Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1780510] Re: pulseaudio does not resume playback via built in speakers, despite rebooting ubuntu

2018-07-08 Thread sn0m
Hi

I was playing an mkv file in vlc on my tv screen through a HDMI cable
connected to my laptopt that runs ubuntu 18.04.

Sound was also playing on TV speakers via the HDMI cable as well.

I disconnected the HDMI cable and found out that sound would not reverse
back to laptop built in speakers.

I rebooted the laptop and the problem persisted.

I therefore connected earplugs to it and than I was able to switch back
to built in speakers.

There is a bug with pulseaudio? I think that is causing all this
trouble.

Regards

Koli

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780677] Re: X session crash after resuming from suspend

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

Title:
X session crash after resuming from suspend

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

  xorg:
Installed: 1:7.7+19ubuntu7

First I suspended my laptop, while a few applications were running
(Firefox, Chrome and some others much smaller). A couple of hours
later, I opened the lid and expected the Gnome session would resume.

What happened instead was a crash of the X server, then the login page
was shown again and a new Gnome session started: the old session got
  killed!

In the Xorg.0.log.old file I found this, not sure if related:

  [ 21189.337] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Deleting GPU-0
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Input/output error
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Input/output error
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Input/output error
[ 21189.338] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Bug description:
I am using Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS. Since the original release two years
ago it was working absolutely fine on a variety of machines. Now, on
this particular machine I have two monitors:

  1. Dell 24" 1200x1920 (portrait) connected via D-SUB/VGA port
  2. AOC 28" 1920x1080 (landscape) connected via DVI-D

I have made an upgrade today and the following packages were upgraded:

  https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/5cf8hq6JQK/

Note that the list includes mesa libraries and xserver-xorg* packages
  which are most suspect.

  Here is my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

  https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/tB6yGhDT2S/

Here is the output of "sudo lspci -vvx":

  https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/VVctSFwFSm/

As you can see, there is nothing special about this machine: a pretty
vanilla desktop with i5-3570K cpus (NOT overclocked!) and 16GB RAM.
Oh, I forgot to say what actually happens and why the system is
unusable: even if I create a single gnome-terminal window (say on the
Dell monitor) after a couple of seconds (of typing in the terminal)
large size rectangles appear on the other monitor. And if I start
Chrome (on a monitor different from the one gnome-terminal is running
on) then bits of the terminal sometimes appear on one of Chrome's tabs
and vice versa, i.e. bits (rectangular shape) of Chrome's tabs appear
on the terminal. Sometimes the content of the terminal gets corrupted.
And all this happens reasonably quickly (on the order of 5-10
seconds), which means you can't do any work at all. Also, creating
other windows (I started pavucontrol in the background) makes the mess
even worse, i.e. they all keep overwriting each other's rendering
  context.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780439] Re: Dual Monitor not detect on VGA

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
According to your Xrandr.txt your machine doesn't have a VGA port. It
only has a built-in LCD, HDMI and/or DisplayPort.

So please explain in more detail what the problem is. Do you mean you
have plugged in a monitor and it's not working? If so then please plug
it in again, run 'xrandr' in a terminal while it's plugged in and send
us the output:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride)

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the patch, but again that's only a workaround. We would like
to aim for a fix instead, but if it's an uncommon chipset then that may
take a long time...

Please provide a full listing of 'lspci -k' and then we can do the right
thing and log an upstream bug. After that's done it will be fine to just
patch in a workaround.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1779905] Re: Missing pulseaudio-module-jack files, cannot load module

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We can keep this bug ID but you'll need to reword the bug title and
description to encompass the actual problem. The initial problem you
reported is invalid - that was the jack module not working. Because the
jack module wasn't installed.

Please reword the bug title and description however you like, and when
done set the bug status back to 'New'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

Hi,

I have confirmed that the Bionic package works on the cloud service
where the bug was originally observed. With this package, the affected
migrations now succeed.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

I expect this to cause the device with that MAC address to be renamed
to myiface3. However, when I reboot, I instead see:

  $ ip l
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:c1:c9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The device is not renamed.

