[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610619] Re: Xscreen saver and lightdm prevent use of operating system (total lockout) after guest session screen lock

2016-08-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Omadas,

lightdm tries to disable screen locking for a few cases, please see:

/usr/lib/lightdm/guest-session-auto.sh

Do you possibly know what's missing to make it effective for
xscreensaver?

xscreensaver will not accept a blank/null password, and with a
blank/null password assigned to the guest session, the xscreensaver

Same issue and same apparmor messages in syslog when upgrading from

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607185] Re: It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you didn't want to

2016-08-06 Thread Anupam
I second Daniel. This is fine with desktop/laptop/tablet, but
unintuitive for phone use (staged mode). The launcher takes ~20% of the
screen in portrait mode, and then it feels awkward when you can't
dismiss it.

It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you
  didn't want to.

  Test case:
1. Open an app.
2. Open the launcher swiping from the left.
3. Close the launcher without triggering any touches in the app.

Expected: Tapping outside the launcher will close it without touches reaching
the app.
Observed: Tapping outside the launcher closes it but unwanted touches reach
the app.

You can close the launcher by swiping it back off the side, but it's
too small to do that very easily without also accidentally touching
  the top-most app.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1605813] Re: lock screen freezes while trying to wake from suspend

2016-08-06 Thread A. Scheuer
Another detail: I use xscreensaver, not Light Locker, which works
perfectly well otherwise.

And I get a normal sleep (from which I can wake the computer) when I
undock my laptop (but I don't know why it turns to sleep mode in that
situation).

Title:
lock screen freezes while trying to wake from suspend

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Background:

I am running a fully updated 16.04.1 installation of Ubuntu using open
source nVidia drivers. When I press the power button on my PC to wake
the computer from suspend, the login screen appears and freezes. The
box around my username becomes somewhat opaque and no text box that
would allow me to enter my password appears. I have tried this many
times, and it always locks up in the same way.

  Steps taken after issue occurs:

I have found, however, that the system is not completely locked up. I
can use CTL + ALT + F2 to switch to TTY2. From there I can login and
  restart the computer without issue.

I also tried restarting lightdm via sudo service lightdm restart.
When I tried this and switched back to the GUI, the login screen was
loaded, and I could type my password. Once the login screen
disappeared, one of my monitors (dual-monitor setup) switched to my
user account's wallpaper, and then the system locked up. I had to
  perform a hard restart.

  Workaround:

I have found that using the proprietary 361.42 drivers provides a work
around for this issue. When using the proprietary drivers, the
computer resumes from suspend without issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1605813] Re: lock screen freezes while trying to wake from suspend

2016-08-06 Thread A. Scheuer
The same problem appears to me after upgrading to 16.04 with an Intel
card (described below), both with sleep and deep sleep: when I wake the
computer, I have a normal box in the centre of the screen, the rest is
darker, and no login box...

My only turn around is to log on another TTY, and stop the session (kill
-9 -1).

Similar environment otherwise (16.04.01 up to date, amd64), except fr_FR and
graphic card.
`sudo lshw -C display` returns (in French) *-display

Bug description:
openssl-ibmca usually requires libica2 and libica-utils for proper

like this:
  sudo tee -a /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf <
/usr/share/doc/openssl-ibmca/examples/openssl.cnf.sample
  sudo vi /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf
adding the following line as the first active one:
  openssl_conf = openssl_def
and removing or commenting all other occurrences of that line in the config
file
and saving and closing the openssl.cnf file
this output of the openssl engine command is expected:

But instead openssl is giving this error, due to a missing "libica.so":

There is no libica.so that is shipped with any of the above packages
(verified with dpkg -l) or otherwise available in the filesystem:
  $ sudo find / -name "libica.so" 2>/dev/null
  ubuntu@HWE0001:~$

But there is a different verison of that libica:
  $ sudo find / -name "*libica.so*" 2>/dev/null
  /usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu/libica.so.2
  /usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu/libica.so.2.6.1
  $

So there are right now two workarounds:
  1)
creating a (symbolic) link from libica.so.2 to libica.so, like
  $ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu/libica.so.2
/usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu/libica.so
that allows openssl to find a library named 'libica.so':
  18:15:00: frank.hei...@canonical.com: ubuntu@HWE0001:~$ openssl engine
  (dynamic) Dynamic engine loading support
  (ibmca) Ibmca hardware engine support
But this could lead to issues in case of any potential functions or interface
changes there we introduced with libica.so.2
  2)
installation of the "libica-dev" package that provides a (development)
version of libica.so:
  $ dpkg -L libica-dev | grep libica.so
  /usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu/libica.so
  $

But the hardware crypto exploitation should work out of the box w/o
the link or the libica-dev package.

