Bug description:
  In the past weeks we experienced few systems coming up without started
  dbus-daemon after reboots due to updates.

  The first occurrence happens on January 21th 2021, since this time we
  were experiencing 0 up to 2 machines with this issue on each reboot
  cycle affecting all (approx 20) Ubuntu 20.4 (Focal Fossa) LTS
  machines.

  On January 21th the machines were rebooted due to a kernel update. On
  January 19th there were updates for systemd (systemd:amd64 from
  245.4-4ubuntu3.3 undated to 245.4-4ubuntu3.4) installed.

  The Symptoms seem to be:
  ```
  root@es1:~# systemctl status dbus
  ● dbus.service - D-Bus System Message Bus
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/dbus.service; static; vendor preset:
enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
  TriggeredBy: ● dbus.socket
     Docs: man:dbus-daemon(1)
  ```

  There is no `dbus-daemon` process running any more after reboot.

  The messages in /var/log/syslog:
  ```
  Feb 24 09:21:52 runner1 kernel: [   11.005391] systemd[1]: sockets.target:
Found ordering cycle on dbus.socket/start
  [...]
  Feb 24 09:21:52 runner1 kernel: [   11.012386] systemd[1]: sockets.target:
Job dbus.socket/start deleted to break ordering cycle starting with
sockets.target/start
  ```

  Jounalctl output ends with the dbus-Shutdown before reboot, and it is
  not updated any more.

  When rebooting the affected machine again, this does'nt occur again,
  and the dbus-daemon is started and working again. We experienced this
  on 4 rather different machines on 6 reboot cycles across all Ubuntu
  20.4 (Focal Fossa) LTS machines till now.

  We are not experiencing this on other LTS releases than 20.4.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926050] Re: [radeon] Web benchmark freezing and crashing the system (Xorg crashes in Mesa's r600_dri.so)

2021-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
apport-cli YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927993] Re: Gnome Activities Overview Unresponsive to Mouse or Touchscreen Interaction

2021-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1922353 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922353

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 1922353, so it is being marked as such. Please look at
the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you
can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in
the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may
find.

Title:
  Gnome Activities Overview Unresponsive to Mouse or Touchscreen
  Interaction

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  This also effects the Ubuntu Dock.

  Ubuntu 21.04 installed on a Micosoft Surface Go.

  When invoking the Activities Overview, the overview ceases to be
  responsive to mouse clicks or to touchscreen interaction. The only
  interaction to which it responds is the keyboard.

  Likewise, the Ubuntu Dock also ceases to respond to mouse gestures,
  clicks or to touchscreen interaction.

  Meanwhile, apps continue to respond to both Mouse and Touchscreen
  gestures.

  I haven't yet found a workaround. That said, I experimented yesterday
  with limiting myself to touchscreen interaction and the bug, for the
  period of time that used the system, didn't appear. It's possible that
  there's some kind of conflict between the mouse, touchscreen and
  Wayland usage?

  When used under a Xorg session, this Bug doesn't appear to affect the
  system.

  Notes: I chose Wayland as the affected passage but apparently Wayland
  "does not exist in Ubuntu".

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926050] [NEW] [radeon] Web benchmark freezing and crashing the system (Xorg crashes in Mesa's r600_dri.so)

2021-05-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

Expected behavior: perform the "Basemark Web 3.0" benchmark (Firefox 87
and 88), at most a loss of performance.

Real behavior: the benchmark completely crashes the system in one of the
initial stages (4). The screen presents graphical distortion (it never
happens), intense crashes and sometimes it is solved with the automatic
suspension of the computer (which remains on at times). But it doesn't
usually come back from the crash.

The problem happens with the onboard ATI RADEON 3000 (RS780 driver) and
it happens in both xorg and wayland. Ubuntu and kernel duly updated to
the present date.

Crash moment: WebGL 1.0.2 Test (test 4/20); "Loading scene_uv2.DAE"

Benchmark website: https://web.basemark.com/
Motherboard: GA78LMT
Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

  Fix Committed
Status in python-apt source package in Impish:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  APT in xenial needs to learn about zstd support to enable Launchpad to work
with zstd packages.

  python-apt in all releases needs to be adjusted to pass the compressor
  names instead of programs to ExtractTar, as otherwise, if
  /usr/bin/zstd does not exist, it will pass "false" as the compressor,
  and then ExtractTar fails (same for other compressors).

