[Touch-packages] [Bug 1974196] Re: Installing libudev1 on a new Jammy installation uninstalls many packages.
Not that the above short list of uninstalled packages is in the minimal example that I compiled to isolate the smallest footprint possible. Those packages are requirements for `ubuntu-standard` and on a standard system will remove most of `ubuntu-desktop` leaving the computer effectively nonoperational with systemd and all it's dependencies removed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974196 Title: Installing libudev1 on a new Jammy installation uninstalls many packages. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1974230] [NEW] Negative cache results from dnsmasq do not include SOA as required in RFC2308
Public bug reported: RFC2308 states: 6 - Negative answers from the cache When a server, in answering a query, encounters a cached negative response it MUST add the cached SOA record to the authority section of the response with the TTL decremented by the amount of time it was stored in the cache. This allows the NXDOMAIN / NODATA response to time out correctly. The effect is that the negative cache results returned by dnsmasq cannot be cached by other resolvers such as systemd-resolved. A good example of why this is a problem: Two clients with systemd-resolved send DNS queries to dnsmasq for the same record The first one makes a query and gets NXDOMAIN with SOA. This results in systemd-resolved caching the negative result. The second client makes a query and gets NODATA without the SOA. This results in systemd-resolved not caching the negative result. Consider a domain name that only has an A record published. When connecting to that domain a lookup happens for the and A record. One can end up in a situation where systemd-resolved has the A record cached locally, but it still goes out to the network to perform the lookup only to get the same negative cache result that is missing the SOA I see this behavior in 18.04 and 22.04 First query to dnsmasq can be cached: dig @10.0.1.21 a.google.com ; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>> @10.0.1.21 a.google.com ; (1 server found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 3107 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 1 ;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION: ; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 512 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;a.google.com. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]
Created attachment 300990 attachment-14829-0.html From your alsa-info (thanks!), I see that your subsystem id is 0x3822 compared to the 0x1813 of the 15IMHG05. In the root of the linux source folder/directory, open the file: sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c Find this line: SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x17aa, 0x3813, "Legion 7i 15IMHG05", ALC287_FIXUP_LEGION_15IMHG05_SPEAKERS), Next to that line (before or after doesn't matter), add your own line: SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x17aa, 0x3822, "Legion 7i 15IMH5", ALC287_FIXUP_LEGION_15IMHG05_SPEAKERS), If the ALC287_FIXUP_LEGION_15IMHG05_SPEAKERS fix doesn't work for your laptop, try theALC287_FIXUP_YOGA7_14ITL_SPEAKERS fix as well. Ie, SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x17aa, 0x3822, "Legion 7i 15IMH5", ALC287_FIXUP_YOGA7_14ITL_SPEAKERS), But given the similarities between our laptop models, I strongly suspect the 15IMHG05 fix will work for your laptop as well. Looks like you're running linux Mint, which, IIRC, is based on Debian or Ubuntu. For deb based distributions, you can build packages for your kernel like this: make bindeb-pkg You only really need the linux-image and linux-headers (for Nvidia) packages. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1937110] Re: dhcp option 121 & 249
Funny thing is that the rfc 3442 is from 2002. Thats what makes me wonder of the missing support till today... My workarround till today is to unzip the iso -> kernel+initrd, patch the initrd, and use the patched initrd. I would not recommend anyone to do it like that, only if theres no other options.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to busybox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937110 Title: dhcp option 121 & 249 Status in subiquity: New Status in busybox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello, I'm running into issues with subiquity on a cloud provider. It happens when its running the /init from the kernel right after kernel is booted, i guess even before the subiquity is started(?). After further debugging, it looks like the provided kernel 5.4.80 #90 Ubuntu, is using busybox 1.30.1-4ubuntu~6.3 which includes isc- dhclient-4.4.1 which is lacking the given options. Would be awesome if this could be fixed.. maybe just a simple busybox compile option? ** Tags added: fr-2401 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974196 Title: Installing libudev1 on a new Jammy installation uninstalls many packages. Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On an Ubuntu 22.04 desktop system created using the current installation image without enabling package updates over the network, installing the package libudev1 results in a large number of critical packages being removed and rendering the system essentially unusable. https://github.com/tfoote/udevdebug/blob/main/Dockerfile is a Dockerfile which also demonstrates the issue. Building the image, which will install udev 249.11-0ubuntu3 and init 1.62, and then running `apt install libudev1` in the generated image results in The following packages will be REMOVED: libnss-systemd libpam-systemd systemd-timesyncd udev The following packages will be upgraded: libudev1 This is completely prevented by ensuring that updates are installed from the jammy-updates repository before installing any additional packages and that is almost certainly the correct thing to do. But this is a punishing result for such a mistake. I would expect the installation to either force the upgrade of the other systemd packages or refuse to install libudev1 at the incorrect version relative to the other systemd packages until the system is upgraded. From a normal ubuntu-desktop (e.g. ~liveCD) both tcpd and libwrap0 are already installed, and the task-install pulls in only openssh-server. However when the task is removed, all these three packages (openssh-server, tcpd and libwrap0) are forcefully removed. Upstream issue is tracked at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/9767 Upstream patch review at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/9780 The issue leads to various client failures with TLS 1.3 as described in, e.g. https://github.com/golang/go/issues/35722 https://github.com/golang/go/issues/34040 [Test Plan] The issue can be reproduced by building with `enable-ssl-trace` and then running `s_server` like this: ``` openssl s_server -key key.pem -cert cert.pem -status_file test/recipes/ocsp-response.der -Verify 5 ``` And running `s_client` like this: ``` openssl s_client -status -trace -cert cert.pem -key key.pem ``` The output shows a `status_request` extension in the `CertificateRequest` as follows: Received Record Header: Version = TLS 1.2 (0x303) Content Type = ApplicationData (23) Length = 1591 Inner Content Type = Handshake (22) CertificateRequest, Length=1570 request_context (len=0): extensions, length = 1567 extension_type=status_request(5), length=1521 - 01 00 05 ed 30 82 05 e9-0a 01 00 a0 82 05 e2 0.. 000f - 30 82 05 de 06 09 2b 06-01 05 05 07 30 01 01 0.+.0.. 001e - 04 82 05 cf 30 82 05 cb-30 82 01 1a a1 81 86 0...0.. 002d - 30 81 83 31 0b 30 09 06-03 55 04 06 13 02 47 0..1.0...UG ...more lines omitted... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1937110] Re: dhcp option 121 & 249
I just wanted to say that we are also hitting the same problem (lack of dhcp option 121/249). So Subiquity connects to the network, but can't get a default route and thus fails. Couple this with the removal of debian-installer support from Ubuntu, and we can no longer install Ubuntu Jammy LTS. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1974196] [NEW] Installing libudev1 on a new Jammy installation uninstalls many packages.
