Bug description:
  Steps:
  1. Suspend the computer by pressing the Sleep key(Fn+F2 on the keyboard here)
  2. Press any key on the keyboard or the Power button to wake the device up

  Expected results:
  1. The system suspends and the Power button LED blinks
  2. The system wakes up and user can log in.

  Actual results:
  1. The system suspends and the Power button LED blinks (OK)
  2. The login screen appears and the screen is immediately turned off (NOK).
User needs to move the mouse or enter a key to turn the screen on.

  Additional information:

  - In a few additional occasions, after performing this action several
times (pressing the Sleep key to suspend the system, then wake it up),
the system freezes at log in screen just before going to suspend mode.
It has to be force-stopped and restarted.

  - Please note that this problem does NOT happen when suspending from
the User Menu or using the Power button and selecting Suspend.

Title:
[nvidia] Screen blank when waking from suspend, have to move mouse to
  make login screen appear

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This is basically the same symptom, but from many years ago:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1431128

  To reproduce:
  1) Suspend (I do so via the dropdown menu)
  2) Turn off display. (Not sure if relevant)
  3) Turn on display. (Not sure if relevant, problem occurs even if this step
is after #4)
  4) Wake from suspend (I do so by pressing a key on the keyboard OR the power
button)
  5) Screen either stays black or flickers for a second and then goes black
  6) Press any key on the keyboard
  7) Login screen appears (as if it was in screen-saver/lock mode before)

I'm guessing the bug is not very reproducible because you would have
noticed it already. However, I should note that (aside from a few days
after I installed the OS) the problem happens 100% of the times I wake
  from sleep

Some unique details about my setup:
  1) The default 20.04 installation failed to a bug installing the packaged
Nvidia drivers, but skipping that and doing it after installation worked in all
respects that I can see
  2) My computer is custom, not OEM.
  3) I do have VMWare Workstation installed
  4) I used to use 18.04 and 19.10, neither had the issue

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1905953] Re: Xorg crash

2020-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

On my system, I have a consistent Deny on cups-browsed --capable, one
example from 281300Z November 2020 being:

I have set cups-browsed to complain mode in AppArmor pending the bugfix.

Bug description:
My Xubuntu 20.10 installation has no sound (Dummy Output) unless I

pulseaudio does survive a suspend. Just a hard reset or power cycle
  causes it to fail.

  How I re-install pulseaudio:

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall pulseaudio

I have tried just killing the pulseaudio service, and letting it
restart on it's own. It restarts, but no audio. Reinstalling seems to
  do the trick though.

Note: File samples are after reinstalling. (working state)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1850887] Re: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs

2020-11-29 Thread Doug
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1847570 ***

Me also, 10 months after the last post and still a problem.
3 weeks, 7 different distro's and now another one that makes it hard to enjoy
Linux.
It is frustrating and the only one I've tried with a sound issue but they all
have problems.

Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
PulseAudio reverts the sound to HDMI all the time when a HDMI related
power event occurs. That means, although I have set another USB sound
device plugged in and set as default under sound settings, when an
application like Kodi or the system shuts off the HDMI monitor and I
reactivate the monitor, the sound is set to HDMI output again and
  again.

That probably has to do with the fix to the reported Bug # 1711101 and
definitely not happened at Ubuntu 19.04. I switched to Ubuntu 19.10
  two days ago.

Setting the USB device as default does not help, even when done by
PulseAudio mixer (gui) and removing HDMI output from the alternatives
  option.

  Expected behavior:
PulseAudio keeps the sound setting to the selected device

  Actual behavior:
PulseAudio changes to HDMI at every HDMI power event

  Annoying manual workaround:
Setting the desired Audio option on the control panel after every HDMI power
event again

Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My notebook does not suspend after upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04.

According to system settings the notebook should suspend when lid is
closed but actually this does not happen. Instead it continues to run
  as if nothing had happened.

With the previous versions of ubuntu (14.04-15.10) everything worked
  fine.

