On my new installation of Xenial, the Network Manager behaves strangely.
When I booted the first time with no known networks, I received a notification
about available networks.
I checked the list of available, created one configuration and connected.
So far, OK.
However,
ubuntu 16.04 unity: find same problem that .XCompose with alt-right key
works in terminal and terminal-based applications (vi, yes I am that
old) -- but not in firefox, libreoffice, thunderbird, emacs, etc.
In my case, rm -f ~/.config/dconf/user did not work, nor did any of the
other tricks.

I had the latest DisplayLink driver and it still did the same thing to
me. And it gets worse than that. No errors are generated but the speed
is so slow it is almost unbearable whenever the DisplayLink device is in
use. I could click the icon for Files to launch Nautilus from the Unity
I'm not certain this is related but I did not experience the delay when
using lightdm, but do when using gdm3.

No worries. About gedit, I can't reproduce the issue. I changed gedit's
font to Ubuntu regular (initially it was Ubuntu Mono, so a monospace
context menu was expected, I guess) and the context menu is not in
monospace.

This is looking great so far. Instance booted nicely, no signs of a