This link file is pretty much identical to Example 2 in
  https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.link.html.

The renaming does work if I boot with net.ifnames=0, and oddly, it
also works if I unbind the device and rebind it as netplan apply does.
No setting of NamePolicy seems to help.

  === Original Bug ==

'set-name:' doesn't change the name of a network interface on boot, it
only works when you do netplan apply.

Say I take this 50-cloud-init.yaml file:

  # This file is generated from information provided by
  # the datasource. Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
  # To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
  # /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
  # network: {config: disabled}
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: ens3

Say I change set-name to 'myiface3' and reboot. I expect that the
device will be called myiface3 and brought up fine with dhcp. However,
  instead I see:

  $ ip a
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

The name has not been changed, and the device has not been brought up.

If I run netplan apply however, I see the following:

1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  3: myiface3: mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state
UP group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  inet6 fe80::5054:ff:fede:bdf6/64 scope link
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

So names are successfully changed with netplan apply.

This seems to be some udev-related timing or

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel Axtens
Hi,

I can verify correct behaviour with renaming, static IPs and DHCP with
KVM. I'm about to check some cloud services as well.

Nicorac, are you claiming this is a regression or just an incomplete
fix?

If it's just an incomplete fix, I think we should spin that out into
another bug and fix it after this SRU goes through.

Regards,
Daniel

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1718931] Re: No VPN autoconnect

2018-07-08 Thread Nicholas Stommel
Well...it has been quite some time and this bug has received absolutely
*zero* attention from the Gnome Shell Gitlab here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/123 escalated from the
Gnome Bugzilla tracker after Gnome shell development moved to Gitlab.
The issue is fully present in Ubuntu 18.04 AND in the newer version of
the Gnome shell and NetworkManager in Fedora 28. Before v3.26.X, auto-
connect worked fine through the NetworkManager in the Gnome environment.
I'm afraid to report that months later, absolutely nothing has been done
to address what should be a relatively high-priority bug in the Gnome
Shell. If anyone has the capabilities to reach out farther than I
already have, please do so. This critical bug has been sitting idle with
no attention for months, and persists across newer versions of the Gnome
shell, namely 3.28.X, seemingly independent of distribution.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Systems relying on renaming network interfaces at boot and when 'netplan
apply' is run.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

I expect this to cause the device with that MAC address to be renamed
to myiface3. However, when I reboot, I instead see:

  $ ip l
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:c1:c9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The device is not renamed.

This link file is pretty much identical to Example 2 in
  https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.link.html.

The renaming does work if I boot with net.ifnames=0, and oddly, it
also works if I unbind the device and rebind it as netplan apply does.
No setting of NamePolicy seems to help.

  === Original Bug ==

  # network: {config: disabled}
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: ens3

Say I change set-name to 'myiface3' and reboot. I expect that the
device will be called myiface3 and brought up fine with dhcp. However,
  instead I see:

  $ ip a
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

The name has not been changed, and the device has not been brought up.

If I run netplan apply however, I see the following:

1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  3: myiface3: mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state
UP group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.122.151/24 brd 192.168.122.255 scope global dynamic myiface3
     valid_lft 3575sec preferred_lft 3575sec
  inet6 fe80::5054:ff:fede:bdf6/64 scope link
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

So names are successfully changed with netplan apply.

This seems to be some udev-related timing or priority issue that I'm
  still trying to hunt down.

This breaks some forms of migration in certain

Ubuntu 14.04 over a year using with all updates worked great, then the
  Libre Office Writer went fooey,several re-installs,fixed.Then, I

Then Firefox sync caused me a lot of grief when I installed it on
two win10 desktops with Sync Not syncing now tho.

