  Pressing alt-f2 switches the screen to the second virtual terminal.
  Alt-f3 does the same to the third and so on. I expected alt-f2 to open

  I'm pretty sure that my keyboard is not malfunctioning as I can use
  all my applications normally. (Pressing O and Ctrl-O do not have the
  same effect.)

  I'm not sure which package I should file this bug against. I'll

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1238838] Re: [qpa] QUbuntuIntegration requests screen info which open mir client connection with shell - even if client does not open window

--

Title:
  [qpa] QUbuntuIntegration requests screen info which open mir client
  connection with shell - even if client does not open window

Status in qtubuntu package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Take this application and compile it:

  > main.cpp <=
  #include

  int main(int argc, char *argv[])
  {

  return a.exec();
  }
  ==

  > test.pro <=
  QT   += gui
  TARGET = test
  TEMPLATE = app
  SOURCES += main.cpp
  ==

  On desktop, it simply runs, without opening a window, which is fine.

  On phone with Mir, it will fail to run as Mir (due to unity-mir)
  rejects it as a client. Since it does not open a window, why should it
  connect to Mir at all??

  Looking into it:

  which makes sense as in
  src/platforms/ubuntu/ubuntucommon/integration.cc
  in the constructor (called on initialization of the QPA plugin)
  QUbuntuIntegration::QUbuntuIntegration(QUbuntuInputAdaptorFactory
*input_factory)
  there's this line of code:

    // Create default screen.
    screen_ = new QUbuntuScreen(options_);
    screenAdded(screen_);

  QUbuntuScreen creates a Mir connection, as only Mir has screen info.

  So the question is: does QGuiApplication really need Screen
  information, even if it doesn't open a QWindow?

Bug description:
  GPU-heavy clients on Mesa gallium drivers (e.g. radeon, nouveau and
  freedreno) cause the Mir server to slow, sometimes to a halt. This is
  seen as a frozen screen, unable to move surfaces, or unable to switch
  VTs (for a while).

  For example:
     mir_demo_client_egltriangle -n
     mir_demo_client_eglplasma -n

  The -n flag (swapinterval = 0) seems to cause the client to overload

Bug description:
  Unity8 stutters constantly (like half frame rate) on a high-end
  desktop.

  This regression only happened recently, perhaps due to the
  introduction of Mir 0.26.0.

  Surprisingly though, using the same Mir release I can start a demo
  server on another VT and everything is silky-smooth. The problem only
  seems to occur with Unity8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

2017-03-13 Thread Mercury
So, this managed to break at least my VPN setup quite well.

See #1672491 with the details, but the short version is that 'specify
egress interface for each dnsmasq upstream server' breaks things in two
cases.

The first could be argued to be a bug on the VPN client side, though a
behavior change of this nature in an LTS release is decidedly unwelcome.

The second exposes a bug in dnsmasq which needs to be fixed for any case
where an interface is removed and then readded, this includes
suspend/resume and some VPN cases.

Regards,
Zephaniah E. Loss-Cutler-Hull.

  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Xenial:

Status in network-manager source package in Yakkety:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  This SRU would try to have the latest well-tested upstream point
  release (1.2.6) of 1.2.x land in Xenial, which is the successor of the
  current 1.2.2 version, fixing quite some bugs that's suitable to land
  in the stable branch.

  https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=nm-1-2

  [Test Case]

  After installing the updated version, users should be able to avoid
  some mem leaks in some cases and have generally improved DNS related
  experiences.

  Also, as this is a general point release update, cases described in
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/DistroTesting should be used
  for smoke testing.

  [Regression Potential]

  This is a bug/regression fix for 1.2.2 and 1.2.4, which is quite
  complete.

  [Other Info]
  The first attempt at SRUing this to xenial was for 1.2.4 but it failed
verification. This second attempt matches yakkety with 1.2.6.

  Parallel building was enabled in xenial to keep the diff between
  xenial and yakkety minimal since they are basically in sync now.
  Parallel building was enabled in the yakkety package in May 2016 so
  it's been working fine for a while.

  lp #1647283

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1672555] Re: If srcpkg is in main but a binary package is in universe, `apt changelog` fails

Title:
  If srcpkg is in main but a binary package is in universe, `apt
  changelog` fails

Status in extract-changelogs:
  In Progress
Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  $ apt changelog qemu
  Err:1 http://changelogs.ubuntu.com qemu 1:2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2 Changelog
Changelog unavailable for qemu=1:2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2 (404 Not Found)
  E: Failed to fetch

  Changelog unavailable for qemu=1:2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2 (404 Not Found)

  This is because the binary package's component is used to generate the
  URI, but the source is in main and changelogs are organized by source.