Either libica.so should be shipped (in addition to libica.so.2) with
the proper dependency to openssl-ibmca - openssh-ibmca should make use
  of libica2 instead of libica.so.2...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1594023] Re: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04

Title:
Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is about a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install on a new laptop (asus
x540sa). After pressing the shutdown button in the start menu; the
shutdown procedure starts and in the final splash screen the system
just hangs. Tried a second time by pressing Esc once the splash screen
showed up and I saw that it reaches the line "Reached target shutdown"
and just stops there, no matter how long I leave it there the machine
  won't turn off.

I also tried a Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on the same machine and it
hanged too at the final splash screen where the pulsating logo
stopped. Then I tried with Esc only to see the exact same line in the
  end.

The issue seems to affect lately quite many users as shown by the
google results of the past month / week or so.

I have also tried shutting down from the console with shutdown -and
all the parameters after that suggested online- and sudo poweroff but
unfortunately they didn't do the trick. The exact same situation
  occurred.

Unmounting the swap as suggested online doesn't work.

Also rebooting the system is not working either due to the same issue.

So right now the only way for me to poweroff the machine is to press
the power button on the keyboard continuously.

  Reproducible: Always

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1.Install OS
  2.Do something, anything or nothing
  3.Try to shutdown or reboot

  Actual Results:
The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there.

  Expected Results:
  Powering off the machine.

For what it's worth, closing the lid won't suspend the system, but
using the menu buttons for suspension will do it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610543] [NEW] After upgrading to 16.04, greeter does not handle double screen anymore

2016-08-06 Thread A. Scheuer
Public bug reported:

Hello.

I upgraded my laptop from 14.04 to 16.04 (Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS) a few days
ago. Since then, the login screen doe not appear anymore when I have a
dual monitor (either connected to VGA port or docked via VGA or HDMI),
both screen are black, showing only the cursor.

When I switch back to one monitor (disconnecting the VGA monitor or
undocking), the laptop turns to sleep (?!?). After waking it up, I got
the screen, can login, connect back the second monitor and activate it
(with xrandr).

If I connect the second monitor when the computer sleeps, and wake it
up, I then have the display, but without the login window (it appears as
soon as I disconnect the monitor).

The software lightdm is up to date (1.18.2-0ubuntu1).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1609745] Re: Touch screen not working on Acer Chromebook R11, CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN not enabled on mainline 4.7 kernel

2016-08-06 Thread Timo Jyrinki
The actual problem/bug is that for some reason the mainline Ubuntu 4.7
kernel lacks CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN. In 4.4 Ubuntu kernel
CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN is defined, but the touchscreen doesn't work.

However with mainline Ubuntu kernel sources, and CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN
enabled manually via a recompilation, touch screen now works! That means
the touchscreen does work with mainline kernel but Ubuntu config is
wrong for 4.7.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610534] [NEW] Open tabs keep getting forgotten

2016-08-06 Thread Sam Bull
Public bug reported:

The browser app keeps forgetting my open tabs on a semi-regular basis.
It seems to happen to me every couple of weeks or so, I will open the
app and all my tabs are gone. This is very frustrating, as there is no
easy way to recover them.

I think it may actually happen more frequently when there are around 7/8
tabs or more open.

OTA-12 (and previous versions), mako.

** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1523100] Re: Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

2016-08-06 Thread Roger Norton
This bug also appears to affect my acer aspire VN7 792G. I am unable to
use the internal stereo microphones, for skype for example, and they are
not shown on the input tab of the sound section of the system settings.
Please notify me when there is a fix to this bug.

Title:
Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Windows 10 on a 64bit Acer
Aspire VN7-792G and noticed, that the internal microphone doesn't
work. The computer has been released a couple of months ago and it's
Intel Skylake -based with a Sunrise Point -based motherboard.

