[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734500] [NEW] Ubuntu Web Browser content upside down on rotated screen

2017-11-25 Thread James Waldby
Public bug reported:

I use two monitors, a Plain Tree 22" on the left and a Goldstar 29" on
the right. The Plain Tree is physically rotated 90 degrees
counterclockwise and the Goldstar is not rotated.

In Settings - Displays, the Goldstar 29" has Rotation set to Normal, and
content displays ok in normal right side up fashion.

In Settings - Displays, the Plain Tree has Rotation set to Clockwise
because that causes most content to display ok and right side up.

For example, Firefox Web Browser windows display their content right
side up on both monitors.

However, while window title bar text is upright for Ubuntu Web Browser
windows on the Plain Tree, the window content is upside down. When I
drag that window to the Goldstar the content flips over and displays
correctly.

I don't know the version number of webbrowser-app, or if it's relevant.
Clicking on the Amazon icon on the launcher brought up an Amazon page in a
frame labeled Ubuntu Web Browser which according to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WebBrowsers is webbrowser-app . Anyhow,
webbrowser-app directory info is:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 710984 Dec 20 2016 /usr/bin/webbrowser-app

Summary: On this system, Ubuntu Web Browser page rotation is 180 degrees
different from page rotation in other programs.

I was wrong about my solution. It seemed to be working. Was watching
video for 45 minutes no problem. Now it is recurring. Sorry.

I am going to try anti-ego's solution. Thanks.

Bug description:
In 16.04 when a bluetooth audio device is connected it freezes video
playback and also no sound comes from online audio only streams. Issue
does not exist with a wired headset.

This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed
on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue.

It is not browser specific and not website specific.

It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260
card and my pc with an intel 8260 card.

The issue exists on both ubuntu and kubuntu 16.04.

I have reported it on the ubuntu support forums and after
investigation a moderator noticed changed in the kernel from 4.4 and
4.2 that may becausing the issue and asked me to file a bug report.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-11-25 Thread anti-ego
Im sure screwing around with fine tuning /etc/default/tlp might yield a
more clarified cause of issue. however I'm happy to disable tlp
completely in the meantime. I might look at this later when I have more
time to screw with options.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-11-25 Thread anti-ego
Hi All,

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10
Codename: artful

Spent a few hours trying to resolve the issue; I managed to resolve it by doing
the following.

ls /etc/ | grep *blue*

if bluetooth folder exists then change IdleTimeout on input.conf to value 0 as
seen below:
# Set idle timeout (in minutes) before the connection will
# be disconnect (defaults to 0 for no timeout)
IdleTimeout=0

if bluetooth dir does not exist under /etc then execute:
apt get install tlp

I also disabled TLP (power management) by editing /etc/default/tlp ,
example of change in file below:

# Set to 0 to disable, 1 to enable TLP.
TLP_ENABLE=0

I restarted both Network-manager and bluetooth by executing:
systemctl restart network-manager bluetooth

I of course am under the opinion that running the these two commands resolved
the issue:
sudo apt get install tlp #installed tlp
and editing the tlp conf file under /etc/default/ and turning it off.

Let me know what the issue is a result of; it will be interesting to
know root cause or how power management might be affecting bluetooth.

Commenting out the sync command in the generate_initramfs function of

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1688022] Re: text randomly scatters in documents, letters are vanishing or appearing in many separate lines

2017-11-25 Thread Adolfo Jayme
Why do you think this is a bug in the fonts and not in the application
you’re using?

** No longer affects: ubuntu-font-family-sources (Ubuntu)

Title:
text randomly scatters in documents, letters are vanishing or
  appearing in many separate lines

Status in Ubuntu Font Family:
  New

Bug description:
You newer know when your document or template created using ubuntu family
fonts will crash.
You can save a flawless document and after reopening it within minutes it's
crashed. The text is scattered around and you can make it useful again only by
changing the size of the font and/or changing font into anything outside the
ubuntu family. Sometimes after you change fonts like that and then change the
font back to ubuntu everything is ok.
Sometimes the problem can be temporarily solved by logging out from Windows
user account/ ubuntu session. But that's not always true. Sometimes when a
document is scattered in Open Office - opening it in Libre office shows
perfect, flawless document.
It's affecting both: Libre and Open Office programs on both: Windows (XP,
Vista,7, 10) and Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS as well as Mint and
Xubuntu). It's a problem when creating, editing and reading a file but also
when printing it.
The problem occurs when text is scattered - then the printout will be
affected as well. When file looks ok - print will be fine. Used printers: HP
laser and ink printers and OKI laser printers.

