[Touch-packages] [Bug 1953719] [NEW] logrotate.service fails because it starts before winbind.service
Public bug reported: I have started to play with Prometheus on my Ubuntu 20.04.3. You can configure Prometheus to alert you when a systemd service fails, and in this way I noticed a problem with the logrotate.service immediately after booting the system. I looked with Cockpit, and Cockpit was reporting logrotate.service as "Failed to start". This is the log for logrotate.service : 8<8<8< Dez 09 08:00:56 rdiez3 systemd[1]: Starting Rotate log files... Dez 09 08:00:58 rdiez3 logrotate[1760]: Can't find pid for destination 'winbindd' Dez 09 08:00:58 rdiez3 logrotate[1069]: error: error running non-shared postrotate script for /var/log/samba/log.winbindd of '/var/log/samba/log.winbindd ' Dez 09 08:00:58 rdiez3 systemd[1]: logrotate.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE Dez 09 08:00:58 rdiez3 systemd[1]: logrotate.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. Dez 09 08:00:58 rdiez3 systemd[1]: Failed to start Rotate log files. 8<8<8< I then looked at winbind.service , which was fine: 8<8<8< Dez 09 08:01:01 rdiez3 systemd[1]: Starting Samba Winbind Daemon... Dez 09 08:01:01 rdiez3 systemd[1]: Started Samba Winbind Daemon. 8<8<8< But I noticed that winbind.service started after logrotate.service . I wonder whether this is a service dependency issue. I am using this PC only during normal working hours, and logrotate.timer is set to run at midnight, when the computer will never be turned on. The worry is that this problem could effectively cause the complete log rotation to stop working. ** Affects: logrotate (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to logrotate in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1953719 Title: logrotate.service fails because it starts before winbind.service Status in logrotate package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have started to play with Prometheus on my Ubuntu 20.04.3. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1952421] Autopkgtest regression report (openssh/1:8.4p1-5ubuntu1.2)
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted openssh (1:8.4p1-5ubuntu1.2) for hirsute have finished running. The function ` `sshkey_equal_public()`` incorrectly compares the certificate's public key with a private key, never finding a match. The impact is that sshd cannot use said certificate *even though* its private key is indeed in ssh-agent. * What it should do is compare the certificate's public key with a public key in `sensitive_data`. * Having this SRU-ed is a direct ask from one of the major cloud partners. They are currently using a customised version of the package to work around this issue, and we would like them to use a package directly from our own archive. * Looping through sensitive_data.host_pubkeys[j] *instead* of sensitive_data.host_keys[j] fixes the issue [https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/blob/V_8_4/sshd.c#L1936] /* Find matching private key */ for (j = 0; j < options.num_host_key_files; j++) { if (sshkey_equal_public(key, sensitive_data.host_keys[j])) { sensitive_data.host_certificates[j] = key; break; } } vs. /* Find matching private key */ for (j = 0; j < options.num_host_key_files; j++) { if (sshkey_equal_public(key, sensitive_data.host_pubkeys[j])) { sensitive_data.host_certificates[j] = key; break; } } [Test Plan] * Due to the empirical nature of this bug, the test is quite straight forward. *Without* the fix, one cannot use certificates to authenticate successfully (e.g. ``sshd -c /path/to/certificate.pem``) whereas with the fix (assuming the certificate matches a host key) you can create a channel. [Where problems could occur] * This has already been fixed both upstream and in Jammy without issue. However, if a regression where to happen it would probably be in one of two ways: * A dependency/reverse-dependency issue stemming from the version bump that will happen if this fix is ported. We mitigate this risk by testing for these exact types of regression, and by selecting carefully what to label this new version. * Accidentally breaking a set up that was made to work around this bug in the first place. The risk of this is lower, as the most likely fix is the one being implemented here anyway. Though to mitigate this more we can describe exactly what is happening with the fix in the changelog. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1849886] Re: lightdm does not work on eoan on raspberry pi 4
Still appears to be here, although it works on arm64? Basically I tested Ubuntu Server 20.04 for the RPi 400, on arm64 (64-bit) typing in "sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop" has a distro that works perfectly fine. However on Ubuntu Server 20.04 for armhf (32-bit), doing the same "sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop" I get the same black screen thing you guys are talking about. Makes sense as xubuntu uses lightdm by default. Although installing slick-greeter also worked around the issue for me. ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849886 Title: lightdm does not work on eoan on raspberry pi 4 Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: if you follow the directions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop about 20% thru the installation it will ask which window manager you want (using dpkg-reconfigure). if you select lightdm, you will only get a blank greeter screen after you reboot. using sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 resets this to gdm3 and after a reboot, everything is fine. this was done on a clean armhf eoan install on a 4gb raspberry pi 4B. I have done the install several times. This bug is repeatable. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1548486] Re: Sleep hook in a subdirectory ignored but causes double execution of previous hook
