I have downgraded both the network-manager and resolvconf package but I still
experience complete DNS resolution failure randomly, where restarting the
network manager has no effect and I cannot connect to the internet. The only
way to get DNS working again is to completely reboot the computer,

sound dos not work crackaling noise
I have this problem using the clickpad for an HP Omen 15-at201tx running
Ubuntu 16.10. Changing the driver from synaptics to libinput did fix the
problem, but I like coasting (kinetic scrolling) so I would like to stay
with the synaptics driver. The problem doesn't occur in Windows 10.

I've found the issue. My container is not LXC, it's supplied by
elastichosts.com, a cloud provider, and must be based on some other
containerization technology.
/proc/1/environ does not contain container=lxc as checked for by the
postinit script in makedev, but it does have container=contain in it
