All info found--->THIS LINE SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED, instead of "segmentation fault" [alsa @ 0x1bd6ea0] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate Guessed Channel Layout for Input Stream #0.0 : stereo - The output of the very same command, when it worked, after restarting pulseaudio: http://investigacionyprogramacion.com/solicitudes/bugs_avconv_segmentation_fault//messages_when_successful.txt You will find in the next URL the core-dumped file, as found in /var/crash/ ; THERE you will fin a more complex command, involving also video grabbing, but in this case I was able to isolate the problem to only an audio problem. However, I insist on making avconv/ffmpeg more verbose and cautious for these exceptions, and a more helpful dumping for these cases. Pulseaudio needs revision also; grab in mind that skype sometimes "plays around" with the sound settings in the systems. Another thing you guys could do, if you are so kind, could be to internally compare "video and sound settings the last time avconv/ffmpeg worked, compared to now", maybe it might help, and of course, a far better logging of errors than depending on the things being recorded in /var/crash, such as this file: http://investigacionyprogramacion.com/solicitudes/bugs_avconv_segmentation_fault//_usr_bin_avconv.1000.crash -- FINAL NOTE: --- As I've mentioned, this bug is NOT a problem only of current Ubuntu version, nor avconv or ffmpeg only. It has been there FOR YEARS, and repetitively it occurs over and over, although in a random fashion. Despite it's hard-to-reproduce behavior, there are patterns: it happens MORE frequently when we have a long user-session in Ubuntu, and SOMETIMES when we restart, it disappears; other times it disappears when we close a RAM-demanding software such as the web-browsers (we all know that web-browsers have the problem of being very RAM consuming); other times it is reduced by reducing the framerate of the video being captured, or the audiorate being captured. In all these actions the pattern is: to demand less CPU and RAM, it MIGHT REDUCE (never eliminate for sure) the frequency of the problem. For your diagnose, you might consider if it is racing condition of the speed of writing in the hard disk, and also taking into account the possibility of controlling the memory used by libraries of both programs. I've seen this behavior in several versions of both FFMPEG and AVCONV since at least 2012 to 2015. It won't disappear magically, as suggested in some forums. Only if we all penetrate in the problem we will be able to help this awesome set of software to be more reliable. I suggest to escalate this issue to one of the most importance, no matter its difficulty to reproduce the problem. ---

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1069964] Re: Two processes attempt to mount blank optical discs
I had this problem (when inserting a blank dvd-r) on 15.10 Ubuntu 64 bit. I use Gnome-fallback-session and use Nemo file manager. I loaded up dconf-editor and searched for "mount". I deselected all of the automount features and the annoying message has gone away (for now at least). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069964 Title: Two processes attempt to mount blank optical discs Status in OEM Priority Project: New Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This behavior can be reproduced using either a live USB or an installed version of the effected flavors. Simply insert a blank optical disc in the drive. The behavior differs slightly in Ubuntu GNOME as the notification to either Open with CD/DVD Creator or Eject is displayed twice - that is after simply clicking on the X to close that notification it closes but a new duplicate notification appaers immediately. The GNOME Classic session is not effected at all. In all other effected flavors and/or desktop environments a notification appears stating "Unable to mount Blank disc. Location is already mounted". Effected flavors and DE's include Ubuntu w/Unity, gnome-session-flashback, and Ubuntu MATE. Versions effected include Trusty, Utopic, and Vivid. I assume that two separate processes are actually attempting to mount the blank optical media, rather than just the file manager attemting to do so, because both Nautilus and Caja are effected (based on some of the comments below possibly also Nemo). While purely cosmetic in nature I'd certainly be willing to try and troubleshoot this if someone more tech savvy would provide some debugging instructions. This is reported upstream in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708991 and fixed in gstreamer 1.3.1. The corresponding patch is supplied as an attachment here. Trusty Tahr is using 1.2.x and there is no new release on that branch. Trusty Tahr is still supported until 2019. It would be really nice if that can be fixed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1487528] Re: [notifications] + [messaging] SMS notifications should should show which SIM received message
