[Touch-packages] [Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-12-25 Thread dino99
My two cents,

you have some recent hardwares but use quite old kernel. Your issue is
expected, and the solution is to use recent release/kernel with recent hardware.
Either dist-upgrade (or better do a fresh install to avoid possible settings
conflict disturbing the system) to at least wily or xenial (which smoothly
works, even if its a development work still on going, blah blah ...); or test
trusty + kernel 4.3 if you are afraid by the previous proposal.

That version is no more supported; and no expecting backport as it only
concern 'security' problem.

It's required when doing Sound Troubleshooting:

Any ideas where to find it?

PS I'm getting no sound through speakers. I wanted to file a bug using apport
but it would not let me do so.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-12-25 Thread dino99
@Thomas

same issue found like yours:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/700167/no-sound-on-ubuntu-15-10
( still beleive in installing the latest packages/drivers to get support
(kernel/drm, ...) maybe try
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/testing & staging)

Some googling can help finding Skylake similar issue (example:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-12-25 Thread dino99
More comment:

Pulseaudio strictly now needs:
- 'hda' bios setting (not ac97)
- jacks correctly plugged as expected: aka, strict same colors

then check the sound config/settings (via pavucontrol/paprefs)

2015-12-25 Thread dino99
Glancing at DpkgTerminalLog.txt, you are doing weird things that will
kill your installation. Glad enough it does not let you do so, and push
that 'false' error to alert you.

Take time to learn how to update/upgrade by reading the howto/kiwi from the
community.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440608] Re: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels except the latest one

2015-12-25 Thread Jarno Suni
It is hard to know, if /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal is called
in conjunction with removing a kernel or installing a kernel. The kernel
in question, whose version is passed as a command line argument, has
"install" as desired action according to dpkg at the time of calling the
script anyway. It would be logical that the state had been updated by
that time, as the script is a post installation script.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440608] Re: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels except the latest one

2015-12-25 Thread Jarno Suni
I think apt-get autoremove may even delete the current kernel, if you
run /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal, boot to an older kernel
and then run apt-get autoremove. However, maybe that is not big issue,
since there is still another kernel that you can boot next time (if you
haven't removed it manually).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1527732] Re: Asus S400CA inverted microphone (Skype not usable)

2015-12-25 Thread J.J. Berkhout
** Description changed:

System: Asus S400CA with Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa, kernel 3.19.0-39-generic
  #44~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Dec 2 10:00:35 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
  GNU/Linux

Running Skype, sound input from microphone does not work. When (in
alsa-mixer OR in pavucontrol) one channel is reduced and the other is
maximized, sound input works although not at full volume.

  Alsa information:
  http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=4fd8506e1121c53b192c73150ba74fb24075314e

  Edit:
This is NOT a bug in the alsa-driver, but a problem with the settings of my
system. I changed the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf by adding the line:

  options snd-hda-intel model=auto

which repaired the microphone response in alsamixer and pavucontrol.
Skype still did not work, but after fiddling around with the settings under
"Recording" in pavucontrol I got it working. My excuses if I wasted anyone's
time. Please accept that I use this system for only the last week and have no
experience with Linux whatsoever.

What I expected to happen is on my HP Pavilion g6-2152se Notebook PC,
using a Logitech B110 USB mouse is when I single click with either
left or right button, nothing happens but a single click.

What happens instead is the mouse randomly double clicks. The mouse
works in other OSes (which ones specifically).

Title:
Various instabilities after resuming from standby

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
None of these problems are readily reproducible, I'm having a roughly
30:70 chance of a successful standby. Things that I have seen happen:

  1) Click on Whisker menu -> Logoff ("Abmelden") button ->
Logoff/Restart/Reboot/Standby dialog (no Hibernate option, I think
it's blacklisted for my machine) -> Click on "Shutdown" -> no
shutdown, I get the login screen.

  2) Trying to go to standby from the Logoff button in the login screen
after seeing (1) -> monitor switches off, then on, login screen again.

