[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623763] Re: GTK Inspector Statistics tab non-functional

Bug description:
  Running a GTK+ 3 app with GOBJECT_DEBUG=instance-count enables the
Statistics tab in GTK Inspector, but after clicking the Record button
it never starts collecting statistics. This makes it difficult to
develop and debug memory leaks in GTK programs on Ubuntu.

  To reproduce:

  1. Start an app with the Inspector and GOBJECT_DEBUG=instance-count
  set, e.g.:

  > GOBJECT_DEBUG=instance-count GTK_DEBUG=interactive gnome-calculator

  2. Click the Statistics tab
  3. Click the Record button
  4. Click around the app a bit

Expected: Object counts go up, pretty graphs showing things
Actual: Object counts stay at 0, pretty graphs showing flat lines

This seems like it is Ubuntu-specific, since when running GTK+
programs installed via Flatpak (and hence using the Flatpak runtime),
the above works fine on the same system.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 139227] Re: Make gdebi harder to use (was: Disable support for adding repositories)

2016-10-15 Thread aaronfranke
I believe that the user should be able to add repositories with Apturl.
It's better behavior because it makes the system easier to use. It does
make sense to provide a warning (something like "Warning: This enables
obtaining software from a 3rd party, it may be unsafe! Do you want to
continue?" maybe) since there is a security risk if the user isn't
careful.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apturl

I think the ability to add repositories to the apt sources should not
be enabled/included by default. This is potentially a huge security
  risk.

E.g. a user can be easily seduced to enable some repository to install
the newest coolest most beautiful screensaver from it, but later a
package is added to that repository with malicious code that replaces
one of the ubuntu packages on the system.

Apturl provides some great functionality, but it should encourage
people to install software from the official repositories, not make it
supereasy to enable all kinds of untrusted third party repositories.

Wether you agree with this or not, I think it would be good to at
least discuss this on ubuntu-devel before enabling this feature.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1614806] Re: This package breaks "ark" rar support

2016-10-15 Thread Gavin Sharpe
This bug seems to be present on Kubuntu 16.10 also.

Attempting to open a rar file gives "No suitable plugin found.
Ark does not seem to support this file type."

Ark 16.04.3

dpkg -s shared-mime-info | grep Version
Version: 1.7-1

I have installed rar, unrar, p7zip-rar. I can extract files from the
command-line but not from Ark.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633780] [NEW] hdmi cable off causes no sound output

2016-10-15 Thread jfcgauss
Public bug reported:

-plug hdmi cable in to my laptop and LCD tv
-replicate my laptop screen on tv
-from sound settings, select hdmi output
-watch a movie, everything is fine ;)
-plug hdmi cable out of laptop
-now play music/video on laptop but NO sound is heard
-in sound settings, builtin laptop speakers is selected, sound test "works"
-play music/video on laptop but no sound is heard, no change
-open music/video file with VLC player, select Audio > Audo Device, there i see
builtin HDMI selected, i select builtin speakers
-sound works again on laptop

so after plugging out hdmi cable, even though i "only" see builtin
speakers in sounds settings, hdmi output selection persists, and I cant
fix it in sound settings. I have to go to VLC player

A combination of upgrades to unity, compiz, and xorg over the last few

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1633583] [NEW] Can not connect to Bluetooth headset

2016-10-15 Thread Luke Yelavich
Is it possible that the issue you are experiencing is similar to bug
1574324? One way to be sure is to try the potential fix that I have
given in one of my last few comments on that bug.

Thanks.

I will when I know for sure where the bug is. I still need to do more
testing with regards to the profiles not working properly, with and
without various patches in the PulseAudio package for xenial. Will keep
you all posted.

Perhaps this error : /usr/sbin/fanctl: not found is fatal to resume
network ?

Have you experienced the same ?

Only solution for the moment is to reboot.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633776] [NEW] Crash due to SATA 3 issue in Skylake chip

2016-10-15 Thread ernest
Public bug reported:

Minor bug - I have an annoying work around

ASRock Z170 Extreme7+ Mboard has 10 SATA 3 ports off 2 controller chips
CPU is Skylake 6700. One SATA chip does 6 ports in pairs which also
serve as either SATA Express or M.2 drive controllers. these are SATA
3-0 to SATA 3-5, other has 4 SATA ports. System worked in Win 7, but
when booting to Kubuntu 16.10 it kept coming crashing during boot with
an error of 'Unable to initiate SATA child Parent inactive.' I tried
every possible combination, and eventually got the system to load by
placing an Optical drive as SAT 3-0, and writing off one of the SATA
Express links. Once I got it going I started adding drives back in one
at a time, and hit the same problem when I got to the first SATA port on
the 2nd chip, and optical drive plugged in there soon fixed that.

