GOA cannot add a Gmail account of a minor (young child who needs
  consent)

Status in gnome-online-accounts package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello
I am user of ubuntu 18.04 with gnome version 3.28.2 and it seems that I have
found a bug when a GMAIL account is added.
I have a problem setting up my child's GMAIL account (minor). The normal
thing in any web browser is that when entering the GMAIL website, enter the
data of them and then have to enter mine to consent to their access. In the
GNOME directly blocks access when entering from ONLINE ACCOUNTS. Is there a
solution for you to access?
  Thanks and best regards

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828136] Re: [Intel DH67CL, Realtek ALC892, Grey SPDIF Out, Rear] No sound at all

2019-05-10 Thread Adrian Mariano
I followed the instructions but no log file was created.

I noticed in the man page for pulse-client.conf it says

extra-arguments= Extra arguments to pass to the PulseAudio daemon when
   autospawning.

and in /etc/pulse/client.conf.d I see

autospan=no

I tried playing sound, running "alsa force-reload" and checking for the
log file but nothing seemed to cause that file to be created.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828657] [NEW] Slow resume after lid close/open

2019-05-10 Thread Brian LePage
Public bug reported:

Summary
1.) Release Info:
Description: Ubuntu 19.04
Release:19.04
2.) Package version: linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic
3.) Expected behavior: Computer resumes shortly after opening lid.
4.) Actual behavior: Computer takes ~2 minutes to resume after opening lid.

I have installed Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo) on my Lenovo Flex 6-11IGM.
I found that when it resumes from sleep after opening the lid, it takes
a long time to resume (~2 minutes).

While experimenting with the upstream kernel releases, I found that the
problem was introduced with version 5.0.5 version of the Linux kernel;
the problem does not occur when I run version 5.0.4.

I've narrowed the culprit down to the following commit in the upstream
kernel:

a57af6d07... ALSA: hda - Enforces runtime_resume after S3 and S4 for
each codec

This change was applied to the ubuntu kernel with commit
9c51afaceb61459d2becac8fb32c860bb084e643.

The following messages appear in the system log upon resume with the
released ubuntu kernel:

May 05 20:22:11 brian-Lenovo-FLEX-6-11IGM kernel: snd_hda_intel :00:0e.0:
azx_get_response timeout, switching to polling mode: last cmd=0x20bf8100
May 05 20:22:11 brian-Lenovo-FLEX-6-11IGM kernel: hid-sensor-hub
001F:8086:22D8.0003: timeout waiting for response from ISHTP device
May 05 20:22:11 brian-Lenovo-FLEX-6-11IGM kernel: snd_hda_intel :00:0e.0:
No response from codec, disabling MSI: last cmd=0x20bf8100
May 05 20:22:11 brian-Lenovo-FLEX-6-11IGM kernel: snd_hda_codec_hdmi
hdaudioC0D2: Unable to sync register 0x2f0d00. -11

These messages do not appear in the system log upon resume when running
with upstream kernel version 5.0.4.

I have upgraded the system BIOS to the latest from Lenovo (6qcn47ww),
but the problem persists.

For now, I will run with the 5.0.4 version of the upstream kernel, as I
am not experiencing any issues with it.

Thank you.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828136] Re: [Intel DH67CL, Realtek ALC892, Grey SPDIF Out, Rear] No sound at all

2019-05-10 Thread Hui Wang
Then edit /etc/pulse/client.conf, change the line "; extra-arguments =
--log-target=syslog" to "extra-arguments = - --log-
target=file:/tmp/a.txt".

reboot.

you will find the /tmp/a.txt, this is the pulseaaudio log, let us try to
find some clues from the log.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828649] [NEW] Wayland freeze

2019-05-10 Thread Scott Palmer
Public bug reported:

When I switch to wayland the gnome desktop locks up before I see my desktop.
It doesn't lock up when I have my laptop closed and only one display connected.
When I connect up the second display, it locks up every time.
I tried deleting my monitors.xml file.. that doesn't make any difference.

I was able to get it to work by connecting one display via DisplayPort.
When I connect the second display, via active HDMI to DisplayPort on dock, it
doesn't work if I select Wayland. This wire configuration works fine with Xorg.

Additionally, when I lift my laptop screen, one of my monitors goes out
and re-enabling it causes another to go off. Linux kernel is not smart
enough to drive the 3 displays. I am able to drive two monitors and
have my laptop screen open in Windows just fine.

Of importance is that my DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor is ACTIVE. If I
was to use a PASSIVE adaptor, I cannot drive two external displays and
the laptop display.

