[Touch-packages] [Bug 1648183] Re: Crackling and popping sound when using headphones

2016-12-25 Thread humble_coffee
I'm also experiencing this exact issue. While it doesn't happen all the
time, it's sufficiently frequent and unpleasant that I just can't listen
to music through the audio jack. It's still an issue using the 4.9
mainline kernel. Using a USB sound card makes the problems go away.

  Crackling and popping sound when using headphones

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Laptop is HP Pavilion - 15-au118tx. The laptop has B and O play and
  the output from speakers are just fine, when using headphones there is
  some kind of crackling and popping sound in both ears but prominently
  in the left ear.

  The issue happens only when the sound is played, if i reduce the PCM
  way low using alsamixer, the effect is minimized but the volume is
  also reduced. Increasing the volume in the panel increases the PCM as
  well.

  GUFW blocks all incoming VNC connections even if rules allow

Status in ufw package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I am having a problem with GUFW. I have it set to block incoming
  connections from everything. I then set rules to allow incoming
  connections from a VNC client on my local network to a VMWare Player
  VNC setup but no matter what I do with those rules, I cannot connect
  to the VNC server on my machine unless I change the setting for my
  profile to Allow for everything. Making and applying rules has no
  effect if the "Incoming" setting at the top of the application is set
  to Deny or Reject.

  The only other option is to turn off the firewall entirely for a
  moment for the VNC client to connect, and then turn it back on again
  once a connection is established. Allowing all incoming connections
  for even a few moments just to use VNC on one port is a security risk.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652549] Re: package libkrb5support0 1.13.2+dfsg-5 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite shared '/usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz', which is different

2016-12-25 Thread Steve Langasek
I've verified that the contents of
/usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz in libkrb5support0
1.13.2+dfsg-5 correctly matches across architectures. This looks like a
problem of local filesystem corruption on your install. You can check
this by installing the debsums package and running 'debsums
/usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz', which should return
no mismatches.

Also, the correct md5sum for this file is:

$ md5sum /usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz
553513278beb9f1512774d100fbd3176
/usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz
$

You should be able to resolve this problem either by running 'sudo apt
install --reinstall libkrb5support0', or by manually removing
/usr/share/doc/libkrb5support0/changelog.Debian.gz, and then installing
libkrb5support0:i386.

Closing this as invalid, since this problem is not reproduced with the
package in the Ubuntu archive.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1642973] Re: DNS stops working when changing networks

2016-12-25 Thread Steve Langasek
Sorry for not following up sooner. no further ideas how to debug, but I
think it's reasonably clear this is a dnsmasq issue rather thana
resolvconf issue. Reassigning.

Bug description:
  Since upgrading to 16.10 I am having frequent DNS failures. It usually
happens when I change networks and after resume from suspend, for example going
to home from work, or vice versa. When this happens, connectivity is fine (I
can ping 8.8.8.8 for instance), but I cannot resolve names (eg. google.com).
  Restarting network-manager instantaneously fixes the issue.

  Curiously I have not found this bug on Launchpad. Here is some related

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1651707] Re: ntpd[1243]: error resolving pool 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org: Name or service not known (-2)

2016-12-25 Thread Paul Gear
The global pool is certainly working and its DNS servers are resolving
correctly:

$ host 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org has address 108.59.2.24
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org has address 129.250.35.250
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org has address 52.0.56.137
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org has address 72.14.179.135

Directly after the last occurrence of the resolver failure, your ntpd
resolved a large list of pool servers, including 5 within the same
second as the error message.

Without knowing your configuration, I'd guess this was a network-
manager-initiated restart, and your resolver setup simply wasn't
finished by the time ntpd was asking for DNS names. If you're using the
default ntp configuration (or similar to it), this will not be a
problem, because ntpd will retry the DNS lookups.

Bug description:
  When sshd_config contains a comment of more than 1023 chars, it treats
  char 1024+ as valid configuration. That usually breaks the config, or
  (in case there accidentally is valid sshd_config syntax) is unwanted.