  3) After (2), close the lid, open it, standby procedure from login
  screen -> works. Sometimes.

  4) After (2), remove machine from docking station, standby procedure
from login screen -> works. Sometimes.

  5) Machine is in standby, I press the power button, I get some text
mode messages, monitor flashes and shows graphic content (mostly a
mouse cursor on some background, too fast to properly see), then the
screen goes dark. Ctrl-Alt-F1 works, Ctrl-Alt-F7 simply makes the
screen dark again (both the builtin laptop screen and one of the
  external, connected-through-docking-station screens).

  6) The effects from (5) can also happen right after cold booting the
  machine.

  7) I *think* on a few occasions, I tried to shutdown the machine and
  nothing happened at all.

  8) On some rarer occasions, nothing would happen after the shutdown
command, and trying to issue another shutdown resulted in a message
amounting to "can't do another action while the previous action is in
progress"; I remember pstree reported some hung process that was
connected to shutdown, and I couldn't kill it (not even kill -9). I
cannot reproduce this, and I didn't take notes so I can't be more
  specific.

I have no idea which of these effects are related to a common cause and which
are independent.
I have been unable to find out anything given that no individual phenomenon
is reproducible with any reliability.
I hope the attached debug info will help, but I fully expect this to require
much more diagnosis.

  Hardware:
  - Docking station PR02X
  - Two 2560x1440 Dell U2515H monitors, one on each video output of the docking
station
  - nVidia Quadro 2000M, using the proprietary driver (Nouveau cannot drive two
2560x1440 screens)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529256] [NEW] Keyboard issue: Certain keyboard buttons change to others

2015-12-25 Thread Anomime
Public bug reported:

Ok so.. i have a ASUS K450J Laptop and i have had Ubuntu through the last year
without any issues until now. I recently formatted my pc to fix my keyboard
issue but to no avail.
A few days ago my backspace button didn't delete and just added the character
p and p button was deleting and adding the letter p. Now my backspace is
deleting but not repeatedly just by the press of the button and the letter p is
acting like the backspace button and still adding the character p and it added
the Page Up Button recently and I don't know why. All with the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Only when i plug in my usb keyboard it works but my built-in keyboard on the
Laptop just doesn't work.

Trying convergence, I've noticed that :

When a bluetooth keyboard is paired, the keyboard is by default in
Qwerty (even if it's an Azerty keyboard and the settings of UT are on
  French Azerty keyboard layout)

We should have an option to set the Azerty / Qwerty option in bluetooth
settings.
Or a better solution could be that the bluetooth keyboard layout is set to
the default keyboard layout we have put in Language settings.

Does someone know a way to set correctly the layout of the bluetooth
keyboard ? (I've tried : 'loadkeys fr' in terminal but this didn't
work, I suspect that the default layout was already on fr but the
  bluetooth keyboard doesn't detect it)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

2015-12-25 Thread J.J. Berkhout
As regards comment #49: this
(http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49=177730) is what
happened and how I solve it. Nothing to do with an inverted microphone.

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

Wily(15.10) could not work with and don't need Adam's dkms package 1.0
  or 1.1

Wily(15.10) has already fixed the driver part, and the firmware part
  is in progress.

For now, you guys could use 15.10(purge the ath10k-dkms if you tried
installing it), and make a copy of
  https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
  firmware.git/plain/ath10k/QCA6174 into /lib/firmware/ath10k/

  15.10 will work in a week by a simple `apt upgrade`

Distros before 15.10(lower than 4.2 kernel) please keep using the
  dkms(which will be relocated soon)

Status in android package in Ubuntu:

Status in qtubuntu-camera package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
On the mako / Nexus 4, the camera has an LED to use for camera flash.
Our camera app supports the flash, and fires it while taking a picture
with flash enabled. However, the resulting image ends up severely
underexposed, to the point where almost the entire image is black.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Run the camera app.
  2. Take a picture with flash off.
  3. Turn the flash setting on and take a picture of the same scene again.
  4. Go to the gallery app to view the results.

