It appears this crash has only been reported twice, ever. It's also in an unsupported package (compiz). If you are using a desktop then I would recommend replacing the graphics card so as to get a different driver. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1963818] Re: Upgrading to 22.04 on wayland session closes session
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963818 Title: Upgrading to 22.04 on wayland session closes session Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Just tried to upgrade Kubuntu from 21.10 to 22.04 in a konsole on a Wayland session (using do-release-upgrade) and while setting up one of the packages I lost the Wayland session and was left with a tiny cursor in the upper left corner. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug. I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 A number of your details as provided don't align (bionic or 18.04 packages on a focal or 20.04 system), so I'm marking this bug as "Incomplete" as it reads like you need support. If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why, and the status can be returned to "New". The report can be changed to a question; which is a support request. ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964040 Title: package linux-firmware 1.187.26 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado paquete linux-firmware script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1 Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I run apt-get autoremove command a problems happen. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1963751] Re: focal security update 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 cannot be automatically installed due to new dependency
> To upgrade to webkit2gtk 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1, u-a must install libopengl0, either 1.3.1-1 from the main archive or 1.3.2-1~ubuntu0.20.04.1 from -updates. However, -updates is not a trusted source for u-a when configured like this, so the only candidate is 1.3.1-1. Unfortunately libopengl0 1.3.1-1 depends on libglvnd0=1.3.1-1, but 1.3.2-1~ubuntu0.20.04.1 is already installed, so u-a would have to downgrade it which is I guess a decision well beyond its pay-grade. Oh, I believe this is the actually issue here. Unattended-upgrades only updates from the -security pocket, so a security update can't rely on something that is only in -updates. I will look into pushing the binary packages from libglvnd to the -security pocket so that the upgrade can be handled properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unattended-upgrades in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963751 Title: focal security update 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 cannot be automatically installed due to new dependency Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Version: 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 This security update for focal does not seem to be automatically upgradeable by unattended-upgrades: 2022-03-05 14:32:35,653 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:36,685 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:38,031 INFO No packages found that can be upgraded unattended and no pending auto-removals 2022-03-05 14:32:38,232 INFO Package libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 is kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local apt_preferences(5). 2022-03-05 14:32:38,382 INFO Package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 is kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local apt_preferences(5). apt-mark showhold lists no held packages, and there are no apt_preferences set. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1963751] Re: focal security update 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 cannot be automatically installed due to new dependency
Digging a bit further - this machine was manually dist-upgraded on 30-May-2021 (it has -updates enabled, but is set to install only security updates automatically.) That update pulled in libglvnd 1.3.2-1~ubuntu0.20.04.1 (source for libegl1, libglvnd0, etc.) To upgrade to webkit2gtk 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1, u-a must install libopengl0, either 1.3.1-1 from the main archive or 1.3.2-1~ubuntu0.20.04.1 from -updates. I suppose the solution is to find a way to lose the new dependency, obvious answer would be to backport the fixes in webkit2gtk 2.34.6 to 2.34.4? I assume there is some sort of policy on adding new dependencies in security updates? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unattended-upgrades in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963751 Title: focal security update 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 cannot be automatically installed due to new dependency Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Version: 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 This security update for focal does not seem to be automatically upgradeable by unattended-upgrades: 2022-03-05 14:32:35,653 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:36,685 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:38,031 INFO No packages found that can be upgraded unattended and no pending auto-removals 2022-03-05 14:32:38,232 INFO Package libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 is kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local apt_preferences(5).