  On hirsute, the python-apt upload also includes some new
annotations for build-dependencies, as it's a straight upload of the 2.2
  stable series.

  [Test plan]
  The apt regression tests cover the compression methods extensively, including
even stored compressed lists in /var/lib/apt and fetching Packages files
compressed with such methods, for all compression methods.

  The final test is to make apt_inst.DebFile("glibc-doc-
  reference_2.33-0ubuntu2~zstd1_all.deb").control.extractall() from
  1923845 work in python3-apt.

  For hirsute, the build dependency changes will verify themselves
  during the build ;)

  [Where problems could occur]

  APT:

  The changes to APT are adding the zstd compression backend to FileFd
  and then linking it into the configuration. The former is adding new
  code, triggered only on zstd files, and should not be able to cause
  regressions.

  The latter is a bunch of small lines here and there, and it caused
  issues during backporting in the test suite because it expected
  compressors in a specific order. However, chances are that nothing
  else has as stringent requirements as the test suite, so I don't
  believe that is a problem for existing users.

  Bugs can of course be in the code dealing with zstd, and that might
  open you up to security vulnerabilities in the zstd code if you pass
  APT zstd compressed files.

  A regression can be if clients used apt-helper cat-file to cat a zstd-
  compressed file ending in .zst - they'll now get uncompressed content,
  rather than compressed.

  python-apt:

  The change just replaces Binary with Name, aligning the code with APT
  itself, so it's so trivial, we don't expect regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927796] Re: [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix

2021-05-10 Thread Mark Cunningham
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]
  There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock
down even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous
logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71).

- There are already two customer cases from the US Army complaining about
- this behavior
-
(https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03vkq4QAA/view
- and
-
https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03tkbmQAA/view).
+ There are already two customer cases from Canonical clients complaining
+ about this behavior (00297697 and 00303806).

  Also, potentially, this will cause further problems in the future, since
  both STIG benchmarks and CIS benchmarks rely on pam_tally2 to lock
  accounts when wrong passwords are used. And both benchmarks - but
  specially STIG - requires use of a lot of audit rules, which can lead to
  the busy node environment.

  The issue impacts all pam_tally2 versions distributed in all currently
  supported Ubuntu versions and also the next unreleased one. Note that,
  according to https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71, there is
  no plan to fix this issue!

  [FIX]
  This fix proposes to add pam_faillock module to the PAM package, so users of
pam_tally2 having issues can migrate to pam_faillock. We also plan to modify
the current STIG benchmarks to rely on pam_faillock instead of pam_tally2, but
in order to do so, we need the pam_faillock module to be available.

  Note that we don't propose to remove pam_tally2, since not every user of
  this module is affected.

  [TEST]
  Tested on a VM installed with Focal server iso and on another with Bionic
server iso. Enabled pam_faillock module as recommeded by its man page. Then
tried to log over ssh with an incorrect password, until the account got locked.
Waited for the configured grace time to unlock and logged in using the correct
password.

  Note that, since the pam_tally2 issue is caused by a racing condition,
  with a hard to recreate environment (we could not even reproduce it with
  pam_tally2), we could not reproduce the conditions to test pam_faillock
  with.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
  The regression potential for this is small, since we're not removing the old
pam_tally2 module, just adding another one. So anyone still using pam_tally2
will be able to do so.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927796] Re: [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix

2021-05-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Title:
  [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password.
  pam_faillock use is the recommended fix

Status in pam package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [IMPACT]
  There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock
down even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous
logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71).

  There are already two customer cases from Canonical clients
  complaining about this behavior (00297697 and 00303806).

  Also, potentially, this will cause further problems in the future,
  since both STIG benchmarks and CIS benchmarks rely on pam_tally2 to
  lock accounts when wrong passwords are used. And both benchmarks - but
  specially STIG - requires use of a lot of audit rules, which can lead
  to the busy node environment.