  Based upon IRC conversation with slangasek and juliank, it possibly
  makes sense to flatten the pool/ changelogs to drop the component
  subdirectory (with symlinks for BC) and then change apt to not use the
  component in the URI generation

  result when some application( ex. Syncevolution) tries to access it

  For example, running following command:

  '''

  SYNCEVOLUTION_DEBUG=1 syncevolution --print-databases –daemon=no\

  loglevel=2 backend=carddav username=uoa:3,google-contacts\

  syncURL=https://www.googleapis.com/.well-known/carddav

  Adding the carddav scope solves the issue.

  4. A screenshot of the backgrounded app will appear until the mediaplayer-app

  I would expect the normal white screen that you get when launching an
  app until the app itself loads and displays on its surface.

  Take an image of aspect ratio 4:1 or more, large and wide enough, will
  align it's left edge to left edge of the preview, and overflow the
  right edge, instead of matching width. To help you understand the
  problem: if you have "foobar" written on the wide image, you'll see
  only |fo| and |obar will overflow the right edge.

  Added a google account and it started to automatically sync my
  calendar. Before the sync was completed, I tried to touch at one of
  the alarms I had at the upcoming indicator, but unity8 crashed with a
  sigsegv as a result.

  It seems that the event was removed after the sync was completed, so
  at that time the entry was probably not completely valid.

  OSK hides part of the window under it, doesn't resize or scroll app
  viewport

Status in ubuntu-keyboard:
  Invalid
Status in Ubuntu UI Toolkit:
  Invalid
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  In Ubuntu Touch, the onscreen keyboard is used in almost every app
  with text input. It has a tendency to hide part of the window the
  user is entering text into though, in a manner which doesn't allow the
  user to access the bottom of the window and the keyboard at the same
  time.

  For example, when creating an online account, there is usually a field
  for username, password, maybe 2F code, possibly a "forgot my password"
  button, a submit button, etc. But after tapping in the first field to
  bring up the keyboard, the whole bottom half of the form can get
  covered in a manner that the user can't see that there is a submit
  button, and can't even scroll to see the rest of the form. One can
  dismiss the keyboard to see the rest, but then can't type into the
  remaining fields. Bring the keyboard back, and it's sometimes not
  possible to see the text being entered because the field is covered by
  the keyboard.

  Another example is when doing a search in a scope. The bottom few
  results cannot be accessed. The user can at least scroll to see the
  bottom few results, but as soon as the user lets go of the screen, it
  scrolls back into place to hide those results.

  The simplest solution I'm aware of for this is for the window manager
  to resize the app window smaller when the keyboard is visible, then
  resize it to the full screen again when the keyboard gets dismissed.
  This way, the app doesn't have to care about any of the details, it
  just needs to respond to resize requests (which are already required
  for other purposes, such as rotation and being able to display on
  devices with different screen sizes).

  Another option is for the app to be explicitly aware of whether the
  keyboard is visible, and take steps on a per-app basis to correct the
  display accordingly. For example, the viewport could be extended
  artificially with empty space at the bottom, to allow scrolling past
  the bottom. Part of the window would still be hidden, but it would
  only be the empty space explicitly created for that purpose. However,
  this method might be preferable in the case where the keyboard does
  not occupy the full width of the screen, like a corner pop-up on a
  large tablet. Then the app could be told that it has a dead area, and
  should take steps to compensate.

  screen was blank (white) except for a black vertical bar a little more
  than 2/3s across the screen. I went back to the desktop, then selected
  the System Settings icon under Recent Apps, and got all the
  labels/fields for setting the time. I selected America/Denver and it
  displayed an anolog clock with the local time in the left 2/3s of the

  clock pull-down again, and got Networks by mistake. When I scrolled
  that back up, the analog clock was also displayed in the right 1/3 of

immedialtely becomes black and after 10 seconds or so, it takes me back to the
login screen. All open apps are instantly closed. I also observed this while
opening facebook or music app sometimes.
  Also, the overall feel of the os is still clunky. I don't mean slow. Its ok..
Fast enough for a dev release but there is stutter when scrolling horizontally
and vertically(switching between lenses). I hope this gets fixed soon. Its a
wonderful os already.
  The freezes were also present on saucy but it seems to be happening with
increased intensity on trusty. I cant tell when the phone is going to freeze
and go back to the welcome screen. When it does so, the phone heats up very
quickly too.

