[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722151] [NEW] Incorrect syntax when writing to ~/.pam_environment

Public bug reported:

While investigating bug #1662031, I found out that /usr/share/language-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1712858] Re: system freezes occasionally for several minutes

2017-10-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, swapping is the responsibility of the kernel. So if your system
occasionally thrashing then that could cause this bug per comment #3. It
would also explain why the system is able to recover after some
minutes...

Please continue testing but it sounds like the memory hog is the real
bug (plasmashell or others). But that said, using several GB of "virtual
memory" (VSZ in ps) is not a bug. That's just address space and does not
imply any real memory or swap usage. Please monitor RSS (resident set
size) instead to see what's impacting the hardware most (run 'ps aux').

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722076] Re: DejaVu Oblique variants not installed by default

me select that.

DejaVu Oblique variants not installed by default

Status in fonts-dejavu package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, new install (well, as of a few months ago),
italic/oblique variants just weren't installed by default. In some
programs this resulted in text not showing, in others it resulted in
those square boxes that indicate no font installed showing. The issue
is in fonts-dejavu-extra which apparently doesn't exist in Ubuntu, so
I've selected I don't know, even though I have a damn good idea.

The only way to fix this that I quickly found is to install the
"transitional dummy package" that "can be safely removed" ttf-dejavu-
extra. With this package installed, all the variants of DejaVu are
installed. With it removed, the problem occurs.

This package installs the extra font DejaVuSans-Oblique.ttf: "DejaVu
  Sans" "Oblique".

I present the output of some commands to demonstrate the issue:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722076] [NEW] DejaVu Oblique variants not installed by default

2017-10-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, new install (well, as of a few months ago),
italic/oblique variants just weren't installed by default. In some
programs this resulted in text not showing, in others it resulted in
those square boxes that indicate no font installed showing. The issue is
in fonts-dejavu-extra which apparently doesn't exist in Ubuntu, so I've
selected I don't know, even though I have a damn good idea.

I present the output of some commands to demonstrate the issue:

me@mine:~$ apt-cache policy fonts-dejavu-extra

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1721763] Re: ubuntu is stuck with black screen and blinking cursos at top left on all shutdown or restart

2017-10-08 Thread Edson T. Marques
There is another case that is very strange. The suspend mode is not
working, either, since the kernel 4.12 upgrade onwards (in 4.11 it
worked fine).

When I close the lid of my notebook with it turned on, it appears that it
usually goes into suspend mode, but when I open the notebook lid again the
system does not reattach, staing stuked again in a black screen, this time, it
not always have a blinking cursor on top of the left side. The only way to exit
this state is pressing shuttdown button til notebook being off.

I read, some time ago, that for suspend mode to work fine, it was necessary to
define an appropriate swap space. Well, by the way, I set the size of my swap
so that it would be slightly larger than my ram memory.

I also apologize for reporting these issues here, but I'm not sure how I
could use the apport-bug to report these cases to the correct packages
...

If you have any advice that would guide me to properly report these
bugs, I would appreciate it.

Bug description:
I really do not know which package to assign this incident, please
  excuse me.

Any way, the release candidates is near, and this problem continues to
occur since linux kernel was updated from 4.11 to 4.12 ... and now
with version 4.13 the problem continues.

I noticed that this problem does not occur with my other two older
notebooks (one Sony Vaio and the other a generic one integrated by me)
both old notes use NVIDIA video card in versions of more than 5 years
  ago.

My new Dell notebook has a GTX 1050 video card ... but I also do not
know if the cause of this problem may be linked to the video card and
the fact that Nouveau driver and linux Kernel have received recent
implementations for compatibilities with this new NVIDIA technology.

The fact is that Ubuntu 17.10 has potential to be distributed with
this problem and I think this may not be interesting, so I am
  reporting this case.

  Thank you.

Public bug reported:

In the power settings, the option to suspend when the lid is closed is

battery is then drained.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1711037] Re: Screen intermittently flickers

These seems to be related to what is in monitors.xml.
When I deleted that file the flickering was gone but my monitors were out of
order and alignment.

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

Description: Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch)
  Release: 17.10

  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  Easily reproducible : apt-get install mesa-vulkan-drivers apt-get install
vulkan-utils

Open a terminal type vulkan-smoketest instead of a glxgears type window it
will segfault.
  message from kernel.log:
  Sep 29 16:23:53 Tardis-1 kernel: [17709.532915] vulkan-smoketes[11798]:

libvulkan_radeon.so[7f627053b000+18b000]

What should happen is a glxgears like window will open and render properly
instead of segfaulting.
It appears that the culprit is an old or broken libvulkan_radeon.so provided
by mesa-vulkan-drivers.

