[Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2

2018-09-19 Thread Erno Kuusela
This is definitely a new regression for me in 18.04, I didn't suffer from it
before. Judging by the large numbers of new comments from 18.04 users, this is
likely the case for others as well.
Is there some way to signal this in the bug flags/metadata?

(I tried to report a new 18.04 specific bug but it was marked a
duplicate to this 2015 bug)

Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2

Status in console-cyrillic package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in console-setup package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm running Ubuntu Lucid development branch.

Pressing alt-f2 switches the screen to the second virtual terminal.
Alt-f3 does the same to the third and so on. I expected alt-f2 to open
  the run dialog.

I'm pretty sure that my keyboard is not malfunctioning as I can use
all my applications normally. (Pressing O and Ctrl-O do not have the
  same effect.)

I'm not sure which package I should file this bug against. I'll
happily do an apport-collect once I know.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1793410] [NEW] [Acer Swift SF315-52, Realtek ALC256, Mic, Internal] Internal microphone not working

2018-09-19 Thread James Pollock
Public bug reported:

Recently bought a new Acer Swift 3 laptop and installed Ubuntu 18.04 on
it. Everything works except the internal microphone. I have also tested
with an external microphone and this didn't work either.

I have worked my way through all the suggested solutions I could find,
including trying to reconfigure the pins using hdajacketask. In
pavucontrol I have options for Internal Microphone and Microphone
(unplugged) but the internal mic only captures static noise.

The latest HD-Audio Codec-Specific Models has configurations for
alc255-acer and alc256 for some other models, but setting options snd-
hda-intel model=MODEL in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf does not solve
the issue with any of these.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1793382] [NEW] Add aethercast support in AppArmor file

2018-09-19 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

Canonical modified the AppArmor policy in order to make authercast work:

https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/stable-phone-overlay/+files/isc-dhcp_4.3.1-5ubuntu2_4.3.1-5ubuntu2.4~overlay1.diff.gz
(only the first chunk of the patch is relevant to this issue)

This was added to the package we were using in the phone overlay PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/stable-
phone-overlay/+packages?batch=75=75=75

Now we need the same in Ubports, but it would be convenient if we added
this in Ubuntu, to reduce the delta.

 Importance: Undecided

Bug description:
It seems that the intent of /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is to
background itself, as it creates a subshell with &.

As reported in bug 1202758, this doesn't seem to work correctly. That
doesn't close the file descriptors. As a result, if something is
waiting on the output of 'ifup', it will sit and wait until ntpdate is
  finished.

  Example:
  $ time sudo sh -c 'o=$(sh -c "ifdown eth0 ; ifup eth0" 2>&1) ; echo $o'

If we change the way it detaches itself to close stdout, stdderr, and
  stdin, then we're fine.

I'm reporting this, but I'm not sure how much of a real problem it is. As if
th
e command sends stdin and stdout to /dev/null, then debugging its output
would b
  e more difficult.

  Example diff:
  $ diff -u /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate.dist /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate

Bug description:
  initramfs-tools 0.131ubuntu10 modified configure_networking to use
run_dhclient instead of ipconfig. configure_networking now fails to
configure networking in the initramfs because it now uses features not
  available in the initramfs.

  https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
  tools/commit/?id=a77729e9a69ff7af4911285c771d80e01b7addfe

run_dhclient calls dhclient which calls /sbin/dhclient-script.

  /sbin/dhclient-script calls 'chown --reference=$resolv_conf
$new_resolv_conf', but chown isn't available in initramfs
  /boot/initrd.img-4.18.0-7-generic.

  /sbin/dhclient-script also calls 'chmod --reference=$resolv_conf
$new_resolv_conf' but busybox chmod in the initramfs does not support
  the option --reference.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786574] Re: remove i2c-i801 from blacklist

2018-09-19 Thread AaronMa
Resume issue should be fixed by kernel driver or other WA than blacklist
a kernel module.

If the nc6000 issue is still happened on current kernel, please use the
following systemd script to fix it.

/lib/systemd/system-sleep/i2c-i801-reload.sh
#!/bin/sh

modprobe -r i2c-i801

i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1789502] Re: Update to 0.6.50

2018-09-19 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I have tested "my" parts of the pending upgrade (SetLanguage and
SetFormatsLocale) and found that the move of the
user_get_fallback_value() call to user_new() triggered a need to tweak
user_change_language_authorized_cb() and
user_change_formats_locale_authorized_cb() to prevent confusion. I'll
get back with a proposal.

