[Touch-packages] [Bug 1864215] Re: Please add webp loader to gdk-pixbuf

2022-03-09 Thread Jonathan Yip
In case you don't want to wait for aruiz's loader to be packaged in Debian (and
then trickled down to Ubuntu), here's a PPA:
https://code.launchpad.net/~helkaluin/+archive/ubuntu/webp-pixbuf-loader

format" error.

  Bug 1318327 covers this issue in eye of gnome, and bug 1407644 in
  libwebp, but isn't this really a gdk-pixbuf issue? If it really does
  belong to libwebp, my apologies, please dup this bug to 1407644 (I'm
  confident it doesn't belong to eog since I don't use that program; I
  have other programs that use libgdk-pixbuf).

  You can probably use eog to test this, or run
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders | grep -i
webp
  (I assume the loader would mention webp if there was a loader for it).

  I have these packages installed in addition to libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:
  libwebp-dev libwebp6 libwebpdemux2 libwebpmux3 webp. file recognizes
  the format:

  $ file /tmp/FKK78W.jpg.webp
  /tmp/FKK78W.jpg.webp: RIFF (little-endian) data, Web/P image, VP8 encoding,
1200x533, Scaling: [none]x[none], YUV color, decoders should clamp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1964386] Re: Xorg freeze

2022-03-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This might be something crashed, or it might just be the screen failing
to turn back on.

First please check for crashes using these steps:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Next time you experience the black screen please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here.

Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1964352

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Thanks. Your gnome-shell crashes are now being tracked in bug 1964430
and bug 1964429.

Again it looks like a problem in Mesa. Hopefully a newer version of
Ubuntu will fix them:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1782984] Re: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed with multiple applications

2022-03-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interactively, after you have found the 'Ubuntu on Wayland' option on
the login screen once, it will then become the default in future*

* Unless 'Ubuntu on Wayland' crashes in which case the option gets disabled and
it reverts to 'Ubuntu' which is a Xorg session.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  There is a race in libx11 causing applications to randomly abort. It's
  not trivial to reproduce, but there are enough duplicates that this
  deserves an SRU to bionic & focal.

  [Fix]

  Backport a commit from upstream:

  From dbb55e1a5e82870466b095097d9e46046680ec25 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
  From: Frediano Ziglio
  Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2020 09:06:54 +
  Subject: [PATCH] Fix poll_for_response race condition

  In poll_for_response is it possible that event replies are skipped
  and a more up to date message reply is returned.
  This will cause next poll_for_event call to fail aborting the program.

  This was proved using some slow ssh tunnel or using some program
  to slow down server replies (I used a combination of xtrace and strace).

  How the race happens:
  - program enters into poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_event is called but the server didn't still send the reply;
  - pending_requests is not NULL because we send a request (see call
to  append_pending_request in _XSend);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 is called from poll_for_response;
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 will read from server, at this point
server reply with an event (say sequence N) and the reply to our
last request (say sequence N+1);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 returns the reply for the request we asked;
  - last_request_read is set to N+1 sequence in poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_response returns the response to the request;
  - poll_for_event is called (for instance from another poll_for_response);
  - event with sequence N is retrieved;
  - the N sequence is widen, however, as the "new" number computed from
last_request_read is less than N the number is widened to N + 2^32
(assuming last_request_read is still contained in 32 bit);
  - poll_for_event enters the nested if statement as req is NULL;
  - we compare the widen N (which now does not fit into 32 bit) with
request (which fits into 32 bit) hitting the throw_thread_fail_assert.

  To avoid the race condition and to avoid the sequence to go back
  I check again for new events after getting the response and
  return this last event if present saving the reply to return it
  later.

  To test the race and the fix it's helpful to add a delay (I used a
  "usleep(5000)") before calling xcb_poll_for_reply64.

  Original patch written by Frediano Ziglio, see
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/34

  Reworked primarily for readability by Peter Hutterer, see
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/merge_requests/53

  Signed-off-by: Peter Hutterer

  bionic needs another commit so that the real fix applies.

