Title:
  mouse pointer leaves trail

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In my desktop system Kubuntu 15.10 I have the integrated graphic card
(Intel HD3000) and a discrete graphic card (Nvidia GTX 550). Some days
ago I attached a monitor on the iGPU and enabled it, giving me a
triple head system (two monitors on the Nvidia and one on the Intel).
From that moment, the mouse pointer started to leave a trail when it
pass over something that is animating. I'm using nouveau for the
nvidia card. I tried to upgrade to Kubuntu 16.04, but it gives me the
  same glitch.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

2016-12-31 Thread Damon Lynch
Taking a full-screen screenshot of the problematic view (i.e. with a
maximized terminal window full of text), and then viewing the screenshot
at full screen, is displayed fine.

Title:
Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The screen experiences severe flicker when using Nvidia 375.26 on a
GTX 1070 in 16.10, Unity Desktop -- but only when the terminal is in
the top left of the screen or maximized, and is full of text.

I made a video illustrating the problem: http://damonlynch.net/share
  /Ubuntu1610screen-flicker.mp4

Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA.

At this point I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software
problem -- I've never seen anything like it before. I've ruled out the
DisplayPort cable as a problem, because it exhibits the same problem
  with two different cables.

The LCD is a Dell UP3017.

Bug description:
After upgrading to Xenial today and ensuring the xorg radeon driver
was enabled, when booting both monitor lose signal input and the
  keyboard becomes unresponsive.

Subsystem: XFX Pine Group Inc. Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1682:2990]

WORKAROUND: Use one of the following kernel parameters:
  nomodeset
  radeon.modeset=0

The machine will boot but the radeon driver will not load. Attempting
to load radeon driver with `sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1` after
booting with modesetting off results in the same fail state explained
  above.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652695] Re: GCE default NTP configuration uses both leap-smeared and true UTC sources

2016-12-31 Thread Paul Gear
It appears that this is not a high priority issue, since the default NTP
configuration will automatically exclude the leap-smearing source, given
sufficient other good sources:

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23720277/

However, we may want to consider changing the default ntp configuration
to use 'server' rather than 'pool' for ntp.ubuntu.com, to ensure that it
is included in the configuration at least once.

GCE default NTP configuration uses both leap-smeared and true UTC

Status in cloud-images:

Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
A default install of cloud images on GCE results in a configuration of
NTP which will likely be problematic during leap seconds, because it
uses both Google's leap-smeared time source, and the public pool,
which uses true UTC. These should not be combined in the default
  configuration.

The principle of least astonishment would suggest that a non-standard
feature like leap smearing should be disabled by default.

This behaviour has been consistent in the 3 different GCE regions in
  which I've recently created instances.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu

2016-12-31 Thread Brad Lucier
I'm not an expert, but it seems that the pace of Apple's OS changes and
the updates needed by the libimobiledevice team to keep up with them
might mean that one cannot rely on either Ubuntu's packaging of
libimobiledevice or a separate ppa, but must just build things from the
git repository, if you know how.

This worked for me:

19 16:35 git clone
https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice.git
20 16:35 cd libimobiledevice
21 16:35 ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local/libimobiledevice
22 16:36 make
23 16:36 sudo make install

At this point I changed my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include
/usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib at the front, so ifuse, etc., will load
the new library instead of the pre-installed one. I use tcsh so that
command looks like

setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib:

Then the following worked (after some fidgeting, rebooting my iPod
Touch, etc.):

37 16:44 idevicepair pair
38 16:45 ifuse /media/iPod/

At least I can load my music into Rhythmbox, etc.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653386] [NEW] Gamepad not recognized as joystick

2016-12-31 Thread Afiefh
Public bug reported:

I recently brought out my old bluetooth HID gamepad (iPEGA PG-9053) and
was surprised to find that I didn't get any input in SDL games, though I
know it used to work with older versions of Ubuntu (approximately 14.04
I think). KDE's "input devices" configuration would be able to perfectly
read from /dev/input/js0 but many games failed to get any input from the
gamepad.

It turns out that the reason for this is that the event devices
(/dev/input/event*) were not readable for the default Ubuntu user (crw-
rw, group=input).