  To verify the bug, apply appended patch to sshd_config (that prepends
  a long comment) and try to start ssh. You will see this:

$ sudo /usr/sbin/sshd
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 2: Bad configuration option:
ThisIsAnInvalidOption
/etc/ssh/sshd_config: terminating, 1 bad configuration options

  Note that it complains about line 2 though the offending comment is in
  line 1.

  It is worth mentioning that active configuration lines longer than
  1023 chars work fine. (I discovered this bug when i commented out a
  long "Match Address" list)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1496163] Re: i915 firmware is not copied to initrd

2016-12-25 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Jason, or anyone else affected,

Accepted initramfs-tools into trusty-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/0.103ubuntu4.6 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

  [ Impact ]

  On Skylake, skl_dmc firmware is not incorporated into the initramfs.
  This is because it is a symlink to a versioned blob and the initramfs-
  tools hook does not dereference symlinks. As the driver is actually
  loaded from the initramfs, the firmware is missing for the lifetime of
  the boot, which means that the GPU cannot enter its lowest available
  power states plus some hotplugging scenarios are broken. This all
  manifests itself as such in dmesg:

  [0.728803] i915 :00:02.0: Direct firmware load for
i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin failed with error -2
  [0.728817] [drm:i915_firmware_load_error_print [i915]] *ERROR* failed to
load firmware i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin (0)

  [ Test Case ]

  After the fix has been applied and the initrd regenerates, the
  firmware should load successfully after a reboot.

  [ Regression Potential ]

  Unlikely, as the fix is part of Ubuntu since Wily.

  NM needs to re-read the DEVTYPE after the device name changed, an example is
that WiFi network list disappears from network manager applet

  [Testcase]
  1. Boot the system. It should include a wireless device.
  2. In a terminal, run 'nmcli dev'.
  3. In the correct case, the line for the wireless device should read "wifi"
under the TYPE column. In a failure case, it will read "ethernet".

  After upgrading to the new version, the repeating the above steps
  should give expected behavior.

  [Regression Potential]
  Potential of causing regression is relatively small for a one line change to
re-read a value to be known.

  ---

  Problems:-

  1. The network manager applet does not show the list of WiFI APs it can find.
  2. The network manager applet does not the name of the AP to which it is
connected
  3. The icon of the applet shows two vertical arrows in opposite direction -
the wired connection symbol and NOT the wifi connected icon.

  Temporary Workaround:-
  Log out and again log back in.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 554009] Re: Resume from disk (swapfile) fails

Title:
  Resume from disk (swapfile) fails

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

  Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 fully updated as of today (2 apr 2010) AMD64

  initramfs-tools 0.92bubuntu71

  I can hibernate my notebook but when I try to wake it up again it starts with
a normal boot.
  I would say it doesn't even *try* to resume.
  I'm using a swapfile and I configured the kernel command line accordingly:

  BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-19-generic
  root=UUID=f0e784ed-e140-4d73-87a3-8ef047012b9f ro reboot=bios,warm
  resume=UUID=f0e784ed-e140-4d73-87a3-8ef047012b9f
  resume_offset=29470720 vga=0x315 quiet splash

  also my /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume file should be correct:

  resume=UUID=f0e784ed-e140-4d73-87a3-8ef047012b9f
  resume_offset=29470720

  Nevertheless, when the pc boots I always get this in my dmesg,
  regardless if it was a real clean boot or if it was a boot after an
  hibernation:

  [0.778970] PM: Checking image partition
UUID=f0e784ed-e140-4d73-87a3-8ef047012b9f
  [0.785267] PM: Resume from disk failed.

  My notebook is a dell precision m6400 and hibernation used to work
  fine (with the same setup) in karmic.

  I tried myself to narrow down this problem and I came out with this
  conclusion:

  In /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/resume (which I
  suppose is used to see if a resume has to occur) there is a check on
  the type of hibernation (if any) happened with this line (almost at
  the end of the file):

  SWAPTYPE=$(wait-for-root "${resume}" ${RESUMEDELAY:-5})

  It is my understanding (but I might be wrong) that the function
"wait-for-root" can only check the partition whose UUID is passed as ${resume},
but it has no idea about the offset.
  So I think that it works only for swap partitions but not for swap files.