  [Test case]

  It's a race condition, the SRU sponsor (tjaalton) does not have a test
  case for this, but the bug subscribers seem to.

  [Where things could go wrong]

  In theory there might be a case where a race still happens, but since
  this has been upstream for a year now with no follow-up commits, it's
  safe to assume that there are no regressions.

  We should keep up with GStreamer's bugfix releases in the 1.16 series

  [ QA and testing ]

  Play a range of videos in Totem. Play a range of audio tracks in
  Rhythmbox. Try to stream audio and/or video. Try to install a missing
  codec.

  In all cases, make sure that everything which worked before still
  works.

  [ Regression potential ]

  If one of the fixes is bad then it might break video or audio
  playback, or could crash any application that tries to use gstreamer.

  On ubuntu-20.04 "apt-get" default installs gstreamer version 1.16.2,
  though gstreamer has subsequent minor version gst-1.16.3 with fixes
  incorporated.

  Hence, Ideally default gstreamer-1.16 minor version support with
  ubuntu-20.04 should be upgraded to use gstreamer version 1.16.3

Bug description:
  Description: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15
  Symptom: Passing the result of compressBound() to compress()
 results in an error code.
  Problem: compressBound() is not adjusted for DFLTCC.
  Solution: Adjust compressBound() for DFLTCC like it's already done
 for deflateBound(). Since zlib project does not accept
 patches at the moment, the fix has been integrated into
 the DFLTCC pull request:
 https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/410
 The commitid is b25781e735363e04f6c56e21431c47e4afc50b17.

  Reproduction:  z15 only:
 #include
 #include
 #include
 int main() {
 Bytef in_buf[128], out_buf[1024];
 for (size_t i = 0; i < sizeof(in_buf); i++)
 in_buf[i] = rand();
 uLongf dest_len = compressBound(sizeof(in_buf));
 assert(dest_len <= sizeof(out_buf));
 int ret = compress(out_buf, _len,
in_buf, sizeof(in_buf));
 assert(ret == Z_OK);
 }

2022-03-09 Thread Frank Heimes
debdiff for zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu7 to zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu8
(except the of the top line of the changelog:
zlib (1:1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu8) impish; urgency=medium
the debdiff is the same for impish and jammy)

  * d/p/410-lp1961427.patch ported from zlib #410, fixing
compressBound() with hw acceleration. LP: #1961427
Refreshed some quilt patches just to remove offsets.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-09 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
Something different happening this morning! I ran the gdb for fcl to
obtain the back trace for you, but unexpectedly the program actually
started! There are some messages in the output, but the GUI is up and
running.

Given this I just tried and both gimp and virtualbox are starting now as
well.

What should I do for you now?

I am going to catch up on some of the work I needed to do with these
programs first, but I am willing to check further into this for you
after that.

  As this library has not changed I am assuming the problem is with one of the
libraries it depends upon. Several packages were updated in the past few days,
I believe including some that may be the cause of the problem. I have attached
a zip with my /var/log/apt/term.log and history.log for inspection.

  Version of library is 2.24.32-4ubuntu4 and library file is dated
  2021-03-31 here.

Is this in a developer package I need to load first?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you could try to get a backtrace of the illegal instruction, but it's
just weird, maybe there are some binaries corrupted on disk or
something?

Could you try to maybe
$ sudo debsums -s

it should report if some binaries are not matching they expected
checksums

Bug description:
  The ssh client fails with the message "Aborted (core dumped)" when
  setting the ConnectTimeout to 2147484 or higher.

  lsb_release: Linux Mint 20 (but also tested this on latest ubuntu:20.04
docker container)
  openssh-client version: 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.1

  I expected that either the connect timeout would be used correctly, or
  that it would fail with a proper error message saying the connect
  timeout can't be higher than 2147483.