With my laptop screen closed, I was able to drive both displays in
Wayland just fine in 18.10 so this is a regression. The GNU/Linux
kernel has always (as far as I know) been lacking in smarts to drive all
three displays.

This work system is has Intel 4000 Integrated video (Lenovo ThinkPad
laptop).

Main screen is 2560x1600 via DisplayPort to laptop.
Secondary screen is 1920x1200 via DisplayPort to laptop dock.

Trent, Thanks that does work. Now on to seeing how to addd the txt
attributes for scanner features and such, hopefully this too is
attainable.

I expected that avahi would then advertise this service (I am shooting

As I have searched high and low to figure out how to advertise

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The NonInteractive view of ubuntu-release-upgrader doesn't work so it is hard
to automate upgrade testing.

  [Test Case]
You need to create a situation where you'll receive a conffile prompt since
the handling of those is broken.

  1) On a bionic system modify /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades so that
Prompt=normal
  2) Test an upgrade from bionic to cosmic or disco i.e. run do-release-upgrade
  3) Observe the upgrade hang on the '/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades'
conffifle and the following in /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log
"2019-05-10 21:21:21,313 WARNING got a conffile-prompt from dpkg for file:
'/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades'
2019-05-10 21:21:26,319 ERROR error 'a bytes-like object is required, not
'str'' when trying to write to the conffile"

With the version of the release-upgrader from -proposed you'll no
longer observe the upgrade process hanging.

  [Regression Potential]
The fix is making it so that a byte object is passed to the prompt instead of
a string one so there really isn't one.

  [Original Description]
I'm trying to do some automated testing that involved upgrading a system from
xenial to bionic, so I need it to not ask for user input.

Before running do-release-upgrade, the system got a fresh dist-upgrade
  and reboot.

To avoid interactive responses, I'm using:
  $ sudo do-release-upgrade -d -f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive

Part way through the upgrade, I do get prompted for something though:
  Preparing to unpack .../apt_1.6.3ubuntu0.1_amd64.deb ...

  Unpacking apt (1.6.3ubuntu0.1) over (1.2.27) ...

  Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.27-3ubuntu1) ...

  Configuration file '/etc/cron.daily/apt-compat'

==> Deleted (by you or by a script) since installation.

==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.

What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:

  Y or I : install the package maintainer's version

  N or O : keep your currently-installed version

D : show the differences between the versions

Z : start a shell to examine the situation

The default action is to keep your current version.

Comparing the sha1 of apt-compat before the upgrade to another xenial
system that has been unmodified, they are the same:

In /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, I also found this:
2018-10-04 14:20:24,575 WARNING got a conffile-prompt from dpkg for file:
'/etc/cron.daily/apt-compat'
2018-10-04 14:20:29,580 ERROR error 'a bytes-like object is required, not

"2019-05-10 21:21:21,313 WARNING got a conffile-prompt from dpkg for file:

'str'' when trying to write to the conffile"

With the version of the release-upgrader from -proposed you'll no
longer observe the upgrade process hanging.

  [Regression Potential]
The fix is making it so that a byte object is passed to the prompt instead of
a string one so there really isn't one.

  [Original Description]
I'm trying to do some automated testing that involved upgrading a system from
xenial to bionic, so I need it to not ask for user input.

Before running do-release-upgrade, the system got a fresh dist-upgrade

To avoid interactive responses, I'm using:
  $ sudo do-release-upgrade -d -f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive

Part way through the upgrade, I do get prompted for something though:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right

This bug was fixed in the package kbd - 2.0.4-4ubuntu2

kbd (2.0.4-4ubuntu2) eoan; urgency=medium

  * kbd_mode: Add -f option and don't perform dangerous mode switches without
it. In the back-ported fix kbd_mode exits with success, even when the
dangerous mode change is skipped, just prints an error, to not break old
scripts. (LP: #520546)

  [Impact]

   * kbd_mode -u is documented to break keyboards in modes other than xlate and
unicode, while it is still called by some scripts. Those scripts are called
transitively by maintainer scripts such as the one already fixed in
console-setup.
   * To avoid accidentally breaking keyboards a -f option is added to force
such breaking mode changes. Without -f only the safe mode changes are performed
and an error is printed when the requested mode change is not safe. Next
upstream version will also exit with error, but the cherry-picked fix makes
kbd_mode return success even when the mode switch is not performed to avoid
regressions of scripts.