  My System: HP Pavilion dv7.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1905510] Re: utils-linux 2.36.1 breaks user mounts (cifs)

2020-11-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package util-linux - 2.36.1-1ubuntu2

---
util-linux (2.36.1-1ubuntu2) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Unbreak mount.cifs user mount (LP: #1905510)
- d/p/libmount-don-t-use-symfollow-for-helpers-on-user-mounts.patch:
Backport from upstream patch to fix user mounts on mount.cifs,
because the "symfollow" option became unknown.

util-linux (2.36.1-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- Build hwclock with audit support.
- Drop debian/hwclock.rules and debian/util-linux.hwclock.default, recent
  kernels sync the RTC automatically.
- Add sulogin-fallback-static-sh.patch: Add support for /bin/static-sh as
fallback if the regular shell fails to execute. Patch ported from
  sysvinit. (see LP #505887)
- Add sulogin-lockedpwd.patch: Make sure file systems can be fixed on
machines with locked root accounts (as Ubuntu does by default). Don't
  require --force for sulogin.
- Clean up weekly fstrim cron file, now a systemd timer unit.

util-linux (2.36.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream stable release
  * Remove upstream applied patches

util-linux (2.36-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Holger Wansing ]
  * Re-add Tajik debconf translation file (somehow lost from eject package).
Taken from bug #890079.
  * Update Norwegian Bokmål debconf translation according to last state in
eject package (taken from bug #923919).

  [ Slimane Selyan Amiri ]
  * Add Kabyle translation for eject (via Hoger Wansing)

  [ Chris Hofstaedtler ]
  * flock: keep -E exit status more restrictive (Closes: #973751)

Bug description:
I'm working on merging samba from Debian (2:4.13.2+dfsg-1), and while
running the autopkgtests for the package I noticed that two tests are
failing. These tests attempt to invoke mount.cifs in order to mount a
user mount point. I investigated and found this on dmesg:

  [ 53.586709] CIFS: Attempting to mount //localhost/myshare1760
[ 53.586735] CIFS: Unknown mount option "symfollow"

After some more investigation, I noticed that there are both a Debian
and an upstream bug reported about this failure, and that upstream has
  fixed it in util-linux 2.36.2.

I would be nice to have this version in hirsute so that cifs user
  mounts can work again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1892516] Re: uuidgen possible problem with v3 uuids

Title:
uuidgen possible problem with v3 uuids

Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Generating a version 3 uuid on Ubuntu appears to be producing
inconsistent output compared to online checkers and versions of this
tool compiled on different OSs. E.g.

  On U18.04.5
uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -m (version 3 using md5)
  3f46ae03-c654-36b0-855d-cd0aa042c9f2

uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -s (version 5 with sha1)
  b84ed8ed-a7b1-502f-83f6-90132e68adef

  On Gentoo,
uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -m
  3f46ae03-c654-36b0-a55d-cd0aa042c9f2 (note a55d rather than 855d)

uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -s
  b84ed8ed-a7b1-502f-83f6-90132e68adef

  On raspbian
uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -m
3f46ae03-c654-36b0-a55d-cd0aa042c9f2 (note a55d same as on gentoo)

uuidgen --namespace @dns --name 'foo' -s
  b84ed8ed-a7b1-502f-83f6-90132e68adef

  Looking at this https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/issues/683

gave me pause to see if I could replicate this similar problem
On Ubuntu, using the python library I get
  python -c "import uuid ;
print(uuid.uuid3(uuid.UUID('6ba7b810-9dad-11d1-80b4-00c04fd430c8'), 'foo'))"
  3f46ae03-c654-36b0-a55d-cd0aa042c9f2

The same result is returned on raspbian and Gentoo.

This makes me wonder if there's a problem with the uuidgen tool, as
python is giving me consistent results on all three OS's and agrees
with the uuidgen tool in Gentoo and Raspbian and also agrees with the
  output of this webtool

  https://uuidonline.com/

  and this

  https://www.uuidtools.com/v3

Ubuntu is producing a different result.

Title:
Screen blank when waking from suspend, have to move mouse to make

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1906166] [NEW] Acroread prints only first page of a range (recent change in behaviour)

2020-11-29 Thread Bernard Moreton
Public bug reported:

This problem has occurred before

https://www.spinics.net/linux/fedora/fedora-users/msg439365.html
proposed "In Adobe Reader 9:

Choose File > Print.
Click on Advanced.
Under Font and Resource Policy, select Send for Each Page."
but this does not solve the problem, and the change is not persistent anyway.

This bug report (sorry, I know RedHat is different!)
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1008166
where the problem was traced to a cups filter
" I updated to cups-filters-1.0.41-4.fc20, and this fixed my acroread
printing problem: ranges are now printed well."

which is why I report the bug against cups, not against Acroread - which
of course is 3rd-party anyway. As I say, printing worked ok until
recently. Evince prints the same documet ok on the same printer - but
isn't so good on booklet printing.