  What happened:

  $ ssh -o "ConnectTimeout=2147484" localhost
  Aborted (core dumped)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-09 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
At this point I can only think that a change in one of the dependencies
of these libraries is the problem. Are any of the other libraries
updated in my term.log in the dependency tree of the failing library?
If so, perhaps I should first restore the libgail-common and then back
level that package.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  There is a race in libx11 causing applications to randomly abort. It's
  not trivial to reproduce, but there are enough duplicates that this
  deserves an SRU to bionic & focal.

  [Fix]

  Backport a commit from upstream:

  From dbb55e1a5e82870466b095097d9e46046680ec25 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
  From: Frediano Ziglio
  Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2020 09:06:54 +
  Subject: [PATCH] Fix poll_for_response race condition

  In poll_for_response is it possible that event replies are skipped
  and a more up to date message reply is returned.
  This will cause next poll_for_event call to fail aborting the program.

  This was proved using some slow ssh tunnel or using some program
  to slow down server replies (I used a combination of xtrace and strace).

  How the race happens:
  - program enters into poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_event is called but the server didn't still send the reply;
  - pending_requests is not NULL because we send a request (see call
to  append_pending_request in _XSend);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 is called from poll_for_response;
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 will read from server, at this point
server reply with an event (say sequence N) and the reply to our
last request (say sequence N+1);
  - xcb_poll_for_reply64 returns the reply for the request we asked;
  - last_request_read is set to N+1 sequence in poll_for_response;
  - poll_for_response returns the response to the request;
  - poll_for_event is called (for instance from another poll_for_response);
  - event with sequence N is retrieved;
  - the N sequence is widen, however, as the "new" number computed from
last_request_read is less than N the number is widened to N + 2^32
(assuming last_request_read is still contained in 32 bit);
  - poll_for_event enters the nested if statement as req is NULL;

  In theory there might be a case where a race still happens, but since
  this has been upstream for a year now with no follow-up commits, it's
  safe to assume that there are no regressions.

  img files. That is done via the command:
$ ld -m elf_i386 -T /<>/pc-bios/optionrom//flat.lds -no-pie -s
-o multiboot.img multiboot.o

  Recently that still works in Debian [1] but no more in Ubuntu [2].

  I think that the new binutils broke me.
  In hirsute proposed those are at 2.35.50.20201210-0ubuntu1

  The issue is easily isolated, and by copying the two files around I
  found the following:

  Hirsute: 2.35.50.20201210-0ubuntu1 - bad
  Hirsute: 2.35.50.20201207-0ubuntu1 - bad
  Sid: 2.35.1-4  - good
  Groovy:  2.35.1-1ubuntu1   - good
  Focal:   2.34-6ubuntu1 - good

  I'll attach these two files to the bug, just thro them into a directory and
  run the command:
   $ ld -m elf_i386 -T ./flat.lds -no-pie -s -o linuxboot.img linuxboot.o

  If that is an intentional change please guide how this is now supposed
  to work.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1686254] Re: OpenVPN auto-connect options greyed out or missing for no reason

2022-03-09 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
Going to the single VPN, I also once saw the "Automatically connect to
VPN" menu grayed out and not selectable.

Then I realized that you have to go to another normal connection (e.g.
wired, Wi-Fi, etc) and select "General configuration" > "Automatically
connect to VPN".

good to explain that point 2. is to use if you have only console access.

Thanks. That's "good" because it means we can focus on this being just a
bug in the Mesa r300 (radeon) driver.

Would you be able to find the details of those gnome-shell crashes? Try
these steps:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1962541] Re: PEAP wifi can't connect (ubuntu live/installer is also not working

2022-03-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, that could be similar to bug #1958267

> Beacause after I install wpasupplicant from Debian Sid then is fixed

that's a bit of a weird because the current Ubuntu package is a direct
sync from Debian, so you replaced by the same version and it's working?
that would suggest a problem with the build, maybe another side effect
of the openssl3 transition in Ubuntu

Could you reinstall the Ubuntu wpa, edit
/lib/systemd/system/wpa_supplicant.service to add a '-d' to the
ExecStart cmd, restart, try to connect and share the 'journalctl -b 0'
log from the system?
