[Touch-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

2018-12-23 Thread fessmage
I installed package of network-manager 1.10.14-0ubuntu1 from bionic-
proposed, and can confirm that version fixed dns leak: now when vpn
connection established it gets `DNS Domain: ~.` in systemd-resolve
automatically, so no more needed to manually apply command `systemd-
resolve -i tun0 --set-domain=~.`. This positively fix dns leakage,
verified by dnsleaktest.com

Title:
  Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

Status in NetworkManager:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server
outside the VPN when they should not

  * Test case

Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name
resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be
checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark)

  * Regression potential

The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we
should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in
  different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

Bug description:
  [Impact]
On the Dell thunderbolt docs stations (WD15 and WD19), there are two playback
devices, one is headphone, the other is line-out, but there is no UCM for
these docks yet, so the pluseaudio only can handle the 1st playback device,
need us to add the UCM for them, before adding UCM, we need to set the
longname of the sound card in the linux kernel.

  [Fix]
For Linux kernel: Cherry-picked 3 upstream patches, these patches add the
longname of the sound card for the dock station.

For alsa-lib: Cherry-picked 3 upstream patches from alsa-lib, these will
add ucm configuration files for Dell WD15&19, and change the SPDIF conf
  in the USB-AUDIO.conf.

  [Test Case]
Open the gnome-sound-setting, we can choose headphone-usb and lineout-usb from
UI, and play sound via these devices

  [Regression Potential]
Very low, these patches come from upstream, and the change is only specific
to WD15 and WD19 dock station.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1809552] Re: Ubuntu sees duplicate display for each graphics card on Macbook Pro

Title:
Ubuntu sees duplicate display for each graphics card on Macbook Pro

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After booting Ubuntu in BIOS mode on my machine for years, I just
switched over to EFI boot. The reason for which I switched is that, on
this machine, Ubuntu cannot detect the integrated GPU under BIOS boot.

Ubuntu now recognizes both integrated and discrete GPU on my machine,
but it also seems to think I have two monitors.

Expected Behavior: Ubuntu properly recognizes that both graphics cards
are in fact controlling the same display

Actual Behavior: Ubuntu thinks I have two displays (each being
controlled by a separate card?). If I navigate to the "Devices >
Displays" section of the settings app, then Ubuntu lists two "Built in
Displays," and offers options to "Join Displays," mirror them, etc.

I have created a question on AskUbuntu
  (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1103696/ubuntu-duplicates-display-
  for-each-graphics-card-fresh-install) detailing this issue; it
presents much of the same information in this bug report, along with
  several images.

I have also discovered a similar thread from three years ago
  (https://askubuntu.com/questions/582574/my-macbook-has-two-built-in-
displays) suggesting that I am not the only Macbook user to suffer
from this issue. The user in said thread worked around this issue by
powering off his iGPU. I would like to set up graphics switching in
the future, so this is not an option for me. In any case, I have
tested his "solution" and it DOES NOT work on my machine (I also don't
have a /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo folder like he apparently does)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-23 Thread Belen Guaranda
Hello, I've recently bought an UX533FD ASUS, with the same sound
problem. Sorry, though I´m an ubuntu user I have no experience in
compiling kernels, and after reading this thread, I have two questions:
1)Is the fix available in kernel 4.19.11? 2) Is this command: sudo ukuu
--install v4.19.11 the only one to execute?

Bug description:
I have a Cougar 450M gaming mouse. I am dual booting between Windows
10 and Xubuntu. The mouse works perfectly in Windows but fails
dismally in any flavour of Ubuntu (tried Ubuntu, Lubuntu and Xubuntu)
including during the OS installation phase.

On very rare occasion it will work when I boot into Ubuntu, but 9 out
of 10 times the only functions available are the mouse buttons and
  scroll wheel.

There is also a DPI adjustment button on the 450M which cycles through
the various available settings and changes colour based on the current
DPI setting. I have noted that if you press the button once, the
button changes colour as expected, but if you continue to press the
button, nothing happens. It seems to freeze on that setting.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2018-12-23 Thread Nick
I am going to disagree with #62. I am running Lubuntu 18.04 fully
updated as of the date of this message.

My system is a Dell Optiplex 9020. I have tested with a Logitech M325
wireless mouse, a Dell usb mouse and an old hp PS/2 mouse (the Optiplex
9020 is a modern system but does indeed have PS/2 ports.)

Symptoms: Periodically I see the mouse cursor run uncommanded to the
upper left corner of the screen and it takes a while to get back down to
where it should be. This happens with all 3 of the mice previously
mentioned.

I intend to try to the solution in #32.

I too have similar problem on ubuntu 18.04. I never tried with wire
connection, but my wifi connection repeatedly failing after few minutes.
I tried several solutions. I installed driver=r8168

download but no good result.

lshw -C network gives me following informations:

Title:
Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Internet drops every 1-30 minutes when connected via wired or wireless
(i.e., this is a problem on both wired and wireless) even though
connection icon indicates the computer is still connected.

Disconnecting and reconnecting via the connection icon resets internet
  temporarily until the next time.

Dropped internet is discovered with "The site can't be reached"
screens in Chromium, or error messages when downloading/updating in
Terminal, or missing connection in Ubuntu Software app, or stalled
syncing in Insync application (occurred even without Insync).

Internet drops more frequently on wireless than on wired.

It seems to disconnect more frequently with heavier internet use
(e.g., downloading multiple files, opening several webpages in quick
  succession).

This is a fresh install (yesterday) of Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron
15 5567 (dual boot). It occurs when running Live CD as well though.

Ethernet and wifi both work without randomly disconnecting in Windows
10 on the same machine, and ethernet and wifi work on other machines
running Ubuntu and Windows with the same router, so it is not a
  hardware or router issue.

Output from sudo lshw -class network