  [Test case]

   * Verify that safe mode switches work and dangerous ones are skipped
without -f. Please note that the test will temporarily break the
system's keyboard and it is recommended to run the test in a VM.

  rbalint@MacBookAir-test:~$ sudo kbd_mode -C /dev/tty4; echo $?

The keyboard is in Unicode (UTF-8) mode
  rbalint@MacBookAir-test:~$ sudo kbd_mode -u -C /dev/tty0; echo $?
The keyboard is in some unknown mode
Changing to the requested mode may make your keyboard unusable, please use -f
to force the change.

  rbalint@MacBookAir-test:~$ sudo kbd_mode -f -u -C /dev/tty0; echo $?

  rbalint@MacBookAir-test:~$ sudo kbd_mode -C /dev/tty0

  [Regression Potential]

   * kbd_mode stops performing breaking mode switches and this may make
scripts ineffective when trying to perform a breaking change. This is
the intention of the change and the emitter error helps in finding the
  offending script.

The following packages found to call kbd_mode directly:
  console-setup
  xinit
  console-cyrillic
  initramfs-tools
  dracut
  console-tools
  xview
  ubiquity's embedded console-setup copy
  console-data
  vnc4

The console related packages are expected to execute only safe mode
changes because they should operate on consoles only and the rest seem
  to be safe, too.

  (console-setup)
  [Impact]

   * keyboard-configuration's postinst changes keyboard mode breaking X
  keys.

  [Test Case]

   * Ssh to a sys

Yes, the foundations team is interested. If there is a package creating
a conffile prompt during a release upgrade we'd like to know what
package it is and why.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1796193] Re: DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive crashes / requires interaction

2019-05-10 Thread Paul Larson
For the xenial->bionic question, I had already implemented the
workaround mentioned here to use Dpkg::Options::="--force-confdef"
across all upgrade tests, which has been working fine. I can remove the
workaround and try it if you are specifically interested in finding out
whether it's necessary on the upgrade to bionic though.

Bug description:
I'm trying to do some automated testing that involved upgrading a
system from xenial to bionic, so I need it to not ask for user input.

Before running do-release-upgrade, the system got a fresh dist-upgrade
  and reboot.

To avoid interactive responses, I'm using:
  $ sudo do-release-upgrade -d -f DistUpgradeViewNonInteractive

Part way through the upgrade, I do get prompted for something though:
  Preparing to unpack .../apt_1.6.3ubuntu0.1_amd64.deb ...

  Unpacking apt (1.6.3ubuntu0.1) over (1.2.27) ...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828617] [NEW] Hosts randomly 'losing' disks, breaking ceph-osd service enumeration

2019-05-10 Thread Andrey Grebennikov
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.2 Ceph deployment.

Ceph OSD devices utilizing LVM volumes pointing to udev-based physical devices.
LVM module is supposed to create PVs from devices using the links in
/dev/disk/by-dname/ folder that are created by udev.
However on reboot it happens (not always, rather like race condition) that Ceph
services cannot start, and pvdisplay doesn't show any volumes created. The
folder /dev/disk/by-dname/ however has all necessary device created by the end
of boot process.

The behaviour can be fixed manually by running "#/sbin/lvm pvscan
--cache --activate ay /dev/nvme0n1" command for re-activating the LVM
components and then the services can be started.

** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Popping sound when audio driver engaged

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Fresh install of Disco over the weekend on new hard drive. Any time a
sound plays, whether it's from a browser (both Firefox and Chromium),
Slack, video or MP3 file, sound in VirtualBox OS, etc. Any sound,
even an alert sound or even just opening an app that may make a sound
(e.g. opening a browser page that may have alerts or sounds (like a
game) makes the same popping sound just when browsing to that page).

It's preceded by a pop or a click from the speakers, a fast pop-pop
  sound.

When said audio is finished, about 25% of the time there is another
  audible pop or click.

I have 18.04.x LTS on another hard drive and when I boot to that
instance I do not have the pop sound.

I believe it's probably driver related, but I'm not sure where to
  look.

Fresh disco install, have performed apt updates, and rebooted several
times. Has persisted for several weeks.

in disco proposed with new systemd and v4.19 kernel it appears that
dmsetup / cryptsetup storage either got better or worse.

Devices take very long to activate, and sometimes remain in use during
  test clean up.

This leads to udisks autopkgtest failing on ppc64le and systemd's
  "storage" autopkgtest is also failing.