  The issue impacts all pam_tally2 versions distributed in all currently
  supported Ubuntu versions and also the next unreleased one. Note that,
  according to https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71, there
  is no plan to fix this issue!

  Note that we don't propose to remove pam_tally2, since not every user
  of this module is affected.

  [TEST]
  Tested on a VM installed with Focal server iso and on another with Bionic
server iso. Enabled pam_faillock module as recommeded by its man page. Then
tried to log over ssh with an incorrect password, until the account got locked.
Waited for the configured grace time to unlock and logged in using the correct
password.

  Note that, since the pam_tally2 issue is caused by a racing condition,
  with a hard to recreate environment (we could not even reproduce it
  with pam_tally2), we could not reproduce the conditions to test
  pam_faillock with.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
  The regression potential for this is small, since we're not removing the old
pam_tally2 module, just adding another one. So anyone still using pam_tally2
will be able to do so.

  The final test is to make apt_inst.DebFile("glibc-doc-
  reference_2.33-0ubuntu2~zstd1_all.deb").control.extractall() from
  1923845 work in python3-apt.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927078] Re: Don't allow useradd to use fully numeric names

2021-05-10 Thread Steve Beattie
The Ubuntu Security team is +1 on disallowing purely numeric usernames,
as they are too easily confused with UIDs.

I think our preference would be to disallow leading numeric digits
entirely so that for example, 0x0 and 0o0 would be blocked as well, to
try to prevent both user and programmatic confusion.

Probably adduser should also be made consistent with whatever change is
made to useradd. The package provided adduser.conf files do have a
NAME_REGEX option (in addition to the --force-badname option) but AFAICT
is commented out by default (the commented out regex is
"^[a-z][-a-z0-9_]*\$" but I'm not sure that's appropriate in a UTF-8
world.)

It would be good to have testcase and documentation for this captured
somewhere.

  [Description]

  Fully numeric names support in Ubuntu is inconsistent in Focal onwards
  because systemd does not like them[1] but are still allowed by default
  by useradd, leaving the session behavior in hands of the running
  applications. Two examples:

  1. After creating a user named "0", the user can log in via ssh or
  console but loginctl won't create a session for it:

  root@focal:/home/ubuntu# useradd -m 0
  root@focal:/home/ubuntu# id 0
  uid=1005(0) gid=1005(0) groups=1005(0)

  ..

  $ loginctl
  No sessions.
  $ w

  USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
  0pts/0192.168.122.116:170.00s  0.00s  0.00s w

  And pam-systemd shows the following message:

  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for
user 0 by (uid=0)
  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): pam-systemd
initializing
  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to get
user record: Invalid argument

  2. With that same username, every successful authentication in gdm will loop
back to gdm again instead of starting gnome, making the user unable to login.

  Making useradd fail (unless --badnames is set) when a fully numeric name is
used will make the default OS behavior consistent.

  [Other info]

  - Upstream does not support fully numeric usernames
  - useradd has a --badnames parameter that would still allow the use of these
type of names

  Making useradd fail (unless --badnames is set) when a fully numeric name is

  [Other info]

  - Upstream does not support fully numeric usernames
  - useradd has a --badnames parameter that would still allow the use of these
type of names

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926437] Autopkgtest regression report (python-apt/2.0.0ubuntu0.20.04.5)

2021-05-10 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted python-apt (2.0.0ubuntu0.20.04.5) for
focal have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

apt-clone/0.4.1ubuntu3 (ppc64el, amd64, arm64, s390x, armhf)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures,

  /usr/bin/zstd does not exist, it will pass "false" as the compressor,

  On hirsute, the python-apt upload also includes some new
annotations for build-dependencies, as it's a straight upload of the 2.2
  stable series.

  [Test plan]
  The apt regression tests cover the compression methods extensively, including
even stored compressed lists in /var/lib/apt and fetching Packages files
compressed with such methods, for all compression methods.

  The final test is to make apt_inst.DebFile("glibc-doc-
  reference_2.33-0ubuntu2~zstd1_all.deb").control.extractall() from
  1923845 work in python3-apt.