I swapped the mouse, which doesn't want to function well. Got firefox
straight maybe, then Ubuntu started hanging on restart or shut down. I
tried running a boot repair, it said my registry was missing. I tried
for a clean install, but I think all it did was add a copy. No
  reinstall would shut down.Tried a different version,same problem. I
have an att router & have been installing updates et al, on 2 other
desktops. As soon as I get a Win 10 going, something seems to stop
working on Ubuntu. I prefer Ubuntu for multiple reasons. Win 10 seems
to be a barebones with a big buynow catalog or surf the win10 web.
However, it has a working Sound recorder, & AIO dell usb XP
  printer,fax etc.

Also, I have a Nook reader with lots of apps I don't use. I've
started using the OverDrive only app, as the google library
chromeconnection kept me confused. added new windows, froze books, etc.
It is wifi which I leave on continuously.

I just learned Sudo init O. Used it one time. Worked fine. These
"bugs" seem to be attempts to wreak havoc, I have copies of my
files/photos on DVD, which I download to desktop when I re-install.

So sorry. I break things worse trying to repair them many times, but
I'm experienced at starting over, just don't like to. I am trying to
avoid wiping the hd, reformatting, etc. Very time consuming for a
little old lady pushing 70. Time is precious, but so is money, lol, so
I do it myself. This bug reequest popped up, so maybe you can connect
something from others with similar occurances.

Shouldn’t there be an automated check for this?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780677] [NEW] X session crash after resuming from suspend

2018-07-08 Thread giacof
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04

xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.7+19ubuntu7

First I suspended my laptop, while a few applications were running
(Firefox, Chrome and some others much smaller). A couple of hours later,
I opened the lid and expected the Gnome session would resume.

What happened instead was a crash of the X server, then the login page
was shown again and a new Gnome session started: the old session got
killed!

In the Xorg.0.log.old file I found this, not sure if related:

[ 21189.337] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Deleting GPU-0

[ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Input/output error

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780664] [NEW] Recent libgl-mesa graphics update prevents drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu icon

2018-07-08 Thread Curtis Gedak
Public bug reported:

PROBLEM

Recent libgl-mesa 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 graphics update prevents
drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu
icon.

After recently applying updates, left clicking on some application
menus and icons no longer displays a drop-down menu list.

For example in Firefox when I left-click on the **three line/bar**
icon in the upper right-hand corner, the normal drop down list menu
does not display. Also the menu drop down doesn't display in
keypassx. Further xchat-gnome doesn't even display a window.

Another anomaly is that my KDE bottom menu bar changed to a dark
theme.

BACKGROUND

I'm using Kubuntu 16.04 on an Intel i7-7700k computer with Intel HD
Graphics. I have KDE **System Settings -> Compositor** enabled with:

   Scale method :Accurate
   Rendering backend: OpenGL 3.1
   OpenGL interface: GLX
Tearing prevention ("vsync"): Full screen repaints
Keep window thumbnails:Only for Shown Windows

INVESTIGATION

After several hours of searching the Internet I found one other case
of a similar problem.

   Firefox's Menu Bar won't open
   https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1194760

The reported solution was to rollback the graphics drivers.

Because the issues cropped up after applying updates on July 6, 2018,
I tracked down the list of recent updates with:

   grep -A 2 'Start-Date: 2018-07-06' /var/log/apt/history.log | tail -1
>packages.txt

After some editing to place packages on separate lines, and
identifying the grahics libraries, I arrived at the following list:

libgles2-mesa:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)
libglapi-mesa:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)

libosmesa6:i386 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)
libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)

--

To revert to the prior graphic drivers I tracked down the '.deb'
packages for each of the above packages and downloaded the
'17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1' version.