I've tried to make ppc64le test more resilient, but it's still odd
that it became unstable in disco, and used to be rock solid on
  ppc64le.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 645404] Re: Support Private PPAs

2019-05-10 Thread Dan Streetman
one note to mention on changing software-properties over to using
launchpadlib for lp logins; launchpadlib will create cache files in ~
and when running as sudo ~ isn't changed (without -i or -H). This
results in bug 1828208

launchpadlib is not the only thing to suffer from this feature of sudo;
I'm going to start an email list discussion about ubuntu's handling of
$HOME under sudo.

for now, if testing with my ppa build, add-apt-repository should be run
with 'sudo -H' (or sudo -i), and it has a temporary check to prevent
running under plain 'sudo'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 645404] Re: Support Private PPAs

2019-05-10 Thread Dan Streetman
targeted to b/c/d/e, although all my initial work is on e only. It
includes a large amount of refactoring that I don't think is appropriate
to sru back, so b/c/d would get a much smaller update - if at all.

> * add-apt-repository should support logging in to launchpad and adding
private ppas

added this functionality.

> * private PPAs should be added with auth.conf.d for the auth data

added this functionality.

one note on this - when a private ppa is removed, the auth file is not
currently removed, i don't have the code removing it, but probably it
should be; i'll look at adding that.

> * to avoid having to login to launchpad on a server, something like:
>
> - add-apt-repository should gain a --stdin switch that contains lines of
> repositories with
>options

have not implemented this yet; however add-apt-repository does support
providing a full sources.list line, so it could be called one-line-
at-a-time. however, the way just drops the line directly into the main
sources.list file, and doesn't parse out the login:password to put into
an auth.conf.d/ file.

> host, and do the auth
>locally and then run the --stdin one on the remote host.

have not implemented this yet

  SRU justification

  [Impact]
Many modern notebooks need i2c-i801 kernel module to function, but it is
blacklisted by /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf, which gives a very poor user
experience.

  [Test case]
  1. Install Ubuntu
  2. Check touchpad works or not
  3. Install the fixed kmod package
  4. Confirm touchpad works

  [Regression Potential]
i2c-i801 was blacklisted due to bug 16602. The user complains an HP Compaq
nc6000 notebook cannot suspend without blacklisting i2c-i801. While this is a
way to workaround the suspend issue, the proper fix should be in linux kernel.
Since nc6000 was a machine sold in 2004, it is too difficult to find someone to
verify if it will regress due to this SRU. The rationale to blacklist it is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotplug/+bug/16602/comments/5,
however it is no longer valid nowadays on modern computers.

Besides, there look like to be a quirk in linux kernel that fixes it:
  https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/master/drivers/pci/quirks.c#L1434

  [Other Info]
  rationale of i2c_i801 driver blacklist:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+question/269329

---
  Original bug report:

We have a Lenovo Thinkpad machine that requires i2c-i801 kernel module
to work, but it is listed in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf in Ubuntu.
To use the touchpad, users have to remove the i2c-i801 line manually.

i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000
(Bug #16602), this module should be removed from blacklist.

There is also another bug (Bug #1475945) that needs this module for
  Acer trackpad to work.

Set up a connection and verify that everything works.
  2. Re-encrypt the key with AES-256 with this command: "openssl rsa -in

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1822270] Re: Debconf readline frontend does not show options

2019-05-10 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
Some comments on the autopkgtest regressions:

# Disco
- prometheus-blackbox-exporter and open-isns fail due to package dependency
problems, unrelated to debconf

- makedumpfile fails with "sudo: /tmp/autopkgtest-run-wrapper: command
not found", which has happened in other previous autopkgtests
(perl/5.28.1-6, file/1:5.35-4, elfutils/0.176-1). This does not seem to
be related to the debconf update

# Cosmic
- murano seems to fail due to a syntax error in python3-murano, preventing dpkg
from successfully configuring it. It has been failing since before the debconf
change was introduced

- cacti fails due to "ERROR PHP WARNING: A non-numeric value encountered
in file: /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php on line: 652", which is not
related to the debconf changes

- pbuilder is failing due to a missing Eoan script, might be related to
LP: #1825994

- glibc fails due to a timeout on the test suite, and doesn't look
related to our debconf changes

# Bionic
- pbuilder is still failing due to a missing Eoan script, might be related to
LP: #1825994

- redmine is failing due to not being able to pull some packages for the
test setup

- makedumpfile has been failing since before the debconf changes with
"makedumpfile: ERROR: crash test: kdump is not ready"

- cacti fails due to "Unexpected output in /var/log/cacti/cacti.log:
05/08/2019 19:45:00 - AUTOM8 WARNING: The Network ID: 1 is disabled. You must
use the 'force' option to force it's execution."