  For hirsute, the build dependency changes will verify themselves

  regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928001] [NEW] [SRU] New stable release 2.68.1

2021-05-10 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

[ Description ]

Take this new upstream stable release.

* Fix a crash in `GKeyFile` when parsing a file which contains translations
  using a `GKeyFile` instance which has loaded another file previously (#2361)

* Pin GIO DLL in memory on Windows (!2016)

* Bugs fixed:
 - #2361 g_key_file_load_from_file segfaults on "Key[*]="like lines
 - !1997 Backport !1996 “Include glibconfig.h to get the G_OS_UNIX token” to
glib-2-68
 - !2016 GIO W32: Pin gio DLL
 - !2021 Backport MR !2016 (GIO W32: Pin gio DLL) into glib-2-68
 - !2022 Few fixes and notes for building on Visual Studio 2012 and earlier
 - !2034 Backport MR !2032 (gkeyfile: Drop a redundant check) into glib-2-68
 - !2035 Backport !2026 “Split g_test_log() messages that contain multiple
lines” to glib-2-68

[ QA ]

Upstream release, so QA already performed by maintainers

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

This upload will trigger many autopkgtests that we expect to not be
regressed by this upload.

[ What could go wrong ]

This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be
affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some
functions returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime
implications, up to the system simply crashing all the time.

Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop
that you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop,
that's already tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like
GNOME terminal, Files and Epiphany.

  note that if the patches are applied, this bug is bypassed; i.e. if

  Add support for Intel Jasper Lake, Alder Lake

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libdrm source package in Focal:

Status in libdrm source package in Hirsute:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  There is a new minor release available, which adds support for i915
  Jasper Lake (JSL) and Alder Lake S (ADL-S), among other things.

  With this added, JSL can boot hirsute with the native driver.

  [Test case]

  Boot on JSL/ADL hardware, check that the native drm/dri driver is used
  (mesa support is already included).

  [What could go wrong]

  The worst case would be that the native driver would not be used
  anymore with this version, but there's no chance for that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926843] Re: online accounts integration with fb isn't working

2021-05-10 Thread Lars Martin Hambro
But can you confirm:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:folke-schwinning/personal
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install desktop-facebook

 sudo apt install npm nodejs-legacy git

https://snapcraft.io/install/facebook-webapp/ubuntu

Its this safe as worksaground or may is get safety issue?
I want replacement for linux, because windows 10 android works with facebook
but did no know how becauce is hard to get to works with wine HQ or other
software?

Because i did not know if APT get or other repo is protected other than
wrong repo to old config, because some software may be maded only
because developer get money for works with other company that get money
on password leaks or other. Not sure if some of apps if safe because it
can come software bugs to safety also.

Or is snap\apt-get safe with install apps?

  online accounts integration with fb isn't working

Status in gnome-online-accounts package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * Impact

  The online accounts setting are proposing a facebook item which isn't
  working

  * Test case

  Go to settings -> online account, browse the accounts option proposed,
  facebook shouldn't be in the list since it doesn't work.

  * Regression potential

  The change is to disable the facebook provider using the upstream
  provided build option. Check that facebook isn't listed anymore but
  that the other providers still are. Since it's a build option change
  it could fail to build so check for that as well on launchpad.

  Since the facebook service currently doesn't consider gnome-online-
  accounts as a valid client there should be no user with that provider
  configured. Even if there were since the service isn't working they
  would see a functional regression.

  Hi i tryed to use gnome-control-center online-accounts to make easy
  like windows 10 to login to email or add other login so its more easy
  with ID to use pincode or other ID fingerprint and other.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 58002] Re: Some programs create root-owned files in user $HOME when run under sudo

2021-05-10 Thread Barin Montpris
I know it's been a long time since the original bug was reported and the
last message was posted. However, I am unable to reproduce this bug on
Ubuntu 20.04.2. Perhaps that's because I already have everything
mentioned here as my own user. If I rename ~/.vimrc and ~/.viminfo and
then run `sudo vi /etc/apt/source.list`, then a default .vimrc and
.viminfo are not created in my user directory. I can also see that
there is still nothing in /etc/skel related to vim.