For example:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/amd64/libxatracker2/17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1

I also discovered that some of these depended on
libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1 so I also downloaded the following files:

  libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_amd64.deb
  libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_i386.deb

WORKAROUND (ROLLBACK TO PRIOR VERSION)

Install older versions with:

sudo dpkg -i \
  libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libllvm5.0_5.0-3~16.04.1_i386.deb \
  libegl1-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libgbm1_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libgl1-mesa-dri_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libgl1-mesa-dri_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_i386.deb \
  libgl1-mesa-glx_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libgl1-mesa-glx_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_i386.deb \
  libglapi-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libglapi-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_i386.deb \
  libgles2-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libosmesa6_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libosmesa6_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_i386.deb \
  libwayland-egl1-mesa_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  libxatracker2_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb \
  mesa-vdpau-drivers_17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1_amd64.deb

After rebooting, all the issues disappeared.

For example I was once again able to left-click on the Firefox **three
line/bar** menu and view the drop down list menu. Also the KDE bottom
menu bar retured to the normal "breeze" light grey colour.

2018-07-08 Thread gf
Hello Jeremy,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with icons and UOA.
You made this bug report in 2013 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu
since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 1194176
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Allow service icons at service level, not just application level

Status in gnome-control-center-signon package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  evolution-data-server-uoa 3.8.3-0ubuntu4 provides several different
services and a single icon isn't sufficient to represent all of them.
They don't want to use the evolution icon since EDS is more than just
Evolution (it's also used by Thunderbird, GNOME Contacts, etc.). This
  was discussed at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/701964

  Services provided by eds-uoa
  ---
  google-calendar.service
  google-contacts.service
  google-gmail.service
  yahoo-calendar.service
  yahoo-mail.service

Currently, it appears that UOA only looks at the .desktop for an icon but
evolution-data-server-uoa.desktop doesn't have an icon. However,
/usr/share/accounts/services/google-calendar.service sets calendar
  /usr/share/accounts/service_types/calendar.service-type sets
x-office-calendar

I believe the current behavior for settings the service icon is something
like:
  1. Use the .desktop icon
  2. If not set, don't show an icon at all. This makes the eds services look
out of place.

  Suggested improved behavior
  1. Use an icon in the /services/*.service
  2. If not set, fallback to the .desktop icon
  3. If not set, fallback to the icon set by the corresponding
service_types/*.service_type
  4. Set a generic icon

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1749728] Re: Installing packages fails when launched via Firefox ("open with")

2018-07-08 Thread William Geiger
I finally got around to tracking down this problem it seems to be a
mimeinfo.cache issue.

If the reader is not familiar mimeinfo is part of the freedesktop and
contains all the mime types and their program associations.

for deb packages the primary mime type (called media types now because
why not } is:

application/vnd.debian.binary-package

with 2 depreciated alternates:

application/x-deb
application/x-debian-package

this is documented @ https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-
types/application/vnd.debian.binary-package

the entire mime list is @ http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/

these definitions are combined with default applications and put into
defaults.list file(s). On my system I have several . They are
located @:

/etc/g/etc/xfce4/defaults.list
nome/defaults.list
/usr/share/applications/defaults.list
/usr/share/xfce4/applications/defaults.list
/usr/share/xubuntu/applications/defaults.list

now I am not 100% but I believe that the mimeinfo.cache file is created
from the default.list (God only knows which one) and updated every time
a program/package is installed. This is all part of the Freedesktop/xdg
stuff and you can read the docs/specs @ their website.

On my system I have 2 of these files:

/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
/home/johndoe/.local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

to "fix" the problem with launching gdebi from the Thunar context menu
(right mouse menu) I edited the /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
file so the only app association with the deb packages was gdebi.desktop
(and of course there are multiple of these on my system ):

application/vnd.debian.binary-package=gdebi.desktop;
application/x-deb=gdebi.desktop;
application/x-debian-package;

I also modified my in the same manner but it seems that the file in
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache is the critical one for Thunar,

To get Gdebi to work from the opera downloads via open downloaded .deb
file I had to add the mime associations to
/home/johndoe/.config/mimeapps.list (yea! another MIME file)

Now there is yet another MIME file /usr/share/mime/mime.cache which is a
binary file. It can be updated via the command:

$ sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime/

I don't know who or what uses it but I am at the tail end of an all-
nighter hunting down this bug so I updated it.