- open-iscsi is failing since debconf/1.5.66, so it doesn't look to be
caused by our changes

debconf prompts the user for input before displaying options

  [Description]
When upgrading packages with apt or dpkg, debconf scripts are ran through
'run-parts' with the '--report' flag. This causes script output to be handled
through pipes set up by run-parts, and buffers output from maintainer scripts
nicely for formatting.

If debconf makes use of the readline frontend, any prompts will bypass
the run-parts buffers and be displayed directly to /dev/tty. This
generally causes the prompt to be displayed before the user gets any
of the available options for it, and printing will block until the
  user inputs a valid option.

  Upstream commit: https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-
  debconf/debconf/commit/48c5ce38cfd5

  [Test Case]
  1) Deploy a VM through e.g. uvt-kvm
  $ uvt-kvm create disco release=disco

  2) Remove the whiptail package to force the readline frontend in debconf
root@disco:~# apt remove --purge whiptail -y

  3) Install grub-legacy-ec2 and prepare /boot/grub/menu.lst for an upgrade
through run-parts
  root@disco:~# apt update && apt install -y grub-legacy-ec2
  root@disco:~# rm -f /boot/grub/menu.lst*
  root@disco:~# touch -d "4 years ago" /boot/grub/menu.lst

  4) Invoke run-parts as in a kernel upgrade (kernel version doesn't matter, we
just need it to think menu.lst needs an upgrade)
  root@disco:~# run-parts --exit-on-error --arg=5.0.0 /etc/kernel/postinst.d
--report
  ...
  /etc/kernel/postinst.d/x-grub-legacy-ec2:
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
debconf: (No usable dialog-like program is installed, so the dialog based
frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm line
76.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst
Searching for splash image ... none found, skipping ...
What would you like to do about menu.lst?

The "What would you like to do about menu.lst?" prompt will block
until the user enter a valid option, even though it's being displayed
  before the available options.

  [Regression Potential]
We could hit regressions if changing debconf's printing to /dev/tty is
expected by other programs. The changes are needed only in the readline
frontend, so that would minimize impact of any possible regressions. The fixes
will be thoroughly tested with autopkgtest and use-case scenarios.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right

2019-05-10 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

+ (kbd)
+ [Impact]
+
+ * kbd_mode -u is documented to break keyboards in modes other than xlate and
unicode, while it is still called by some scripts. Those scripts are called
transitively by maintainer scripts such as the one already fixed in
console-setup.
+ * To avoid accidentally breaking keyboards a -f option is added to force
such breaking mode changes. Without -f only the safe mode changes are performed
and an error is printed when the requested mode change is not safe. Next
upstream version will also exit with error, but the cherry-picked fix makes
kbd_mode return success even when the mode switch is not performed to avoid
regressions of scripts.

+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * kbd_mode stops performing breaking mode switches and this may make
+ scripts ineffective when trying to perform a breaking change. This is
+ the intention of the change and the emitter error helps in finding the
+ offending script.
+
+ The following packages found to call kbd_mode directly:
+ console-setup
+ xinit
+ console-cyrillic
+ initramfs-tools
+ dracut
+ console-tools
+ xview
+ ubiquity's embedded console-setup copy
+ console-data
+ vnc4
+
+ The console related packages are expected to execute only safe mode
+ changes because they should operate on consoles only and the rest seem
+ to be safe, too.
+
  (console-setup)
  [Impact]

   * keyboard-configuration's postinst changes keyboard mode breaking X
  keys.

  [Test Case]

   * Ssh to a system or open a terminal and unset DISPLAY

  $ echo $DISPLAY

  $

   * Check kbd mode, should be raw (set by kbd_mode -s) or unknown:
     $ sudo kbd_mode
The keyboard is in some unknown mode
     $ sudo kbd_mode
The keyboard is in raw (scancode) mode
     $

-On Xenial X runs on VT7 thus the graphical environment is not affected in
the default configuration, but the keyboard-configuration postinst maintaner
script still changes mode on vt1-6, thus at the beginning set VT1 to raw mode
to observe the change:
-$ sudo kbd_mode -s -C /dev/tty1
-$ sudo kbd_mode -C /dev/tty1
-The keyboard is in raw (scancode) mode
+    On Xenial X runs on VT7 thus the graphical environment is not affected in
the default configuration, but the keyboard-configuration postinst maintaner
script still changes mode on vt1-6, thus at the beginning set VT1 to raw mode
to observe the change:
+    $ sudo kbd_mode -s -C /dev/tty1
+    $ sudo kbd_mode -C /dev/tty1
+    The keyboard is in raw (scancode) mode

   * Install or reinstall kbd-configuration

$ sudo apt install --reinstall keyboard-configuration
     ...
     Setting up keyboard-configuration (1.178ubuntu11) ...
Your console font configuration will be updated the next time your system
boots. If you want to update it now, run 'setupcon' from a virtual console.
     ...