Thanks for the wireframe. If I remember correctly we don't have support for displaying text on the top right of the notification bubble. Is this in the notifications spec? Also, we need wireframes for incoming messages in the indicator menu. I know this bug is about messages, but there is a similar use case we have to fix, which is voicemail in the indicator. As a temporary solution we are displaying something like "1 Voicemail - SIM 1", but would be good to have a final solution for this case as well. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. First test-case: Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical device is eth0 and remove all other connections. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. When I open /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and save it without any modification, eth0 is instantly added to my bridge. Strange! Second test-case: Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical device is eth0. Disable the "autoconnect" of the default wired network. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. Instead eth0 is brought up and full configured. After compiling and testing different upstream versions, i could track the problem down to bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch. A network-manager package without this specific patch, brings my bridge up at boot and adds eth0 to the bridge in both test-cases. I've checked the behaviour on my ubuntu 13.10 box with network-manager (0.9.8.0-0ubuntu22) and the trusty version network-manager (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1) . Till now i couldn't encounter any sideeffects of removing this patch with the bridge created by libvirt. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1518411] [NEW] "Maximum number of clients reached", new in Ubuntu 15.10
Public bug reported: In my newly upgraded (from 15.04) Ubuntu 15.10 system, after I've been logged in for a while I can no longer open new windows and instead get a "Maximum number of clients reached" error. This did not happen in 15.04. I ran "lsof" on the X server and did not see an excessive number of open file descriptors. I ran it again on a newly restarted X server and the number of open file descriptors looked about the same. I also ran "xlsclients" when the X server was reporting "Maximum number of clients reached" and the list of clients looked correct and reasonable (and there were less than 30 of them). I am happy to collect any additional logs or debugging information to help track this down. I don't know where to look further. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1518310] Re: [Dell L521X, ALC3260]No sound through headphones after boot
Thank you very much for your reply. I can't say that I really understand all that stuff ;) I tried to disable 0x1a first, but then the line out stopped working entirely. I have therefore enabled 0x1a and disabled 0x15, things are working so far. Please see screenshot for details. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2015-11-20 18-35-47.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1518310/+attachment/4522704/+files/Screenshot%20from%202015-11-20%2018-35-47.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1518310 Title: [Dell L521X, ALC3260]No sound through headphones after boot Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After Ubuntu boots, randomly (say with 25% probability) the Headphone alsamixer setting will be muted and set to 0 on my notebook. The notebook will not play any sounds on headphones, only through the notebook speakers when headphones are disconnected. I then have to manually run alsamixer, unmute the Headphone setting and max it out to 100. This started to happen after upgrade to Ubuntu 15.10 - Ubuntu 15.04 worked fine. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1517603] Re: "libmtp Error: Could not send object." when copying big files anywhere in the device of 40 mb or more.
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: mtp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mtp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517603 Title: "libmtp Error: Could not send object." when copying big files anywhere in the device of 40 mb or more. Status in mtp package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: ENVIRONMENT: Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit Since I updated ubuntu from 14.04 to 15.10 I started having problems with copping files bigger than 40 mb or copying several files whoso size summed are bigger than 40 mb as well. My device is a LGG3 D885p Android 5.0. I am a new Ubuntu user and I don’t know libmtp version, I couldn’t see the version by the command line "apt-cache policy pkgname”, or maybe I’m doing it wrong. But now, with the version 15.10, I updated the libmtp and I could see in the console that package version is more recent. This problem happens when I copy any file fro Ubuntu (by Nautilus) to a Android device. The problem also happens when copping file by file with over 4 mb. STEPS: 1) Connect the device to the USB port; 2) Select MTP option in your device; 3) Copy any file or folder with over 40 mb to the device; EXPECTED RESULT: The copy operation should succeed. CURRENT RESULT: An error message is presented on the desktop: "libmtp Error: Could not send object." This is particularly useful with trusted helpers where an application requests access to a file and the trusted helper does something with it. For example, on Ubuntu when an app wants to play a music file, it (eventually) goes through the media-hub service. The media-hub service should be able to query if the app's policy has access to the file.