There is one more file that should be looked at:

/usr/share/application-registry/gdebi.applications

the last line in the file is:

mime_types=application/x-deb

I changed it to:

mime_types=application/x-deb;application/vnd.debian.binary-
package;application/x-debian-package;

not sure if it matters nor if it should be comma separated or semi-colon
separated perhaps the package maintainer can chime in.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. If you are reading this and NOT on an
xubuntu system you file locations may be different. use your favorite
file search utility (I use catfish) and look for "mimeinfo",
"defaults.list", "mime", and "gdebi"

harfbuzz 1.8.2-2 has been synced from Debian to Ubuntu Cosmic (will

I have three sources of sound output: Laptop speakers, USB headphones,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703479] Re: Ubuntu 17.04 & Kubuntu 17.04 LiveCD writes to bios/hardware clock; thereby messing up my installed Windows 10 Pro laptop time

  Ubuntu 17.04 & Kubuntu 17.04 LiveCD writes to bios/hardware clock;

Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I created Live USB thumb drives of Ubuntu & Kubuntu 17.04 and when I
went to try them out, all was fine because the clock displayed in
Ubuntu & Kubuntu was correct. I had assumed that Ubuntu & Kubuntu OS
would assume that it was forbidden to alter the bios/hardware clock
because that would defeat the entire purpose of a Live environment.

I had assumed that the two Linux OS would perform a check to see if
the bios/hardware clock was set to UTC. If the bios/hardware clock
was set to UTC then great. Still the Live OS should not touch the
bios clock with out permission. The two Linux OS should via a dialog
box ask the user if the clock can be changed via ntpdate or ntp and a
warning that doing so will likely alter the time to an incorrect time
  in Windows.

If the bios/hardware clock is found to be non-UTC then the two Linux
OS should simply display that time and not use ntpdate or ntp. At
this point if the user wishes to correct the time in the two Linux OS,
The two Linux OS should warn the user that giving the two Linux OS
permission to change the time will mess up Windows.

In an Live environment the bios/hardware clock should never be written
to, instead only read from and the time simply be an accurate
reflection of the bios/hardware clock. Any writing to the
bios/hardware clock should first be prompted by a permission dialog
box and it should display a warning that altering the clock in Ubuntu
& Kubuntu will most likely mess up the time in Windows.

Upon shutdown of the Live session the Ubuntu & Kubuntu should offer to
restore the bios/hardware clock to what it was when first booting the
  Live session.

Inaccurate time in Windows has no doubt it's fair share of problems.
Accurate time is important and accurate ticking is even more
important. The bios/hardware clock should never be written to without
  user permission.

User permission on Linux is granted by installing ntpdate or ntp and
possibly the editing of config files. This can also be done during
the install process where you choose your timezone and tick the option
  to update time via Internet.

User permission on Windows is done during install time as well as post
install fiddling with the time and date settings in Windows.

Both Linux and Windows fail in warning user about changing
  bios/hardware clock.

Please do not write to the bios/hardware clock without user permission
and please display a warning that doing so may adversely affect other
  operating systems.

I fully expect no surprises when I am done with the live session and I
  boot back into Windows.

Maybe it's my fault, maybe I changed the clock in the Live session.
But and But I was never warned that changing the time display in
Ubuntu & Kubuntu was changing the bios/hardware clock and that my
Windows OS was all screwed up time wise.

This is my first Windows computer since I switched to Linux in 1996,
so maybe I am simply uneducated in how time works in Windows. I use
UTC on all my Linux machines. It's so much easier to use local time
  on Windows.

  I'm happy to help debug.

Sorry, I forgot this: Is there a boot option I can set to change this
behavior? Either to use local-time in HW clock or simply prevent writing
to HW clock in live mode?