   * With the fixed package you should see the note above and the kbd mode
must stay the same (on Xenial check VT1: sudo kbd_mode -C /dev/tty1):

     $ sudo kbd_mode
The keyboard is in raw (scancode) mode
     $

   * The unfixed package sets the kbd mode to unicode:

     $  sudo kbd_mode
The keyboard is in Unicode (UTF-8) mode
     $

  [Regression Potential]

   * The change may break debian-installer changing the keyboard mode, this
should also be tested.
   * In general changing the postinst script may make the package unable to
install, but this is tested in generi

[Touch-packages] [Bug 942856] Re: NetworkManager does not support AES-encrypted private keys for WPA 802.1x authentication

2019-05-10 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Walter, or anyone else affected,

Accepted network-manager into bionic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/1.10.14-0ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Selecting AES-{192,256}-CBC keys to connect isn't working

  * Test case

  1. Start with a working (cleartext or DES-3) private key/cert for a network.
Set up a connection and verify that everything works.
  2. Re-encrypt the key with AES-256 with this command: "openssl rsa -in
working-key.pem -out aes-key.pem -aes256" (the output should have a line
starting with "DEK-Info: AES-256-CBC,")
  3. Delete the settings for the test network and attempt to reconnect using
the new key.

  That should work

  * Regression potential

That's new code for an extra type of keys, it shouldn't impact
  existing options

NetworkManager does not appear to support private keys encrypted with
AES. At the very least, it will not validate such a key in nm-util
when setting up a WPA 802.1x TLS wifi connection.

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server outside
the VPN when they should not

  [Test case]
  1) Set up a VPN with split tunneling:
a) Configure VPN normally (set up remote host, any ports and options needed
for the VPN to work)
b) Under the IPv4 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources
on its network".
c) Under the IPv6 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources
on its network".

  2) Connect to the VPN.

  3) Run 'systemd-resolve --status'; note the DNS servers configured:
a) For the VPN; under a separate link (probably tun0), note down the IP of
the DNS server(s). Also note the name of the interface (link).
b) For the "main" connection; under the link for your ethernet or wireless
devices (wl*, en*, whatever it may be), note down the IP of the DNS server(s).
Also note the name of the interface (link).

  4) In a separate terminal, run 'sudo tcpdump -ni
  port 53'; let it run.

  5) In a separate terminal, run 'sudo tcpdump -ni
  port 53'; let it run.

  6) In yet another terminal, issue name resolution requests using dig:
a) For a name known to be reachable via the public network:
   'dig www.yahoo.com'
b) For a name known to be reachable only via the VPN:
   'dig '

  7) Check the output of each terminal running tcpdump. When requesting
the public name, traffic can go through either. When requesting the
"private" name (behind the VPN), traffic should only be going through
the interface for the VPN. Additionally, ensure the IP receiving the
requests for the VPN name is indeed the IP address noted above for the
  VPN's DNS server.

If you see no traffic showing in tcpdump output when requesting a
name, it may be because it is cached by systemd-resolved. Use a
different name you have not tried before.

  [Regression potential]
The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we should check
that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

using IPv4, IPv6, VPN, wifi, eth connections, etc.

  * Regression potential

The update is non trivial, there are several changes are IPv6 and DNS

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1814373] Re: storage / luks / dmsetup regressed (or got better) on ppc64le

2019-05-10 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
So, I tested with a 4.18 kernel and I could still reproduce the issue on
eoan. Then, I tested on a bionic system, 4.15 kernel, systemd 237, glibc
2.27, and I see a failure on malloc, also memory corruption.

This appears on the backtrace.
3738malloc_printerr ("malloc(): memory corruption");

I am going back to xenial.

  [Impact]
Many modern notebooks need i2c-i801 kernel module to function, but it is
blacklisted by /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf, which gives a very poor user
experience.

