[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571482] Re: text copy button unresponsive

2016-04-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1556764 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1556764

The expected behaviour is to hide the contextual actions after copying
the text, thus making it clearer that something actually happened. This
is a known issue tracked by bug #1556764.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1556764

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1566998] Re: Wrong time when using automatic setting

2016-04-17 Thread neclepsio
I'm sure the time is off and ntp update does not solve. I thought to
have solved with UTC=yes but I just checked again and I was wrong. Maybe
something with time zone (Rome) or DST? On the pc I also have Windows 7.

Display distorts when performing some actions

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
On occasions, like when trying to install Gimp via the Software
Centre, the display distorts so that it is not readable. Sometimes
moving the mouse around frantically puts the screen temporarily to a
state where it is again readable but then distorts again almost
immediately. Opening other apps, or going to a terminal screen, and
then back sometimes gets the display back to normal and I can get some
work done. Highly annoying and very unproductive so have had to move
other business machines back to 15.04 which did not display the
  problem.

Maybe not related but sometimes the terminal (in a window) loses the
mouse and seems the only way to recover is to restart the terminal.
Also mousing over the Launch (Unity) menu bar sometimes leaves traces
of the tooltips on the screen. Working in OpenOffice/LibreOffice -
sometimes small bits of text are slightly garbled. Scrolling to move
the affected text off the screen and then back on corrects the
  display.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571480] [NEW] location bar selection is cumbersome; no select all

2016-04-17 Thread Joe Liau
Public bug reported:

The default action when tapping the location bar is to select the entire url.
In order to append something to the url, one must tap a second time and drag
the cursor to the end.
Then when long pressing on the url, there is no "select all" option (attached
screenshot)

Something doesn't quite flow with these actions. As described above
there is really only one path to each outcome, and is quite cryptic and
cumbersome.

-I would propose the default tap action would be to put the cursor at the end
of the url.
-Double tapping would select all
-Add select all to the long press

** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Some drivers will call android's perform hook with:

the newly-requested format. (ie, mir_pixel_format_rgbx_ to
mir_pixel_format_rgba_ is accommodated, as no reallocation is
  needed).

However, we've encountered a device that will try to set the format to
  HAL_PIXEL_FORMAT_RGB_888 when mir has selected
HAL_PIXEL_FORMAT_RGBX_. Since we're going from a 32 bit format to
a 24 bit format, the stride information becomes incorrect.

2016-04-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah I don't think 500us is affordable. That's 0.5ms and we only have
1-2ms (1000-2000us) of headway according to comment #19. Before we miss
the frame deadline.

So yes, that 500us times-a-couple will hurt us, and would explain it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1545899] Re: PYLONG_BITS_IN_DIGIT is misconfigured on g++

2016-04-17 Thread INADA Naoki
@doko
Do you mean this is resolved in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ?

Ubuntu 12.04 is used widely.
And this bug may break user data silently.
I really hope this bug is fixed in 12.04.

  int main() {
  printf("digit bits = %d\n", PYLONG_BITS_IN_DIGIT);

Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM:

Bug description:
On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly
get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine.
When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile
and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the
TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries
from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such
that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries
are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are
no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the
remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of
network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers--
both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since
the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these
queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only
wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security
concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private
'10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to
be on the private wifi network with this ip address.

This could be fixed in (at least) four ways:
   1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all
which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is
guaranteed to not incur changes
   2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add
them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and
only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under
certain circumstances
   3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0.
This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This
will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names.
   4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers.
This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails

I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps
most correct). '1' seems also ok.

"exploit" demo is funny, though :)

Monitor DPI settings are ignored after upgrade to Xenial

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I recently upgraded my Kubuntu x86_64 system with a HiDPI monitor (24"
4K) from Wily to Xenial. Before I did this, applications using all
the toolkits (GTK2, GTK3, Qt4, and Qt5) properly obeyed the DPI value
automatically detected from the monitor, causing them to automatically
scale to a usable size. However, after upgrading to Xenial, GTK3
applications no longer have this behavior. Instead, they appear at
the normal 96DPI size, causing them to be nearly unreadable due to the
  small size of their widgets.

I am currently using GTK3 3.18.7-1ubuntu2, but the issue has been
occurring since I upgraded to Xenial months ago.

Same here - Gallery is ignoring the ".nomedia" file (which should hide
any content in the same directory as this file), whilst other
applications, Scopes and web apps do not...

Folders containing ".nomedia" should not have their content shown in
Gallery.

Bug description:

The app gallery did not started anymore in my BQ E4.5, it was just
sitting there and loading for hours without coming to an end. I
investigated
it with strace and lsof and saw the app was searching through all the
100.000 files (OSM tiles) on my SD card. While the SD card managment app
supports placing a file there with the name '.nomedia' so the SD Card
app ignores all files and dirs below:

  $ ls -la /media/phablet/4BDC-71D9/Maps
  total 840900
  drwxr-xr-x 3 phablet phablet 4096 Apr 7 09:25 .