As a test I renamed the old lib and dropped in a newer version from
oibaf's ppa. smoketest now passes steam's The Talos Princible and Mad
Max now work properly in Vulkan mode as well instead of segfaulting.

This issue is also present on Zesty and fixed in both Oibaf's and
Padoka's ppa's since April back when they were rolling 17.2 mesa.

I have no idea if libvulkan_intel.so also needs updating no hardware
  to check.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1720890] Re: vulkan-smoketest segfaults steam vulkan games segfault

2017-10-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
no, missing extensions shouldn't make it crash, and even so it's an
upstream bug and nothing Ubuntu can do about but pull new versions when
they happen.

2017-10-08 Thread tom
Public bug reported:

Eee PC Seashell series.

There is no sound after installing Ubuntu Gnome 17.04. The volume
control shows the sound turned all the way up. The internal test found
under settings->sound runs but no sound plays. Etc.

Installed a mixer and all looked correct, but still no sound.

work around:

Installed the gnome_alsamixer package. Three headphone settings show
(strange). Turn up the volume on the far left of the headphones, and
then sound plays on the internal speakers. This is true, although the
'mute' box under the far left headphones volume control remains checked.
Checking or unchecking that mute box does nothing.

Wish I could attach two screen shots for the mixer, a before and after,
but the report seems to only allow one, so I attached the 'after' one
with working sound ..

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1719047] Re: Unable to resize window after snapped to half screen.

2017-10-08 Thread Alex Willmer
I had the same problem following an in-place upgrade from Zesty+Unity to
Artful. With the possible exception that my mouse pointer didn't even
change to "the arrow, tempting you" when hovering over the window
border.

I did an apt upgrade, an apt uninstall of *unity*, and a reboot. I can
now resize snapped windows. For reference I currently have mutter
3.26.1, and libgtk+3.0 3.22.21.0ubuntu1.

Font packages fonts-dejavu are all installed.

I issued this as scribus bug
  (https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=14475), but the maintainers said
it's not a scribus thing. I tried the suggested solution to upgrade
libfreetype6, but neither 2.6.5 nor 2.7 worked for me.

I also tryed to downgrade libfreetype6 and fonts-dejavu to the working
versions on Ubuntu 16.04, but also no success.

But using the dejavu fonts in e.g. libreoffice works fine.

  Ubuntu 16.10 amd64

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722029] Re: package libicu57 57.1-5 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile devolvió el código de salida de error 2

2017-10-08 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1676547] Re: No network connectivity (NIC unmanaged) after upgrade

Status in network-manager source package in Zesty:

Bug description:
  Impact
  --
When upgrading from Xenial (with all updates installed) to Yakkety/Zesty you
will boot to a system without networking - sad!

  Test Case
  -
  1) Boot a xenial desktop system
  2) Ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is
installed
  3) Upgrade to yakkety or zesty
3.5) Enable -proposed and download the new version of n-m "apt-get download
network-manager"
  4) Reboot
  5) Observe you have no network

If you install the version of network-manager from yakkety-proposed
and then reboot you should have a network connection.

  1) Boot a xenial desktop system.
  2) ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is
installed.
  3) Install nplan, configure to set up static network on an ethernet device
using nplan.
  4) Upgrade to yakkety or zesty
  5) Reboot
  6) Observe that your system is still being managed by networkd rather than
NetworkManager.

  Regression Potential

Any failure to manage ethernet or wireless devices after upgrade, or
issues with the use of netplan in conjunction with NetworkManager
should be investigated as potential regressions. For example, if after
upgrading, ethernet devices are no longer managed, or if devices that
should be explicitly ignored by NetworkManager due to existing user
configuration are now managed, these would indicate a possible
  regression caused by this update.

  Original Description

nplan was installed during the upgrade process but I had no network
connectivity after upgrading. Apparently, no package wanted to manage
  my ethernet connection.

Something went wrong that required me to boot to recovery mode via
grub. The important part here, is that while I got as far as the
recovery screen asking to "Enable Networking" and other options fsck
filesystems, drop to root shell, etc.

  and selected "Enable Networking":

  the result was:

grep: /etc/resolv.conf: No such File or directory.

Unknown group "power" in message bus configuration file.

(Networking did not enable, leaving me stranded at root shell without
network which would have made adding/removing packages to troubleshoot
  easier)

Bug description:
This crash seems to occur most frequently when opening a new URL in an
existing Firefox process. The URL is successfully opened, but the
client process then crashes while exiting. The result is that the
operation appears to work, but there has been a crash in the
background (which is then displayed by update-notifier and apport).

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. check "Enable assisitive technologies" in Preferences -> Assistive
Technologies
  2. restart X session
  3. start firefox
  4. start from terminal: firefox http://www.ubuntu.com

  Result: see crash.

Verify: with updated package it shouldnt crash.
