[Touch-packages] [Bug 1910961] [NEW] Let user choose browser to install / Remove fixed firefox dependency
Public bug reported: Hi, I know this is a really core feature of a distribution, and I'm not sure it's the best place to open this discussion, but I'd like to open the idea to have the possibility that the user can choose not to install firefox by default, or even better let the user choose his browser at installation time. Why people would want not to use firefox by default ? * It's been lagging in speed and stability compared to other browser. I've often have some tabs crash, I have to open a new tab copy/pasting the same URL. * Mozilla was advertising a advocate for free speech and internet neutrality. Many people would have different views on this, but latest message from their blog seems they support content being pushed to users "Turn on by default the tools to amplify factual voices over disinformation" ** https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2021/01/08/we-need-more-than-deplatforming/ ** https://twitter.com/mozilla/status/1347633954497548289 * Third-party cookie is still being a thing. It's something that should have been removed since a long time already, and a push to remove its support is actually being pushed by Apple/Safari and Google/Chrome, and not so actively by Mozilla. There are alternative full opensource browser that user would like to have by default. ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910961 Title: Let user choose browser to install / Remove fixed firefox dependency Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi, I know this is a really core feature of a distribution, and I'm not sure it's the best place to open this discussion, but I'd like to open the idea to have the possibility that the user can choose not to install firefox by default, or even better let the user choose his browser at installation time. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910938] Re: Ubuntu don't show text anymore
Please: 1. Try disabling/uninstalling any gnome-shell extensions you might have installed. 2. Attach a photo or screenshot of the problem. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910938 Title: Ubuntu don't show text anymore Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hello [happy new year :) ! ] Text information in the Ubuntu dialogs aren't displayed, or some times just a part of it. I don't see the hours, but i see the icons like Firefox actually opened, my battery etc. and notifications are empty (just the "!" icon). Text normally displayed when mouse-hover the applications icons is not displayed, when Ubuntu ask for my password the frame display only 3 or 4 characters, when i put the computer in standby and reopen it doesn't change anything, and the bullets of my password aren't displayed when i login. The text normally displayed on the menus aren't displayed too, same for the application menu (when hitting the bottom left corner button) and icons of applications (like Discord options on the top right of the screen). The only text from xorg that is displayed (if it's from xorg…) is the window's title (like "#Room - Discord" for Discord application, or "me@computer: ~/" above the terminal). What is left works : Firefox can display text, and text is displayed in settings for example. P.S: a reboot solved the problem. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910840] Re: Xorg freeze
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910840 Title: Xorg freeze Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After login the screen freezes with mouse pointer duplicating. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910537] Re: incorrect audio-EDID on HDMI, blocking audio transmission over HDMI
Thanks. That EDID seems to mention stereo audio support. So that's good. But also I wonder if the DRM property needs tweaking. Please try running this command: xrandr --output HDMI-1 --set audio on If it still doesn't work then try logging in again after that. You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is a complicated thing. I have a very specific problem with audio output on HDMI. I want to use an older notebook with Lubuntu 20.04 as a video source for libreoffice slides, videos etc. to feed them over HDMI into a Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer) as one input. Configured on the desktop just like a second screen or beamer. Video works well and rock-stable, no problem at all. But not audio. Although I carefully configured audio with pavucontrol to be directed to the HDMI output, the ATEM switcher does not recognize it as an audio source (like when connecting a digital camera) and does not receive or indicate any audio input. Note: But when I use the very same computer, same HDMI cable, same video with a cheap chinese portable LCD screen with speakers (i.e. pull the cable from the ATEM and plug it into the screen) it immediately starts playing both video and audio. So there is evidence that the ubuntu notebook definitely passes it's sound to HDMI and there's really an audio signal on the HDMI. I've opened a bug at Blackmagic Design, and got their reply that they can't help and have never heard of such a problem before. Their guess is that the linux notebook is not setting EDID configuration correctly and thus not recognized by the ATEM, while the cheap LCD screen propably does not care about EDID and just plays everything, therefore a wrong EDID information would not matter. Although I have decades of experience with Linux, I am not too familiar with details of HDMI and the internals of the X11 driver, so I'm not sure where to start debugging, not even, whether this is a problem of Xorg/X11 or pulseaudio. I've checked this with another notebook with much more recent (intel) hardware, which offers dozens of HDMI audio options in the pavucontrol selection menu, but same problem: Video works, but the ATEM does not recognize it as a audio source. Blackmagic Design (they're good in Windows and MacOS, but not Linux) recommended to use an edid manager, whatever this means. Public bug reported: Hello [happy new year :) ! ] Text information in the Ubuntu dialogs aren't displayed, or some times just a part of it. I don't see the hours, but i see the icons like Firefox actually opened, my battery etc. and notifications are empty (just the "!" icon). For example, Google Chrome - half the time I try to load a webpage I get "your connection was interrupted; a network change was detected". After about a half-second, it proceeds to load the webpage, although often doesn't load it properly. This does not affect all websites (likely only those that support ipv6). See https://askubuntu.com/questions/905866/new-ubuntu-17-04-problem- your-connection-was-interrupted for other people experiencing the same bug, both in avahi and Chrome. Disabling ipv6 seems to work as a temporary workaround. I am also not sure whether this bug is caused by avahi, or whether it is just experiencing the most "symptoms". [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910913] [NEW] Deprecating gdebi
Public bug reported: Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. However, it's been 6 years since apt supported installation from a file¹. Let's make it easier on both maintainers and the people who have to install/use `gdebi` and then may need to search nuances, like passing options to dpkg. As far as I read gdebi man page, its functional seems fully covered by apt. The only thing I'm a bit in doubts about is the `root` option. But from my reading of docs, it seems that `gdebi --root=/foo myfile.deb` would be analogous to `apt install -o Dpkg::Options::="--root=/foo" ./myfile.deb`. So, my suggesttion: installing gdebi on currently supported releases should print a deprecation notice that explains how a user can install local files with `apt` instead. Then eventually remove gdebi from repositories. I tried contacting maintainers of gdebi to ask whether it's worth adding a deprecation notice, but haven't found any ways to do that, and so I went straight to creating a report here. 1: https://mvogt.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/apt-1-1-released/ ** Affects: gdebi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Purpose of gdebi is to allow installing packages from a file. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1713017] Re: Enable MIDI support
@henning that sounds great! In which version did you see this? I expect the build would also need the libasound2-dev dependency, which should be in the control file. I remember that indeed an alsa sequencer device was created on connection; I only tested (when submitting this bug) midi controllers that provided midi notes, which could drive a drum synth (not the other direction), but I'd expect both directions to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713017 Title: Enable MIDI support Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Now that bluez has landed with 5.46-0ubuntu2, it would be nice to enable Bluetooth MIDI support. This did not seem to be enabled by default in the build from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/5.46-0ubuntu2 (it found BLE MIDI devices, gatttool could talk to them, but no MIDI device was made; also ldd showed no linkage to libasound.so.2). After recompiling it with libasound2-dev installed and --enable-midi in debian/rules, it worked. Suggestion: add libasound2-dev to bluez dependencies, add --enable- midi to rules. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1910908] [NEW] Web-login page for captive portals not opening on public wireless networks
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Focal Fossa the web page to log on to public wireless networks does not open. Without this, it is not possible to access public networks in cafes and hotels. It neither works with Firefox, Chrome nor Konqueror. I could ping the gateway so the redirection to the web login page seems to fail. In Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10, the login page opens as expected on the same machine.