  -rw-r--r-- 1 phablet phablet 0 Apr 4 14:58 .nomedia
  drwxr-xr-x 19 phablet phablet 4096 Apr 4 14:08 osm

  $ find /media/phablet/4BDC-71D9/Maps/osm | wc -l
  129236

it seems that the gallery-app does not honor this file '.nomedia'.

Any idea for a workaround in the gallery-app?

Zeitgeist is not really useful under Ubuntu GNOME, and in fact we

[Touch-packages] [Bug 840998] Re: LSB-based executable (printer driver) aborts with "No such file or directory"

2016-04-17 Thread Paul Cunnell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 837745 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/837745

I has the same problem, on ubuntu 16.04 beta 2, and after much searching
came across this report. I had installed lsb and the epson-inkjet-
printer-201112w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb from the Epson download site.
Looking in /lib, there was just ld-linux.so.2, a symlink to -> i386
-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so.

So mostly following the steps in comment #13, I created the following symlinks:
cd /lib
ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.3
ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.2
ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.1
ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.3
ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.2

...and as if by magic the printer kicked into life! Not sure these are
all necessary, but hey, a few extra symlinks never hurt ;-)

  I'm using an updated Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 (amd64).

I have an Epson SX420W printer/scanner. I tried both the free and the
proprietary drivers that Jockey displayed, and I tried to connect the
printer with both USB and network.

In every case, the drivers are installed correctly and the printer looks
ready, but each time I start a print job, I have the following notification :
"Printer EPSON - Epson SW420W series may not be connected".
The strange thing is that the scanner works fine with SimpleScan.

In Ubuntu 11.04, with cups 1.4.6, I use the same proprietary driver
that is proposed in Oneiric, and everything works fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1253693] Re: top status bar missing shutdown button, clock, sound icon and more on upgrade to 13.10

2016-04-17 Thread SoloTurn
recently it happened with 15.10 usb install with persistent storage that
the panel lost logout, restart. i booted then without casper-rw, i.e.
removing the persistent flag to compare where the buttons are available
(see here for boot options: http://shallowsky.com/blog/linux/install
/ubuntu-persistent-live-cd.html ) . then i used dconf dump / > dump.conf
both times and compared the two files. the difference is:

+[apps/indicator-session]
+suppress-logout-menuitem=true
+suppress-restart-menuitem=true
+suppress-shutdown-menuitem=true
+suppress-logout-restart-shutdown=true

i am still wondering what triggers ubuntu to make these settings without
me wanting it to do it.

This bug has been split from #1239710 as the branch for which changing
launcher placement to "all displays" does not work.

Every time I login, without fail, the top status bar is missing the
gear icon for shutdown, the date, the sound icon and some others. The
icons do show from the login window. So if I let the session time out
so that the screen locks, I the gear icon appears in the top status
bar and works. I have also added a new user to see if the issue has
something to do with my account. The new user also has an empty top
  status bar.

The issue happens for both dual monitor and single monitor
configurations. When the second monitor is connected, setting launcher
placement to "all displays" does not solve the problem. Neither does
  mirroring the displays.

Everything worked just fine with 13.04. The problem appeared
  immediately following upgrade to 13.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571363] [NEW] Installing with recommended packages does not query down anymore on already installed dependencies

2016-04-17 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 with apt 1.2.10ubuntu1 and on installing with
recommended packages for example by using the option "--install-
recommends" normally apt installs the recommended packages of the
specified package and the recommended packages of the dependencies at
any level. But at the latter I'm noticing if such a dependency was
already installed without installing its recommended packages apt will
not query anymore down to the recommended packages of this dependency.
This behavior does also break packages that provide only possibly too
minimal dependencies and relying more that the user also installs the
recommended packages like in this case:

Yes, but not for python stdlib. This is Debian/Ubuntu specific (see

Up-to-date pip might fail because ubuntu ships some egg-info files for
stdlib packages in /usr/lib/python2.7/, but egg-info files are only
  for locally installed packages.

  How to reproduce with argparse:

  $ virtualenv venv
  $ . venv/bin/activate
  $ pip install -U pip
  $ pip install -U argparse
  Collecting argparse
Downloading argparse-1.4.0-py2.py3-none-any.whl
  Installing collected packages: argparse
Found existing installation: argparse 1.2.1
Detected a distutils installed project ('argparse') which we cannot
uninstall. The metadata provided by distutils does not contain a list of files
which have been installed, so pip does not know which files to uninstall.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1530376] Re: On desktop, target="_blank" link should open new windows, not background tabs

2016-04-17 Thread Dario Cavedon
"On a phone, this would be the expected behaviour."

