Title:
  Stylus Use leads to Crash Application in Wayland Sessions

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  There is an issue in gtk. In Wayland sessions the use of a stylus
  leads to crash of the application. It is apparently fixed in Gnome
  gtk.

  When asking what should I do I got the answer that I should ask the
  ubuntu gtk maintainers to backport <
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/merge_requests/1121> and
  , which I do
  here and now.

  Best regards

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1844853] Re: IBus no longer works in Qt applications after upgrade

Yeah.. ibus without specified series was marked "Fix Released" when the
CVE patch was disabled, and when I targeted to series for glib2.0, it
happened for ibus too (I removed all series bug focal). So there is
really no message in it.

> would you like me to upload an updated focal version as well to the
> above PPA?

It's not needed for the SRU verification. Alternatively you could just
upload to focal as soon as glib2.0 2.62.2-2 makes it to focal-release
(it's stuck in -proposed right now).

(On IRC I was also talking about another ibus change in focal, which
will require an apparmor change, but let's deal with that separately to
not complicate things too much.)

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  IBus was broken for Qt applications as a regression due to the fix of
  CVE-2019-14822. As a result the IBus patch was disabled temporarily,
  which fixed IBus from a usability POV.

  The real fix has been made in glib2.0, and the updates in -proposed
  will allow the IBus patch to be re-enabled.

  [Test Case]

   * On a standard Ubuntu {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial} installation
     - Upgrade the glib2.0 packages from
   {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial}-proposed
     - Upgrade the ibus packages from
   https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
     - Install some IBus input method, e.g. ibus-libpinyin
     - Install some Qt application, e.g. Kate

  * Relogin (maybe reboot)

  * Add the input method to the input sources

  * Open the Qt app and try to input something using the IBus IM

  => Find that the transliteration works as expected

  [Regression Potential]

  The applicable patches origin from glib upstream:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/merge_requests/1176
  Consequently the changes have been reviewed by the glib maintainer, but also
tested by the IBus maintainer, by me (gunnarhj), and - of course - the author
Simon McVittie. The changes have been in Debian unstable since 2019-10-30.

  Kubuntu Release 18.04.3 LTS

  Expected behavior:
  ibus continues working as before after applying security update
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1 from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5.

  Observed behavior:
  ibus is not usable anymore in Qt applications.

  After updating ibus and the related packages ibus-gtk, ibus-gtk3,
libibus-1.0-5 and gir1.2-ibus-1.0 all from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5 to
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1, I can no longer use ibus in Qt applications. Using
shift-space no longer changes the selected input method and even when i switch
to the mozc input method in a gtk application, i can not use it in any Qt
applications.
  When starting qtconfig in a terminal, I also get the following message:

  Bus::open: Connect ibus failed!
  IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

  This bug was not present in version 1.5.17-3ubuntu5 and I also
  confirmed that downgrading the packages to version 1.5.17-3ubuntu4
  restores ibus functionality in Qt applications.

@gunnarhj - updated packages for ibus are now available in the ubuntu-

Also I note the bug descriptions lists ibus in Focal as Fix Released -

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12

2019-11-03 Thread Paul
Ok I actually made it work. Not sure if this still belongs here, but
might as well inform others how I fixed it. Maybe it will help you as
well.

Although I had never connected the iPhone to my PC before, I needed to
reset the trust settings to get the dialogue option to "trust this
device" on the iPhone.

The procedure is quite simple. Go to Settings > General >> Reset >>
Reset Location and Privacy. It is also explained here:
https://www.guidingtech.com/fix-iphone-trust-this-computer-not-showing-
up-issue/

By the way, I then still could not paste files on the iPhone. This might
be an Xubuntu specific issue, but I had to install iFuse first. See
here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/799414/how-to-move-files-from-
ubuntu-to-iphone

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12

2019-11-03 Thread Paul
Same problem here, but then on Xubuntu 18.04.3 LTS computer and an old
iPhone 4.

Failed to mount "Documents on XYZ iPhone".
Unhandled Lockdown error (-2).