Public bug reported: On an Ubuntu 22.04 desktop system created using the current installation image without enabling package updates over the network, installing the package libudev1 results in a large number of critical packages being removed and rendering the system essentially unusable. https://github.com/tfoote/udevdebug/blob/main/Dockerfile is a Dockerfile which also demonstrates the issue. [Touch-packages] [Bug 50093] Re: Some sysctls are ignored on boot
"sysctl.d docs clearly explain this is a known issue with clearly documented ways to work around it" Try googling "how to disable ipv6 in ubuntu". As it runs before networking modules are loaded and filesystems are mounted, there are quite a lot of commonly-used sysctl's which are simply ignored on boot and produce errors to the console. Simply renaming the symlink from S17 to > S40 probably isn't a great solution, as there are probably folk who want and expect some sysctl's to be applied before filesystems are mounted and so on. However, simply ugnoring something as important as sysctl settings isn't really on. Administrators expect the settings in /etc/sysctl.conf to take effect. One sto-gap solution would be to run sysctl -p twice; once at S17 and once at S41. There may still be some warnings and errors, but everything would be applied. A different, more complex approach might be to re-architect the sysctl configuration into something like; /etc/sysctl.d/$modulename and have the userland module-loading binaries take care of applying them after modules are loaded. Though this may take care of explicitly loaded modules only, I'm not sure. Incidentally, /etc/sysctl.conf still refers to /etc/networking/options, but hasn't that been deprecated? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1961427] Re: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15
Thx Ilya, restarted to work on this by adding updated bedtools to the PPA ... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to zlib in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961427 Title: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15 Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems: Incomplete Status in bedtools package in Ubuntu: New Status in zlib package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in bedtools source package in Focal: New Status in zlib source package in Focal: New Status in bedtools source package in Impish: New Status in zlib source package in Impish: New Status in bedtools source package in Jammy: New Status in zlib source package in Jammy: Incomplete Bug description: SRU Justification: == [Impact] * zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on IBM z15 hardware. * Passing the result of compressBound() to compress() results in an error code. * This is because compressBound() is not adjusted for DFLTCC. [Fix] * Adjust compressBound() for DFLTCC like it's already done for deflateBound(). * Since zlib project does not accept patches at the moment, the fix has been integrated into the DFLTCC pull request: https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/410 The commitid is b25781e735363e04f6c56e21431c47e4afc50b17. * The fix extracted out of the above is: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/589857296/debdiff_zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu7_to_zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu8_jammy.diff [Test Plan] * An IBM z15 system (LPAR, z/VM guest or KVM virtual machine) with Ubuntu Server 21.10 (or 22.04). * A test can be done based on the following C test program: #include #include #include int main() { Bytef in_buf[128], out_buf[1024]; for (size_t i = 0; i < sizeof(in_buf); i++) in_buf[i] = rand(); uLongf dest_len = compressBound(sizeof(in_buf)); assert(dest_len <= sizeof(out_buf)); int ret = compress(out_buf, &dest_len, in_buf, sizeof(in_buf)); assert(ret == Z_OK); } * The test needs to be done by IBM, due to the requirements for the special z15 hardware. * A successful test was just completed, based on the version in jammy- proposed, which is at the same code level that the impish version this SRU is targeted for. [Where problems could occur] * If the adjustment of compressBound() for DFLTCC is done erroneously the issue can still be present or in worst case even affect Z systems other than z15 only. * The compression can become errorneous with the new changes, e.g. in compressBound. * Mistakes in dfltcc_free_window OF and especially DEFLATE_BOUND_COMPLEN, (incl. the bit definitions), may cause various and unforseen defects. * Any build time issues that might have been introduced by this patch can be identified by a test build; this was done and is available here: https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp1961427 [Other Info] * Ubuntu jammy, impish and focal are affected. __ Description: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15 Symptom: Passing the result of compressBound() to compress() results in an error code.