It has been 8 years and things do change. I've only been using vim for
a couple of years, so it's quite possible that the ~/.vimrc isn't
created upon first running `vi` or `vim` anymore.

What should we do with this bug?

  The first time I noticed this I thought I'd done something wrong. But
  5 installations later, my .viminfo is always owned by root, causing
  certain things to malfunction or not function at all. For example I
  can't copy and paste text (vim-style) from one file to another, and
  despite my .vimrc magic my cursor is always on line 1, column 1 when I
  open a file.

Hi, I went a bit down the rabbit hole Sergio mentioned and found the
same old reports and nothing really useful. I'd also be curios to see if
the problem still occurs with the newer releases.

Did you see this happen on more that one machine/deployment?

The backtrace didn't suggest my anything, but maybe Sergio will have
better use for it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926843] Re: online accounts integration with fb isn't working

2021-05-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
> its because facebook did not want to use it on linux or safety issue?

no, it's the code in gnome-online-accounts which isn't properly
maintained upstream at the moment, they would need to do changes to the
code and follow the registration process for the service

Ideally that would be fixed and enabled, but until that happens it's
less misleading to not propose the option than to have one that isn't
working

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914279] Please test proposed package

2021-05-10 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected,

Accepted iptables-netflow into focal-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iptables-
netflow/2.4-2ubuntu0.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

  Automatically retry downloads on failures

Bug description:
  Hi,

  We operate archive.ubuntu.com as well as mirrors of it in various
  places. We're getting reports of various CI/CD jobs failing. Sometimes
  due to routing issues, issues with overloaded servers/VMs hosting
  archive, etc.

  Any chance we can make '-o Acquire::Retries=3' the default for 'apt-
  get update/install/dist-upgrade'? Preferably with a randomised skew
  between retries.

  Also, any chance of having apt-get retry with different IPs/hosts
  returned from the DNS lookup? (e.g. for archive.ubuntu.com -
  91.189.88.142, 91.189.88.152, ...).

  Thanks.

  The final test is to make apt_inst.DebFile("glibc-doc-
  reference_2.33-0ubuntu2~zstd1_all.deb").control.extractall() from
  1923845 work in python3-apt.

  A regression can be if clients used apt-helper cat-file to cat a zstd-
  compressed file ending in .zst - they'll now get uncompressed content,
  rather than compressed.

  python-apt:

  The change just replaces Binary with Name, aligning the code with APT
  itself, so it's so trivial, we don't expect regressions.

  x509 Certificate verification fails when

  Fix Released
Status in openssl source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed
Status in openssl source package in Groovy:
  Fix Committed
Status in openssl source package in Hirsute:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  In openssl 1.1.1f, the below commit was merged:

  commit ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7
  Author: Bernd Edlinger
  Date:   Sat Jan 4 15:54:53 2020 +0100
  Subject: Fix error handling in x509v3_cache_extensions and related functions
  Link:
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7

  This introduced a regression which caused certificate validation to
  fail when certificates violate RFC 5280 [1], namely, when a
  certificate has "basicConstraints=CA:FALSE,pathlen:0". This
  combination is commonly seen by self-signed leaf certificates with an
  intermediate CA before the root CA.

  Because of this, openssl 1.1.1f rejects these certificates and they
  cannot be used in the system certificate store, and ssl connections
  fail when you try to use them to connect to a ssl endpoint.

  The error you see when you try verify is:

  $ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem -untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem
  error 20 at 0 depth lookup: unable to get local issuer certificate
  error user1_cert.pem: verification failed

  The exact same certificates work fine on Xenial, Bionic and Hirsute.

  [1] https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5280.html

  [Testcase]

  We will create our own root CA, intermediate CA and leaf server
  certificate.