  [Test case]
  1. Install Ubuntu
  2. Check touchpad works or not
  3. Install the fixed kmod package
  4. Confirm touchpad works

  [Regression Potential]
i2c-i801 was blacklisted due to bug 16602. The user complains an HP Compaq
nc6000 notebook cannot suspend without blacklisting i2c-i801. While this is a
way to workaround the suspend issue, the proper fix should be in linux kernel.
Since nc6000 was a machine sold in 2004, it is too difficult to find someone to
verify if it will regress due to this SRU. The rationale to blacklist it is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotplug/+bug/16602/comments/5,
however it is no longer valid nowadays on modern computers.

Besides, there look like to be a quirk in linux kernel that fixes it:
  https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/master/drivers/pci/quirks.c#L1434

  [Other Info]
  rationale of i2c_i801 driver blacklist:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+question/269329

---
  Original bug report:

We have a Lenovo Thinkpad machine that requires i2c-i801 kernel module
to work, but it is listed in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf in Ubuntu.
To use the touchpad, users have to remove the i2c-i801 line manually.

i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000
(Bug #16602), this module should be removed from blacklist.

There is also another bug (Bug #1475945) that needs this module for
  Acer trackpad to work.

This affects all Qt applications on Unity and other desktops which use
global menu, either via appmenu-qt5 or via native implementation on
  Yakkety.

Any shortcut is not working if the corresponding action is attached
only to the menubar (i.e. and not also to the toolbar). It can be
reproduced with almost any application by removing the toolbar (right-
clicking on it and deselecting it).

  Test Case
  =

  * Open Qt Assistant;
  * Press Ctrl+T (this action is not on the toolbar).

Expected: a new tab should be opened. Current result: nothing happens.

In Yakkety the fix should work both with and without appmenu-qt5.

  Proposed Fix

The proposed fix is a backport of the upstream fix at
  https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/commit/?id=287f548d4c7cc594.

Actually just the qshortcut.cpp part would be sufficient, but the
other parts make sure it plays fine together with https://cgit.kde.org
  /plasma-integration.git/commit/?id=aef74e97e2ed462a.

  Regression Potential

The fix is in Zesty for 1½ months now (in upstream even longer), and
so far nobody complained. People have verified that the fix works (see
  comment #63).

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver

An issue was reported to systemd-networkd on GitHub -
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/11650 - and all the thorough
  details are there.

Using anonymous bridges (ie: not attached to physical NICs) is
problematic with systemd-networkd as they get deconfigured as soon as
the last attached device disconnects (ie: a LXC container). Static IP
configuration must be done again manually.

The root cause is that systemd-networkd assumes that every network
interface have a carrier signal. There's no notion of carrier signal
on anonymous bridges, a case not properly handled by systemd-networkd.

The systemd dev team provided a patch to address the issue and it
would be nice to be integrated on the Ubuntu package.

  The PR is here :

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/93b4dab57e2e13bd804cbee999241be65a443e2e

To get the proper fix, you'll need to combine 2 patches :

  - The one from the PR above
  - Another patch [1] which fixes a segfault introduced by the PR.

  [1]

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/11741/commits/a294af6810df3c18909a96b556deadba0e2ab0a9

On my test environment, I rebuild the Ubuntu package with the 2
patches above from "237-3ubuntu10.17" to "237-3ubuntu10.20" and made
thorough tests without hiting a single issue so I think we can assume
that these 2 patches are safe to use.

debconf prompts the user for input before displaying options

  [Test Case]
  1) Deploy a VM through e.g. uvt-kvm
  $ uvt-kvm create disco release=disco

  2) Remove the whiptail package to force the readline frontend in debconf
root@disco:~# apt remove --purge whiptail -y

  3) Install grub-legacy-ec2 and prepare /boot/grub/menu.lst for an upgrade
through run-parts
  root@disco:~# apt update && apt install -y grub-legacy-ec2
  root@disco:~# rm -f /boot/grub/menu.lst*
  root@disco:~# touch -d "4 years ago" /boot/grub/menu.lst

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1550566] Re: ubuntu-minimal should not throw in rsyslog anymore

2019-05-10 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Given that `init` is seeded, it means systemd and journald will be
present on the system and provide a syslog compatible interface on the
local system. For a minimal system that is sufficient.

Please note that persistent logs have not been enabled in xenial, thus
ideally such a change should only be made from the current devel
releases and up.

debconf prompts the user for input before displaying options

  [Description]
When upgrading packages with apt or dpkg, debconf scripts are ran through
'run-parts' with the '--report' flag. This causes script output to be handled
through pipes set up by run-parts, and buffers output from maintainer scripts
nicely for formatting.

If debconf makes use of the readline frontend, any prompts will bypass
the run-parts buffers and be displayed directly to /dev/tty. This
generally causes the prompt to be displayed before the user gets any
of the available options for it, and printing will block until the
  user inputs a valid option.

the patch has not been applied.
Can you check again?