Another issue was I couldn't create an M.2 drive as the system drive
while there was a hard drive connected to the system. Cut it back to
just the optical and the M.2 and it let me use the M.2 as the system
drive.

System now working with SATA 3-0 as optical, SATA 3-1 as 2TB HDD, SATA
3-2/3 as 500GB M.2, SATA 3 -4/5 as 500GB M.2, SATA 3A-0 as optical, SATA
3A-2 as 2TB HDD. Tested, as soon as I move an optical from the first
SATA port for the chip I get the error message during the boot-up and it
doesn't load. Switch back and it loads OK. I've a work around, but it
costs me a SATA Express line. However, you may see others with Skylake
chips havign the same issue.

I suspect it's an issue with the package checking the hardware during
the boot-up, but don't know enough to say for sure.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633751] Re: No login prompt when waking up the computer from suspend

2016-10-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hmm.. When suspending my computer through inactivity, I'm prompted for
password. Same thing when suspending through the Suspend item in the
System meny. So I can't reproduce the issue after all.

One question, @Hadrien, is if your computer successfully entered into
suspend mode. Can you please check what happens if you run the command:

sudo systemctl suspend

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633754] Re: dirmngr is used as daemon

2016-10-15 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
there are no commands in apt-key that use dirmngr, however user passed adv
commands can trigger this.
One option is for apt-key to proactively kill any outstanding daemons in the
temp-keyrings, before exiting.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1630399] Re: [Phone] Please enable opus audio codec support in qtmultimedia

[Phone] Please enable opus audio codec support in qtmultimedia

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in gst-plugins-bad0.10 package in Ubuntu:

Status in qtmultimedia-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Hi, as described in QTBUG-50567 [1], qtmultimedia doesn't support opus
audio codec so for example we cannot record Telegram voice messages (
  bug #1460464 and bug #1375179 ).

I patched qtmultimedia adding the support for audio/x-opus codec
through opusdec encoder in qtmultimedia, then I found qtmultimedia
5.4.1 (shipped with Ubuntu Phone vivid) is built against gstreamer0.10
and, as gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad packages is not installed by
default, opusdec encoder is not available.

I'm working on this bug, I created it to track the progress, in order
to add opus support I have to:

1 - create a new gstreamer0.10-opus package containing only the
opusdec plugin: I don't know whether I have to create a new source
package containing opusdec sources or only a new .deb package
(generated from gst-plugins-bad0.10 sources). I'm working on the
latter as gst-plugins-bad0.10 package requires work in any ways.

  2 - properly patch qtmultimedia source, I'm attaching a
working-but-needs-cleanup patch. I think some opus declarations in the attached
patch can be avoided, but I haven't had time to work on it so I'm attaching the
patch I tested (requires gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad).
I don't know if qtmultimedia xenial/yakkety versions requires the patch too,
I haven't checked them yet.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1630399] Re: [Phone] Please enable opus audio codec support in qtmultimedia

2016-10-15 Thread Devid Antonio Filoni
Hi Andrea,
my telegram-app branch adds voice messages sending feature however it doesn't
work without opusenc (opusdec is a typo) support.
Opusenc support is introduced by the qtmultimedia patch I attached, so this bug
has a solution :) Everything is working fine on my device (mako) with my
patches and I'm able to send telegram voice messages.

2016-10-15 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Hi Devid,
"it doesn't work without opusdec support" -> I'm a bit confused by this
sentence, do you mean that it doesn't work without your patch (but with the
attached patch it starts working), or that the problem does not have a solution
yet?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633751] Re: No login prompt when waking up the computer

2016-10-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report!

I just let my computer suspend by running this command:

sudo pm-suspend

Wasn't prompted for password when wakening up the computer, which would
confirm your observation.

However, I also tried:

sudo systemctl suspend

Then, when wakening up the computer, I was prompted for password as
expected.