It seems that only devices that are marked as Joysticks will have global
read permission set for them. This means that apparently my humble
gamepad was not detected as such. The following is the udev info for my
gamepad:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653347] Re: [profile] netstat(8): ptrace and many DENIED messages (target=*).

2016-12-31 Thread John Johansen
The denial messages like
  target=B00280F4B00280F

are caused by a kernel bug, in reporting the the profile name of the
target of the ptrace.

In general ptrace operations are controlled by both capability and
ptrace rules. This is because within the kernel ptrace calls in to the
capability code, and hence the capability hook without the security
system having context of the reasons (semantics) for the capability
request. So you will need the capability rule.

Yes, netstat will also need a file rule like you described as it will
walk parts of the proc filesystem as that is how it obtains information
about the network connection.

In the last days, weeks I've noticed that running netstat(8) utility

There are many DENIED messages but not related with, for example, lack
of some rule etc. It looks this way; run i.e. `sudo netstat
-talpn/tulpn` command and check log files - there are such entries:

  profile="/bin/netstat" pid=17599 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F44B01

There are, of course, much more such entries - about 80. maybe more.
As we can see the only one thing, which has changed, is "target=*"
  entry.

According to Mr Steve Beattie, who's reproduced above issue,
"converting the 'deny capability sys_ptrace,' to allowing the
sys_ptrace capability made the rejections go away, as well as allowed
netstat's -p argument to work. Attempts to add a ptrace rule instead
  did not succeed."

Also, I've noticed that running netstat(8) as a normal user (without
sudo(8) - just for a testing purposes), produced such entry in a log
  files:

  [~]$ netstat -ta / -tunl
Active Internet connections (servers and established)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State

  /proc/net/tcp: Permission denied

  * /var/log/syslog file:

  Dec 31 13:19:02 t4 kernel: [ 3734.255210] type=1400
  audit(1483186742.483:604): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  parent=3210 profile="/bin/netstat" name="/proc/3293/net/tcp" pid=3293
  comm="netstat" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

As we can see, there is only one DENIED message, but this time
netstat(8) was run without 'p' flag, which is responsible for above
logs with many target=* entries. So, does netstat(8) profile needs
also a rule related to DENIED /proc/*/net/tcp? Something like:

  @{PROC}/[0-9]*/net/tcpr,

  AppArmor ver: 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10,
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS,
  Release: 12.04,
  Kernel: 3.2.0-120.163-generic-pae (3.2.79).

  Best regards.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652585] Re: Fonts are borken after suspend/resume somtimes

2016-12-31 Thread R. Steve McKown
This has also happened to me since upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04 several
months ago. It happens all too frequently, perhaps 1:5 to 1:8 resumes.
I am running DWM, a dynamic tiling window manager, so perhaps the window
manager running isn't important. I am up to date with updates.

I'll dry the latest daily live image next.

Bug description:
This crash seems to occur most frequently when opening a new URL in an
existing Firefox process. The URL is successfully opened, but the
client process then crashes while exiting. The result is that the
operation appears to work, but there has been a crash in the
background (which is then displayed by update-notifier and apport).

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. check "Enable assisitive technologies" in Preferences -> Assistive
Technologies
  2. restart X session
  3. start firefox
  4. start from terminal: firefox http://www.ubuntu.com

  Result: see crash.

Verify: with updated package it shouldnt crash.

Title:
DHCP settings for network manager shared connection are hard-coded
  source, should be editable

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  1) Ubuntu 10.04, but it's in all versions.
  2) any version of network manager
  3) I want to be able to change the DHCP settings for a shared network
connection
  4) YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM WON'T LET ME!

The file nm-device.c contains this line:

  nm-device.c:guint32 start = (guint32) ntohl (0x0a2a2b01); /*
  10.42.43.1 */

hard-coding DHCP settings that should obviously be editable by the
user is a TERRIBLE IDEA. PLEASE FIX.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1636905] Re: Sound card not recognized on Dell Vostro 5568

2016-12-31 Thread hakon
An update:

To sum up the previous posts in this thread:
The problem with the internal Realtek ALC3246 soundcard of my
Dell Vostro 5568 laptop in Ubuntu (tested with 16.04 and 16.10) seems
to be related to the suspend function. The sound stops working after laptop is
suspended and sound cannot be recovered unless Ubuntu (or Windows) is
reinstalled.