I put it in a PPA for convenience for the case someone wants to test
other aspects of the new version.

   lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  Release: 18.04

In trying to upload .crash data for bug 1789962 "gnome-shell segfaults
in Wayland when display is turned off while Kodi running" I determined
that apport-cli and friends were never able to upload the .crash
files. The URL where they should appear is:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/39229ebea988d6578bed98d7e18bd96fd9cd523cf89495ed70d4ce4c0f8b7937667368f389be8d8b2588bafc31d1935109305b4abf52dbb724a7cf43c3b425b4

Earlier, I did upload the .crash files directly and was told by the
  defect reviewer that:

_usr_bin_Xwayland.1000.crash: Stack trace mostly unreadable (missing symbols)
  _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash: Stack trace is missing

You can see the other bug for details, here is the last comment that I added
(so far):

I deleted all entries in /var/crash and /var/lib/whoopsie.
  I recreated the problem

No entries since 08/11. None for wayland, gnome-shell or Kodi.
I checked for over 5 minutes.

So perhaps something is going bad on my end, but I just don't know
  what or how to debug.

  E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

  Impact:
Builds of minimized images start with an image that has the linux-kvm kernel
but lack initramfs-tools. Derivative builds that require a different kernel,
linux-generic for example, will purge the existing kernel and install the
correct kernel which could pull in linux-firmware and initramfs-tools. In that
case the builds fail unless initramfs-tools is installed prior to kernel
installation as a workaround for this missing package dependency.

This has been recreated on cosmic and bionic, a fix is desired on
each. (I was unable to recreate on Xenial but that package lacks the
  dependency as well).

2018-09-19 Thread Giovanni Bravin
Dear Mr. Klose,

I repeat my answer sent to Mr. Nummimen, yesterday and regarding the
same issue.

In the meantime I sent my pc for assistance and they had to change my
motherboard.

The tecnician installed Fedora 28 and I cannot give informations about
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS anymore.

By the way Python3 works on Fedora perfectly.

Thanks for your interest.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1793092] Re: [FFe] openssl 1.1.1

2018-09-19 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Big ACK from the security team. We would like to see this backported
into bionic at some point and having it in cosmic first would allow us
to identify and fix any issues.

Title:
  [FFe] openssl 1.1.1

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Merge openssl 1.1.1 from debian unstable.

OpenSSL 1.1.1 is now out, with TLS1.3 support, and is the new upstream
  LTS release.

  Preserving existing delta:
  - Replace duplicate files in the doc directory with symlinks.
  - debian/libssl1.1.postinst:
+ Display a system restart required notification on libssl1.1
  upgrade on servers.
+ Use a different priority for libssl1.1/restart-services depending
on whether a desktop, or server dist-upgrade is being performed.

With further changes to diverge from Debian to:
  - Revert "Enable system default config to enforce TLS1.2 as a
minimum" & "Increase default security level from 1 to 2".
  - Further decrease security level from 1 to 0, for compatibility with
openssl 1.0.2.

These mitigate most of the runtime incompatibilities, and ensure
  client<->server compatibility between 1.1.1, 1.1.0, and 1.0.2 series
and thus one can continue to mix & match xenial/bionic/cosmic
  releases.

  Proposed package is in https://launchpad.net/~xnox/+archive/ubuntu/openssl
with a rebuild of all the reverse dependencies. It demonstrates that openssl
compiled as above is more compatible and has less issues than debian config,
and has only a small fallout which is being analyzed right now.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786574] Re: remove i2c-i801 from blacklist

2018-09-19 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
first of all this package seems to have quite some issues in the merges that
are done - it doesn't list all remaining changes and the i2c blacklist is one
of them.
It comes from like back in 2005 and I agree, it might or is safe to be removed.

Thanks to Stefan Bader for cleaning this up, as the MP linked here has e.g. on
changelog entries.
I'd ack to his branch at [1] for Cosmic, is it would be an MP to ack on.

But for the actual sponsoring, as I never really touched kmod before I'd
be happy if you'd ask one of the foundations Team that is here this week
that touched it recently as they might have extra considerations. OTOH
the change really looks right for cosmic IMHO, so if no one responds get
back to me.

SRUs of this are quite a different topic for the following reasons:
- if the issues still exists, it might regress somebody due to the SRU then.
- If you can prove that the old issue really does no more exist with e.g. the
oldest kernel in Bionic, then it might be done. But you'd have to outline that
in detail when completing the SRU template for this bug [2]
Without the prove I'd be concerned and as a SRU member would reject it, so
really make sure you
get this documented right.

What makes an SRU even more likely (if there is a regression risk) is
that the fix for those affected would be a simple config change, so no
one "relies" on this being SRUed to get out of it.

[SRU] update-initramfs should sync only the filesystem containing the

Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic:

Status in initramfs-tools package in Debian:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
If there is lots of activity on a different filesystem, high io/cache
pressure, or a stale mount updating initramfs might hang because the
update-initramfs script calls sync. This leaves the system unresponsive and
will require the user to forcefully kill dpkg.

  [Test Case]
One easy way to simulate this is by copying a huge file over nfs. Note: do
not use localhost, it is too fast for this purpose, a network bridge over qemu
is good enough.

  1. Setup a nfs server and export a directory with write permissions
  for the client

  2. Copy a big file over NFS (assumes it is mounted at /mnt in the client)
  $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/big_zeros bs=512 count=1M status=progress
Note: adjust the "count" accordingly to how fast/slow your system is.