** Tags removed: server-triage-discuss -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pm-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548486 Title: Sleep hook in a subdirectory ignored but causes double execution of previous hook Status in pm-utils: Won't Fix Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The set of sleep hooks provided in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d includes one (95packagekit/95packagekit) that is stored in a subdirectory. This has two effects: 1the hook is not run; 2the previous hook, currently /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/95led, is run for a second time instead. Presumably #1 is wrong, and results from an installation fault in packagekit, separately reported as bug 1548480. #2 occurs because the function run_hooks() in /usr/lib/pm-utils/pm- functions computes a list of to-be-executed hooks that includes directories but neither fully validates each such hook as a regular file nor handles a set of to-be-executed hooks in a subdirectory. At lines 243 on, there is a code path with no else clause through which the $hook from the previous iteration can be accidentally reused: if [ -f "$syshooks/$base" ]; then hook="$syshooks/$base" elif [ -f "$phooks/$base" ]; then hook="$phooks/$base" fi An easy fix is to insert the missing else clause before the fi line so that the script skips the subdirectory or other non-regular file and carries on with the next correctly specified hook: if [ -f "$syshooks/$base" ]; then hook="$syshooks/$base" elif [ -f "$phooks/$base" ]; then hook="$phooks/$base" else continue fi Observed in Lubuntu 14.04.3,4 with pm-utils 1.4.1-13ubuntu0.1,2. However the relevant pm-utils code dates back to 2008, pm-utils upstream version 1.1.0. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1952421] Autopkgtest regression report (openssh/1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.4)
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted openssh (1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.4) for focal have finished running. The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package: gvfs/1.44.1-1ubuntu1 (ppc64el) nova/2:21.2.3-0ubuntu1 (armhf) Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures, proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding autopkgtest regressions [1]. https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed- migration/focal/update_excuses.html#openssh [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Autopkgtest_Regressions Thank you! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1952421 Title: Issue on sshd finds correct private key for a certificate when using ssh-agent Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in openssh source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in openssh source package in Hirsute: Fix Committed Status in openssh source package in Impish: Fix Committed Bug description: Reported as https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3254 upstream [Impact] * HostCertificate and HostKeyAgent are not working together in sshd due to a mismatched certificate's public key and private key. This affects every version of openssh back until Focal, at least. Run: curl -v https://graph.facebook.com/v12.0/act_111/ or wget https://graph.facebook.com/v12.0/act_111/ Result received --- Segmentation fault (core dumped) Notes - This bug was found by the Curl users: See: https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/8024 I believe that this bug is related to https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2020-1967 that maybe used as a vector point for code injection. Actually there isn't any replacement for OpenSSL 1.1.1f for Focal (Arm64), so it makes difficult to use Ubuntu 20.04 in a production environment. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1952421] Please test proposed package
Hello Utkarsh, or anyone else affected, Accepted openssh into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. This affects every version of openssh back until Focal, at least. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1940715] Re: systemd-resolved restricts edns0 advertised max size to 512
** Changed in: systemd Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940715 Title: systemd-resolved restricts edns0 advertised max size to 512 Status in systemd: Fix Released Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Status in systemd source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Focal: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Hirsute: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Impish: New Bug description: [impact] when talking to upstream nameservers, systemd-resolved limits its advertised max packet size as 512 in its edns0 opt. However, one of the primary benefits of edns0 is to allow using packet sizes larger than 512, which is the pre-edns0 max packet size. this results in systemd-resolved failing to handle responses larger than 512 with udp/edns0, and having to fall back to tcp. This is not optimal (since tcp dns imposes significantly higher overhead) and may even cause failures, if a firewall allows udp dns but blocks tcp dns traffic. [test case] enable debug logging in systemd-resolved, with 'sudo systemctl edit systemd-resolved' and then add: [Service] Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug then save that file and restart systemd-resolved (or reboot). Make sure to flush the cache and reset server features before reproducing: $ sudo resolvectl flush-caches $ sudo resolvectl reset-server-features Lookup 'toomany.ddstreet.org' and check systemd-resolved logs to see if it used TCP fallback or not: ...
