[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945713] Re: Flaky test brotli/basic on focal amd64?

2021-10-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
As can be seen here, the package doesn't pass its own tests even when
triggered against only itself:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20211004_230503_77208@/log.gz

Title:
  Flaky test brotli/basic on focal amd64?

Status in libsoup2.4 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The brotli/basic test case periodically fails. It appears that a few
  retriggers can result in a pass:

  https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/libs/libsoup2.4/focal/amd64

  The failures look like this in autopkgtest logs:

  ERROR:../tests/brotli-decompressor-test.c:59:test_brotli:
  assertion failed ((char*)out_bytes->data == contents): ("***\nU" ==
  "***\n")

  I've replaced most of the text with '***' to highlight the difference
  is a 'U' character appended.

  The test case is essentially doing a decompression of 'brotli-
  data/compressed.br' and comparing that it matches 'brotli-
  data/uncompressed.txt'. I've done this manually using the brotli cli,
  and the files do indeed have the same content. I've also built the
  package and run the test case locally in a focal lxc container on
  amd64:

  $ cd
libsoup2.4-gu/debian/libsoup2.4-tests/usr/libexec/installed-tests/libsoup-2.4
  $ while : ; do ./brotli-decompressor-test | grep 'brotli/basic';  sleep
0.1; done

  I left that to run several hundred cycles but no failures reported at
  all.

  There are a bunch of instances of this failure, here's a few for
  reference:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20210602_152107_d1d56@/log.gz

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20210531_201241_8b1be@/log.gz

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/libs/libsoup2.4/20200508_211619_2aec8@/log.gz

  That last link is the earliest instance I've been able to find.

  You'll notice in the second two links they also have a failure "not ok
  2 /ssl/tls-interaction", but the first link shows only the brotli
  failure.

  Interestingly, I've not found instances of this failure against other
  architectures than amd64, nor have I seen it on releases other than
  focal. No dice from googling for bug reports or other reports of test
  failures with libsoup2.4 + brotli.

  The test's code is doing this, basically:

  SoupBrotliDecompressor *dec = soup_brotli_decompressor_new ();
  do {
  result = g_converter_convert (G_CONVERTER (dec), in_buf,
length, out_buf, sizeof out_buf, 0,
&bytes_read, &bytes_written,
&error);
  g_byte_array_append (out_bytes, out_buf, bytes_written);
in_buf += bytes_read;
  length -= bytes_read;

  } while (result == G_CONVERTER_CONVERTED);

  soup_brotli_decompressor's code is here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libsoup/-/blob/master/libsoup/content-
  decoder/soup-brotli-decompressor.c

  But I'm not spotting anything that would obviously cause a 'U' to be
  randomly appended sometimes. And why 'U'? UINT? Unknown? User error?

  There are some interesting bug reports in GNOME about brotli in
  libsoup's bug tracker (e.g. #106, #146, #119, and #193), but none that
  match this.

  Unable to stop at breakpoint in 32-bit executable

Status in gdb package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I believe I'm having the problem described in #1846557 and #1848200.
  Those bugs were reported fixed in 8.1.1 but I'm observing them in 9.2
  so I suspect a regression (in fact, if I read the notes correctly, the
  earlier reports were from another regression!).

  I create a new EC2 server on AWS with Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS (64-bit
  Arm) then perform the following installs (not sure what is needed or
  if something is missing):

  ```
  sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf
  sudo apt update
  sudo apt upgrade -y
  sudo apt install -y build-essential vim binutils-arm-linux-gnueabi \
    gdb libc6:armhf libstdc++6:armhf
  ```

  Then I create hello.s:

  ```
  .text
  .global _start
  _start:
  MOV R7, #4
  MOV R0, #1
  LDR R1, =hello
  LDR R2, =hello_size
  SWI 0
  MOV R7, #1
  SWI 0
  .data
  hello:  .asciz  "Hello world!\n"
  .equhello_size, (.-hello)
  ```

  Then I assemble, link, and run, all with success. Finally, I try to
  debug:

  ```
  $ arm-linux-gnueabi-as -ggdb -mcpu=cortex-a57 -o out.o hello.s
  $ arm-linux-gnueabi-ld out.o -dynamic-linker=/usr/lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3 -o
out
  $ rm out.o
  $ ./out
  Hello world!
  $ gdb out
  GNU gdb (Ubuntu 9.2-0ubuntu1~20.04) 9.2
  ...
  Reading symbols from out...
  (gdb) b _start
  Breakpoint 1 at 0x10074: file hello.s, line 4.
  (gdb) run
  Starting program: /home/ubuntu/280/out
  ```