2018-07-08 Thread David Balažic
This also happens with 18.04.

 - have hw clock on local time (other timezone than UTC+0)
 - have a working ethernet connection (DHCP, with internet connection)
 - boot ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso from a DVD (boy, does it takes it's
time...)
 - optionally reboot into Windows
 - check time: it is set to UTC in HW clock, which means wrong clock in Windows

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

2018-07-08 Thread Nicorac
Partially working here on fully updated Ubuntu 18.04 Server on
VirtualBox :(

I've enabled -proposed repo and updated both nplan/bionic-proposed and
netplan.ion/bionic-proposed packages.

Now interfaces got renamed, but IPs are not assigned at boot (both DHCP and
static ones).
Calling "netplan generate && netplan apply" after boot only sets the static IPs
while DHCP still remains unset.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Systems relying on renaming network interfaces at boot and when 'netplan
apply' is run.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

I expect this to cause the device with that

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780606] [NEW] NetworkManager not able to manage WWAN devices in 18.04 server

2018-07-08 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Public bug reported:

Installed a 18.04 server image, and installed NetworkManager.

NetworkManager comes with a "/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-
managed-devices.conf" file where it speciefies that all devices are by
default unmanaged except for types "wifi" and "wwan".

Now, the problem is that the filter should apply to "gsm" or "cdma"
types, not "wwan".

E.g.:
  [keyfile]
  unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:gsm,except:type:cdma

Before the change:
$ nmcli d
DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
wlan0 wifi connected Bumbu
eth0 ethernet unmanaged --
cdc-wdm0 gsm unmanaged --
loloopback unmanaged --

After the change:
$ nmcli d
DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
wlan0 wifi connected Bumbu
cdc-wdm0 gsm connected cell
eth0 ethernet unmanaged --
loloopback unmanaged --

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

Title:
at-spi-bus-launcher makes Xorg crash when resuming from suspend

Status in at-spi2-core package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If at-spi2-core is installed, when resuming from suspend messages like
these are logged in systemd journal:

at-spi-bus-launcher[31720]: XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily
unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
  at-spi-bus-launcher[31720]: after 8065 requests (8065 known processed)
with 0 events remaining.

The number of requests vary, it can reach more than 15000. Depending
on the number of requests, the Xorg server crashes with SIGBUS.
Depending on the exact moment Xorg crashes, when lightdm manages to
recover, it shows a login greeter, or worst case scenario, it can't
recover, a black screen is shown and the desptop session doesn't
  start.

It took me a long time to discover the cause. The visible symptom was:
once in a while when resuming from suspend, I got a login greeter
instead of an unlock greeter, or a black screen which forced me to
power down. Investigating, I found out that whenever that happened,
there was a Xorg core left behind. Looking at the journal messages
before the crash, there was always that flood of at-spi2-core
requests. So I uninstalled at-spi2-core and Xorg never crashed
  anymore.

This is a quite severe bug, which makes it impossible to use at-
  spi2-core.

Title:
Automatic logout when resuming from suspend on Xubuntu 18.04

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When my Xubuntu 18.04 laptop resumes from suspend, systemd-logind
automatically logs out of the current session if the laptop has stayed
suspended for more than a couple of hours. If the interval between
suspend and resume is short, it doesn't log out. I still haven't
discovered how long this interval has to be in order to cause the
  logout.

I enabled debug on the systemd-logind.service, creating file
  _/etc/systemd/system/systemd-logind.service.d/10-debug.conf_:

  [Service]
  Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

which causes systemd-logind to log all D-Bus messages it handles, but
couldn't spot anything that might have caused the logout.

I scanned all systemd journal messages (`journalctl`) before systemd-
logind starts killing the current session, investigated all that
looked suspicious but couldn't find anything that might influence an
automatic logout. Here are some of the messages that striked me as
suspicious (they are not sequential, but pulled from different
  occasions):