It would be nice to be sure how your document will look like in a moment.
There are days and weeks without a single error. But then again there are days
you can't work because documents simply won't come up without errors.
This is the one and only font that makes things like that. I would really
like to avoid changing it to another one as I use it in many work related tasks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734424] Re: Mouse cursor jumps to top of screen when moved

2017-11-25 Thread einar.kristian
Issue solved. I have really no clue to why. I switched to xubuntu, no
change. I tried to switch off either monitor, no change. I checked all
usb plugs, no change. I moved the mouse transmitter to another port, and
then it all worked. I put it back into the old port, everything works.
Lets see a few days, it may have been electrical contact.

Creating this bug report has been a challenge. Every time I move the
cursor, it jumps back to the top of the screen, slightly to the right.
So I repeat and repeat and repeat until I get a hit on what I need to
  do.

I have tried to purge nvidia, use nouveau, different versions of
nvidia, purged xorg, tried ubuntu instead of lubuntu, nothing improves
  the mouse issue.

It all started after an update a few days ago. The mouse has been
working perfectly until then. I have tried different mouse types,
replaced batteries. Nothing works. So now I am stuck with a computer

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734477] [NEW] LubuntuNext 17.10 - When not run from terminal, fails upon "Install"

2017-11-25 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Lubuntu Next 17.10.

I have been using Flashpeak-SlimJet as a browser, but it is not in the
repositories,
so I download the .deb file and use gdebi to install it.

The version of gdebi that Lubuntu Next installs is gdebi-kde, presumably
because LN uses Qt.

However, as described at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1731803
gdebi-kde is not usable, and since I needed to install a .deb,
I installed the gtk version, gebi.

That seems to work, until one clicks on "Install", whereupon the window
disappears
with no message, never to return...

When run from terminal, the window disappears, but another appears.
This one asks for my password, and when provided one, runs to completion,
installing the package.
(I did run it without terminal, and looked amongst my other desktops, thinking
that perhaps the
password window was there, but displayed in the wrong desktop, but found
nothing.)

It is possible that adding "sudo " to the .desktop file "Exec" would
solve the standalone menu invocation, but I am not sure that would help
when using the right-click context menu from the desired .deb (and if
not, how one would fix that (surely more common) situation).

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * networkd fails to renew a lease, specifically it fails to change IPv4
address via DHCP renew/rebind.
   * networkd relies on a kernel feature to promote secondary IPv4 address to
primary, upon primary address lease expiry.
   * this sysctl tunable was not enabled by default in systemd.

  [Test Case]

Add a device, and assign two IPv4 addresses. First one, with a short
lease time. Second one, with a different ip and a longer lease time.
Second one should be treated as secondary ip address, and upon expiry
of the first one, should be promoted and become primary ip address.
The below scripted instructions simulate this:

sudo ip link add name testleases type dummy

sudo ip address add 192.0.2.10/27 dev testleases \
    valid_lft 5 preferred_lft 5

sudo ip address add 192.0.2.11/27 dev testleases \
    valid_lft 11 preferred_lft 11

ip address list dev testleases | \
grep -q 'inet 192.0.2.10/27 scope global dynamic testleases' \
&& echo ok || echo not ok

ip address list dev testleases | \
grep -q 'inet 192.0.2.11/27 scope global secondary dynamic testleases' \
&& echo ok || echo not ok

  sleep 6

ip address list dev testleases | \
grep -q 'inet 192.0.2.11/27 scope global dynamic testleases' \
&& echo ok || echo not ok

sudo ip link del dev testleases

  [Regression Potential]

   * This changes the default kernel behaviour, previously upon expiry
of the primary address, secondary addresses were removed as well.
  Which is imho silly.

  * comparing networkd renewal with isc-dhcp renewal the semantics are
quite different. Upon acquiring new ip address, isc-dhcp would
instantly flush existing ip address, and add a new one. Networkd add
the new address as secondary, and waits for old one to expire first
before promoting / switching to using the new ip address. IMHO kernel
should have an API to promote secondary ip address to a primary one.

  * This update also applies other safe-looking options, which are
currently also already applied via sysctls shipped in other packages

  # Source route verification
  net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1
  net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1

  # Do not accept source routing
  net.ipv4.conf.default.accept_source_route = 0
  net.ipv4.conf.all.accept_source_route = 0

  # Enable hard and soft link protection
  fs.protected_hardlinks = 1
  fs.protected_symlinks = 1

  * This update also applies the following upstream/bufferbloat.net
  recommended setting

  # Fair Queue CoDel packet scheduler to fight bufferbloat
  net.core.default_qdisc = fq_codel

  * [~racb] There are complex network setups out there, such as HA with
corosync/pacemaker, OpenStack Neutron, and that kind of thing. If this
fix were SRU'd, will all of these things in the wild cope with this
  sysctl change?