INFO: The problem exists in Ubuntu 15.10 too, only microphone jack
detected. Currently using Ubuntu 16.04 for proper hardware support.

Alsa reports the audio device to be:

  Card: HDA Intel PCH
  Chip: Intel Skylake HDMI

The speakers are working fine, but both alsamixer and pavucontrol
(Pulseaudio Volume Control) raport the unplugged external microphone
connector as the only sound input.

I have tried many of the alsa model configurations (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) without success, alsa finds only the microphone
jack, which works fine when I plug an external microphone in it.

  Here's some info:

  lspci | grep -I audio:

00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H
  HD Audio (rev 31)

  cat /proc/asound/cards:

  0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0x8432 irq 128

And a clip from dmesg | grep snd:

  [3.019164] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: bound :00:02.0 (ops
i915_audio_component_bind_ops [i915])
  [3.047505] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: autoconfig for ALC255:
line_outs=1 (0x14/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) type:speaker
  [3.047508] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:speaker_outs=0
(0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
  [3.047510] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:hp_outs=1
(0x21/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
  [3.047511] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:mono: mono_out=0x0
  [3.047512] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:dig-out=0x1e/0x0
  [3.047512] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:inputs:
  [3.047514] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x1a

One problem is that I can't find any model options (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) or other parameters for the card's model
(ALC255), I suppose this issue is relatively new.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591472] Re: Xorg crashes immediately on login returning to greeter

2016-08-06 Thread Dan Kortschak
OK, `gdb64 /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg 2>&1 | tee gdb-Xorg.txt' works. The
instructions for backtracing at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing#Backtrace_with_gdb obviously need
some love.

With all the complaints from gdb out of the way it seems that the issue
shows up as the corrupted shared library list seen above.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

clients who get an ipv6 address from a dhcpv6 server assume the
address has a /64 prefix, but that is not necessarily true, and if the
subnet is different than /64 those clients will not be able to reach
other addresses in that /64 prefix because the other systems are not
on-link. This /64 assumption of dhclient effectively breaks the
  client networking for certain addresses.

  [Test Case]

Set up a server with two interface nics, and one client connected to
each of those interfaces. On the server, set up a ipv6 subnet on each
interface, with a larger prefix than /64, e.g.:

  2001:db8:0:0:1::/96
  2001:db8:0:0:2::/96

configure dhcpv6 on the server, to provide ipv6 addresses on each
interface. Set the server as the default ipv6 route for the clients.

Allow the clients to get dhcpv6 ipv6 addresses from the server. The
clients will each get a ipv6 address with a /64 prefix, due to the bug
  in dhclient.

Try to ping (or otherwise communicate) between the clients. Since
they have /64 prefixes, they think they are on-link with each other,
but they are not, so they can't communicate.

After the dhclient bug is fixed, repeat the above setup, and the
clients will get /128 prefixes instead, and then will be able to
communicate with each other, because they will route the traffic to
  each other through the server.

  [Regression potential]

None. Non-standard (i.e. not /64) subnets served by dhcpv6 currently
  are broken, this fixes that.

  [Other info]

  This is fixed in debian:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=684009

Upstream releases 1.2.2 as a stable point release to the 1.2.x branch
with a handy amount of bug fixes included. Most of the fixes are
around the behavior when the status of link has changed.

  [Test case]

After upgrading to 1.2.2, the user be able to use network-manager as
usual, nothing that works with 1.2.0 should break with 1.2.2.
errors.ubuntu.com should receive less reports than before.

  [Regression Potential]

Code changes in this release are focusing on bug fixes, even there are
some patches that aren't trivial they aren't likely to lead to
  significant regression.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591472] Re: Xorg crashes immediately on login returning to greeter

2016-08-06 Thread Dan Kortschak
I have sorted out the syscall-template.S issue by getting the libc6
source.

I have found places saying that the cause of gdb not liking the binary
is because of arch incompatibility (32 v 64). I tried this with no
change.

~# gdb /usr/bin/Xorg 2>&1 | tee gdb-Xorg.txt

Here we still have no capacity to get a backtrace. Once again, some indication
of how to proceed to get more useful information would be greatly appreciated.