  I would like to make the hybernation/resume thing work for my laptop,
  so if I can be of any help testing things or if I can give any other
  info I'll be glad to do that.

  Well, hibernation with swap file doesn't work while hibernation with

  The reason is that when resuming from swap file, initramfs script

  And I investigated the issue and found this patch solved
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-

  hibernate to work.

  And it isn't applied to the package. I'd like to help this is really
  applied to the official package.

  In short, my setup is swapfile inside the system filesystem (LUKS +
  LVM2 + ext4).

  Also, I roughly followed this tutorial to prepare this configurartion

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1551385] Re: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04)

2016-12-25 Thread Geokimbo
It appears to be fixed now though, either that or the alsamixer fix is
now sticky. If it doesn't work out of the box then do an update and if
that doesn't work try the alsamixer fix and it should then continue to
work after reboot.

Bug description:
  Hello,
  On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Alpha), with the latest package updates (28/02/2015),
Linux 4.4 and PulseAudio 8.0, I can't play any sound on my ASUS Xonar DGX.
Tested with the app to test speakers, Firefox, VLC, and checked with
pavucontrol, the progress bar indicate that a sound is played on the card, but
no sound on the speakers.

  I report this bug because it works on the same version with the
  integrated card of my motherboard. (ASUS H87-PLUS)

  On Ubuntu 14.04 (PulseAudio 4.0), the sound work correctly (with all
  defaults params)

  The speakers connected are the Logitech Z9600 (by 3 jacks), and I
  precise that they are correctly plugged in, etc..., it works when I
  connect it to the integrated sound card of my motherboard (and if I
  use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS)

  I don't know if it's a normal development bug, but in doubt I report it.
  Thank you,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1650319] Re: can't use keyboard after resume from suspend

2016-12-25 Thread J
I seem to have fixed this by adding `atkbd.reset` to my boot parameters.

You can add them to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX` and
`GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT` in `/etc/default/grub` then `sudo update-
grub` for them to apply on every boot.

Title:
  can't use keyboard after resume from suspend

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Many times (around ~60% of them), resuming my laptop from suspend
  results in a not-working keyboard.

  Solution/Workaround is: close lid, let it suspend again, and try to
  resume until keyboard gets working again.

  Another solution is: plug an usb keyboard, and run something like "modprobe
usbhid" or "modprobe hid", and this unblocks also the laptop keyboard.

  Probably this is a bug in the kernel, but I have not enough knowledge
  to understand where it is located (maybe we can add some systemd hooks
  in /lib/systemd to catch such events and reload the kernel modules?)

  device without mobile data connection without apparent reason.

  Switching mobile data connection Off and back On from settings
  restores the connection.

  I don't have any useful additional info to provide, unfortunately.
  Please let me know if you need log/cmd output in particular.

  Expected behavior: a new popup window appears allowing me to choose a
  different directory, with filename completion. After I type the new
  directory and press Enter, the original file name remains in the Name

  Actual behavior: the Name field is cleared and focused. The original

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652131] Re: Putting Apparmor profile usr.lib.dovecot.auth into enforce mode blocks access to /var/spool/private/auth for Dovecot

2016-12-25 Thread Christian Boltz
profile="/usr/lib/dovecot/auth" name="/run/dovecot/stats-user"
denied_mask="w"

That's already covered by the latest upstream profile.

profile="/usr/lib/dovecot/auth" name="/run/dovecot/anvil-auth-penalty"
denied_mask="wr"
profile="/usr/lib/dovecot/auth" name="/var/spool/postfix/private/auth"
denied_mask="w"

That translates to:
  /{var/,}run/dovecot/anvil-auth-penalty rw,
  /var/spool/postfix/private/auth w,

info="Failed name lookup - disconnected path" error=-13
profile="/usr/lib/dovecot/log"

You'll need to add flags=(attach_disconnected) to the dovecot/log
profile.