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  If a scope's preview() method returns a null pointer then the dash
  opens a blank page when one of that scope's items is clicked. I would
  expect that an item with no preview would do nothing if clicked

  Friday I was asked to run some tests on maguro to see if it resolved

  that at some point the calendar would just not open fully leaving the
  screen grey, see http://ubuntuone.com/2ixQVLJb711JUr5m7OLXpB

  This meant that the tests all failed as they couldn't find a
  refference point button to press etc.

  I did a fresh install of todays image and all the tests ran fine
  (fresh as in phablet-flash ubuntu-system --channel devel-proposed -d
  maguro --no-backup) However when I added 4.3GB of Music some small
  videos and some user accounts and apps and contacts the tests started
  failing again.

  Not entirely sure on the cause but I'm going to add as many logs as
  possible here to see is anything useful shows up.

Title:
  [Dash] clicking on search result causes click scope to receive two
  activations

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:

  This is reproducible with trunk of both packages on the desktop.

  0. launch the click scope manually with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all, or tail
~/.cache/unity-scope-click.log
  1. swipe to the apps page in the dash
  2. search for an app (I've been using "tabu", but that won't show up unless
you started the scope with CLICK_PACKAGE_ARCH=armhf or you're on an armhf
device already. any search that returns at least one result should do.)
  3. click on the app's icon to show the preview
  # the scope log may show either one or two accesses to the web api, with the
following line:
  [unity-scope-click] - DEBUG: click-webservice.vala:305: calling
https://search.apps.ubuntu.com/api/v1/package/com.ubuntu.developer.danielbeck.ramsamsamreader

  4. close the preview, then click again to show it again.
  # there will now definitely be two new requests logged:
  [unity-scope-click] - DEBUG: click-webservice.vala:305: calling
https://search.apps.ubuntu.com/api/v1/package/com.ubuntu.developer.danielbeck.ramsamsamreader
  [unity-scope-click] - DEBUG: click-webservice.vala:305: calling
https://search.apps.ubuntu.com/api/v1/package/com.ubuntu.developer.danielbeck.ramsamsamreader

  EXPECTED: I expected only one request for a preview to be made when tapping
the second time.
  NOTE: if you continue to close and reopen previews, it continues to be
exactly two requests - they don't accumulate further.

  In trying to see if the scope was doing something wrong, I got
  backtraces from both requests, which show that they are both coming
  from completely separate activations, not from duplicated calls within
  the scope:

Bug description:
  I'm not sure whether to call this a bug or a feature, but on my mako
  and flo I can activate UI controls from all four screen edges
  simultaneously and drag them around independently. This is fine so
  long as I don't "let go" or otherwise finish any actions, but as soon
  as something activates, results are somewhat unpredictable.

  This puts six different UI layers all onscreen at the same time, in varying
states of being active:
- dash
- home scope
- current app
- previous app
- indicator menu
- bottom-edge menu(s)

  With a few more fingers, it may also be possible to interact with
  these, like, toggling indicator settings or launching apps or
  activating menu items. I'm not dextrous enough to do that without
  help though.

  Multitouch is great for typing or zooming or perhaps some other
  gestures, but I'm not totally sure it should be able to control
  multiple unrelated UI elements at the same time. (some apps might
  want many fingers, for implementing a piano or something, but it's
  awkward at best as a primary UI feature)

Status in Ubuntu UX:

Bug description:
  I asked Oren about this and he said the preview should close when the
  search indicator is tapped.

  1. open apps scope
  2. press and hold on the icon of any app so that its preview opens.
  3. tap the search indicator

  What happens:
  OSK appears but typing on it does nothing

  What should happen:
  As soon as the search indicator is tapped, the preview should close and the
App scope header should change to search bar.