When I type "idevicepair pair" in the terminal, it gives me the
following message:

ERROR: Could not validate with device
d91d11bb8bf8225ab0dd67380ddec2a8afcbdc58 because a passcode is set.
Please enter the passcode on the device and retry.

However, on the iPhone itself I do not receive the "trust this device?"
message, and thus am unable to continue. Rebooting the iPhone or
computer does not help.

Title:
  "Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect!" warning

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Hello everyone,

  I noticed a strange systemd warning in my kernel log about "Proceeding
  WITHOUT firewalling in effect!" There is an older Debian bug mention
  about this same issue and it is said there that it was fixed last
  year: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=872560

  Release: Ubuntu 19.10, fresh install, latest updates with updates-testing
repository enabled
  Systemd-package version: 242-7ubuntu3
  Kernel: Linux 5.3.0-21-generic

  Here is the relevant warning information via running sudo dmesg after
  boot:

  [2.096064] Lockdown: systemd: /dev/mem,kmem,port is restricted; see man
kernel_lockdown.7
  [2.101034] Lockdown: systemd: BPF is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7
  [2.136885] systemd[1]: File
/lib/systemd/system/systemd-journald.service:12 configures an IP firewall
(IPAddressDeny=any), but the local system does not support BPF/cgroup based
firewalling.
  [2.142209] systemd[1]: Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect! (This
warning is only shown for the first loaded unit using IP firewalling.)
  [2.158190] systemd[1]: /lib/systemd/system/dbus.socket:4: ListenStream=
references a path below legacy directory /var/run/, updating
/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket → /run/dbus/system_bus_socket; please update
the unit file accordingly.
  [2.197029] systemd[1]: Listening on Journal Socket.
  [2.203708] systemd[1]: Starting Create list of required static device
nodes for the current kernel...
  [2.243900] bpfilter: Loaded bpfilter_umh pid 420
  #Continues normally from here without anything that seems odd

  The included attachment .txt has more information. From what I've read
  online from various bug trackers from other distributions this should
  be related to a missing kernel option (CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y), but this
  option seems to be enabled:

  # Output after running in commandline: grep BPF /boot/config-`uname -r`
  # Kernel settings seem to be correct?
  CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y
  CONFIG_BPF=y
  CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y
  CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON=y
  CONFIG_IPV6_SEG6_BPF=y
  CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_BPF=m
  CONFIG_BPFILTER=y
  CONFIG_BPFILTER_UMH=m
  CONFIG_NET_CLS_BPF=m
  CONFIG_NET_ACT_BPF=m
  CONFIG_BPF_JIT=y
  CONFIG_BPF_STREAM_PARSER=y
  CONFIG_LWTUNNEL_BPF=y
  CONFIG_HAVE_EBPF_JIT=y
  CONFIG_BPF_EVENTS=y
  CONFIG_BPF_KPROBE_OVERRIDE=y
  CONFIG_TEST_BPF=m

  Also my friend just installed 19.10 on his machine and is seeing the
  same warning, but I haven't found anyone else mentioning this issue at
  least on the latest Ubuntu 19.10. The same warning message is
  appearing if I run Ubuntu 19.10 in live mode from the USB stick.

  What I expected to happen: no such error (it doesn't appear on Fedora
  or openSUSE Tumbleweed that I've recently had installed on my other
  SSD)

  What happened instead: error appears during every boot sequence

  It's also worth stressing that the firewall is functioning just fine
  (using standard ufw) despite the error, so I'm guessing this is a
  harmless warning.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1851128] [NEW] Stylus Use leads to Crash Application in Wayland Sessions

2019-11-03 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

There is an issue in gtk. In Wayland sessions the use of a stylus leads
to crash of the application. It is apparently fixed in Gnome gtk.

When asking what should I do I got the answer that I should ask the
ubuntu gtk maintainers to backport <
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/merge_requests/1121> and
, which I do
here and now.

Best regards

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1851046] Re: Enable Last.fm provider

I just did a quick test with building the packages from the Ubuntu
repository with the single change of adding the "--enable-lastfm" build
parameter. After installing those packages and a reboot the Last.fm
account worked as supposed to.