  At this point everything hangs until I press ^C:

  ```
  ^C
  Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt.
  0xba072284 in ?? ()
  (gdb) bt
  #0  0xba072284 in ?? ()
  #1  0x7232 in ?? ()
  Backtrace stopped: previous frame identical to this frame (corrupt stack?)
  (gdb) l
  1 .text
  2 .global _start
  3 _start:
  4 MOV R7, #4
  5 MOV R0, #1
  6 LDR R1, =hello
  7 LDR R2, =hello_size
  8 SWI 0
  9 MOV R7, #1
  10SWI 0
  (gdb) q
  A debugging session is active.
   Inferior 1 [process 29234] will be killed.
  Quit anyway? (y or n) y
  $
  ```

  It appears that gdb generally works and recognizes the executable, but
  breakpoints don't work. I'm new at Arm and don't have a lot of
  experience with assembly (at least not since the early 1970s), so it
  could easily be my problem but it seems suspiciously like an earlier
  problem and I think what I've done should work.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945527] Please test proposed package

2021-10-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Brian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted tzdata into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/2021a-2ubuntu0.20.04 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: tzdata (Ubuntu Bionic)

Bug description:
  New upstream version affecting the following timestamp:

  $region/$timezone = Pacific/Apia

  Verification is done with 'zdump'. The first timezone that gets
  changed in the updated package is dumped with 'zdump -v
  $region/$timezone_that_changed' (this needs to be greped for in
  /usr/share/zoneinfo/). [For example: 'zdump -v Pacific/Apia'.] This is
  compared to the same output after the updated package got installed.
  If those are different the verification is considered done.

  [Test Case for all releases]
  1) zdump -v Pacific/Apia | grep 2021

  For releases with ICU timezone data verification is done using the following
with dates before and after the change:
  [Test Case for releases >= 20.04 LTS]
  1) sudo apt-get install python3-icu
  2) python3 -c 'from datetime import datetime; from icu import ICUtzinfo,
TimeZone; tz = ICUtzinfo(TimeZone.creat eTimeZone('Pacific/Apia'));
print(str(tz.utcoffset(datetime(2021, 9, 26'

  Additionally, an upstream update of tzdata removed the 'old' SystemV
  timezones, so we should ensure that they are kept in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
  and earlier releases. Subsequently, these should be checked for using
  the following:

  [Test Case for releases <= 20.04 LTS]
  diff <(zdump -v America/Phoenix | cut -d' ' -f2-) <(zdump -v SystemV/MST7 |
cut -d' ' -f2-)

  Nothing should be returned by the above command.

  changed in the updated package is dumped with 'zdump -v
  $region/$timezone_that_changed' (this needs to be greped for in
  /usr/share/zoneinfo/). [For example: 'zdump -v Pacific/Apia'.] This is
  compared to the same output after the updated package got installed.
  If those are different the verification is considered done.

  [Test Case for all releases]
  1) zdump -v Pacific/Apia | grep 2021

  For releases with ICU timezone data verification is done using the following
with dates before and after the change:
  [Test Case for releases >= 20.04 LTS]
  1) sudo apt-get install python3-icu
  2) python3 -c 'from datetime import datetime; from icu import ICUtzinfo,
TimeZone; tz = ICUtzinfo(TimeZone.creat eTimeZone('Pacific/Apia'));
print(str(tz.utcoffset(datetime(2021, 9, 26'

  Additionally, an upstream update of tzdata removed the 'old' SystemV
  timezones, so we should ensure that they are kept in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
  and earlier releases. Subsequently, these should be checked for using
  the following:

  [Test Case for releases <= 20.04 LTS]
  diff <(zdump -v America/Phoenix | cut -d' ' -f2-) <(zdump -v SystemV/MST7 |
cut -d' ' -f2-)

  Nothing should be returned by the above command.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945527] Re: Update tzdata to version 2021a-2

2021-10-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Brian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted tzdata into hirsute-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/2021a-2ubuntu0.21.04 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945817] Re: Change default Amharic font from Abyssinica SIL to Noto Serif Ethiopic

2021-10-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi carnage-mode,

Thanks for your report. We could make it install fonts-noto-core by
default when you install the Amharic language. That package provides
both "Noto Serif Ethiopic" and "Noto Sans Ethiopic".