The new dependency on libopengl0 is expected. The new version of WebKitGTK fixed opengl detection and the new dependency is now required. I am going to re-assign this bug to unattended-upgrades. If it's not willing to install new dependencies, it definitely should get fixed as some security updates will always get held back. ** Package changed: webkit2gtk (Ubuntu) => unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unattended-upgrades in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963751 Title: focal security update 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 cannot be automatically installed due to new dependency Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Version: 2.34.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 This security update for focal does not seem to be automatically upgradeable by unattended-upgrades: 2022-03-05 14:32:35,653 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:36,685 WARNING package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 upgradable but fails to be marked for upgrade (E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.) 2022-03-05 14:32:38,031 INFO No packages found that can be upgraded unattended and no pending auto-removals 2022-03-05 14:32:38,232 INFO Package libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 is kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local apt_preferences(5). 2022-03-05 14:32:38,382 INFO Package libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 is kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local apt_preferences(5). apt-mark showhold lists no held packages, and there are no apt_preferences set. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1963834] Re: openssl 3.0 - SSL: UNSAFE_LEGACY_RENEGOTIATION_DISABLED]
It looks like this was added in: https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/72d2670bd21becfa6a64bb03fa55ad82d6d0c0f3 in order to address servers that have not yet been updated for CVE-2009-3555. It's possible to add a flag at the C level to connect insecurely, SSL_OP_LEGACY_SERVER_CONNECT, but I don't see this added to python: https://bugs.python.org/issue44888 https://github.com/python/cpython/pull/27776 Thus it might not be easily reachable from Python programs. Best would be to update the remote server to address CVE-2009-3555 (it might also be known as "support RFC 5746"). I'm not sure what to suggest for programs written in Python. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1959508] Re: enable BMFF support in exiv2
I can confirm CR3 support is not enabled in exiv2 0.27.5-1. It very much appears the steps outlined by Robin Mills (aka clanmills) have not been undertaken by the Debian packager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to exiv2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1959508 Title: enable BMFF support in exiv2 Status in exiv2 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in exiv2 package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: On https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/exiv2 I see that Ubuntu 22.04 currently includes exiv2 0.27.3 Exiv2 v0.27.5 includes support for Canon *.CR3 image files. The CR3 file format has been the Canon camera-raw file format since mid 2018, and is probably one of the most common raw image file formats today. Applications such as darktable, amongst others, use exiv2 to extract image metadata, thumbnails and previews, and can only open CR3 files when linked with exiv2 0.27.5 or later. Note that exiv2 0.27.5 needs to be built with -DEXIV2_ENABLE_BMFF=On to enable *.CR3 support. Would it be possible to get Exiv2 v0.27.5 with BMFF support enabled included in Ubuntu 22.04? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1962332] Re: xenial systemd fails to start if cgroup2 is mounted
Backporting 099619957a0 to xenial will mean that systemd will gain ability to use cgroups2 as shipped in the xenial's ga v4.4 kernel. it will mean that xenial containers on top of bionic's ga kernel will fail to use cgroups2. however at the time it was an experimental feature which was not widely used at all, and there are likely to be very few users of it. it would be nice to if backport of 099619957a0 was done in a backwards- compatible way and allow using cgroups2 like code paths using both pre-v4.4 and v4.4+ kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962332 Title: xenial systemd fails to start if cgroup2 is mounted Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Confirmed Bug description: [impact] now that jammy has moved to using unified cgroup2, containers started on jammy must also use unified cgroup2 (since the cgroup subsystems can only be mounted as v1 or v2 throughout the entire system, including inside containers). However, the systemd in xenial does not include support for cgroup2, and doesn't recognize its magic (added in upstream commit 099619957a0), so it fails to start completely. [workaround] On Jammy host edit default kernel command line to include systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=false update your bootloader configuration; and reboot then hybrid cgroups will be on the host, and one can launch xenial container then. [test case] create a jammy system, that has unified cgroup2 mounted. Then: $ lxc launch ubuntu:xenial test-x ... $ lxc shell test-x (inside xenial container): $ mv /sbin/init /sbin/init.old $ cat > /sbin/init <+a q Failed to mount cgroup at /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd: Operation not permitted [!!] Failed to mount API filesystems, freezing. Freezing execution. [regression potential] any regression would likely break xenial containers from starting at all, or cause cgroup-related problems with systemd starting and/or managing services. [scope] this is needed only for xenial. However, as xenial is out of standard support, this would need to be an exception. this is fixed upstream with commit 099619957a0 (and possibly others - needs closer investigation and testing) which is first included in v230, so this is fixed already in b and later. this is not needed - by default - for trusty because upstart is used there; however, I think it's possible to change trusty over to use systemd instead of upstart. But since trusty is out of standard support, and it doesn't fail by default, it doesn't seem like it should be fixed. [other info] An alternative appears to be to change the host system back to using the 'hybrid' cgroup, however that obviously is awful and would remove the benefits of cgroup v2 from the host system, and force all containers on the host system to also use the 'hybrid' cgroup. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network eduroam