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug report

  Hi there,
we found a replicable issue that involves the Ubuntu Core networking and
causes complete loss of connectivity.
We run a custom board with ubuntu core: the architecure is amrhf.
We replicated this issue with an official Ubuntu Core image on a Raspberry
Pi: other platform was been tested.
It shows that it is a snap core problem which interests networkd: we use the
default network stack based on networkd + netplan.

Below steps to replicate the issue.

1)Setup a dhcp server for lease of about some minutes (i.e 10 minutes).
2)Boot the board and wait for get an ip from dhcp server
3)Before the lease expires, set a reservation for a different ip address

Depending on lease duration before the lease expires( for 10 minute we have 2
minutes before ), networkd configure the new address in addition to the
previous one.
When the lease expire both ip address ( the prevoius and the new one )
disappear from the interested network interface.
Depending on lease duration before the second lease expires ( for 10 minure
we have 2 minutes before ) networkd configure only the new ip address on the
network interface and the ping toward an outside host work properly.

During the test the dhcp server records correctly leases and their
  duration.

We check directly from console the network interface setting with the
tool ip, checking continuously the value for ip address and valid_lft
fields for the interested network interface.

  Please note that if

I've been experiencing this freeze ever since I got the Sapphire Nitro+

occasionally also when using Thunderbird or Firefox normally.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while

2017-11-25 Thread Paul Brodersen
XPS 15 9560, linux kernel 4.10.0-38-generic, Ubuntu 17.04

After trying everything in this thread (and failing) I finally got my
sound back on my headphones.

1) Install:
sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

2) Launch:
hdajackretask

3) Check 'Show unconnected pins'

4) Check "override" on 0x21.

5) Apply; test sound.

6) If everything all is good now, press "install boot override"

[XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a
  while

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm experiencing a strange behavior with a headphone jack on my
  laptop.

I have an external audio speaker connected to it. When I disconnect the
speaker and reconnect it again it stops working.
Even more, laptop audio stops working too. And after the reboot, I don't even
see any of the audio devices.

I've googled a lot and tried different fixes from forums with no luck.
After a while, I've accidentally discovered that putting the laptop to
the sleep mode and rebooting system after brings audio back to live.
Even more, if speakers were attached during this sleep-reboot
procedure, they are starting to work as well.

However, after the next reboot speakers are not working again. And if
I will plug them out and in - problem with completely missing audio
  returns.

P.S. I'm using laptop-mode-tools package on my laptop. Recovery after
hibernation made me believe that it's somehow related. But after
uninstalling this package nothing really changed.

Is this due to a bug or missing translations?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734447] [NEW] BN_cmp regards negative and positive zero as different numbers

2017-11-25 Thread Guido
Public bug reported:

"BN_cmp() returns -1 if a < b, 0 if a == b and 1 if a > b." (
https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/Manual:BN_cmp(3) )

The libcrypto.a shipped with Ubuntu makes a distinction between a
negative 0 ("-0") and a positive zero ("0"). This means that BN_cmp(-0,
0) returns -1 and BN_cmp(0, -0) returns 1. The latest versions of
OpenSSL (1.0.2m and 1.1.0g) both return 0 for both comparisons, which is
what you would expect.

lsb_release -rd:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

Tested on both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of this Ubuntu release.

Attached is a proof of concept.

The anomaly may also be caused by BN_dec2bn rather than BN_cmp.

The bug is unlikely to have direct security consequences, but may cause
unexpected behaviour in other applications that depend on this
widespread library.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1684755] Re: Missing dependency to libtxc-dxtn-s2tc:amd64

2017-11-25 Thread Giacomo Orlandi
I was stung by this using the Mesa driver.
I concur that it should be a dependency of libgl1-mesa-dri instead of
recommended, unless there is some downside to it that I can't see. I'm not a 3d
drivers expert.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1689555] Re: Scrolling + "Terminal bell" crashes pulseaudio

2017-11-25 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Filed VTE feature request to rate limit the bell:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790815.

That being said, a pulseaudio crash is a pulseaudio crash which should
be fixed in pulseaudio.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734424] [NEW] Mouse cursor jumps to top of screen when moved

2017-11-25 Thread einar.kristian
Public bug reported:

Creating this bug report has been a challenge. Every time I move the
cursor, it jumps back to the top of the screen, slightly to the right.
So I repeat and repeat and repeat until I get a hit on what I need to
do.

I have tried to purge nvidia, use nouveau, different versions of nvidia,
purged xorg, tried ubuntu instead of lubuntu, nothing improves the mouse
issue.

It all started after an update a few days ago. The mouse has been
working perfectly until then. I have tried different mouse types,
replaced batteries. Nothing works. So now I am stuck with a computer
that does not work.