Workaround:

I have now tested three USB sound cards to work around the issue with
the internal sound card:

- Deltaco UAC-03 (cheep, and bad sound quality but works out of the
  box )

- SD-UAUDV2-C119 SDM USB 2.0, 7.1 surround, Xear 3D (cheep, medium
sound quality, works out of the box )

- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD (expensive, but excellent sound
quality, SPDIF output is not working out of the box)

Sound card not recognized on Dell Vostro 5568

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I just reinstalled a fresh Ubuntu 16.10 on my Dell Vostro 5568 laptop.

The audio controller on the laptop is a Realtek ALC3246 with Waves
MaxxAudio Pro. The external interface connector is a microphone
  in/stereo headphones/external speakers connector.

When I select "System Settings->Sound" the output device in the dialog
window shows as "Dummy Output" and when I press the "Test Sound"
button no sound is heard from either front left or front right speaker
( I have ensured sound is not muted ).

Note: Before reinstalling, I asked a question on askubuntu, com:

  http://askubuntu.com/q/841759/156688

So reinstallation of Ubuntu 16.10 did not help on my sound problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653347] [NEW] [profile] netstat(8): ptrace and many DENIED messages (target=*).

2016-12-31 Thread daniel CURTIS
Public bug reported:

Hi

In the last days, weeks I've noticed that running netstat(8) utility via
sudo(8) is responsible for many entries in various log files, such as
/var/log/kern.log or /var/log/syslog. I'm using this profile [1]. There
are many DENIED messages but not related with, for example, lack of some
rule etc. It looks this way; run i.e. `sudo netstat -talpn/tulpn`
command and check log files - there are such entries:

* /var/log/kern.log file:

Nov 30 19:12:15 t4 kernel: [12380.946835] type=1400

profile="/bin/netstat" pid=17599 comm="netstat" target=B00280F4B00280F44B01

There are, of course, much more such entries - about 80. maybe more. As
we can see the only one thing, which has changed, is "target=*" entry.

According to Mr Steve Beattie, who's reproduced above issue, "converting
the 'deny capability sys_ptrace,' to allowing the sys_ptrace capability
made the rejections go away, as well as allowed netstat's -p argument to
work. Attempts to add a ptrace rule instead did not succeed."

Also, I've noticed that running netstat(8) as a normal user (without
sudo(8) - just for a testing purposes), produced such entry in a log
files:

[~]$ netstat -ta / -tunl
Active Internet connections (servers and established)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
/proc/net/tcp: Permission denied

* /var/log/syslog file:

Dec 31 13:19:02 t4 kernel: [ 3734.255210] type=1400
audit(1483186742.483:604): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
parent=3210 profile="/bin/netstat" name="/proc/3293/net/tcp" pid=3293
comm="netstat" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

As we can see, there is only one DENIED message, but this time
netstat(8) was run without 'p' flag, which is responsible for above logs
with many target=* entries. So, does netstat(8) profile needs also a
rule related to DENIED /proc/*/net/tcp? Something like:

@{PROC}/[0-9]*/net/tcpr,

AppArmor ver: 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10,
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS,
Release:12.04,
Kernel: 3.2.0-120.163-generic-pae (3.2.79).

Best regards.

via sudo(8) is responsible for many entries in various log files, such
  as /var/log/kern.log or /var/log/syslog. I'm using this profile [1].
There are many DENIED messages but not related with, for example, lack
of some rule etc. It looks this way; run i.e. `sudo netstat
-talpn/tulpn` command and check log files - there are such entries:

  * /var/log/kern.log file:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2016-12-31 Thread Pilot6
The patch file error is because I did not remove the ID from ath3k.c,
but it does not matter. Just ignore it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2016-12-31 Thread Chandravadan
A strange thing happened -
I removed the deb and rebooted : Same error as before regarding missing patch
file not being found.

I installed the *new* deb : No errors, successful installation

Rebooted : Same error as before regarding missing patch file, *BUT*
after that there are some logs regarding a rampatch file (logs attached)
and Bluetooth works successfully.