As a test, can you please run these commands:

sudo apt purge fonts-sil-abyssinica
sudo apt install fonts-noto-core

and let us know if the result is an improved rendering of Amharic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945527] Re: Update tzdata to version 2021a-2

2021-10-04 Thread Brian Murray
tzdata (2021a-2ubuntu1) impish; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- Ship ICU timezone data files which are utilized by php and update them
  to 2021a1.

tzdata (2021a-2) unstable; urgency=critical

  * Set urgency to critical as the Samoa DST change is already effective.
  * Update Provides to tzdata-bookworm.
  * debian/control: remove Adam Conrad from Uploaders. RIP. Closes: #986954.
  * Cherry-pick patches from tadata-2021b until the upstream situation gets
less confused:
- 01-no-leap-second-2021-12-31.patch: No leap second on 2021-12-31 as per
  IERS Bulletin C 62.
- 02-samoa-dst.patch: Samoa no longer observes DST.
- 03-jordan-dst.patch: Jordan now starts DST on February's last Thursday.

for more than 1 year, albeit in this case the risk is very low because the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945894] Re: Translated strings not imported from damned lies

2021-10-04 Thread Ask Hjorth Larsen
Ubuntu presumably ships a particular version of GNOME. I understand
that this version is no longer based on the major (September) release,
but rather a previous minor release, in this case from July. Is that
always the case now and is that documented somewhere?

As can be seen here, the aforementioned 50 translated strings are
missing:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945982] [NEW] Display zoom 125%

2021-10-04 Thread wy
Public bug reported:

The zoom of my notebook monitor is set to 125%. After pressing F11 to
enter the full screen state most of the time, when sliding up / down
quickly, two same windows will appear, one smaller window is in the
upper left corner, and the zoom ratio of the other window becomes larger
(exceeding the screen size).

  Regression: exiv2 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5 makes Gwenview crash when opening

Status in Gwenview:

  Confirmed
Status in gwenview package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Since the recent security update of exiv2, Gwenview crashes when
  trying to open image files that got exported by darktable.

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox
  * Install all updates
  * Install darktable
  * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to
your home directory and open it with darktable
  * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual
modifications)
  * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash.

  I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2.

  Temporary workaround:
  If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so
it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5.

  I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2,
  Gwenview or darktable.

  Kind regards, Jan

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945887] Re: org.bluez.obex.service contains unresolved '@libexecdir@'

Title:
  org.bluez.obex.service contains unresolved '@libexecdir@'

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  After upgrading a machine from Ubuntu Bionic to Ubuntu Focal
  yesterday, the following error message showed up in the syslog:

  Oct  2 23:14:52 desktop01 dbus-daemon[1764]: [session uid=0 pid=1760]
  Activated service 'org.bluez.obex' failed: Failed to execute program
  org.bluez.obex: No such file or directory

  Upon inspection, this was due to the fact that the service definition
  contained the line 'Exec=@libexecdir@/obexd' which could not be
  resolved (this placeholder is supposedly to be replaced at build
  time).

  Replacing '@libexecdir@' with '/usr/lib/bluetooth' resolved this
  (together with 'systemctl --user daemon-reload; systemctl --user
  restart obex').

  Note that this problem should be part of *all* current versions of the
  bluez[-obexd] package, regardless of the used architecture (including
  Focal, Impish):

  Request addition of Fedora / Redhat "sftp-force-permissions" patch

Status in portable OpenSSH:

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:

Status in openssh package in Debian:

Bug description:
  Fedora / Redhat ships openssh with a patch which adds "-m force
  permission" flag to sftp-server.

  This is quite a common feature request / support request on the
  various stackexchange sites -
  https://superuser.com/questions/332284/in-sftp-how-to-set-the-default-
  permission-for-all-files-in-a-folder

  You will see that someone has answered "add -m" there which is indeed
  the simplest answer by a distance but unfortunately it's a non
  standard patch:

  https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/openssh/blob/f34/f/openssh-6.7p1-sftp-
  force-permission.patch

  This I think should supersede #563216 because they have been shipping
  this in production presumably since at least 2015 (I see it in fedora
  22 branch), so it is a known stable patch compared to the one
  suggested there.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1945958] [NEW] neon27: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-10-04 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

Hello,

As part of a rebuild against OpenSSL3, this package failed to build on one or
several architectures. You can find the details of the rebuild at

https://people.canonical.com/~schopin/rebuilds/openssl-3.0.0-impish.html

or for the amd64 failed build, directly at

https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-3.0.0/+build/22099167/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-
impish-amd64.neon27_0.31.2-1.0~ssl3ppa1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz

We're planning to transition to OpenSSL 3.0 for the 22.04 release, and consider
this issue as blocking for this transition.