Expected results: The picture with flash should appear brighter (or,
at least, appear how most with-flash pictures look).

Actual results: The picture with flash is almost completely black,
with only a few dim details in the brightest parts of the image.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1509326] Re: Various instabilities after resuming from standby

2015-12-25 Thread Joachim Durchholz
I already have nvidia-352 installed.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
Various instabilities after resuming from standby

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  3) After (2), close the lid, open it, standby procedure from login
  screen -> works. Sometimes.

Title:
  ALT-Left/Right changes VT from X

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Recently, pressing ALT-Left/Right has started switching VTs even when
X is active. This was not a problem with 15.04. I don't think I had
this issue when I initially upgraded to wily development, either, but
I think it was an update I installed in the past few days.

It does not seem to happen immediately after booting, and I am able to
use ALT-Left/Right without issue (in Terminator and PyCharm, for
example), but then at some point it will start switching VTs.

I'm filing this bug against xwayland, because it's the running X
server. It shouldn't be - I chose 'GNOME' rather than 'GNOME on
Wayland' from GDM - but that is what is running. Since I can't seem to
run without Wayland, I can't test any other way.

Another user noticed this only happens with multiple monitors. I use
multiple monitors as well, but haven't tested with only one monitor
since the bug is not consistently reproducible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440608] Re: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels except the latest one

2015-12-25 Thread Jarno Suni
The attached script leaves more kernels than one. It keeps some
automatically installed kernels, even if there are also newer manually
installed kernels such as upstream kernels installed.

Title:
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels
  except the latest one

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After installing a 3rd kernel currently 3.19.0-12-generic, the
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels file looks normal listing the
  3.19.0-11-generic and 3.19.0-12-generic with 3.19.0-10-generic listed
to be autoremoved. But once autoremove is completed the machine
requests to be rebooted and at that time the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
/01autoremove-kernels file lists the 3.19.0-12-generic and
3.19.0-10-generic kernels. So upon rebooting the 3.19.0-11-generic is
requested to be autoremoved leaving only one kernel the latest one
  3.19.0-12-generic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1509326] Re: Various instabilities after resuming from standby

2015-12-25 Thread Joachim Durchholz
I can't file reports for different issues because I can't even name a
single issue. All I'm seeing is sporadic but nonreproducible, somehow
related failures. Some of them may be unrelated, some of them might be
misconfiguration leftovers from previous installs or attempts at getting
the machine to work reliably, but I have no way of determining which is
which.

Trying nouveau now. It used to deliver insufficient performance to drive
both of my monitors though; maybe it got upgraded, but I'm not
confident.

Title:
Various instabilities after resuming from standby

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  3) After (2), close the lid, open it, standby procedure from login
  screen -> works. Sometimes.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2015-12-25 Thread tjk
I just discovered this issue in a newly upgraded version of Lubuntu
15.10. I tried two of the possible solutions in this thread. The "sudo
openvpn --config file.ovpn" doesn't work for me, it gives an error:
"Error: Object 'nm' is unknown"...This DNS leak is really annoying
because it makes my vpn connection useless!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440608] Re: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels except the latest one

2015-12-25 Thread Cavsfan
I run an alias to do my updating and it's this:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get autoclean
When the update happens and there is a kernel waiting to be dist-upgraded I
believe the
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremovekernels file has been manipulated to include
parts of the wrong kernel
Then when autoclean runs it deletes parts of that kernel rendering it useless.
Thus when a reboot happens, the wrong kernel is wanting to be deleted, again
triggering
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal and you end up with one kernel.
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal should not be triggered as many times
as it is. As I've mentioned a few
times after rebooting and purging kernels it causes you to have just one.

I took out the autoremove part and if I delete the oldest of the 3 kernels
before the first reboot, it gets it right.
But, when you reboot before purging the 3rd kernel it will keep on until you
have one.