So this may be related to the upstart -> systemd transition.

Title:
Double login to switch back to my session after closing the guest
  session

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 16.10 x64

* I have my session open and want to temporarily switch to the guest
session. I click on the appropriate item (top right menu of Unity).
* I am now on the guest session. After I'm done, I close the guest session.
* I am now in front of a screen where I can input my password to go back to
my session. The wallpaper is the default Ubuntu wallpaper as when I am not
logged in.
* After I validate my password, another screen is displayed that asks my
again to enter my password. That time, the wallpaper is my personnal wallpaper
I have in my session.
* I enter my password again and I am back to my session.

I did not have to enter my password twice in previous versions of
  Ubuntu when switching of sessions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633712] Re: gnupg2 is missing as dependency while apt-key uses it

2016-10-15 Thread Sworddragon
Does apt-key work without gnupg2? It seems that the most parts require
it, for example I can't even list the keys without it. Wouldn't it make
more sense to split apt-key into its own package and make gnupg2 a
harddependency of it?

want to use that stuff.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1380480] Re: network disabled after suspend - resume

2016-10-15 Thread Hans Deragon
This crucial bug that undermines the reputation of Ubuntu has remained
opened for a very long time. Obviously, the fix seams complicated since
it still has not arrived. But meantime, people want a working laptop,
period. This is the kind of bug that pushed many previous Linux users
to migrate to Mac OS X, simply because the latter simply works.

May I suggest that someone at Canonical simply push a script under
'/etc/pm/power.d' that calls 'systemctl restart NetworkManager.service'
upon resume until all power management and networking issues are
resolved? At least, this will give people back a system that "just
works".

  3) When I close the laptop's lid and open, the wifi should reconnect
  4) Wifi does not reconnect. It says "Wi-Fi networks" - "disconnected" when I
left-click on NM icon in notif area. However the context menu (right-click) has
items "Enable networking" and "Enable Wi-Fi" both with checkmarks.

  Workarounds:
switch off - on the physical switch on laptop OR two times go and select
"Enable networking" in the NM context menu (after first time it removes
checkmark and the "Enable Wi-Fi" item - visual feedback of being disabled).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633712] [NEW] gnupg2 is missing as dependency while apt-key uses it

2016-10-15 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 with apt 1.3.1 and on using apt-key I got the
following error:

Error: gnupg, gnupg2 and gnupg1 do not seem to be installed,
Error: but apt-key requires gnupg, gnupg2 or gnupg1 for this operation.

So maybe gnupg(2) should get a dependency of apt.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1632529] Re: sound problem

2016-10-15 Thread Ads20000
'I was unable to hear any sound even though I played a lot of stuff in
my Ubuntu machine. I tried re installing alsa and other things as
described in various forums, but none of them worked for me. Can anyone
please help me in getting rid of this?'

From: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1632071

Sorry, I marked his previous bug report as invalid and asked him to
refile when I should have simply changed the package affected and asked
for him to run apport-collect, but I'd forgotten that command.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633704] [NEW] network manager vpn stopped working

2016-10-15 Thread Zwylicht
Public bug reported:

I have a vpn-connection here which was working fine till recently. The
configuration was imported from an openvpn config file and when run
directly via "openvpn " everything's fine but networkmanager

reports "failure" for any further tries.

from the wistron_btns kernel module, used on FJ AMILO Pro V3505, to enable
and disable the wireless card module from the notebook function button.

The same BUG arise on all the recent kernels, including the one I'm reporting
about, even at installation time from the Ubuntu media, at module "load time".

By the way, once the kernel report this OOps, the system doesn't power
off or reboot correctly at shutdown time, it simply hangs, even when
installing the system from the media, a really serious issue for new,
  naive users.

The only way to solve the problem seems to "blacklist" the module in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist,conf, but, unfortunately, this will "LOCK"
the wireless module in its enabled or disables state and require to
boot a different kernel to unlock its state.

I did some investigation on the Net about this issue and I found an
interesting report about this problem, that seems known at least from
  kernel version 3.12,

  http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel=138463383801233=2

I tested the suggested patch against the
linux/drivers/input/misc/wistron_btns.c gentoo 4.4.21 source, my main
system, and, well, it correct the BUG, not anymore any Oops and the
  button seems to work correctly.