  Create necessary directories:

  $ mkdir reproducer
  $ cd reproducer
  $ mkdir CA

  Write openssl configuration files to disk for each CA and cert:

  $ cat << EOF >> rootCA.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test RSA PSS Root-CA

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:TRUE
  keyUsage= critical,keyCertSign,cRLSign
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  $ cat << EOF >> subCA.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test RSA PSS Sub-CA

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:TRUE,pathlen:0
  keyUsage= critical,keyCertSign,cRLSign
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  $ cat << EOF >> user.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test User

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:FALSE,pathlen:0
  keyUsage= critical,digitalSignature,keyAgreement
  extendedKeyUsage= clientAuth,serverAuth
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  Then generate the necessary RSA keys and form certificates:

  $ openssl genpkey -algorithm RSA-PSS -out rootCA_key.pem -pkeyopt
rsa_keygen_bits:2048
  $ openssl req -config rootCA.cnf -set_serial 01 -new -batch -sha256 -nodes
-x509 -days 9125 -out CA/rootCA_cert.pem -key rootCA_key.pem -sigopt
rsa_padding_mode:pss -sigopt rsa_pss_saltlen:-1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927161] Autopkgtest regression report (openssl/1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.4)

2021-05-10 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted openssl (1.1.1f-1ubuntu4.4) for groovy
have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

libcrypt-ssleay-perl/0.73.06-1build3 (arm64)
resource-agents/1:4.6.1-1ubuntu2 (s390x)
puma/3.12.4-1ubuntu2 (arm64)
uftp/4.10.2-1 (amd64)
python3.8/3.8.6-1ubuntu0.2 (arm64)
ecflow/5.5.1-1 (s390x)
python3.9/3.9.0-5 (amd64)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures,
proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding
autopkgtest regressions [1].

  Test builds are available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/lp1927161-test

  [regression potential]

  any regression would likely cause a failed build or would affect the
  functionality that patch pr12272 was added for, which is adding
  support for Intel CET

  [scope]

  this is needed only for g and later

  this is caused by the bad patch 'pr12272.patch' which is only included
  in g/h/i, so this does not apply to f or earlier

  [other info]

  note that if the patches are applied, this bug is bypassed; i.e. if
  'quilt pop -a' is removed from the test case above, the bug doesn't
  reproduce. this is only a problem when the patches aren't already
  applied and dpkg-buildpackage needs to call dpkg-source to apply the
  patches.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927940] [NEW] [LINCPLUS P1, Intel Geminilake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2021-05-10 Thread chris109
Public bug reported:

It's a notebook with internal audio and HDMI. The sound card cant be
used at all. Pulse audio only shows "Dummy Output".

Adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-

still won't appear.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914279] Re: linux from security may force reboots without complete dkms modules

2021-05-10 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
virtualbox-hwe/6.1.16-dfsg-6ubuntu1.20.04.2 (s390x, ppc64el, armhf,
arm64) -> is a false negative. virtualbox-hwe is only supported on amd64
i thought.

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/v/virtualbox
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/v/virtualbox-hwe

Suggests that to be the case.

Bug description:
  Whilst discussing

  https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/improvements-for-hardware-support-in-
  ubuntu-desktop-installation-media/20606

  We have noticed a reference to somebody not having working backport-
  iwlwifi-dkms, whilst SRU of that happened before the v5.4 -> v5.8
  switch.

  However, kernel meta switch was pushed to security pocket, but the
  dkms modules are all in -updates only.

  This may result in people automatically installing the new kernel with
  unatanded upgrades; dkms modules failing to build; and a reboot
  required flag left on disk.

  At this point launching update manager will not offer to install dkms
  modules from updates, and will guide the users to reboot. which
  will then cause them to boot the new kernel without the dkms modules
  that might be providing networking for them.

  Should dkms modules SRUs always getting published into -security
  pocket, as well as the -updates pocket?

  Should linux maintainer scripts prevent touching reboot required flag
  if any dkms modules fail to build?

  Should apt / unattanded-upgrades / update-manager always update dkms
  modules with kernels?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926437] Re: [SRU] Backport zstd support, fix bug in python-apt

2021-05-10 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Julian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-apt into hirsute-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-
apt/2.2.0~ubuntu0.21.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

  The final test is to make apt_inst.DebFile("glibc-doc-
  reference_2.33-0ubuntu2~zstd1_all.deb").control.extractall() from
  1923845 work in python3-apt.

Weirdly there was no acceptance comment regarding python-apt for xenial,
but I confirm that the package has been accepted into xenial-proposed 10
days ago. Let's adjust the status.