Title:
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After installing a 3rd kernel currently 3.19.0-12-generic, the
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels file looks normal listing the
  3.19.0-11-generic and 3.19.0-12-generic with 3.19.0-10-generic listed
to be autoremoved. But once autoremove is completed the machine
requests to be rebooted and at that time the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
/01autoremove-kernels file lists the 3.19.0-12-generic and
3.19.0-10-generic kernels. So upon rebooting the 3.19.0-11-generic is
requested to be autoremoved leaving only one kernel the latest one
  3.19.0-12-generic.

Title:
IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled on Ubuntu Server by default

Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in procps package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 12.10 server images both ship with the
IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled (as defined in RFC 4941[0]). Not only
are they enabled, but these addresses are preferred over addresses
obtained using SLAAC. While is may be considered a reasonable default
on an image being used on a personal computer, it's not something that
is sane to have enabled by default in a server environment. Having
this extension enabled can wreak havoc if you are expecting a specific
IPv6 address when you know the MAC addresses of your systems
  beforehand.

The file that is responsible for causing this to be defaulted to
enabled is: "/etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf". This file appears to
be part of the procps package (as per the output of 'dpkg -S') and
  contains the following:

  # IPv6 Privacy Extensions (RFC 4941)
  # ---
  # IPv6 typically uses a device's MAC address when choosing an IPv6 address
  # to use in autoconfiguration. Privacy extensions allow using a randomly
  # generated IPv6 address, which increases privacy.
  #
  # Acceptable values:
  #0 - don’t use privacy extensions.
  #1 - generate privacy addresses
#2 - prefer privacy addresses and use them over the normal addresses.
  net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr = 2
  net.ipv6.conf.default.use_tempaddr = 2

In short, IPv6 privacy extensions should not be enabled by default
when deploying an Ubuntu server image. In a server environment you
should be able to reliably determine your IPv6 address based on the
  MAC address of the system.

Thank you for taking the time to look in to this as well as consider
changing the default behavior of Ubuntu server.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1509326] Re: Various instabilities after resuming from standby

2015-12-25 Thread Joachim Durchholz
Can you give me some instructions how to nail down the actual cause of these
problems?
The symptoms are so varied and instrutable, it almost looks as if some race
conditions deep down in the software stack leave stuff in inconsistent state.
Logging pertinent status information for each startup might be a good start.

The system is showing the login screen even though everything has been
configured to not show the login screen. Finding out the reason why would be a
good start, then I'd look for the reasons for the reason, until the root cause
is found.
(This might even be a hardware glitch, but without any pointers to a concrete
failure I can't turn in the machine for fixing. Also, if it's a hardware
problem, it would be worth it submitting a bug report to whatever software
subsystem should have logged it.)

Title:
Various instabilities after resuming from standby

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  3) After (2), close the lid, open it, standby procedure from login
  screen -> works. Sometimes.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1509326] Re: Various instabilities after resuming from standby

2015-12-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Joachim Durchholz, to advise, the only issue that this report is scoped
to is the resume from standby. For each issue different from this (ex.
resuming from hibernate, issues that occur after restarting or coming
back from a shutdown, etc.), you would want to file separate reports,
one per issue.

Despite this, if you uninstall the nvidia driver, is the resume from
standby issue still reproducible?

Title:
Indicator-Datetime always shows UTC time for any online calendar added
  to evolution (Unity7, Xenial)

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
My timezone is set to GMT+5:30 (Kolkata, India) from indicator
datetime settings. But when I add a online google calendar in
Evolution, events (which has start time and end time) are appearing as
UTC time. However in evolution, its all nice and evolution does
  respect my timezone.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Set google calendar timezone to match your timezone from google
  calendar settings (web).

  2. From web interface, add a event with time into that calendar. Then
  copy its private ical address.

  3. Open evolution. Add that calendar from new->calendar->on the web.

  4. reboot.

  What should happen?

If a event starts from 5 PM, indicator-datetime should reflect that.

  What is happening?

indicator-datetime shows every event starting at UTC time; i.e, in my
  case 5.30 hours behind!

  Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/gPisVnl.png

Note: It seems it only happens for online calendars. Locally created
  events are ok.
