[Touch-packages] [Bug 1880365] [NEW] Trackpad loses functionality after sleep
Public bug reported: On 18.04 and 19.10, the Dell Vostro 5391 would lose the trackpad cursor control completely, manifesting as a frozen cursor. On 20.04, it comes back from sleep as a regular mouse, but tracks motion differently and doesn't recognize any normal gestures or the right-click. Plugging a USB mouse in is a workaround, but having the trackpad: DELL096F:00 27C6:01F0 Mouse: Applying InputClass "libinput pointer catchall" work properly through sleep/wake cycles would be ideal. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1880363] [NEW] After upgrade to 20.04, cursor scroll stutters when earphone is plugged in
Public bug reported: Hi, I am having this weird issue after upgrading to 20.04. There are primarily 2 issues, all related to the fact of inserting earphones in my laptop. The moment I insert the earphones: - The cursor movement starts to stutter and eventually stops after a second or two. This happens when I am trying to go up or down in my code editor. - Paused Youtube videos automatically start resuming themselves. It seems like this is a feature somewhere, but after a lot of googling, I was unable to find anything related. The issues only happen when I plug in my earphones and stop when I take them out. And this started to happen immediately after I upgraded to 20.04. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Happy to provide more info. Thanks. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1879211] Re: Charging my cellphone through usb breaks internet connection.
@AlexMurray Genuine question. Does this mean that I shouldn't connect untrusted usb devices to my computer because it can unilaterally decide to snoop my traffic? So far my understanding has been that usb devices cannot run arbitrary programs and are thus safe to connect, with the exception of specific security exploits. This counters my expectations because a usb device would not need to rely on an exploit to compromise my computer, just legitimately use a feature. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879211 Title: Charging my cellphone through usb breaks internet connection. Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I don't know what package is responsible for this. I entered iptables because the ip command was not recognized as a package. I use the ip route to debug internet problems. Here it is before plugging my cellphone through usb: #ip route default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0 proto dhcp metric 600 25.0.0.0/8 dev ham0 proto kernel scope link src 25.69.248.65 169.254.0.0/16 dev virbr0 scope link metric 1000 linkdown 192.168.0.0/24 dev wlp2s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.51 metric 600 192.168.122.0/24 dev virbr0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.122.1 linkdown Here it is after I plug my cellphone #ip route default via 192.168.42.129 dev enp0s20f0u1 proto dhcp metric 100 default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0 proto dhcp metric 600 25.0.0.0/8 dev ham0 proto kernel scope link src 25.69.248.65 169.254.0.0/16 dev virbr0 scope link metric 1000 linkdown 192.168.0.0/24 dev wlp2s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.51 metric 600 192.168.42.0/24 dev enp0s20f0u1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.42.114 metric 100 192.168.122.0/24 dev virbr0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.122.1 linkdown So my computer is trying to access all ips using my cellphone as a router, which of course fails. the command "sudo ip route del default" followed by "sudo ip route add default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0" restores my connection. Thank you for your attention. I'm available to answer any questions and fix this bug. Reporting this bug was already effort diverted from my other tasks, so let's make this count no matter how deep it cuts. P.S: I went ahead and marked this bug as a security vulnerability because I can think of ways this can be exploited, especially if the cellphone can trigger the bug and route traffic so that the user doesn't suspect it. If you feel the security impact is small and that there are other more important security issues, feel free to unmark it and we can deal with it's usability impact, which is probably more impactful. One (on port 22) is for internal use, accepts passwords etc. The second (on port 7722) does not allow PAM use and no passwords, allows only one user(name) and uses an alternative autorized_keys file (that only root can edit). Any parameter FIRST encountered in sshd_config is the one that is accepted; others do not override (like in many other config files). There is one exception: 'Port', which is accumulative. To make life easier, I set the more restrictive parameters for port 7722 first and next include the system-default /etc/ssh/sshd_config. The /etc/ssh/sshd_config file(s) in Ubuntu Server 20.04 DO NOT specify 'Port' anywhere - the default is 22. But: it is obviously still accumulative: Setting 'Port' to 7722 makes sshd listen on port 7722 AND 22. This is unwanted. Proposed solution: Remove the accumulative behavior for 'Port' and REQUIRE the 'Port' parameter like before (and maybe have second and later parameters override the earlier ones, like 'everyone else'). Regards, Adriaan PS Searching for solutions, I found that specifying 'ListenAddress 0.0.0.0:7722' stops sshd from listening to port 22. This, however, is not documented in 'man 5 sshd_config' and may be an unreliable side- effect. Indeed. I simply ran apt to fix the broken install to get tasksel to rerun successfully. Please close this bug. Thanks, Wing. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1880222] Re: ubuntu bionic-backports Hash Sum mismatch