On a phone, I think it would be better if it opens a new tab (OK), and
your focus is on that new tab. I think it's better, because if you're on
your phone, and you click on the "twitter button", you can't immediatly
realize if your click was ok. Somebody could click two o three time
before realizing that webbrowser app already open two or three new tabs.

This is what actually happens with Firefox on Android and even with
Explorer on Windows Phone. A new Ubuntu Phone user - coming from that
user experience - should expect it.

Bug description:
In webbrowser-app, when you share a web page using the "share buttons", you
get the wrong tab: you remain on the same tab instead being on the new tab.
You can reproduce the bug every time, e.g.:
  1) open the link
http://arstechnica.com/science/2015/12/space-for-europe-and-for-all-humankind-a-brief-history-of-the-esa/
  2) click on the "social button Twitter" (see attacchment "1")
  3) the webbrowser-app opens a new tab, but you remain on the first one (see
"2")
  4) if you click on the first tab, you refresh it so you can see the page (see
"3")
  5) if you click on the second tab, you can see the right page, and you can
share the link (see "4")

Happens with webbrowser-app 0.23+15.10.20150929-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu
15.10 desktop and Ubuntu Phone OTA 8.5.

Wrong volume binding when connecting bluetooth speakers

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have a 2.1 speaker system and a Logitech bluetooth adapter for them that
connects to my Asus UL50AG notebook for sound.
In Sound Settings, I then have 2 entries: Built-in Audio Card and Logitech
Adapter.

The problem is that when I connect/reconnect to the bluetooth adapter,
the sound volume knob is not bound to the Logitech Adapter. Instead,
in Sound Settings, the Built-in Audio Card is selected instead of the
Logitech Adapter. And when I use the multimedia keys on my notebook
(Volume Up, Down, Mute), they have effect on the sound coming out of
the notebook, not the external speakers.

The expected result would be that, when I connect/reconnect the
bluetooth adapter, the volume multimedia keys should bound to the new
bluetooth setup, not the internal audio.

Bug description:
Up-to-date pip might fail because ubuntu ships some egg-info files for
stdlib packages in /usr/lib/python2.7/, but egg-info files are only
  for locally installed packages.

  How to reproduce with argparse:

  $ virtualenv venv
  $ . venv/bin/activate
  $ pip install -U pip
  $ pip install -U argparse
  Collecting argparse
Downloading argparse-1.4.0-py2.py3-none-any.whl
  Installing collected packages: argparse
Found existing installation: argparse 1.2.1
Detected a distutils installed project ('argparse') which we cannot
uninstall. The metadata provided by distutils does not contain a list of files
which have been installed, so pip does not know which files to uninstall.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 115970] Re: qt4 apps doesn't start with symbol lookup error

2016-04-17 Thread Mohammad Anwar Shah
The problem is caused by 3rd party application installing own versions
of Qt libraries. In my case, it is MF 710 3G modem used by sold by some
mobile operators here (Bangladesh). The libraries are in
`/opt/Teletalk_3G/usr/lib` (for Teletalk provider). The solution is just
remove those libraries.

cd /opt/Teletalk_3G/usr/lib
sudo mv libQt* /tmp/

Then use `ldconfig` command to reload the libraries.

2016-04-17 Thread Jean-Marc
Hi Milo and Kyle,

This problem also affects "Today Scope" as described by Dario Cavedon in its
bug description.
I have just given a suggestion to review in Italian and corrected the French
translation.
I think this issue affects multiple languages.

Today Scope link: https://translations.launchpad.net/today-scope

Turns out it is looking for wallpaper.jl or wallpaper.jlc. I searched for the
file, installed it where it could find it, and that is currently my workaround.

I reported it as "returns to login prompt", because that's what would
normally happen. I've seen sawfish crashes in the past, and I've
recently figured out enough to maybe catch it in the act to make a
sensible report about it. But since Xenial is so close that's not worth
persuing. Those crashes (losing my x session) were so annoying that I
have wrapped sawfish in a script that asks: really quit? before exiting
the loop of restarting sawfish.

So... somehow the wallpaper.jl is not being included the package.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571276] Re: tab reload when move between tabs

2016-04-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
This is the expected behaviour: when the system is running out of memory
(currently less than 30% available memory), the browser will start
unloading background tabs to free up some memory, thus hopefully
avoiding the entire application being taken down. Those tabs, when
focused again, need to be reloaded. Note that the data is cached, so
depending on server parameters, this might not imply data consumption
(for highly dynamic webapps it almost certainly will though).

** Changed in: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When you move between tabs of the web-browser the tabs are reloaded.
Not sure why it works this way (maybe for the memory) but sometimes is
very annoying also it makes more consumption of data when you are
connected through your sim and not through wifi.

  BQ E4.5 ubuntu edition.