You can find general migration informations at
https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html
For your tests, you can build against libssl-dev as found in the PPA
schopin/openssl-3.0.0

A PR has been submitted and merged upstream, and is present in the 0.32.x
releases:
https://github.com/notroj/neon/pull/59

** Affects: neon27 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  * The backported patch is simple and it is very unlikely that it will
introduce a regression.
  * As usual, it is always risky to rebuild a package that hasn't been touched
for more than 1 year, albeit in this case the risk is very low because the
package is not very complex.

  [ Original Description ]

  I have apache configured to perform a kerberized NFS4 mount using
  rpc.gssd and gssproxy.

  If I request a web page that requires NFS4 access, then gssproxy
  crashes, reporting a segfault in libselinux.so.1 and the web request
  generates a 403 error.

  gssproxy[6267]: segfault at 0 ip 7f2f5bb1951a sp 7ffe861da150
  error 4 in libselinux.so.1[7f2f5bb0d000+25000]

  If I run gssproxy at debug level = 3, and then load a web page, I can
  see the uid/principal request for www-data come in from rpc.gssd:

  # gssproxy -d --debug-level=3 -i -C /etc/gssproxy

  [2018/08/22 17:51:40]: Debug Enabled (level: 3)
  [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: Client [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: (/usr/sbin/rpc.gssd)
[2018/08/22 17:52:06]:  connected (fd = 10)[2018/08/22 17:52:06]:  (pid = 4548)
(uid = 33) (gid = 33)Segmentation fault (core dumped)

  Since gssproxy is required to initiate kerberos principals for any
  local application services - Ubuntu 18.04 does not currently support
  running application services with NFS4 kerberos dependencies. This
  has a fairly significant impact on anyone attempting to implement
  kerberos on Ubuntu 18.04

  Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  gssproxy 0.8.0-1
  libselinux1:amd64 2.7-2build2

Bug description:
  I can hardly even start describing how screwed up this is.
  Have a look at the screenshot.

  I had seen this before and hadn't even realized that "XT1039 Network"
  repeated like 37 times had something to do with my own Android phone,
  a motorola Moto G. Needless to say I have only one.

  Out of curiosity I clicked on one of "them" (thinking this was some
  neighboor's device, obviously suspecting it was just one device
  repeated several times because of a bug), and then my phone vibrated
  prompting me whether to accept the connection from the computer.

  Which I did. As a result, the bluetooth indicator next to the network
  indicator showed a lock icon for a fraction of a second, which
  immediately disappeared. I guess that means that the computer and the
  phone peered via bluetooth for a few instants. At the same time, the
  wifi icon started animating (as if the computer was connecting to a
  wifi network... or a network of any kind I guess, since the same
  stupidly designed wifi-like animation is used when connecting to LAN
  via an ethernet cable). After that, the small lock below the bluetooth
  icon disappeared, the wifi icon stopped animating and went back to its
  normal "connected" status (I was previously and still connected to my
  home router's wifi network), and a baloon saying "Disconnected [NL]
  Network" appeared and disappeared.

  Then I repeated the test several times with the same result, except
  that the phone didn't prompt me any more to accept the connection.

  This is totally screwed up in several ways.

  First, there's no reason "XT1039 Network" should be listed AT ALL
  together with wifi and ethernet networks. What kind of "network" is it
  supposed to be?? Of course I have not turned on bluetooth tethering on
  the phone, and bluetooth connection to the phone is already available
  under the bluetooth indicator.

  If it makes any sense at all to show the mobile device as a "network"
alongside with wifi and cable networks because, well, bluetooth is a network as
well, then
  1) the list of bluetooth "networks" should have a header, just like "wifi
networks" and "ethernet network". Right now, there is just a list of networks
that you don't know what kind they are
  2) the device should be only listed once, not 37 times
  3) I also suspect the 3 items called just "network" are related
  4) If it is there at all, it must work. What is it supposed to do? The same
as unfolding the menu under the Bluetooth indicator, hovering on the device
there (which is listed only once there) and turning on the "Connection" switch?
That one does work. This one (in the list of networks) doesn't. And if it is
supposed to do something different, it's clearly failing as well.