I guess something in the deb triggered this?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1434986] Re: Not working network connection after boot

2016-12-31 Thread vmagnin
I found a solution when there is no network just after booting:
sudo pkill dnsmasq

The network manager then automatically relaunch dnsmasq as you can see by
typing:
sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager status

And it's OK !
So it seems to be a DNS related problem.

Bug description:
Directly after boot the network connections are not working. I am
connected and have an IP address, but I cannot establish a connection
  with any Internet server.

I have the impression it is related to thee DNS lookup, which waits
  forever for a result.

Cycling the connection (disconnect->reconnect) seems to fix the
  problem for some time.

I am reporting this against network-manager, but I am not sure if it is
directly in network manager or if it is systemd related.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 940030] Re: rsyslog stops working after logrotate until restarted

2016-12-31 Thread Robert
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Can confirm that invoke-rc.d does not work.

root@server:~# invoke-rc.d rsyslog rotate
initctl: invalid command: rotate
Try `initctl --help' for more information.
invoke-rc.d: initscript rsyslog, action "rotate" failed.

However, service does work.

root@server:~# service rsyslog rotate
 * Closing open files rsyslogd
   ...done.

Appears that the problem is associated with invoke-rc.d

Title:
rsyslog stops working after logrotate until restarted

Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This could otherwise be titled, rsyslog reload does not create log
  files; only restart does.

This is happening on a number of machines I work on. It's happening
on 10.04 and 11.04. It might be similar to:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsyslog/+bug/407862

But in my case after the restart there is no /var/log/syslog being
created, nor auth.log, kern.log, etc. The files are rotated, rsyslog
is reloaded, and none of the log files are created and nothing is
being logged. This has been plaguing my systems since moving from
syslog-ng, which I may return to as it seems it was actually
  production ready.

Without manually restarting those files don't exist so here's what I
  did on an 11.04 system:

  logrotate --force --verbose /etc/logrotate.conf

  gives:

  rotating pattern: /var/log/syslog
forced from command line (7 rotations)
empty log files are not rotated, old logs are removed
  considering log /var/log/syslog
log /var/log/syslog does not exist -- skipping
not running postrotate script, since no logs were rotated

  rotating pattern: /var/log/mail.info
  /var/log/mail.warn
  /var/log/mail.err
  /var/log/mail.log
  /var/log/daemon.log
  /var/log/kern.log
  /var/log/auth.log
  /var/log/user.log
  /var/log/lpr.log
  /var/log/cron.log
  /var/log/debug
  /var/log/messages
forced from command line (4 rotations)
empty log files are not rotated, old logs are removed
  considering log /var/log/mail.info
log /var/log/mail.info does not exist -- skipping
  considering log /var/log/mail.warn
log /var/log/mail.warn does not exist -- skipping
  considering log /var/log/mail.err
log does not need rotating
  considering log /var/log/mail.log

  considering log /var/log/messages
log /var/log/messages does not exist -- skipping
not running postrotate script, since no logs were rotated

  Then
  /sbin/reload rsyslog
  logger -i testing

At this point there is no /var/log/syslog

  Then:
  /sbin/restart rsyslog

And voila there is a /var/log/syslog beginning with:

  Feb 23 19:24:48 somehost kernel: imklog 4.6.4, log source = /proc/kmsg
started.
  Feb 23 19:24:48 somehost rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd"

Feb 23 19:24:48 somehost rsyslogd: rsyslogd's userid changed to 108

  Then to recreate:

  logrotate --force --verbose /etc/logrotate.conf

  rotating pattern: /var/log/syslog
forced from command line (7 rotations)
empty log files are not rotated, old logs are removed
  considering log /var/log/syslog

  glob pattern '-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]'
  compressing log with: /bin/gzip
  renaming /var/log/syslog to /var/log/syslog-20120223
  running postrotate script
  removing old log /var/log/syslog-20111219.gz

  rotating pattern: /var/log/mail.info

Bug description:
  Hello!

I'm using the Meizu MX4 on OTA 13 and my provider is Tele2 in Sweden.
I have checked with Tele2 that everything works on there part, which they say
it does.

The bug is that when someone sends a MMS message to me nothing happenes.
I can send MMS messages to others without problems.
But not receive, no notification, nothing.

Edit: I was able to receive MMS messages before OTA-10, during OTA-10
and OTA-11 I got SMS messages with a link to a web page and a code.

  Best Regards