Patch sent to upstream mailinglist for review.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652505] [NEW] Cannot connect to pulseaudio

2016-12-25 Thread GDR!
Public bug reported:

What I expect to happen: audio working like in Ubuntu 14.04

What is happening: programs cannot connect to pulseaudio server, the
server itself isn't crashing. For example, pavuctl hangs on "connecting
to pulseaudio", and all media applications are doing the same. It
sometimes happens that one application (which opened connection to PA
earlier) is still playing but new ones can't connect.

pulseaudio -k && pulseaudio

fixes this issue temporarly, until the next time it happens. The problem
occurs multiple times per session.

This is happening on 2 systems, one is not my own - a clean xubuntu
16.04 install - and the other is my own, where I tried various tweaks to
default.pa to fix the problem. None worked. This happens with a clean
default.pa too. I also tried installing oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-xenial-
dkms and that did not help either.

The errors reported in pulseaudio stderr are as following:
E: [alsa-sink-ALC892 Analog] alsa-sink.c: ALSA woke us up to write new data to
the device, but there was actually nothing to write.
E: [alsa-sink-ALC892 Analog] alsa-sink.c: Most likely this is a bug in the ALSA

2016-12-25 Thread Amr Ibrahim
The thing is, before Xenial, the drivers were in vdpau-va-driver. In
Xenial, they are in mesa.

vdpau-video (0.7.4-5) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Bump Standards-Version
  * debian/patches/mesa-drivers.patch: Removed. No longer ship drivers for
r600, nouveau and radeonsi. mesa now has native drivers.

  Totem can't play videos if gstreamer1.0-vaapi is installed on Gallium
graphics in Xenial because mesa-va-drivers is not installed as a dependency of
va-driver-all.

  Here is the dependency chain in Xenial:
  gstreamer1.0-vaapi Depends on libva1
  libva1 Recommends va-driver-all
  va-driver-all Depends on i965-va-driver vdpau-va-driver (no mesa-va-drivers!)

  Here is the terminal output of Totem (with gstreamer1.0-vaapi installed and
no mesa-va-drivers):
  :~$ totem
  Stream with high frequencies VQ coding
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
  libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
  libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/gallium_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0

  When mesa-va-drivers is installed, Totem plays videos just fine.

  This is fixed in version 1.7.0-2 in Debian and Yakkety.
  libva (1.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

* debian/control:
  - Add mesa-va-drivers as alternative to Depends of va-driver-all.
  - Bump Standards-Versions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652499] [NEW] Cannot hibernate properly ; systemd-sleep hangs

2016-12-25 Thread YS1
Public bug reported:

Hello,
on recent kernels including 4.4.0-57-generic, I observe more often than not the
following behaviour after clicking the Hibernate button in XFCE4 interface :

1. Screen becomes black
2. No hard drive activity, which is suspicious
3. Moving the mouse shows the "locked screen" lightdm prompt
4. Unlocking the session, I get back to it ; things seems to work as usual
except the ethernet connection is down
5. ps aux | grep hib shows that there is a /lib/systemd/systemd-sleep
hibernate running
6. if I kill this process, the computer finally hibernates
7. booting the computer again resumes the session (with networking enabled) but
with persistent graphical glitches on some parts of the interface, most visibly
  a. in my terminal, all occurrences of the letter b are scrambled
  b. in all windows, the maximise/minimise/close buttons are scrambled.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1648143] Re: tor in lxd: apparmor="DENIED" operation="change_onexec" namespace="root//CONTAINERNAME_" profile="unconfined" name="system_tor"

2016-12-25 Thread John Johansen
This occurs in a stacked policy situation, where there is a system
policy is being applied but within the container namespace, the policy
is unconfined.

The special casing for unconfined with no-new-privs is not properly
detecting this case. I will have a test kernel with a fix for this issue
early next week.