  3. Call sync and verify that it only finished after "dd" is done.

  4. Repeat step #2 and now call "sync -f /boot/".
  Verify that it finished immediatly.

  [Regression Potential]
Although syncfs(2) man page [2] states that it works just the same as sync -
except being limited to a filesystem -, any actual differences in the
implementation can affect how the initrd image file is synced to the disk,
leading to unexpected behavior.

  [Other]
If syncfs is unsupported then the 'sync' binary will ensure that a normal
system-wide sync is called [1]. The proposed patch won't help in scenarios
where the initrd file is located in a busy filesystem (eg. no separated /boot
partition).

The 'sync' and 'syncfs' specifications are pretty much similar and
syncfs is expected to work the same as a normal sync regarding data
integrity. Also altought the patch introduces the initrd file as an
extra argument which would cause 'sync -f' to fail if the file does
not exist, the update-initramfs script would fail earlier than that
because that file is created by the 'mv' call a few lines above. Thus
  no regressions are expected.

may also lead to an unbootable system.

This is likely an issue to do with having both python2.7 and 3.5 on

TL:DR Copy weakref.py from the 3.5 directory to the 2.7 directory and

Patched weakref.py uploaded to the above mentioned bug.

The root of the problem is likely either the QGIS 3.2 repo install or

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791324] Re: /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk:KeyError:/usr/share/apport/apport-gtk@598:run_argv:run_crashes:run_crash

2018-09-19 Thread Brian Murray
Hello errors.ubuntu.com, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apport into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/2.20.9-0ubuntu7.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

  [Impact]
   * The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem
regarding apport. This problem was most recently seen with package version

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/64f362ed27e5f6069d78b02c2cbca5c09fcc19ee
   * The theory is that those crashes are trigger by reports generated (but not
send) pre apport 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.3. They don't hafe thus the "remember" key,
and thus, the new apport, when reporting, is crashing.
   * We now ignore if the key isn't present and just consider the answer as
"false", which is a no-op.

  [Test Case]
   * Install apport 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.1
   * Generate a crash but don't report it.
   * Upgrade to apport apport 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.3
   * Report this crash.
-> No apport crash should be triggered

  [Regression Potential]
   * We are doing a python2 compatible try/except to ignore the KeyError which
was the regression. It doesn't seem it can trigger other regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792189] [NEW] linux-firmware does not depend on initramfs-tools

2018-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In bug #1646197 the linux-firmware.postinst was added to call update-
initramfs (provided by initramfs-tools. If the initramfs-tools package
is not installed the installation of linux-firmware will fail.

Recreate:
sudo apt-get purge --assume-yes '^linux-.*' 'linux-base+' initramfs*
sudo apt-get install --assume-yes linux-generic

Result:
Setting up linux-modules-4.15.0-34-generic (4.15.0-34.37) ...
Setting up linux-headers-4.15.0-34 (4.15.0-34.37) ...
Setting up linux-headers-4.15.0-34-generic (4.15.0-34.37) ...
Setting up initramfs-tools-bin (0.130ubuntu3.3) ...
Setting up linux-firmware (1.173.1) ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-1021-kvm
/usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: 66: .: Can't open /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-1021-kvm with 2.
dpkg: error processing package linux-firmware (--configure):
installed linux-firmware package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 2
...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-firmware
 linux-image-generic
 linux-generic
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Impact:
Builds of minimized images start with an image that has the linux-kvm kernel
but lack initramfs-tools. Derivative builds that require a different kernel,
linux-generic for example, will purge the existing kernel and install the
correct kernel which could pull in linux-firmware and initramfs-tools. In that
case the builds fail unless initramfs-tools is installed prior to kernel
installation as a workaround for this missing package dependency.

This has been recreated on cosmic and bionic, a fix is desired on each.
(I was unable to recreate on Xenial but that package lacks the
dependency as well).

** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1735995] Re: [ALC892] Audio skipping/'crackling', pavucontrol shows constant (1-sec) dropping of connection to server

Title:
[ALC892] Audio skipping/'crackling', pavucontrol shows constant
(1-sec) dropping of connection to server

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So to clarify, the audio is *rapidly* dropping (i.e. drops every sec
or so), which seems roughly in time with Pavucontrol constantly
flickering up a "Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please
  wait..." message.

I've tested both the front and back audio plugs on my desktop, both
show the same problem. It doesn't 'flicker' through HDMI-audio, which
is a viable workaround as long as HDMI-audio *works* (I don't think
that's a "bug", so much as it hasn't been implemented, and won't be
  until DAL arrives).

Anyway, IIRC the problem also occurs on other distros, and at some
point it *was* working, before some software update. The same problem
  occurs on other distros too.

Also, when the audio is playing through my headphones through
*non*-HDMI audio, the audio icon flickers too.

Also, upon trying to get the above icon-flicker to happen again, it's
labelling my headphones as "unplugged" and not playing *any* (audible)
  audio.