" I updated to cups-filters-1.0.41-4.fc20, and this fixed my acroread
printing problem: ranges are now printed well."

which is why I report the bug against cups, not against Acroread -
which of course is 3rd-party anyway. As I say, printing worked ok
until recently. Evince prints the same documet ok on the same printer
  - but isn't so good on booklet printing.

[Asus ZenBook UX425IA] No sound (Dummy Output) unless I reinstall

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My Xubuntu 20.10 installation has no sound (Dummy Output) unless I
  reinstall pulseaudio after every reboot.

pulseaudio does survive a suspend. Just a hard reset or power cycle
  causes it to fail.

  How I re-install pulseaudio:

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall pulseaudio

I have tried just killing the pulseaudio service, and letting it
restart on it's own. It restarts, but no audio. Reinstalling seems to
  do the trick though.

Note: File samples are after reinstalling. (working state)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861358] Re: tracker search hangs and never returns results

2020-11-29 Thread Christoph Gohle
I have to correct myself. Using selective upgrades the correct upgrade
command is

$ sudo apt upgrade libtracker-miner-2.0-0/focal-proposed libtracker-
control-2.0-0/focal-proposed libtracker-sparql-2.0-0/focal-proposed
tracker/focal-proposed

in this case tracker installs correctly and seems to work.

Cheers,
Christoph

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861358] Re: tracker search hangs and never returns results

2020-11-29 Thread Christoph Gohle
I have teste the package from focal proposed.

I confirm that searches work with the updated package. However, tracker-
miner-fs and tracker-extract get removed when installing because of the
update to libtracker-control and libtracker-sparql. This should be fixed
before backporting.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1906091

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Bug description:
In my app I have segfault due to conflict of libx264-148 vs libx264-152.
I use gstreamer and libopencv_videoio in my project.
  System is Ubuntu 18.04.5

The problem is that versions of libx264 get mixed due to implicit
  linking.

  Libraries are linked like this:
  gstreamer -> x264enc -> libx264-152
  libopencv_videoio -> libavcodec-ffmpeg.so.56 -> libx264-148

Both opencv-based code and gstreamer-based code works well if used
  separately.

At the top of backtrace I see:

If I use objdump I can find x264_add8x8_idct_avx2.skip_prologue in
  both libx264-148 and libx264-152

Here is example code which fails (C++ needed):

app->loop = g_main_loop_new (NULL, TRUE);

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails due to useless immediate configuration error when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-11-29 Thread Alx
Hi all. @jsl1 . I have found a workaround which worked for me.
- clean install
- usb stick with 20.10

1. boot usb
2. Select LIVE boot (don't install right away)
3. When in linux run apt update && apt upgrade
4. Run the install-linux on desktop
5. When asked, do no select "third party drivers"

This worked for me. After install, went in to settings and added third party
drivers (nvidia)
All is working good.

system: intel i7-8700K and nVidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Installations that really succeeded would then fail because APT could not
immediately configure a package. Which is a pointless way to fail at that
point, because everything did work out anyway.

So what we do is change that to a warning.

  [Test case]
Not available right now. Issues can flare up and then disappear again.

  [Regression potential]
It's imaginable that we missed something somewhere and some path that checked
for a set error doesn't check it anymore, and we report success when we hit an
error, but it seems unlikely.

Behavior of --simulate changes. This used to fail before as well, and
will now only produce a warning. We don't believe that is a reason of
  concern.

  [Groovy SRU]
The groovy SRU is a sync of the 2.1.11 micro release from Debian unstable
which also incorporates changes to the documentation: A typo fix, replacing
focal with groovy in examples, and minor Dutch manual pages translation updates.

We do not have test cases for the documentation changes, and we do not
consider there to be a huge regression potential. As long as they
build, they should be readable - maybe some words are wrong in the
  translation, who knows.

  [Original bug report]
  Test Case
  1. Install Ubuntu Desktop on hardware with an nVidia card and select to
install 3rd party drivers
  2. Proceed with installation

if possible, this dependency to be made optional for vim builds ? Surprisingly,
installing vim-nox also pulls in libcanberra0. vim-tiny does not pull in
libcanberra0, but it also does not have syntax highlighting. What should I do
to have syntax highlighting without libcanberra0 overhead ?