You will find the patch I applied to the wistron_btns.c source as an
attachment to this report: it is a really simple patch that I'm almost
sure (I didn't verified it) it may be applied unchanged to the
  4.4.0-43-generic Ubuntu kernel image sources.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633698] [NEW] ufw before6.rules adds echo-request and echo-response rules to wrong chain

2016-10-15 Thread Nick Tait
Public bug reported:

The default before6.rules file that is installed with the ufw package
contains a copy/paste error. It is apparent that the intention is to add
rules for echo-request and echo-response to the following chains:

ufw6-before-input
ufw6-before-output
ufw6-before-forward

However there is a copy/paste error and instead of adding the rules to
ufw6-before-output, it adds it to ufw6-before-input a second time. The
result is that the rules are absent from ufw6-before-output.

The file that needs to be fixed in the package is:
/usr/share/ufw/iptables/before6.rules

Here is what diff -u shows if I compare the original file to the
corrected version:

 -A ufw6-before-output -p icmpv6 --icmpv6-type neighbor-solicitation -m hl
--hl-eq 255 -j ACCEPT

The impact of this error is minor because the ufw.conf file sets the default
outbound policy to accept:
DEFAULT_OUTPUT_POLICY="ACCEPT"

Of course if anyone changed the default outbound policy then the error
would mean that pings made from the server to other machines would be
blocked.

I will attach the original and my fixed version of before6.rules to this
bug report.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this issue.

Nick.

Guest Session is destroyed despite not explicitly logging out

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu release: 15.04

Upon starting a Guest Session the user sees the following warning
  message:

  http://i.stack.imgur.com/YmG1M.png

"All data created during this session will be deleted when you log
out, and settings will be reset to defaults"

If the use closes the laptop lid, the user is logged out of their
session, hence destroying all their data.

This is a bug because by closing the laptop screen, it is not the
user's INTENTION to abandon the session. The guest session data should
only be erased if the user expressly switches or closes the session by
clicking "Log out" or suchlike in the interface.

I think a good enhancement would be to repeat the warning message if
the user attempts to close or switch session.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1633695] Re: upgrade to 16.10 fails

2016-10-15 Thread Ads20000
I think the relevant error is this one: AttributeError:
'ReleaseNotesViewerWebkit' object has no attribute
'_on_navigation_policy_decision_requested'
However, because you don't have all the logs attached to this report, please
could you refile the bug (with the same log, but pointing out that that last
line is probably the error in question)? I think that will make your report
more complete.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-10-15 Thread Joakim Koed
Luke: Should we open a new bug in regard to the profile switching bug? I
see something similar to #103 with your PPA.

I will personally continue to use my own ppa, and will probably publish
a version 4, when this pushes, so profile switching still works 100%,
until that other bug is resolved.

Thank you again. Great work figure out where in the patch the error
was/is.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575156] Re: Guest Session is destroyed despite not explicitly logging out

2016-10-15 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version and advise if
you are still experiencing this issue.

** Description changed:

- Ubuntu release: 15.04 LTS
+ Ubuntu release: 15.04

  Using: Asus laptop

Upon starting a Guest Session the user sees the following warning
  message:

  http://i.stack.imgur.com/YmG1M.png

"All data created during this session will be deleted when you log out,
and settings will be reset to defaults"

If the use closes the laptop lid, the user is logged out of their
session, hence destroying all their data.

This is a bug because by closing the laptop screen, it is not the user's
INTENTION to abandon the session. The guest session data should only be
erased if the user expressly switches or closes the session by clicking
"Log out" or suchlike in the interface.

I think a good enhancement would be to repeat the warning message if the
user attempts to close or switch session.

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: New => Incomplete

** Package changed: ubuntu => lightdm (Ubuntu)

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1588526] Re: [mako] Alarm doesn't ring when screen locked

2016-10-15 Thread Malcolm
Yes, I can confirm the alarm does sound but only when you pick the phone
up and turn on the screen.

However, this is after (10 minutes in my case) it should have sounded

Comment #13 describes a problem with a different alarm sound played then
expected. I believe that could be the same situation as in bug #1596924
(sound change need to be confirmed)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575156] [NEW] Guest Session is destroyed despite not explicitly logging out

This is a bug because by closing the laptop screen, it is not the user's