Yes, I am. When I download the file myself via firefox, I get a file that matches the hash it is supposed to be and this also matches the file in /var/lib/apt/lists of which the file in /var/lib/apt/lists/partial is merely a symlink. I ran an ISP transparent proxy test and it came up negative. And the ISP is not involved in DNS at all, because Firefox uses Cloudflare DoH and I'm using Cloudflare DoT otherwise for the system currently. For DNS lookup, I get: ; unsigned answer us.archive.ubuntu.com. 3200171710 IN A 91.189.91.38 us.archive.ubuntu.com. 3200171710 IN A 91.189.91.39 And Firefox is using the latter. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1872564] Autopkgtest regression report (apparmor/2.13.3-7ubuntu5.1)
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted apparmor (2.13.3-7ubuntu5.1) for focal have finished running. The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package: systemd/245.4-4ubuntu3 (ppc64el) libreoffice/1:6.4.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 (amd64) Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures, proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding autopkgtest regressions [1]. https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed- migration/focal/update_excuses.html#apparmor [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Autopkgtest_Regressions Thank you! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872564 Title: /proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id rule missing from abstractions/nameservice Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in apparmor source package in Focal: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] On a default Focal install, systemd is used when looking up passwd and group information: # grep systemd /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: files systemd group: files systemd Daemons confined by Apparmor that also query those "databases" will cause this Apparmor denial: audit: type=1400 audit(1586825456.411:247): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=7370 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 Many daemons confined by Apparmor also happen to downgrade their privileges so they always end up looking up user/group information. To fix this problem, we had to backport an upstream patch which adds new directives to the 'nameservices' apparmor profile. [Test Case] In order to reproduce the bug, one can: 1) launch a Focal container (named fb1 here) $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal fb1 2) setup apparmor inside the container (already done on official Ubuntu images) $ lxc exec fb1 -- apt update && lxc exec fb1 -- apt install apparmor -y 3) install bind9 $ lxc exec fb1 -- apt install bind9 -y 4) check kernel logs for DENIED $ journalctl -o cat -b0 -k | grep 'apparmor="DENIED"' | grep -F 'profile="/usr/sbin/named"' or, depending on how logging is configured: $ dmesg | grep 'apparmor="DENIED"' | grep -F 'profile="/usr/sbin/named"' Step 4, should not return anything. Because systemd is involved in the user/group lookups, it currently returns the following: audit: type=1400 audit(1586826072.115:266): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=13756 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 audit: type=1400 audit(1586826072.115:267): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=13756 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 audit: type=1400 audit(1586826072.115:268): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=13756 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 audit: type=1400 audit(1586826072.115:269): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=13756 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 audit: type=1400 audit(1586826072.115:270): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-fb1_" profile="/usr/sbin/named" name="/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id" pid=13756 comm="named" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=100 ouid=100 [Regression Potential] In order to fix this issue, 3 separate patches had to be backported. They are simple and self-contained, especially two of them, whose purposes are to add the definition of the @{run} variable and then to add a trailing slash at the end of the "/run" pathname. The other patch, albeit very simple, adds three statements to the 'nameservice' profile in order to let processes access (read-only) files under "/run/systemd/userdb" and "/proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id". After thinking about the possible cases, the only possible problem I could envision was for a program that, not being able to access some of these files before, will now be able to do that and therefore exercise a part of its codebase which was not being used, possibly uncovering latent bugs in this software. But this is not a regression of apparmor per se. [Original Description] (Description and Test Case were moved above) # Workaround 1) remove systemd from nsswitch.conf $ lxc exec fb1 -- sed -i 's/ systemd$/ # systemd/' /etc/nsswi