Julian, what about the failing autopkgtests for python-apt? Did you have
a moment to take a look at those?

  x509 Certificate verification fails when
  basicConstraints=CA:FALSE,pathlen:0 on self-signed leaf certs

  Fix Released
Status in openssl source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed
Status in openssl source package in Groovy:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  In openssl 1.1.1f, the below commit was merged:

  commit ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7
  Author: Bernd Edlinger
  Date:   Sat Jan 4 15:54:53 2020 +0100
  Subject: Fix error handling in x509v3_cache_extensions and related functions
  Link:
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7

  This introduced a regression which caused certificate validation to
  fail when certificates violate RFC 5280 [1], namely, when a
  certificate has "basicConstraints=CA:FALSE,pathlen:0". This
  combination is commonly seen by self-signed leaf certificates with an
  intermediate CA before the root CA.

  Because of this, openssl 1.1.1f rejects these certificates and they
  cannot be used in the system certificate store, and ssl connections
  fail when you try to use them to connect to a ssl endpoint.

  The error you see when you try verify is:

  $ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem -untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem
  error 20 at 0 depth lookup: unable to get local issuer certificate
  error user1_cert.pem: verification failed

  The exact same certificates work fine on Xenial, Bionic and Hirsute.

  [1] https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5280.html

  [Testcase]

  We will create our own root CA, intermediate CA and leaf server
  certificate.

  Create necessary directories:

  $ mkdir reproducer
  $ cd reproducer
  $ mkdir CA

  Write openssl configuration files to disk for each CA and cert:

  $ cat << EOF >> rootCA.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test RSA PSS Root-CA

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:TRUE
  keyUsage= critical,keyCertSign,cRLSign
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  $ cat << EOF >> subCA.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test RSA PSS Sub-CA

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:TRUE,pathlen:0
  keyUsage= critical,keyCertSign,cRLSign
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  $ cat << EOF >> user.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  [ req_distinguished_name ]
  C  = DE
  O  = Test Org
  CN = Test User

  [ usr_cert ]
  basicConstraints= critical,CA:FALSE,pathlen:0
  keyUsage= critical,digitalSignature,keyAgreement
  extendedKeyUsage= clientAuth,serverAuth
  subjectKeyIdentifier= hash
  authorityKeyIdentifier  = keyid:always
  EOF

  Then generate the necessary RSA keys and form certificates:

  $ openssl genpkey -algorithm RSA-PSS -out rootCA_key.pem -pkeyopt
rsa_keygen_bits:2048
  $ openssl req -config rootCA.cnf -set_serial 01 -new -batch -sha256 -nodes
-x509 -days 9125 -out CA/rootCA_cert.pem -key rootCA_key.pem -sigopt

  $ openssl genpkey -algorithm RSA-PSS -out subCA_key.pem -pkeyopt

  $ openssl req -config subCA.cnf -new -out subCA_req.pem -key subCA_key.pem

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927919] [NEW] Screen flicker, sections going dark, icons and filenames vanishing, flickering or looking jumbled up

2021-05-10 Thread Rudi van Vuuren
Public bug reported:

Started about 2 weeks ago, tried reinstalling Ubuntu20lts as fix yet issue
persists.
I can't use terminal because whatever I type, after the third letter things
vanish, or become jumbled and impossible to recognise.
Attempted updating intel drivers but wasn't successful, I'm not the best at
this sort of thing.

Yeah I thought so. The problem was obvious a while back but has been
gone for a couple of months or so.

Bug description:
  When resizing any window in any direction the window can appear glitchy as
presented in the screenshot.
  This glitchy appearance is restored immediately.
  The issue seems to be seen less often when the CPU is utilized more heavily,
as when I recorded the screen with OBS to grab the screenshot.
  The screenshots shows gnome-system-monitor, but I could trigger it with
Firefox, gnome-terminal and others.

  No such issues were experienced with previously installed Ubuntu Mate
  or Windows 10.

Just upgrade, I just tried Ubuntu again and I didn't get the problem
this time. Looks like it's fixed in Ubuntu