Eduroam is a WPA2 Enterprise network. It supported different EAP methods (https://wiki.geant.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=121346284): - EAP TTLS-PAP - PEAP - EAP TLS - EAP-pwd I always use the default option selected in Ubuntu Wi-Fi Settings, which is labeled "Tunneled TLS". But I double-checked some guides and most recommend PEAP, which I've now also tried and had the same issue with. Guide from my institution: https://it.umn.edu/services-technologies/how-tos/wifi-connect-unix-or-linux-most-major Another guide: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/how-to/connecting-to-eduroam-wi-fi-linux I usually use the "No CA certificate is required" option as shown in the second guide. The "Inner authentication" is the default option, MSCHAPv2. Log attached. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1955997] Re: The airplane hotkey has no function on a HP platform
Hi Robie, any update on this? [Test Plan] Press airplane hokey. Before the patch, nothing happens. After the patch, the rfkill works as expected. In some old HP platforms (contains Intel-HID and HPQ6001 in same machine), the user will aware the airplane mode toggled very quickly e.g. turn-on and turn-off immediately (or works good without problem, depends on how DM handles multiple rfkill events). In this case, you could check: 1. sudo evtest # You probably could see # ... # /dev/input/event8: Intel HID events # ... # /dev/input/event11: Wireless hotkeys # or "HP Wireless hotkeys" depends on your kernel version 2. try to listen these events when pressing airplane key, you will probably see these two events will send the keycode out. 3. check the components own this event $ sudo udevadm info -a /dev/input/event11 # ... # ATTRS{phys}=="hpq6001/input0" $ sudo udevadm info -a /dev/input/event8 # ... #DRIVERS=="intel-hid" 4. check your hwdb is affect. $ grep -rn "Intel HID" /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb # If you didn't see anything then it means your intel-hid is unmask. 5. You could report a bug to your DM for dealing with two rfkill events (same as g-s-d[3]). Before your DM solves this issue, you could mask intel-hid as workaround (but it will be overwritten in next upgrade) by adding: ``` evdev:name:Intel HID events:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnHP*:pn*:pvr* ``` to /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb then $ systemd-hwdb update $ udevadm trigger [Where problems could occur] In non-gnome ubuntu, if the specific dmi contains HPQ6001, then airplane will not work but HP confirmed the new HP generation won't contain the HPQ6001 and also each DM still need to deal with multi-rfkill events because upstream changes[2]. --- In the last year, HP mentions HP machines need to use hp-wireless (HPQ6001) as the rfkill source[1]. However, HP confirms the HPQ6001 has been retired in the platforms since 2022. In the platforms after 2022, there are two sources of rkfill events (intel-hid, atkbd) and HP only guarantee the intel-hid works. Therefore, the upstream already accept the patch[2] to unmask intel-hid and mention this big change in the NEWS. This change makes the pre-2022 HP platforms meet the regression since they have two rfkill events (HPQ6001 and intel-hid) be triggered if pressing function key. Thus, there is a patch[3] to make sure the GNOME could deal with this case smoothly. However, the systemd change will still cause other DEs meet the regression (xfce, KDE, lxde, etc..). Backport systemd change to make HP 2022 platforms work is not the best choice on stable version (focal in this case). We still need a solution to make airplane key works on 2022 HP platforms (intel-hid and atkbd only). The potential solution from my mind that is to maintain a whitelist to unmask intel-hid in ubuntu-patch in focal, something like: ``` evdev:name:Intel HID events:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnHP*:pnHPZBookFury16inchG9*:* KEYBOARD_KEY_8=wlan # Use hp-wireless instead ``` after "KEYBOARD_KEY_8=unkown". [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958148] Re: mkinitramfs is too slow
** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958148 Title: mkinitramfs is too slow Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On the Nezha board creating an initrd takes more than 1 hour. Ideally there would be a parameter that we could pass to mkinitfs. But for as fast solution we should simply replace -19 by -9 in mkinitramfs. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1960863] Re: armv8 paca: poly1305 users see segfaults when pointer authentication in use on AWS Graviton 3 instances
This bug was fixed in the package openssl - 1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.11 --- openssl (1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.11) focal; urgency=medium * Fixup pointer authentication for armv8 systems that support it when using the poly1305 MAC, preventing segmentation faults. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1957104] Re: updating openssh-server fails, because port 22 is in use by systemd
sshd is started by systemd. No special configurations besides defaults by Ubuntu/xUbuntu. Only change in /etc/ssh/sshd_config: "PermitRootLogin prohibit-password" -> "PermitRootLogin yes" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1957104 Title: updating openssh-server fails, because port 22 is in use by systemd Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: openssh-server tries to restart itself, but openssh-server reports port 22 in use. This is true: systemd has taken port 22 to start sshd if one connects to port 22. two solutions: 1. dont start sshd after installing. configure it without starting it afterwards. 2. stop systemd listening on port 22 before starting sshd, then start sshd, terminate it after configuring, then start systemd listening on port 22 again. Second problem: starting ssh.service does not check if "/run/sshd" exists. This directory has to be created before sshd is started. Unclear if this is an error with sshd not creating this directory before dropping privileges or if this has to be done once while installing. IMHO the first is the case.