[VERIFICATION XENIAL]

1) Used vagrant init ubuntu/xenial64 to create new instance.
2) Used vagrant ssh to login.
3) Added "session required pam_tty_audit.so enable=*" at the top of

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828516] Re: avahi-daemon seems unable to advertise _uscan._tcp??

2019-05-10 Thread Trent Lloyd
Hi Markos,

After creating this service file, if you check the contents of
/var/log/syslog, you will see that Avahi gave an error parsing the file:

May 10 16:01:30 optane avahi-daemon[1260]: Loading service file
/services/test.service.
May 10 16:01:30 optane avahi-daemon[1260]: /services/test.service: parse
failure: didn't expect element .
May 10 16:01:30 optane avahi-daemon[1260]: XML_ParseBuffer() failed at line 4:
mismatched tag.
May 10 16:01:30 optane avahi-daemon[1260]: Failed to load service group file
/services/test.service, ignoring.

The error here is that you used the "<" and ">" characters in the name
of your service "" but as this is an XML format file,
those characters are reserved for the format of the XML itself. For XML,
to include such characters in the name, you need to escape them similar
to HTML by using the token < ("Less Than" or the < symbol) and >
("Greater Than" or the > symbol)

Once you do that, you will see the service file loads successfully:
May 10 16:03:49 optane avahi-daemon[1260]: Service "optane "
(/services/test.service) successfully established.

And it is now visible in avahi-browse:
=br0 IPv6 optane _uscan._tcp
 local
   hostname = [optane.local]
   address = [fe80::76d4:35ff:fee0:f74c]
   port = [80]
   txt = []

Most likely a real _uscan._tcp service may need more info than this such as TXT
records describing the service but hopefully it at least gets you going.

I am setting this bug as Invalid as it is not an actual bug, but simply
an error using the software. But hopefully I was able to get you in the
right direction!

Regards,
Trent

[Touch-packages] [Bug 938751] Re: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps

2019-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Indeed, I have suspected for a long time that the color correction is
being applied twice. So the final result looks wrong in such apps.

If that's true then we would probably want either to:

 (a) Not tell apps about the color profile at all, because it's already
applied full screen; or

 (b) Tell apps what (if any) profile is already applied full screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 938751] Re: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps

2019-05-10 Thread Another User
EOG also applies fullscreen profiles to image!
Notice most of preinstalled color profiles in Settings->Devices->Color does not
support whole screen correction (they are marked with bulb icon). So this is
normal application behavior to apply system-wide color profile to image. But
when fullscreen profile selected, it used firstly in EOG for certain image and
secondly by the system for final correction.
In my case screen has noticeable bluish cast, so ICC does significant color
shift to compensate it. But when applied twice, it makes images yellowish in
EOG. While Gimp and Shotwell display colors correctly.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.

2019-05-10 Thread Dominique Meeùs
I still had the mscorefonts problem (errors in sourceforge mirrors) in 19.04.
Found this workaround in #1655431. Quoting: Boris Rybalkin (ribalkin) wrote on
2017-11-26:#18
Was able to fix sf mirrors issue by replacing sf mirror with some github copy:
sudo sed -i
's#http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts#https://github.com/pushcx/corefonts/raw/master#g'
 /usr/share/package-data-downloads/ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Then run:
sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader
All downloaded and good.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Downloads via HTTPS fail if the URL contains a space (before yakkety only if
there is no redirect from a previous space-free https URL). This breaks
packages like ttf-mscorefonts-installer and various third party hosters.

  [Test case]
  Install/Upgrade apt-transport-https, that's where the fix is.

  Check that

  /usr/lib/apt/apt-helper download-file

http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/repo/pool/free/ardour4_4.7.0-1kxstudio1_i386.deb
  test.deb

can successfully download the file (or at least start downloading it)
and does not fail early with a 505 HTTP version not supported error
  message.

This problem does not occur with that file on xenial, as it first
redirects to an https URI without a space which then redirects to an
HTTPS uri with a space (http w/o space -> https w/o space -> https w/
space). In xenial, https->https redirects where handled internally by
  curl.

Another test (applicable to xenial) is to install ttf-mscorefonts-
  installer.

  [Regression potential]
  The added code is:
     Uri.Path = QuoteString(Uri.Path, "+~ ");

Some servers might not like + or ~ being quoted. We use the same
quoting call for the http method too, though, so it seems highly
  unlikely to cause an issue.
